Glitzy Geeky Jewelry

They don’t call me “Glitzy Geek Girl” for nothing! If there’s one thing I love most it’s jewelry! I’ve always been drawn to shiny and sparkly accessories. My collection has grown quite a bit over the years, and for this blog post I wanted to showcase a few of my favorite “geeky” jewelry items.

From left to right:
This blue orb/dragon claw necklace was bought at my first visit to the local Renaissance festival. Even though it’s on a basic cord, I’ve always liked the look and feel and wear this a lot when I’m playing a mmorpg. The next necklace is from Think Geek. I got this when I first started watching The Big Bang Theory. Third, is a necklace from a store called Brighton. They are not known for geekiness at ALL, however, my mom got this for me as a gift because it reminded her of Captain America (a character she and I both admire)! I wear it for safe wishes when I travel. The fourth necklace is from Kuma Crafts and one of the most exsquisite pieces I own. It’s so well made and has such a vibrant color to it. Any Sailor Moon fan needs to get their hands on one of Kuma Crafts’ pieces! The Tinkerbell necklace is from MyHoard on Etsy. I bought this because it was handmade and very reasonably priced. I love the simplicity and magical touch to it.

From left to right:
The Triforce and Starman necklaces are by Sanshee. I bought these when I went to PAX Prime in Seattle. They have several other Legend of Zelda necklaces that I’d like to get my hands on someday. Next in the photo is a Rubik’s Cube made by me out of Shrinky Dink! I made this necklace probably 7 or 8 years ago when I was on a Shrinky Dink kick. I had a Yoshi and Stitch necklace, too, but sadly could not find them. The Deathly Hallows necklace is from Hot Topic. I purchased it around the time the final movies were being released. And the final necklace is a very thoughtful Hello Kitty piece from my mom. She surprised me with it on my last day as a manager at my old salon.
These wonderful items are from The Lord of the Rings. I bought the leaf brooch on eBay to use for my Legolas cosplay. The best part is you can wear it as a necklace, too. The middle necklace is the Evenstar that Arwen gives to Aragorn. This is also from eBay and is SO beautiful in person. I wore it when I cosplayed as her and met Billy Boyd! (Note: The exact sellers I bought these from no longer sell them, but you can do an eBay search and find many others.) And finally, I am sure you recognize the One Ring. I actually have a confession – I “borrowed” this from a friend when I was in high school. He bought the LoTR board game and this ring from it was so nice and high quality I asked if I could wear it and never gave it back. MY PRECIOUS!!
It’s no secret that I am really into The Vampire Diaries and Twilight. So naturally I have some vampire inspired jewelry as well! From left to right: the necklace and two blue rings are Lapis Lazuli. It’s the type of stone the vampires wear in The Vampire Diaries to allow them to walk in the sunlight. I read the books and fell in love with the tv show so my mom bought and mailed me the big necklace and small ring. The package sadly got lost in the mail and I was in tears! However, luck was on our side because it finally made it to me. The middle Lapis Lazuli ring is a replica of Damon Salvatore’s from eBay. It’s way too big for me so I wear it on a chain. Next up are my Twilight goodies. At the top is a bracelet from Hot Topic that has the quote “I dream about being with you forever.” The ring on the left is a moonstone ring similar to Bella’s. I bought it on Etsy many many years ago after reading the first book. The super sparkly one is a replica of Bella’s engagement ring. I searched all over for it and finally found it at a Hastings store. The bracelet next to the rings is of Saint Jude. No idea where I got it (probably Hot Topic?).. and the charm bracelet at the bottom is my pride and joy. I got it from Etsy before the movies were even released. I’m proud of it because it just has such a “real” feeling to it. It’s handmade and feels one of a kind.
Some of my geeky jewelry is just fun things I’ve collected over time. The Legolas ring is one of my all time favorites to wear and is handcrafted by Nerd Burger herself! You can see more of her handmade goodies here. The yellow ring is a cheap plastic toy so you’re probably wondering why it’s special? Well I wore it with my first ever cosplay – Ramona Flowers. She wears a yellow star ring in the comics so I improvised and wore this yellow heart instead to my first Dallas Comic Con. The crown ring is Rapunzel’s tiara. It’s beautiful! I got it on eBay but it looks like the seller is not available anymore. Bottom left is a ring I wear every time I leave the house. It’s a spinner dice ring from CritSuccess. Not only is it uber cool and extra handy for gamers, but it also helps with anxiety. And finally, the bottom right is my replica engagement ring from the Outlander TV show. The real replica is outrageously expensive so I got this cheaper (but still beautiful) version from eBay here.
My glitzy rings!

