PAX Prime 2013

To say I had a blast at PAX Prime would be an understatement! I seriously had an amazing time!! This was by far the largest convention I’ve ever attended. I was lucky to win a badge from Grimm Bros and find a hotel near the convention center last minute. So I felt like a VIP 🙂 It was great walking around downtown Seattle with fellow nerds everywhere you looked. I could definitely see myself living here someday.
Overall, this trip is one for the record books. I went by myself but met up with friends I’ve met via social media. I got to see so many cool video games and cosplays, and parts of Seattle. I never thought I would get such an amazing opportunity. Once I got home, I was exhausted but also so thankful for everything I had just experienced! So if you ever get the chance to attend a PAX convention DO ITTTTT!
I posted all of my photos on my Facebook so please look through that album because there’s a lot in there that I just didn’t have room to put in this post.
More photos after the break!!!! >>>

As soon as I landed in Seattle, I dropped off my things at my hotel and walked over to the convention center. It was already packed with people!
First thing I had to do was get my badge .. I had no idea where to go! 😀

Found them! I can’t thank Grimm Bros enough for picking me as a winner! It was great meeting Eric of Impact Props, cosplayer Missyeru (who was dressed as Red Robin) and photographer Martin Wong.
Then I walked around the convention to get a feel of everything and pick up my goodie bag.

I just had to buy one of these Scott Pilgrim coins from the Oni Press booth!
I was excited to see the SOE booth since I had just been to SOE Live a few weeks before PAX. They talked about EQNext, and I was happy there was always a big crowd surrounding them. I didn’t get to learn anything new about the game, though. They just repeated the same slideshow I saw at SOE Live.

After the exhibits closed my first evening there, I decided to walk down to the Pikes Place Market. Since it was after 6pm, most of stores were already closed. But there were plenty of people taking photographs and enjoying the view. I admit I had goosebumps when I took this photo. It was truly magical 🙂

This was the first Starbucks that opened in 1971! It was so different looking and had such a cool vibe.

I decided I just HAD to order something from here.. So I got a Mocha Frappucino 🙂

Here’s a funny story.. After my visit to Pikes Place Market, I came back to the convention center and hung out in the Nintendo Lounge. The exhibit rooms were closed so there were a lot of people just hanging out playing games here. I was sitting on a bench taking advantage of all the StreetPass opportunities when I noticed the guy next to me kept getting asked for photos and autographs. Finally, I had to ask him “I’m sorry, but WHO are you?”  … LOL … I think I caught him off guard (in a good way) because he laughed and said he owns this company called Rooster Teeth. I had heard one of my salon clients mention that name before, but I didn’t know what it was. So he explained and I told him how I was sorry I was clueless .. lol .. But that it was cool meeting him anyway! We StreetPassed each other (which I think is way cooler than an autograph) and I gave him one of my blog cards before he left. Well later that night he invited me to meet some of his friends from Rooster Teeth! Unfortunately I already had other plans, but seriously how cool is that! 😀

On Saturday I wore my Annie cosplay from League of Legends. This was me and Harley’s Joker .. he was in character the whole time! I wish I had pics of me on stage at the LOL costume contest. I did find these videos on YouTube:
 I’m the Annie at 0:42 and 0:58
I’m on stage as Annie at 1:25
There’s also a few photos of my Annie on these websites:

These were my favorite cosplays! It’s Cyrus and Reese from Animal Crossing: New Leaf! After I took the photo Cyrus asked if I would like a chocolate bell! (He had chocolate coins in his bell pouch to hand out!)

This was my other favorite outfit. She is from Guild Wars 2.

On Sunday I wore my Ramona Flowers cosplay. I was excited to head over to the Oni Press booth (that is who publishes the Scott Pilgrim comics).. The guy at the booth took my photo and posted it on their Twitter page!

Then a few other Ramonas to show up!!! It was so cool! He took another picture of us and posted it to the Oni Press Twitter. I tweeted the picture, too, and tagged Bryan Lee O’Malley and HE FAVORITED my tweet!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

In the Nintendo Lounge, I was able to play on the new 2DS system. It was pretty cool, but I am so use to my XL screen that I probably won’t be buying a 2DS any time soon. It would be great for someone younger since there is no hinge that could break. I don’t use the 3D option on mine and most other people I talked to said the same. So maybe if they made this in a XL size I would consider it.

This super awesome Gideon cosplay and myself were filmed for the SneakyZebra cosplay video! It shows my acting debut!
My Annie is at 2:00 and Ramona Flowers is at 2:31

I really wanted to play the Elder Scrolls but it had a craaaazy long line.

