Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #8

What is your name?
Vætr Droppin Bombz!

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?

Or how long have you been playing?
I’ve been playing since beta!

What made you want to try the game?

A friend of mine was talking about it; sounded interesting and unique, plus I had never played an MMO, so I figured why not give it a shot!

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?

Dagger/Dagger Elementalist! I spent a lot of time training and playing Ele in general, and to me D/D Ele is extremely fun!

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?

Go to my home instance or guild hall and collect my daily nodes.

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
I totally “Shut up and take my money!” Lol. I like the new maps; the sense of urgency, to complete objectives, and overall involvement with the content is good. The maps are expansive and detailed, and are just really fun to explore.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?

I want to craft a second Eternity, and also craft Flameseeker Prophecies.

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
I am in the best guild evah, Ethereal Guardians [EG]. They’re PvE centric, but do a lot of PvP and WvW as well. Well rounded guild, fully upgraded buffs, and the best Guild Hall! Check them out, put in an application! http://etherealguardians.com/recruitment

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?

More consistent updates for WvW that involve ANet actually paying attention to what the WvW community is asking for. Separate balance patches for WvW, PvE, and PvP. Better/more consistent rewards for the more difficult content. More non-raid dungeons!!!! =D

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
Metrica Province! It is wrapped in mystery and rich with lore. It feels like there’s a lot there worth exploring and investigating beyond what the naked eye can see.

OMGlitzy! New blog! New name!

omglitzy.com

I’m excited to share that I have come up with a fun new name to go by – OMGlitzy! I’m still Glitzy and I’m still geeky, but I have felt like going by a different online handle for awhile now. I’m still going to update this blog with cosplay tutorials and giveaways, though. So don’t lose this bookmark! Since this site became cosplay centric and still gets lots of hits, I plan to keep it updated when I can. But my new blog www.omglitzy.com is going to be a little more random and a place for me to hopefully post more often without the pressure of making an epic post each time. What I mean is I started to feel like if I didn’t make a cosplay post with lots of photos, links, and information then no one wanted to read it. I didn’t want to clutter this site with random ramblings. I dunno, I am sure it’s just some weird blogger insecurity thing. But what I’m getting at is my new blog will be more laid back and easier for me to just chat about what’s going in my life!

I’ve already updated my Instagram and Twitter to my new handle – @OMGlitzy – but my Facebook and YouTube links will have to stay /GlitzyGeekGirl since they don’t offer name changes. I debated about how to handle my Twitch channel (since they don’t do name changes either) and ultimately decided that since I plan to stay pretty active on there that I would go ahead and make a new channel with my new name. So if you’d like to keep following me on Twitch head over to twitch.tv/omglitzy and give it a follow!

Thanks so much for staying interested in this blog while I’ve gone through some transitions this year. Coming soon here will be a Wonder Woman cosplay tutorial!

HUGS!!

Join Me on Twitch

My favorite game right now is Guild Wars 2, and just a few weeks ago I finally invested in a nice webcam so I could begin streaming my adventures in Tyria on Twitch! It’s been an incredible way to become more involved with the GW2 community, and I love that I’ve been able to meet new friends this way! I recently mentioned I would be taking a bit of a break from my cosplaying and blogging. So figuring out Twitch has given me a new past time that I’m really enjoying! You can still expect some cosplays and plenty of future blog posts, but if you want to check out my Twitch stream and chat with me live definitely follow my channel! You don’t have to play games to watch.. you could just come by and say Hey or ask me anything! 😀 And if you ARE a Guild Wars 2 player then you can expect some in-game items and gold giveaways! I already gave out a precursor last week!!! I’m even planning something pretty big for when I hit 1k followers.
Anyway, I just wanted to update you guys on what I’ve been doing lately! My Instagram/Twitter/Facebook have all stayed pretty up-to-date on my other shenanigans so give them a follow as well.. my name is @OMGlitzy on everything :p
http://girlhero.net
And if you are curious about learning how to Twitch and stream your own games then head over to my friend GirlHeroLori’s blog. She has some Twitch 101 posts with lots of great tips on setting things up, what programs and plugins to use, etc. She streams as well! And if you have a Twitch already leave your name in the comments so I can give you a follow back!