My geeky necklaces!
Also, in the very first photo at the top of this post I photographed my Pokeball earrings from Pokemon. I totally forgot to take an individual picture of them. I can’t wear regular earrings since my ears are stretched so I like to rock those Pokeball ones I got from SuperKawaiiPlugs.

Do you have any special geeky jewelry?

Happy Things #9

Here’s the latest Happy Things post! Oh how happy these things make me! 😛
This is the sweetest little table from the Frisco Mercantile.

Eating at Casa Rita’s is fun when the little sopapillas look like butts!

The drive-thru guy at Jimmy John’s was asking about my tattoos.. and I may have batted my eyelashes a few times, too. He gave me a free cookie 😛

A little personal enjoyment is getting my nails done. I do love painting them myself but the polish never lasts with my hands always in the water.

Found this cutie on the counter at a new restaurant called Tasty Garden.

It was that time again! Free piece of chocolate at Godiva once a month with a membership. I got a strawberry truffle.
Hard to tell in the photo but these pretty trees were sprinkling their white flowers on my car while I waited in line at Starbucks.
My hair is finally getting to my shoulders.. it’s fun having longer hair for a change.

And I am super happy to have an official sign outside my salon now!

  1. A.) I'm sure I've said it already, but love love LOVE your hair! Seeing gorgeous purple hair everywhere makes me seriously want to add some purple next time I go in. Too bad I already have magenta, blue, light pink, and black planned… not sure if there's space for another color!

B.) How do I not know about this Godiva membership free truffle thing?

    C.) Free cookies = win!

D.) Your nails are pretty. =)

P.S. Included a link to your pinterest & related post in my Thoughts & Things Thursday post today!

Happy Things #24

Here are some things that have made me happy lately!
I am an avid collector of My Little Pony merchandise, and the blind bags you find at Target or Walmart are no exception! I have several duplicates of random ponies so I decided to make hair clips out of them! I have a few that I might put in my Etsy store if there’s enough interest in them 🙂
Having duplicates doesn’t stop me from buying more ponies. I recently got this sparkly Fluttershy!
Here’s Pixie sitting in a tutu!

Owning a pair of Gunnar glasses has been on my wish list for awhile. When I saw they would be at Quake Con (which was a free gaming event) I decided to go and check them out. These were considerably cheaper since I got to buy them from an official booth and not online. I had LASIK on my eyes several years ago, and the bright screen isn’t the best thing to look at for hours. The glasses really do make things sharper, and my eyes don’t feel as stressed out now.

My Gunnar glasses get a lot of use out of them! I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 a whole bunch lately. I kinda play sporadically. But Pixie loves sitting by while I battle dragons.
I played so much lately that I finally got my main character to level 80! I also earned my first title “The Sunbringer”! Ooooohh!!

My friend Krystal had a birthday/moving out party a few weeks ago, and it felt like a perfect time to wear my Hello Kitty dress. I got this from Macy’s last year, and it still had the tags on it!

I also brought these delicious cookies to Krystal’s party.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Heavenly Fire was released several months ago now, and I had entered a few online contests to try and win a signed book and exclusive hoodie. Well, a few days ago this package showed up at my door! I never received an email saying I won, but I assume it was one of the many blogs that was hosting it. I didn’t win the signed book, but seeing the hoodie and rune tattoos gave me the boost I needed to finally finish reading the book.

You are probably looking at this photo and going “Huh?” Haha so let me explain! This is a bowling ball in my backyard! It’s something fun my family likes to find at garage sales and thrift stores. We put the bowling balls around our garden. They kinda look like giant marbles. We found this ball at the local Trade Days for only $5.