I did wait in line to play the Magic: The Gathering Online and get a free pin for my lanyard. This game was great for me because I’ve been wanting to learn how to play Magic better. But since I don’t have anyone to play with now I can right from my iPad or computer!
Another game I played a demo of was Strife. It was a lot like League of Legends except it was more of an RPG than PVP. I enjoyed it so much that I will probably get it when it comes out. The Strife booth had excellent marketing because if you played the demo you got this cute plush. All day long people were asking me where I got it! So Strife got some major advertising that way 🙂
This is some of the swag I brought home from PAX. A lot of it was free!  I did buy the MLG t-shirt and the Sanshee necklaces. The mouse and earbuds were in my goodie bag for entering the League of Legends costume contest!!
:+:+:+:+:
So basically this was the most amazing trip ever!! I got to see and do so much! Be sure to look through my Facebook album for a bunch more pics.
What games are you looking forward to being released?

OMGLITZY: Pixie Visits the Vet

Pixie Visits the Vet

If you’ve been following my Facebook and Instagram then you know that Pixie recently had to visit the vet. I wanted to share her story with any readers that might not know all the details.
Let me backtrack a little here: Pixie was already declawed on all four paws before I adopted her 3 years ago. However, when I first got her, I noticed a single claw on her back foot. So I took her to the vet and she told me that it looked like one of her claws had grown back. It looked healthy and as long as Pixie didn’t show any signs of pain then it was probably fine to leave alone. Well a couple of weeks ago Pixie had some dried blood on her front paw, and I was worried something was wrong. Pixie was due for an annual check up and a respiratory shot so I figured it was good to bring her in anyway. After the check up the vet found a big hole in Pixie’s paw where a claw was growing in. Pixie had been chewing on it so the vet cleaned it really good, gave her an antibiotic shot and a cone to wear so she won’t be able to lick it. The vet also suggested Pixie get a dental cleaning because she had really red gums and signs of some bad teeth. So I scheduled another appointment and took my poor cone-head kitty home.

Warning: Possibly squeamish photo after the break.

This was taken after I got Pixie home from the first visit. You can see how the “hole” is up high on top of the paw.

Pixie HATED wearing the cone. Even after I decorated it for her! She had trouble walking, eating and drinking, and using the litter box (which I switched to paper litter so it wouldn’t get in her wound). I looked online and found a few “soft cones” for animals. This inflatable round collar was available at Petsmart and Pixie does so much better in it!
Except she dips it in her water sometimes 😛

The above pictures were taken after Pixie’s second vet visit. She came home very disoriented because they had to put her under to do the dental cleaning and X-rays. Turns out she has Feline Tooth Resorption. They had to pull 6 teeth!!! All of her little bottom front teeth (the ones in-between the two big pointy teeth) and one in the back. She had stitches in her gums, too, so I had to smoosh up her food for the next couple of days. The X-rays showed that all of Pixie’s claws were indeed growing back. This is not good news 🙁 The terrible vet that declawed her before I owned her did a botchy job and didn’t remove all he was supposed to. This leftover stuff produced new claws that are now growing back in disfigured ways. Pixie’s next visit will be to see if the hole she chewed on is healed and maybe she can get back to normal. But if more claws keep growing in and she becomes uncomfortable then my vet might have to declaw her again. I really hope that’s not the case, and that Pixie’s paws all stay healthy. Her next visit is this Thursday so hopefully it will be good news!

Here you can see where they had to shave her leg for the IV and the other paw is starting to look healthier since she can’t lick it.
Pixie wanted me to tell all everyone how thankful she is for the love and wishes!

    1. The vet said she shouldn't need to be declawed again for now. That's good news! Hopefully none of them start to grow funky and she'll be fine 🙂

  2. Poor Pixie! She looks really cute and happy in the first cone picture you put before the break… the others, not so much.

I'm not sure how I feel about declawing; I've had cats both with and without claws. But it's really awful that Pixie's first declawing was so horribly done that it's causing her pain and the risk of having to be declawed all over again. I really hope that the nails stay OK and she doesn't need any further surgeries.

You've inspired me to brush my cats' teeth. I've discovered that one of them really likes having her gums rubbed with my finger. I know, that's gross… I'll get the kitty toothbrush soon. I think she'll like it, and I hope the others do too.