PAX South 2015

Since my first visit to PAX Prime several years ago, I have been anxiously awaiting my next chance to attend another PAX convention. When they announced a new location to their schedule here in my home state of Texas I couldn’t contain my excitement! I bought tickets as soon as they became available and counted down the days until the con.
It’s now been a few weeks since my visit to PAX South in San Antonio, but looking through my photos have brought back all the wonderful memories. I went to Prime by myself so I was really happy to go to South with my family. We are all first and foremost gamers. My mom and brother especially! So it was super special to be able and share this convention with them and nerd out over all the games and merchandise.
After the 5 hour trip from Dallas to San Antonio, we checked in to our hotel and walked next door to the convention center. To me that is one of the best things about PAX conventions is how they place the events in large centers around great hotels and fantastic night life. We headed straight in and to the Nintendo booth to try and grab a paper Majora’s mask souvenir. It was already gone for the day, but we did manage to get one the next morning!
Another great thing about PAX is the chance to try out new and upcoming games. My mom and I played the demo for Dungeon Defenders II and loved it! It was really colorful and interactive. I was so proud of my mom for trying out a PC game. She’s usually into console gaming. We were on easy mode but still enjoyed the gameplay and features. Plus we got a code for an early release and also a limited edition pin.
That evening we explored the rest of the convention center and checked out the Magic: The Gathering tournaments as well as some panels. I was excited to see my friend Mia Moore at the Women in Geek Media Panel!
The next morning I woke up really really early to get in line for the Guild Wars 2 panel. They weren’t letting people in the doors until 8am so my dad and I got there around 7:15am. There was already a line outside the building but once we got inside most everyone went a different direction than the main theater where the panel was to be held. So me and my dad and the two guys in front of us went straight to that queue and began our 2 hour wait until the panel started. Lucky for us we were awarded a Corsair Gaming Mouse for being one of the first 5 people there. I also got to meet two of Arena Net’s marketing team members and also cosplayer Sarah Cain who was dressed as a Guild Wars 2 character. The best part was seeing my face on the live Twitch stream. I was seated close to the front and in the center and my white hoodie and pink hair showed up nicely in the sea of black shirts. (See top right photo; I’m above his shoulder.) You can watch the stream here.
We spent the rest of the day collecting street passes on our Nintendo 3DS and then exploring some of San Antonio. My family and I ate at a great Mexican restaurant on the River Walk. Even though it was chilly it was just nice enough to be able to eat outside. Then we walked along the rest of the River Walk and found the The Alamo. I visited this once when I was very little but sadly don’t remember it. (How dare I not remember The Alamo!!) So I was very very excited to make up for it and take in all the history of this monument.
One of the best things about a PAX convention is all the free swag! I came home with SO many goodies! I bought a few of the collectable pins and adorable books they had and also a sticker sheet and patch. But literally everything else was free! I got Magic: The Gathering cards, the Majora’s Mask, lanyards, several coupon codes for online stores, and best of all a Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns shirt and pin!
:+:+:+:+:
This was a very memorable trip and one I am happy to have spent with my family. I am looking forward to PAX South growing and becoming bigger and better next year.

Tutorial: DIY Felt Cat Ear Headset

*Update!* I made some more cat ears live on my Twitch channel! Click here to view it!*
Today I have a super cute and fun tutorial for cat lovers and gamers! I wanted to make my gaming headset – the Razer Kraken – more kawaii so I created some detachable felt cat ears. This tutorial is very easy and requires no sewing! Check it out!