My last Happy Things item is this shirt I ordered from Amazon. I have no shame in admitting I love One Direction, and I’m super pumped to see them in concert in a few weeks! So I ordered this shirt to wear to the show. 🙂

  2. That Hello Kitty dress is so cute!!! And those glasses seem like something I need since I have recently decided to delve into Assassin's Creed…and have become a little bit of an addict heehee!
Also, since I work with computers, it seems like a good investment!

  3. Great idea with the duplicate blind bags. I do love me some mystery minis.

Holiday Wish List 2014

These are a few of the spectacular things I have had my eye on this Holiday season!
The new PC I am using came with a great keyboard – but it doesn’t light up at all. I usually like to play in the dark so I’ve had a hard time seeing my keys. I figure go big or go home so I’m asking Santa for the Razer BlackWidow Chroma because it lights up like a RAINBOW! I tried out a Razer keyboard once before and didn’t much care for how loud the keys were – but this one comes in a Stealth edition meaning the keys are a little more quiet.
Source
Minnie Mouse Hat from Disneyland Tokyo
I saw this pic on Kelly Eden’s Facebook page and totally loved the hat that her friend (on the right) was wearing. That is Zilla308 so I asked on her Instagram where she got it. She said it’s from the Disneyland in Tokyo and is available on eBay. After searching, I found the seller (click here) and saw it also comes in purple, pink, and blue! I was ready to order one but it’s kind of expensive. I can’t justify spending that much on a hat so maybe Santa will send an elf to Japan for me and bring one back for Christmas.
Source
Disneyland Paris Anna Pin
Another item that feels a bit out of reach is this Princess Anna pin. It is part of a booster set from the Disneyland in Paris. The set is super cute, but I wouldn’t mind just having Anna. I’m totally taking advantage of the Frozen trend and buying everything I can with my name on it. However, most pins from other countries go up in price quite a bit here in the US.
Source
Pandora Charms
My mom and I had seen these charms before and thought they were not only cute but also quite classy. There is a Pandora store in our local mall and Disney began releasing charms as well. So I looked in to starting a bracelet only to realize these little guys aren’t cheap. That’s good and bad because it means they are very nice but not for my pocketbook. But maybe receiving one charm for each holiday would be a fun start to a new bracelet collection!
One of the great things I love about playing Guild Wars 2 is that it is free-to-play. There is no monthly subscription at all. You pay for it once and you have it for life. The catch is they release limited items, boosters, weapon and armor skins, and cute mini pets in their Gem Store. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t see something in the store I want to buy. So spending real money on Gems is something I’ve had to slow down on, but a gem store card would make a great stocking stuffer! 😀

What are some things on your holiday wish list?

  1. I keep seeing those hats and I really want one but yea, they are expensive. The Pandora bracelet is adorable.

  2. I really want a Pandora (or Pandora-esque) bracelet and they have such great little charms–a great way to be glitzy and geeky 😉 heehee
And those Minnie ears are too cute!

  3. You should check out Helzberg's Expressions. They also have Disney themed charms, even Frozen ones. There's even a pre-built Disney themed starter set bracelet.

  4. I have that keyboard on my wishlist too. Its just so pretty!

  5. Ooohh, I love that Pandora bracelet! I used to have a bracelet in HS that I'd add charms to throughout the year. It was super full by the time I graduated! Love that keyboard too.

March Thoughts

Another month has passed already?! It sure seems like 2016 is zipping by! I would have loved to have filmed March vlog, but there just hasn’t been enough time in the day to do so. I hope you don’t mind another blog post then! :o)

March actually was a lot happier than February. I was recovering from a lot of defeats and have taken time to reflect on how to improve myself. I made a list of some memorable moments from March so let’s dive in!

Dyed hair – One of the most exciting changes this month was dying my hair back to pink. Last October I shaved my head and have been letting it grow without any bleach or dye. It was getting about an inch or so long and was just a boring dark brown color. Since I don’t really have a plan on what to do with it, I decided to dye it pink again! Even though I still wear wigs from time to time, I enjoy having my colorful ‘do back.