  5. omg this is heartbreaking! I didn't know they claws could grow back after being declawed. I hope Pixie recovers soon! That cone/donut thing is adorable and such a great invention! My cats always, always manage to shimmy out of the plastic ones. I will remember this if they ever need to wear one again!

    1. I learned a lot about cats recently, too, lol … I hope Pixie knows how many people care about her! And if your cat does need a cone again (hopefully not!) then the donut one is the way to go! She was able to eat and drink easier and even lay down better.

Scarborough Renaissance Festival 2012

This was my second year to go to the Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie, Tx. Last year I didn’t really dress up or know what to expect.. So this year I really put more effort into it! I feel like you enjoy yourself more if you get into character. And I just love any excuse to be crafty. So I planned on making a simple yet costume-y dress for it. I also made my headpiece and purse.

I made just made a fold over purse out of purple fabric and lined it with a fun green fabric. Then hot glued and pinned some baubles to the outside. My favorite was making the fairy dust jars! They are so cheap at Michael’s and you can put any color glitter in them.
My dress is from Kohl’s but I added the “corset” part myself. It’s just eyelet ribbon with a glitter ribbon through the holes. Just like a shoe with laces. My shirt is from Target, owl necklace is from Sam Moon, shoes are Blowfish and the foxtail is a souvenir I bought at last year’s festival. Thanks to Bleubird Vintage for the tutorial I used to make my flower crown.

I saw this Fairy Garden last year and was excited to find it again. I am inspired to make one of my own now.

You must check out this guy!! He plays the amazing instrument known as a carillon.

This was a real dude! Walking around!

I was selected to give our knight a “favor”  .. I felt so special 🙂

OMGLITZY: Sports Weekend!

Thursday, September 20, 2012

Sports Weekend!

This past weekend I had a sporty time with my Dad by attending a baseball AND soccer game! First up was the Frisco Rough Riders. They are just one level below the Texas Rangers so the turn out is usually pretty good for these guys. I’ve wanted to go to a game all season and with it coming to an end soon we needed to act fast. Unfortunately it turned out to be a rather rainy and cold evening, although I may have enjoyed that more than sweating profusely and getting sunburned. I think we left around the 5th inning because the rain wouldn’t let up but we listened to the game on the radio at home. We won 5-1!

I just love ordering nachos! They are my favorite sport food. These were pretty good but the ones at the soccer game were better.

That is Mike Napoli batting for the Rough Riders. He is the catcher for the Texas Rangers and was out for an injury for a few weeks.

This is Deuce and Daisy being funny with a (fake) dumbbell.. Deuce had a hard time picking it up and of course Daisy just throws it over her shoulder. So cute!
~
So the next night we went to watch a soccer game! The weather was a lot better this time. The FC Dallas Stadium is one of my absolute favorite sport arenas. It’s really clean and the layout is very accommodating. I haven’t always been a soccer fan, but when an MLS team plays just down the street from you you can’t help but feel the spirit! Not to mention the cutest player, Brek Shea, is on their team!

Half time was fun because they had these two cute dogs bouncing soccer balls off their noses to try and score goals! The actual soccer game itself was still 0-0 so half time was almost more entertaining 😛

Then in the 96 minute (they were given 6 extra minutes) FC Dallas player Julian de Guzman hit an amazing goal and we won the game 1-0!!!! It was an epic finale!

  1. Honestly, only the hope of junk food would get me to a sporting event. So what did you enjoy most….food, half-time entertainment, eye candy, or the actual game????

  2. Wow, sounds like you had a great week-end and those were great pics! I bet you were really full if you ate that hot dog and all those nachos!!

OMGLITZY: The Zelda Symphony

The Zelda Symphony

The Legend of Zelda™: Symphony of the Goddesses is the first ever video game themed concert to feature a complete 4-movement symphony.”
After weeks of putting my costume together, I finally was able to show it off! My parents and I ventured to downtown Dallas early to find a good parking spot for the symphony. The line was already pretty long so we jumped right in. A few people started asking for my photo, but it wasn’t until we were inside that the crowds really grew! It was fun meeting other fans and giving little girls hugs. I felt like a Disney Princess at Disney World. The music itself was amazing and gave me chills. I especially loved the Ocarina of Time segment and any time they showed Link and Epona. There wasn’t much Skyward Sword shown, but we saw my outfit once or twice. If you ever get a chance to see this show please do!! Even non-Zelda fans are sure to enjoy the enchanting atmosphere 🙂
I’ll be wearing this costume on Saturday (tomorrow) to the Dallas Fan Days.
Click below to see more photos

Yikes! Scary before pic but it shows my make up! Hehe

I did some contouring on my nose to make it more elf-like.