Holiday Wish List: Part 2

I had so much fun gathering items for my Holiday Wish List 2014 that I decided to add more to it! These are things that I probably won’t get my hands on for some time so I’m just posting and chatting about them. Santa has already sent an elf to visit and there’s some super cute presents under our tree. So this post is just an add on of fun things I’ve seen online lately!
Source
The fairies by Amy Brown have been one of my favorite watercolor styles for as long as I can remember. She has a lot of great things for sell in her Etsy shop including figurines, jewelry and blankets. Some of her prints are pretty affordable and they even come signed.
Source
I began following Bad Witch Boutique on Instagram and after seeing their jewelry I became an instant fan. I tried to find a nice crystal necklace during my last few visits to the Renaissance festivals here. So far I haven’t found anything that was well-made or worth the price. The quality and style options of the jewelry from Bad Witch are amazing! I like the last two in the above photo the most, but they make rings, earrings and chokers, too.
If there is one thing I absolutely do not need it’s another headset. But this is called a “wish” list for a reason! I already have a working headset and it’s even the Razer Kraken! So why would I want another? Because they released it in FUSCHIA! They call it neon purple but it kinda looks pink to me (the last one in the pic). Either way it’s gorgeous! I’ve had my Kraken for several years now and love it. It’s super comfy and the sound quality is fantastic. I wear it all the time while I game or listen to music. The classic neon green is pretty cool, but you gotta admit the new colors are awesome!

Claire’s Wedding Ring
I began watching Outlander when it first premiered on Starz and quickly read the first book. The storyline was captivating, and I found myself rather fond of Jamie. I mean who isn’t?! Right?! So when Starz released an authentic replica of Claire’s wedding ring I was ready to purchase it right away. Well that came to a sudden halt after I saw it was $250! Omg! I mean that’s cool it’s designed by the original artist and all but SHEESH that’s expensive for something that’s actually kind of bland looking. Her ring described in the book sounds much more beautiful and a similar one can be purchased here. But since I’m anxiously waiting for the return of the TV series (April 2015 omg longest wait ever) I decided to buy this cheaper replica from eBay. This way I have something to wear while I watch, but I won’t feel bad should I lose it in a drawer one day. So that’s one wish on this list that Santa will be delivering. 🙂
Books!!
Since I brought up books, I figured I’d add some that are on my reading list. I heard they will begin filming a movie about the Fallen series by Lauren Kate this February so I’d like to read those before I see the film. I also think I’d enjoy Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. There are two more by Perkins so it’d be fun to get all three of her books. Santa usually gifts me an iTunes gift card so I’ll likely buy these for my iPad. I still need to finish The Maze Runner series first, though.
:+:+:+:+:
It’s so fun to shop online and there’s probably several items I’m forgetting to include. Maybe I’ll make a Part 3? Haha sorry Santa! It’s just for fun 🙂 You can read part one here.

Holiday Wish List 2014

These are a few of the spectacular things I have had my eye on this Holiday season!
The new PC I am using came with a great keyboard – but it doesn’t light up at all. I usually like to play in the dark so I’ve had a hard time seeing my keys. I figure go big or go home so I’m asking Santa for the Razer BlackWidow Chroma because it lights up like a RAINBOW! I tried out a Razer keyboard once before and didn’t much care for how loud the keys were – but this one comes in a Stealth edition meaning the keys are a little more quiet.

Minnie Mouse Hat from Disneyland Tokyo
I saw this pic on Kelly Eden’s Facebook page and totally loved the hat that her friend (on the right) was wearing. That is Zilla308 so I asked on her Instagram where she got it. She said it’s from the Disneyland in Tokyo and is available on eBay. After searching, I found the seller (click here) and saw it also comes in purple, pink, and blue! I was ready to order one but it’s kind of expensive. I can’t justify spending that much on a hat so maybe Santa will send an elf to Japan for me and bring one back for Christmas.
Source
Disneyland Paris Anna Pin
Another item that feels a bit out of reach is this Princess Anna pin. It is part of a booster set from the Disneyland in Paris. The set is super cute, but I wouldn’t mind just having Anna. I’m totally taking advantage of the Frozen trend and buying everything I can with my name on it. However, most pins from other countries go up in price quite a bit here in the US.
Source
Pandora Charms
My mom and I had seen these charms before and thought they were not only cute but also quite classy. There is a Pandora store in our local mall and Disney began releasing charms as well. So I looked in to starting a bracelet only to realize these little guys aren’t cheap. That’s good and bad because it means they are very nice but not for my pocketbook. But maybe receiving one charm for each holiday would be a fun start to a new bracelet collection!
One of the great things I love about playing Guild Wars 2 is that it is free-to-play. There is no monthly subscription at all. You pay for it once and you have it for life. The catch is they release limited items, boosters, weapon and armor skins, and cute mini pets in their Gem Store. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t see something in the store I want to buy. So spending real money on Gems is something I’ve had to slow down on, but a gem store card would make a great stocking stuffer! 😀