Gaming – Let’s start with EQ Next. This is a game that was announced back when I attended SOE Live several years ago. I’ve always been a big Ever Quest fan and was really excited for EQ Next. Well sadly, they announced that the game will no longer be happening. It broke my heart to read about it. I may need to revisit EQ2 soon. In happier news, I’ve been playing a lot of Dragon Mania Legends which is a mobile app game that is very easy and addicting. In March, they released a new “Clans” feature where you can group with friends to earn new rewards. It’s one of the only mobile games I’ve actually stuck with now for a nearly year! Finally let’s get into a recap of Guild Wars 2. This month I decided to make the legendary shield The Flameseeker Prophecies. I had almost all the materials for it and really liked the design so I just went for it. A few days later the devs announced that they were postponing the release of new legendary weapons indefinitely! What!! So that means all this time waiting for the new weapons that they promised with the expansion won’t be happening after all. I admit I was pretty bummed about this news. I would have made the sword Bolt instead of the shield, but I was waiting for the new sword to come out. I guess that won’t happen so now I will be making Bolt next. Some good things that happened in GW2 was the new raid wing, the return of the Bunny Ears and the big giveaway party I hosted on my stream. I gave away lots of prizes and had a fun time in Lions Arch with my friends and guildies. I’ll be hosting a giveaway on the last Friday of every month so if you missed it you can join us for the next one!

Moving – You can read the whole story on this blog post. But the TLDR version is I made a trip down to Houston to look for an apartment and find a new job. I found a very nice place that would be available mid April so I made the jump and signed a lease! I’m nervous and a little sad to be leaving Dallas, but this will be a good opportunity for me. It will be fun to explore a new place and also get back in to the beauty industry for my career. So I am looking forward to the move. It’s just been very hectic now trying to organize, clean, and pack my things in preparation.

Divergent – I saw Allegiant in theaters this month. Here’s my mini review of the new movie: I’ve been a big fan of the books and really loved the first movie. The second movie was okay but seemed too heavy on CGI. I was hoping the 3rd installment of the series would redeem itself but it left me going home really unhappy. It’s like they totally forgot about telling a good story and focused all of their money and energy on visual effects again. Also, Tris just seemed very unlike herself and lost all of her character development. Many of the scenes and lines came off cheesy and nearly made me laugh (and not in a good way.) The only thing I enjoyed about the movie was Four. The actor played his role well and the character made smart decisions and looked like a badass. I enjoyed his moments more than any others, but it still wasn’t enough to get me excited for the last movie due next year.

Easter – It was a little weird having Easter so early. Isn’t it usually in April? My family and I kept things pretty laid back and decided to order pizza for the weekend. I also got some cute cards in the mail and had a great day!

Store – While cleaning out my room and closet I found tons of nice purses, jewelry and decor that I just no longer use -or never used to begin with – and decided to open a Storenvy! I have had 2 sales so far and hope that my other items will find a new home soon. The money will help go towards my move, too! omglitzy.storenvy.com

Pixie update – This actually happened today rather than in March but since it’s fresh on my mind I wanted to fill you in! I took Pixie in for her 2 month check up on the state of her gums and teeth and the vet said things are still looking good! I’m glad the few teeth she has left are doing alright so she won’t need any removed any time soon. I let the vet know that I am moving to Houston and it was a little sad to say goodbye. They’ve been a great clinic to go to and have really taken good care of Pixie. I hope I can find another nice vet in Houston.
That’s about all I can think of for March! Overall I would say it was a very good month. ^.^
Xoxo,
Glitzy

Tutorial: Cinderella 2015 Cosplay

If you're like me then you totally fell in love with all the costumes in the new live action Cinderella movie! Lily James portrayed the princess perfectly! I knew right away that I had to have her dress in my life, but I was scared to take on such a project. Her dress is massive!! So with a little creativity I was able to recreate a version of that magnificent ballgown without breaking the bank. I realize I didn't make a 100% screen accurate cosplay and I'm okay with that. I still felt like a princess wearing this! I'm hoping this semi-homemade tutorial will help inspire someone else that might want to make Cinderella's gown. Enjoy!