With the Pixinator
They wouldn’t let me bring my harp in! They said it was considered a weapon?! So my dad had to take it back to the car 🙁

Not many others were dressed up so the few of us that were were a hit!

Feeling famous

His shirt was so cool!

I am pretty positive this was Ann Ward – the winner of cycle 15 of America’s Next Top Model. I was too nervous to ask.. I wish I had, tho! She was my favorite!

  1. That's an amazing costume! You must have worked really hard on it, and it looks great!

I saw Symphony of the Goddesses earlier this year. I loved hearing all the wonderful Zelda music. The Skyward Sword logo with the sun rays that they had up before the concert (you got a picture of it) was really awesome looking. I love that you got a picture of the dancing Goron too.

    Glad you had fun!

OMGLITZY: Tutorial: Princess Celestia Cosplay

Tutorial: Princess Celestia Cosplay

In My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Princess Celestia is the co-ruler of Equestria alongside her sister Princess Luna. I had been dreaming of cosplaying Celestia for a long time because she is so majestic and beautiful. She has such a kind and gentle spirit and is a wonderful mentor to Twilight Sparkle and the other ponies. I love her pastel rainbow mane and golden armored accessories.  So for this tutorial I will show you how I made my cosplay!

The first thing I made was her accessories. I started with the crown and drew the design on newspaper to make a pattern. Then I cut it out of a sheet of craft foam.

I did the same thing for the necklace.

And the bracelets!

Here is everything cut from the foam.

Next I added details to the pieces using more foam and hot gluing them in place.

I even used foam for the purple diamonds because I have not yet learned how to use resin. Foam is just so easy!
The sun staff was also made of foam and took awhile to cut out all the shapes.
I cut a styrofoam ball in half and glued each piece to a circle. Then I sandwiched the sun rays in-between the two circles.
After all the foam pieces were done it was time to paint them with Gesso. Gesso is a canvas primer that helps the paint look more vibrant and prevent it from seeping into the foam. It also gives it more stability. You’ll want to paint about two or three coats of it – waiting to let it dry between each coat.
After the Gesso was completely dry, I spray painted all my pieces metallic gold.

I also did the bracelets but they are not pictured here. And that trident was for my Sailor Ariel cosplay that I made at the same time as Celestia. The pole on the staffs is a PVC pipe that I sanded, gesso’d, and spray painted.
To wear the crown, I hot glued two hair combs on it so the teeth would stay really secure in my wig’s netting.

I also painted the diamond with purple acrylic paint then sprinkled glitter onto it.
I did the same technique to the diamonds on the necklace and the bracelets. I wore the bracelets by gluing velcro to them and the necklace was wedged into my carpet for a few days to give it a bent look.

The wings were based off of Princess Celestia’s actual design. I enlarged her wings on my computer and taped some tissue paper to it. Then I used a highlighter to trace her wings.

I then traced the pattern onto some newspaper since it’s thicker and easier to work with.

For the structure of the wings I took a clothes hanger and trimmed and bent it into a U shape. I sandwiched the wire in-between the two pieces of foam with hot glue.

Finally, I wrapped the wire with some white ribbon and then added longer ribbon so I could tie the wings on around my shoulders.

The dress I used was one I found at a garage sale. It was a little too short for me so I had to alter it some. For Celestia any white dress will do. But I was very happy to find one that had a Renaissance look to it.
My wig is the Candy Striper in Harmony from Arda Wigs. I split the bangs down the middle and pinned them back with bobby pins. Then I put some of the hair over the back of my crown to help keep it in place. My eyeshadow is gold to green to purple, I used a light shimmery lip gloss, and I made my cheeks a light pink. I didn’t have time to order purple contact lenses so I photoshopped them in this photo.
Some finishing touches I added was a gold rope belt and some rhinestones on the staff. I’m really happy with how this cosplay looked! It was one of my favorites to wear because of the magical and girly feel to it. Cosplaying as a My Little Pony character is a lot of fun since you can have more creative freedom with the design.
I wore this cosplay to AKon 2014, and you can see more pictures in this blog post!

  1. I like that you use foam 🙂 I've seen many cosplay tutorials that involve resin and they look great, buuut since I'm not a super serious cosplayer I'm not interested in getting into all that, hahah! Once you have the foam pieces painted they look really nice.