Halloween 2014

You might think that a cosplayer would go all out on Halloween with an elaborate costume. Well that is usually not the case. Haha! I would say most of my cosplay friends actually enjoy buying either a store bought costume or wearing something more simple. For me, I have been dying to wear this Korilakkuma Kigurumi I bought at AKon. I dressed it up with my pink wavy wig from Gothic Lolita Wigs!

Most of the day I played Guild Wars 2. If only all the people I grouped with that day knew what I was wearing behind the computer! lol
Even my character in game was dressed up for the Halloween festivities.

My family and I ordered pizza. Yum! My favorite!

Finally, that evening we were ready to hand out the candy bags my mom and I made. Each bag had several candy bars and crackers and other sweets in them.

I had a lot of fun giving out candy to the kiddos! One parent asked if I was a polar bear. But most of the kids said they liked my outfit. There was a block party going on down our street so once that ended all the kids came to the door at once. It kinda bummed me out because they were rushing and I was rushing and I didn’t get to see their costumes very well. I do remember three kids were dressed as crayons. I think they were my favorite!

Did you dress up as anything on Halloween?

ScrewAttack Gaming Convention 2014

This year the ScrewAttack Gaming Convention was held at my favorite downtown hotel – The Sheraton Dallas. This is a smaller gaming convention that still packs a lot of punch. It’s guest list included Smooth McGroove, The Angry Video Game Nerd, the creator of Nyan Cat – Chris Torres, and the co-creator of Mega Man – Keiji Inafune.

I wore my Annie cosplay from League of Legends. After picking up my badge I immediately ran into another Annie, too! (You can read my tutorial for this cosplay here.)

There was also a lot of fun things for sale like shirts and apparel, Nintendo plushies, and vintage games.

In the open area you could play arcade games for free.

My favorite part is the console room where you can play against your friends and watch tournaments.

I loved this Sylveon cosplay!

Don’t mess with the Khaleesi.
These two girls were from Gears of War and looked amazing!

This was my second year to attend SGC. You can read about last year here. It was fun wearing my Annie cosplay again and seeing the convention grow. Gaming conventions are fun because I pick up so many Street Passes on my Nintendo 3DS! 😀

Share Your Blog or Fav Blogs

“Nrrrd Grrrl” by Jessica Grundy – available on Etsy
Hi friends! This is kind of a different post than usual. I am hoping some of y’all can help me with updating my blog reading list!
Since I got a new computer, my bookmarks got messed up 🙁 So here’s your chance to post your own blog or one you like to read a lot!
These are a few of my interests:
Cosplay, comic cons, fashion, makeup, hair dye, cats, gaming, fantasy (elves, fairies, magic), book reviews, kawaii, DIY
What I’d really like to start reading more of:
*Disney – any bloggers that might live in Florida or California and have annual passes and post about their daily trips! Also, Disney inspired outfits and cosplays.
*Easy recipes – I’m trying to cook more often, but need lots of guidance. Any *really* simple cooking blogs for beginners would be great.
Even if your blog doesn’t fall into any of those categories, please post in the comments! I’d love to branch out more.
I’ve been trying to google search new blogs, but all I come up with are big named blogs with lots of ads. Thanks for your help, and I can’t wait to see what y’all post 🙂

Loot Crate Unboxing: February 2014

I didn't make an unboxing video for this Loot Crate box because I wanted to open it right away! A couple of my friends got their boxes a day earlier than me and said my picture was in the magazine inside this month's box! I wanted to see it for myself so I dived right in!