Cinderella Inspired Outfit

The new live action Cinderella movie comes out in a few weeks (March 15, 2015) so I decided to put together an inspired outfit. I always end up wearing jeans and a hoodie when I go to the theater… so this is one of those “what I would like to wear” posts! It gives me an excuse to browse fashion websites and hopefully inspire myself to dress up!
This stretch knit skater dress looks so comfy! And for only $15 from Forever 21 your wallet can rest easy, too. The signature light blue color is the perfect hue for our Cinderella outfit.
Cinderella’s classic puffy shoulders are cute and all, but I love the new look of the live action sleeves. To replicate the ruffled neckline I found this glittery fringe scarf from Wet Seal.
It’s all about sparkle and shine for Cinderella, and you don’t need a fairy godmother when you have the internet. Charlotte Russe has these fabulous blinged out glitter tights which are sure to turn a few heads.
A glass slipper may be the key to finding your prince charming so don’t leave home without these gorgeous metallic slip ons also from Charlotte Russe.
Keeping track of the time is incredibly important especially once it gets close to midnight. So don’t be a minute late with this stunning butterfly watch from Mod Cloth.
Complete your look with loose wavy hair and wearing this lovely butterfly headband from Claire’s.

Are you excited to see the new Cinderella movie?
Will you be dressing up?

The Hunger Games: Meeting Peeta

I have a story I need to tell. It's one I've brought up to a few friends before. But I am hoping by typing out my feelings I may finally be able to overcome this grief.
Sounds really dramatic, huh? Well any serious fangirl would understand that when you have the chance of a lifetime – and miss out on it – you're gonna have to figure out how to move on.
So this is my "Meeting Peeta" post that has been on my mind for years now.

Top 5 Fav Halloween Movies

October is one of my favorite months of the year! Spooky decorations, cooler weather, and another reason to dress up in costume! Halloween is in just a few days, and I’ve seen several of my friends post all month what movies they’ve been watching to get in the holiday mood. So here is my list of my favorite Halloween movies!
1. The Halloween Tree
This is my all-time favorite Halloween movie. I remember watching it as a kid and not only enjoying it immensely but learning, too. It was the first time I saw how Halloween is celebrated in different ways throughout the world. The main story of how the kids are trying to save their friend will pull your heartstrings, too.
2. Saw II
I’m not a big fan of horror movies. I actually can’t handle gore all that well. But for some reason the second Saw movie is one of my favorites. I still watch it with semi-closed eyes, though! I like how hey are all in a house together and each room has a different “game”. Out of the few Saw films I’ve seen this one stands out in my mind as the most exciting to watch. (Be sure to check out my makeup tutorial for Billy – the creepy doll from the movie!)
3. Edward Scissorhands
It’s hard not to include all of Tim Burton’s movies on my list, but Edward Scissorhands seems to be a very special film to me. The idea of a man with hands of scissors should come off as unnerving, but this films makes Edward appear more magical and soft than creepy or scary. If anything, it’s the rest of the town that makes your skin crawl which is exactly why this movie is so great. It’s beautiful and happy and sad and totally great for Halloween.
4. The Addams Family
Dun dun dun dun *clap clap* dun dun dun dun *clap clap*
“They’re creepy and they’re kooky; mysterious and spooky!”
Gosh this movie is so rad I almost stopped blogging just go watch it right now. The Addams Family totally embodies Halloween for me. Each character is so unique with mysterious personal characteristics! Put the whole family together in a wickedly awesome house and you’ve got one of the coolest families on the block.
5. Jeepers Creepers
I’m just as surprised as you are that Jeepers Creepers is on my list since I don’t like scary movies. But whenever it is on TV I can’t help but watch it. It’s a rather simple story, but jeez that monster really freaks me out. It’s one of the few horror movies that I actually like the ending of, too. And the song is just so catchy and fun to sing! “Jeepers creepers, where’d you get those peepers?”
Honorable mention:
Hocus Pocus, Underworld, Sleepy Hollow
You can’t have a Halloween list without Hocus Pocus! It’s a must-watch movie for the holiday. And Underworld is my favorite vampire movie. I would love to cosplay as Selene someday. Also, when I saw Sleepy Hollow in the theaters I couldn’t get over how beautiful it was. Christopher Walken also spooked me quite a bit.

So let me know in the comments what some of your favorite Halloween movies are!