Also, I'd like to ask about how you finished the wings (did you use paint or wood glue or nothing at all) and what you think is the best way to cut foam since my edges never come out that clean 😉

OMGLITZY: What I’m Listening To: Muse & Paramore

What I’m Listening To: Muse & Paramore

It’s been a good year for music! I was able to see Muse a few weeks ago at the American Airlines Center along with Dead Sara. I wasn’t a big fan of Dead Sara’s set, but Muse did not disappoint! We had VIP tickets that included a limited edition poster, water bottle, tote bag and access to a VIP lounge. Honestly, the lounge was SO cool I could have stayed there all evening. It wasn’t packed either, so you could enjoy the food and drinks and take plenty of pictures. Muse put on an amazing show with a really cool stage setup. They had a moving pyramid with lights and videos all over it. Their music is incredibly epic, and I have this theory that a Muse song will be playing when it’s the end of the world. 😛
I wore a Roxy hoodie, Hello Kitty shoes by Vans, and my Ramona Flowers purse from Amazon

I am also a big Paramore fan, and I’m really impressed with their new self-titled album! My favorite song right now is definitely “Still Into You”.. It’s so dang catchy! I also love Hayley Williams’ outfit in the video. I looked up her neon melting tights and found them by Urb Clothing. I’ll get to see Paramore this month at Edge Fest along with my favorite band The Gaslight Anthem. And next month I have a ticket to see The Killers!
:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:
Who is your favorite band?
Have you seen any concerts this year?

  1. I've heard that Muse puts on an incredible show. I haven't made it out to watch any shows this year. Outside of work, I've been buried under commission work. I probably should get out a little more! One of my favorite bands is Tokyo Police Club. I'd like to see them when they come back to Dallas.

Apparently, this is not my year for concerts. Things always seem to come up for me so I haven't been to a show since last June. But man, do those pics look epic.

I missed them when they were in SA a few years ago and it still bums me out:( I have just been to see Rise Against and Bring Me The Horizon and I am hoping a few more bands will stop in Durban this year too.

Disney World 2012

I kind of joked with my dad that when he retired we would celebrate at Disney World. But we made it happen!! He helped make a dream come true for me, and I was able to cross something off my bucket list. He earned a true vacation after working way too hard for the railroad, and I’m secretly a 12 year old in a 26 year old’s body. I’m a Disney princess through and through. We stayed at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa close to the Magic Kingdom and even made a trip to visit Universal Studios so I could check out the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I can’t really pick my favorite moment .. they all were so amazing! But seeing Hogwarts and eating at the Three Broomsticks was definitely cool. I also really enjoyed the parades and firework shows at the Magic Kingdom. My favorite rides were the Tower of Terror and Aerosmith’s Rockin’ Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios. Man, just reminiscing makes me want to go back again! Here are a few photo highlights of the trip! 🙂

Happy Things #2

Is it too soon to post another Happy Things? Nah! I couldn’t resist sharing a photo of the headband I mentioned finding in a drawer. Got quite a few compliments on it at work. It’s from Sam Moon.

And I may have gone a little overboard with the kitty condo .. But Pixie loves to climb! And it was really cheap at Ross. Typically, a condo of this size runs about $200+ and I got it for only $100. Woot!

Pixie looking uber cute next to some soft pillows.
And this doesn’t exactly qualify as a “happy” thing, but I wanted to share it. Last night we had some crazy storms roll through that kept me and the kitty up. This was some of the aftermath. I saw a lot of other cars with limbs on them, and the power to my garage stopped working. It’s been a wild morning so far!

Nailed It

Late last night I couldn’t fall asleep so I had a mini manicure session. I like to keep my nails as short as I can so it’s easier for me to shampoo my client’s hair. (Something feels weird when I’m scratching people’s head with long nails). I used some old polish from Sally Hansen. It has my name written on the bottles from when I would take them to cosmetology school.

I love doing multi-colors .. It’s so funky!
I was inspired by my toes that I did last week. This was OPI.

Happy Things! #1

A recurring post I would like to have will feature some random things that make me happy. Properly calling these posts “Happy Things!” So here are a few I found while searching iPhoto:

My pink sparkly TOMs.

Pixie in a box.

Found this headband in a drawer the other day and can’t wait to wear it.

Happy buckets my mom got for me. I use these at work to hold my pens.

I love sitting on the balcony with Pixie. I had to put duct tape (Hello Kitty kind of course) on parts of the wall so she wouldn’t get splinters when she stretches.

Pixie’s Story

Now that I’ve introduced myself a little bit, I think it’d be great if my next post was all about my best friend! As I mentioned before, her name is Pixie =^.^= and I am not bragging when I say she is the greatest kitty in the whole entire galaxy.