PAX Prime 2013

To say I had a blast at PAX Prime would be an understatement! I seriously had an amazing time!! This was by far the largest convention I've ever attended. I was lucky to win a badge from Grimm Bros and find a hotel near the convention center last minute. So I felt like a VIP 🙂 It was great walking around downtown Seattle with fellow nerds everywhere you looked. I could definitely see myself living here someday.
Overall, this trip is one for the record books. I went by myself but met up with friends I've met via social media. I got to see so many cool video games and cosplays, and parts of Seattle. I never thought I would get such an amazing opportunity. Once I got home, I was exhausted but also so thankful for everything I had just experienced! So if you ever get the chance to attend a PAX convention DO ITTTTT!
I posted all of my photos on my Facebook so please look through that album because there's a lot in there that I just didn't have room to put in this post.
More photos after the break!!!! >>>

I’m Addicted to Animal Crossing: New Leaf!

I have been playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf since the day after it was released and have been addicted to it this whole time! That’s like … months .. MONTHS! It’s as bad as those Tamagotchi’s when I was a kid.. You gotta check it every day and take care of it and things happen each day or you’ll miss it.. It’s just so much fun 😀 Well I wanted to share a post about some of my favorite pieces of art and crafts I’ve found online!
First off, this is the signature that I made for my account on The Bell Tree Forums. It’s such a handy website to use to ask questions, get tips and advice, sell/buy/trade items, and toss decorating ideas around. I am a new member, but I wish I had joined sooner! It’s been so helpful.
My signature shows my current villagers as well as my “dreamies.” A dreamie is a villager you wish you had! In the game your citizens might decide they want to move out (you can ask your favorites to stay) and then you’ll get a new one to move in. Sometimes you can go to someone else’s town and ask a villager that’s ready to move to come to yours. But people charge a lot to trade the popular villagers. The most popular is probably Julian the Unicorn  .. I have him on my dreamie list, too!
This is my Town Hall and the custom flag I doodled myself! I meant to make a better flag, but this is just so silly/cute I can’t seem to want to change it now!
Here I am standing next to Blanche who is an ostrich! She was asleep on a tree stump! lol
This is my favorite project that has been requested to be built so far. The windmill! I am hoping my villagers will request the “fairytale” items soon.
Art by KiruLEL
This is Isabelle the town secretary. Honestly, she does most of the work (even though I’m called the “Mayor”)  .. She is awesome and so sweet! I love how excited she gets for town events.
Art by Chrecand
Your character in the game isn’t an animal .. You’re actually human .. But you get to customize your looks! So this artwork shows someone’s view of their mayor. I tend to change my character’s hair color and style quite a bit, but so far the purple and blue has been my favorite. So I loved this art! And by using QR codes you can totally customize your clothes, too.
I had seen this art floating around Pinterest and Tumblr quite a bit and was happy to find the original artist. I want to get better at art so I can draw my own character one day.
Etsy store UnicornismMeetsACNL
I think this is such a cute idea!! In the game your villagers will sometimes give you a picture of themselves for your house. It’s kind of a big deal to get these. So it’d be really special to make a photo of you favorite villager and actually put it on your desk in real life!
Etsy store SoapyBacon
This is a pattern to crochet Stitches (one of my dreamies!) out of yarn. I know how to crochet but have never made anything besides a scarf, lol … So would be fun to try making this cutie!
Definitely adding this to my wishlist. Although I wish it were a necklace. Could always put the charms on a longer chain!
Etsy store ShelbyGoad
I don’t drink much coffee.. and if I do it’s usually an iced drink.. But I still ask for a holder when I go to Starbucks because then my hand doesn’t get cold holding the cup! So this koozie is cute because it features Brewster who runs the the cafe called The Roost.
:+:+:+:+:+:+:
I am so in love with this game! There is just SO much to do in it that I didn’t even begin to mention here! I am sure I will post more about it as the seasons change. Because they add new items and events as the year goes on. I also hope to one day make my own Animal Crossing crafts. Maybe I’ll host a giveaway, too, for other fans of the game!
Here is my Nintendo 3DS friend code if you would like to add me: 3840-6126-6273
Or you can visit my dream address: 5500-2197-6202