Tutorial: Furry Ears

After watching the incredible Commander Holly make a Rocket Raccoon cosplay for SDCC, I was inspired to make some raccoon ears myself! I figured this would be fun to wear to the premiere of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I looked up pictures of raccoon ears for reference, but you could use this tutorial to make cat, bear, fox, or any furry ears!
What you’ll need:
A headband, wire, wire cutter, craft foam, fake fur, scissors, hot glue, Sharpies
1) Cut your wire to make two ear shapes on your headband. Then sandwich some craft foam around the wire to hide it.
2) Cut your fake fur a little bigger than the foam ears and sandwich them the same way.
3) Glue it all the way around with hot glue.
4) Gently color your fur with your choice of Sharpie. I started with black in the middle, silver around that, and then left the edges white. I would have liked to have added brown, but I didn’t have a brown Sharpie with me. 🙂

Keep adding color to it until it suits your fancy! I also colored the back of my ears to look striped like a raccoon. And since there is wire in the ears you can bend them! I cupped mine a little and folded one ear down more than the other.
Now you’re ready to guard the galaxy as one of the most fierce raccoons ever!
:+:+:+:+:
These ears were so easy to make! I would love to make more in different colors. Let me know if you use this tutorial!
What animal ears would you like to wear?
Will you be seeing Guardians of the Galaxy?

Divergent Dallas Red Carpet + Giveaway!

I recently reviewed the first Divergent book and read the next two in the series within days. I became an instant fan so when I found out there would be a Red Carpet event from the official Divergent Facebook page I immediately sent in an email to see if I could get a press pass. The event featured Miles Teller and Jai Courtney who play Peter and Eric in the movie. Fans had the chance to get their autograph and then see a pre-screening of the film!

Movie Review – Thor: The Dark World

Theatrical release poster; Walt Disney Studios
As you can tell from my previous post, I was pretty excited to go watch the second installment of Thor in theaters. I had made a winged headband to wear as I cheered on Thor and Loki in their adventures! I will keep this short and sweet and spoiler free!
I actually had not seen the first Thor movie until a few days ago. Luckily, my nearby Redbox had it to rent. So I made some popcorn and checked it out. I knew I was an instant fan of Thor after watching The Avengers. He and Captain America were my favorites due to their stunning good looks and gentlemanlike qualities. (Hey, they’re my type ok!) But truthfully, Thor appears to me as a true hero. He’s big, buff, kind, and genuinely looking out for the good of his people. And his role in Thor: The Dark World confirmed all of that for me.
Marvel.com
First, the movie has an overall comedic feel. Which I loved! I laughed out loud at so many different parts. And I never felt like the lines came off as cheesy. Many of the funniest moments weren’t even spoken lines (like where Thor puts his hammer at the apartment) .. That was hilarious! I’m glad they included cameos of other characters, too. That was a nice touch to get a laugh out and also a glimpse at some of our other favorite super heroes.
Marvel.com
Second, the movie had a great message. I feel like Thor and Loki’s relationship has excellent balance. This makes the movie more of a family film. It shows that a family may be complicated, but love doesn’t disappear, no matter how evil you might be. I especially enjoyed Rene Russo’s performance as Frigga. Her scenes were so moving and heartfelt that even Loki feels it. And I liked that I understood what I just watched. I didn’t leave the theater wondering why someone did something or what was that meant for. It was an enjoyable story to follow.
Marvel.com
Finally, the action was just right. I’m comparing this to how I felt after Man of Steel. Superman straight up destroyed everything. And I had a hard time enjoying the mass chaos. I’m all for some good fight scenes, but too much and I’m a little turned off. The scenes in Asgard had a magical feel to them with the use of a more medieval touch. I enjoyed seeing the close up punches rather than who can throw the other into the farthest building.
So to conclude, I would probably say the two Thor movies combined have made it one of my favorite super hero story lines. The actors and actresses meshed well, the special effects brought another world to life, and the subtle love story resonated with me. I’d say this movie has something for just about everyone!

Tutorial: Thor Inspired Wing Headband

Art by Oliver Coipel
A few days ago, I decided to rent the first Thor movie since Thor: The Dark World comes out this weekend! I have totally fallen in love with Chris Hemsworth. But also Natalie Portman! She’s so cute in the movie. I am excited to watch the second movie tomorrow so tonight I was googling Thor crafts and came across this awesome headband tutorial by Doodle Craft. I decided right away I had to make it!
I made my wings smaller than Doodle Craft’s tutorial so they could be worn more often. But it would be fun to remake this in different wing shapes and sizes.
I printed out a wing shape that I liked and traced it onto some sheet foam.