I had been wanting to adopt a cat for a while, and after going through a bit of a hard time I was feeling pretty down. So I decided to look into adopting. I knew I wanted to get a rescue animal, so I looked on PetFinder for a few days. I narrowed my search down to an older cat that would already be litter box trained and one that was also already declawed (I don’t have it in me to do that to a cat, but it sure saves your furniture). Pixie popped right up on the list near my city and the pictures they posted of her drew me right in!!

I mean REALLY?? How can you NOT save this kitty with a face like that?? I filled out the application for Frisco Humane Society and got a call back from her foster mom. I drove out to the foster house to check her out. She was a little timid, you could tell she didn’t mind people but wasn’t too pleased with the other cats trying to play with her. They guessed she was about 4 years old, and must have been in  some type of accident that badly scarred her ear. But no worries – it’s very healthy and cute as a button. I just have to help her clean the wax out sometimes, hehe.
I later learned from Pixie’s first foster mom that she was found in a town about 30 minutes north of me and was put in a kill shelter. A worker thought she was a Scottish Fold because of her ear so she called her friend that loved that breed of cat. When the friend came to see her she knew right away this wasn’t a Scottish Fold but she was just too cute to leave in a kill shelter. So she took her in and became Pixie’s first foster mom. Eventually the other foster mom took her and had been waiting for the right family to adopt her. She didn’t want her going to a family with kids or other animals because Pixie is kind of prissy and doesn’t like to be tugged on. But now that she has her own home she’s incredibly affectionate and gives me hugs all the time. (She really wraps her arms around my neck!) I’m considering adopting another cat now that I’ve had Pixie for nearly 2 years. She is very clingy to me and I just hate leaving her alone during the day while I am at work. But we will have to see how she handles that! 😛
If you are considering bringing an animal into your home, I highly suggest you adopt one from a rescue shelter. Not only is the pet going to be eternally grateful, but you will feel just how special they are, too!
This was Pixie and I on our 1st anniversary (I celebrate it as her birthday)

Pixie is a happy happy kitty that loves tissue paper, boxes and sacks! 🙂

My Cosplay Interviews

A few weeks ago, I was interviewed for some pretty cool websites. I had shared these interviews on my Facebook and Twitter, but I don’t think I added the links to a post here on my blog. Please check out their sites and give them a follow!
First up is Comic Book Divas. I was able to meet Bob in person a few times at different conventions in town. They always have a booth set up with tshirts and cosplayer photos for sale. Their website offers a news article section, contests, and showcase real women in their comics.
The next interview was done by Zero Fortitude. These guys produce a fun podcast as well as articles to read. They discuss and review a wide range of geek culture from movies to anime to comics. And of course, cosplay!
I feel very honored to be selected by entertainment sites for interviews. I am such a newbie cosplayer, and have so much to learn, but I am grateful my craft has been noticed. So please please check out their sites, follow their podcasts and updates, and show them some love.

On a personal note.. I am going to SOE Live in Las Vegas this week! So be sure to follow my Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for photos while I am there. When I get back in town I will work on a blog post about it. I am so so soooooo excited to hang out with my guild members from EverQuest 2. This convention is going to be a blast.

Tutorial: Princess Peach Crown

I will be cosplaying Princess Peach soon and started by making the crown first! Here is an easy tutorial on how to make your own Princess Peach crown:
*Edit*
Due to the popularity of this post, I decided to create a template you can print out to help make the crown! All you have to do is click HERE to view the full size image and click FILE>PRINT. Be sure to select LANDSCAPE.
I made the template in color just in case you didn’t want to use sheet foam. Just cut it out and glue the ends together! The paper crown would be great for little kids!
Supplies needed:
Gold glitter sheet foam, red & blue gems, scissors, pencil, tacky glue, hot glue gun, and a skinny headband
*I purchased all these supplies at Hobby Lobby*

I made a pattern first to make sure it would look good on my head. This is actually still too tall here.. I later trimmed it some more. Please see my template to print your own. But it’s always better to make it too big than too small then you can go back and fix it!

So I traced my pattern onto the back of my sheet foam and added an extra lip to the edge where I knew I would eventually connect the two ends together.

I cut out two so I could tacky glue them together. This way the inside of the crown is pretty like the outside.

Next I hot glued the gems on and then attached the ends together using the small extra tab.

Then I hot glued it to a skinny headband. You could also glue hair clips instead but I think a headband is more secure.

Tada!

I also made her brooch by taking an oval shaped gem and glueing it to some sheet foam. Then attached a brooch pin to the back.

Excuse my silly face, this was late at night! But here I am wearing my new crown and brooch! I have since purchased a pattern and fabric so I can make Princess Peach’s big dress so check back for progress on that 🙂

Anyone going to make a crown?
Send me pics if you do!

Happy Things #16

Happy happy happy!
First thing on my happy list is the progress on my Legolas cosplay! I just got this amazing green suede coat/dress from a vintage seller on Etsy. I’m going to alter it to become Legolas’ tunic!
I also received my custom made leather bracers. These have the same pattern that are on Legolas’ and are designed to fit my tiny wrists. The seller RenManLeather did an amazing job. I could have never made something as beautiful as these. I also have the cloak, leggings and bow, but I will save those for a later post 🙂
Another fun project I worked on is a Princess Peach crown! As of now, I only have the crown, pendant, and gloves, but soon I hope to buy a pattern and fabric to make her dress. I also took pictures of how to make this crown. It was really easy!! So I would like to post a tutorial on that soon.
And I haven’t forgotten about the giveaway I promised! I finished the green and red Yoshi eggs, but still need to paint the blue one.
Looks like I was having a detailed discussion about Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I love this game!!!
Here is my dream address if you’d like to see my town! My flowers are out of control, but the rest is pretty cool 🙂
Pixie loves to play Animal Crossing, too!
And when I’m not on my Nintendo 3DS, I am probably playing EverQuest 2. I can’t believe SOE Live is in 3 weeks!!! I can’t wait to hang out with my guild members 🙂
This was a super fun cut and color I did a few weeks ago at my salon. This kid rocks!
This may have been one of my favorite outfits of the summer so far. It was super comfy and had just the right amount of flair. And you can see Pixie taking a love bite out of my phone, too!
Speaking of Pixie… here she is being cute in a sack!!
And finally.. here I am feeling happy by the pool. I never ever ever spend time outside.. which I am totally fine with.. but for some reason I decided to put my toes in the other day and now I am hooked! I sat outside again and actually got a little color on my legs. I take skin care seriously so I always wear a hat and sunscreen (and you should, too).. but it’s been fun being the super pale, tattooed girl amongst the uber tan beach bods at the pool… hahaha .. Maybe one day I will be brave and actually get in it. 🙂
Happy Summer everyone!

ScrewAttack Gaming Convention 2013

At the last minute I decided to attend the ScrewAttack Gaming Convention. It was June 21-23 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dallas. I only went on Saturday afternoon, but I am so glad I did! It was a blast! My costume for the day was Princess Zelda from Skyward Sword. I wanted to make a Princess Peach outfit, but didn’t quite finish it in time. So that will be saved for a later convention. 🙂 This was a smaller event compared to some I’ve been to in the past. I enjoyed being able to walk around with ease and not be stuck in a huge group of people. There were still plenty there to meet and chat with, too. I saw a few of my friends and met a couple new ones. My favorite part of the convention was the dealer’s room and the arcade room. I’m a big gamer girl, and the dealer’s room was packed with gaming goodies! I wanted to buy one of everything. Then, downstairs in the arcade room, you could play new and classic games. I had the most fun watching people play Dance Central and my friend, Sean, compete in the Halo 4 tournament. At one point we even sat and played Animal Crossing: New Leaf on our Nintendo 3DS’s. I could have stayed at this convention forever!! 😀
I wish I could have taken more pictures, but it’s just too hard to carry a camera when I am in a costume. But I managed to ask someone if they could snap a photo with my cellphone of me and my friends. This was Sean (Team Fortress 2), me (Skyward Sword), Krystal (Portal 2), Robert (Uncharted) and DesiRee (Borderlands 2).
So the following photos were not taken by me, but I linked the source underneath each set! Be sure to click the links to view all the awesome pics from SGC.
The official SGC albums show a lot of pics from the panels and speaker room.
*****
I was so honored to have my pic chosen for the cover of the Lifted Geek article. Definitely give it a read!
*****
My friend Laura runs the site Dallas Fan Girl. I love bumping into her at conventions! So glad she snapped this photo since I couldn’t take one. Her review of SGC is awesome. Can’t wait to see her again 🙂
*****

These photos by Hybrid Rain came out so good! I love the candid shot of my Zelda.
*****
Samkyo took a lot of great photos, too. I especially loved this last one of the giant banner downstairs. I wanted to take that home with me!

What’s your favorite video game?
Do you prefer PC or console gaming?
Have you ever been to a gaming convention?

P.S. I will be posting another giveaway soon! I made some really cool Yoshi eggs that I can’t wait to share. So be sure to check back for your chance to win one! 😉

Top 5 Fav Halloween Movies

October is one of my favorite months of the year! Spooky decorations, cooler weather, and another reason to dress up in costume! Halloween is in just a few days, and I’ve seen several of my friends post all month what movies they’ve been watching to get in the holiday mood. So here is my list of my favorite Halloween movies!
1. The Halloween Tree
This is my all-time favorite Halloween movie. I remember watching it as a kid and not only enjoying it immensely but learning, too. It was the first time I saw how Halloween is celebrated in different ways throughout the world. The main story of how the kids are trying to save their friend will pull your heartstrings, too.
2. Saw II
I’m not a big fan of horror movies. I actually can’t handle gore all that well. But for some reason the second Saw movie is one of my favorites. I still watch it with semi-closed eyes, though! I like how hey are all in a house together and each room has a different “game”. Out of the few Saw films I’ve seen this one stands out in my mind as the most exciting to watch. (Be sure to check out my makeup tutorial for Billy – the creepy doll from the movie!)
3. Edward Scissorhands
It’s hard not to include all of Tim Burton’s movies on my list, but Edward Scissorhands seems to be a very special film to me. The idea of a man with hands of scissors should come off as unnerving, but this films makes Edward appear more magical and soft than creepy or scary. If anything, it’s the rest of the town that makes your skin crawl which is exactly why this movie is so great. It’s beautiful and happy and sad and totally great for Halloween.
4. The Addams Family
Dun dun dun dun *clap clap* dun dun dun dun *clap clap*
“They’re creepy and they’re kooky; mysterious and spooky!”
Gosh this movie is so rad I almost stopped blogging just go watch it right now. The Addams Family totally embodies Halloween for me. Each character is so unique with mysterious personal characteristics! Put the whole family together in a wickedly awesome house and you’ve got one of the coolest families on the block.
5. Jeepers Creepers
I’m just as surprised as you are that Jeepers Creepers is on my list since I don’t like scary movies. But whenever it is on TV I can’t help but watch it. It’s a rather simple story, but jeez that monster really freaks me out. It’s one of the few horror movies that I actually like the ending of, too. And the song is just so catchy and fun to sing! “Jeepers creepers, where’d you get those peepers?”
Honorable mention:
Hocus Pocus, Underworld, Sleepy Hollow
You can’t have a Halloween list without Hocus Pocus! It’s a must-watch movie for the holiday. And Underworld is my favorite vampire movie. I would love to cosplay as Selene someday. Also, when I saw Sleepy Hollow in the theaters I couldn’t get over how beautiful it was. Christopher Walken also spooked me quite a bit.

So let me know in the comments what some of your favorite Halloween movies are!

Dallas Fan Days 2014

This past weekend was the October edition of Dallas Comic Con! It was originally called "Fan Days" but I just learned that they will be renaming their 3 conventions. (If you're curious – February's will be Fan Days, May's will be Dallas Fan Expo, and October's will be Dallas Comic Con) But anyway I will probably still refer to this one as Fan Days for now 😀
They had announced early on that Elijah Wood and the Phelps twins from Harry Potter would be attending! I immediately bought a premium badge because I knew I would want to meet them. They also announced Alex Kingston (Doctor Who), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Burt Ward and Adam West (Batman and Robin) but they all sadly had to cancel. There were still several other great guests from Indian Jones and The Goonies as well as some big named comic book artists. I am totally blaming the Ebola scare that happened in Dallas this month for the cancellations. Thankfully I think it's all under control now!

Pixie’s 4th Adoptaversary

On September 24th, we celebrated Pixie’s 4th adoptaversary! Since I don’t know her exact birthday, we throw a party on the day she was adopted. Pixie’s adoption story can be read in this post here. I definitely recommend adopting an animal from a shelter because they bring you so much happiness!
She always tries to jump in my laundry hamper so I decided to buy one for her to play with.

She went right inside!

Here she is saying “THANK YEW I LUVS IT!”

“I luvs my new kitty cave!”

I also fixed her a special meal of turkey, salami and a few kitty treats.

“I can haz my dinner, pwease?”

She really enjoyed it to say the least! She licked the plate clean!
:+:+:+:
I am so thankful to have Pixie in my life and hope to celebrate many many more adoptaversaries!