Normally I would gesso the sheet foam so it would become thicker and more sturdy, but tonight I wanted this done quick so I just decided to spray paint the wings silver.

Then I outlined the wings with gold paint and used hair spray to add some glitter.

Because I am a glitzy Thor girl!
Attach your wings with hot glue to a skinny headband and you’re done!

Pixie insisted on a hug during my photo shoot.

Aww kitty!

This was a super quick and cheap DIY project!

PAX South 2015

Since my first visit to PAX Prime several years ago, I have been anxiously awaiting my next chance to attend another PAX convention. When they announced a new location to their schedule here in my home state of Texas I couldn’t contain my excitement! I bought tickets as soon as they became available and counted down the days until the con.
It’s now been a few weeks since my visit to PAX South in San Antonio, but looking through my photos have brought back all the wonderful memories. I went to Prime by myself so I was really happy to go to South with my family. We are all first and foremost gamers. My mom and brother especially! So it was super special to be able and share this convention with them and nerd out over all the games and merchandise.
After the 5 hour trip from Dallas to San Antonio, we checked in to our hotel and walked next door to the convention center. To me that is one of the best things about PAX conventions is how they place the events in large centers around great hotels and fantastic night life. We headed straight in and to the Nintendo booth to try and grab a paper Majora’s mask souvenir. It was already gone for the day, but we did manage to get one the next morning!
Another great thing about PAX is the chance to try out new and upcoming games. My mom and I played the demo for Dungeon Defenders II and loved it! It was really colorful and interactive. I was so proud of my mom for trying out a PC game. She’s usually into console gaming. We were on easy mode but still enjoyed the gameplay and features. Plus we got a code for an early release and also a limited edition pin.
That evening we explored the rest of the convention center and checked out the Magic: The Gathering tournaments as well as some panels. I was excited to see my friend Mia Moore at the Women in Geek Media Panel!
The next morning I woke up really really early to get in line for the Guild Wars 2 panel. They weren’t letting people in the doors until 8am so my dad and I got there around 7:15am. There was already a line outside the building but once we got inside most everyone went a different direction than the main theater where the panel was to be held. So me and my dad and the two guys in front of us went straight to that queue and began our 2 hour wait until the panel started. Lucky for us we were awarded a Corsair Gaming Mouse for being one of the first 5 people there. I also got to meet two of Arena Net’s marketing team members and also cosplayer Sarah Cain who was dressed as a Guild Wars 2 character. The best part was seeing my face on the live Twitch stream. I was seated close to the front and in the center and my white hoodie and pink hair showed up nicely in the sea of black shirts. (See top right photo; I’m above his shoulder.) You can watch the stream here.
We spent the rest of the day collecting street passes on our Nintendo 3DS and then exploring some of San Antonio. My family and I ate at a great Mexican restaurant on the River Walk. Even though it was chilly it was just nice enough to be able to eat outside. Then we walked along the rest of the River Walk and found the The Alamo. I visited this once when I was very little but sadly don’t remember it. (How dare I not remember The Alamo!!) So I was very very excited to make up for it and take in all the history of this monument.
One of the best things about a PAX convention is all the free swag! I came home with SO many goodies! I bought a few of the collectable pins and adorable books they had and also a sticker sheet and patch. But literally everything else was free! I got Magic: The Gathering cards, the Majora’s Mask, lanyards, several coupon codes for online stores, and best of all a Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns shirt and pin!
:+:+:+:+:
This was a very memorable trip and one I am happy to have spent with my family. I am looking forward to PAX South growing and becoming bigger and better next year.

Dallas Fan Days 2014

This past weekend was the October edition of Dallas Comic Con! It was originally called "Fan Days" but I just learned that they will be renaming their 3 conventions. (If you're curious – February's will be Fan Days, May's will be Dallas Fan Expo, and October's will be Dallas Comic Con) But anyway I will probably still refer to this one as Fan Days for now 😀
They had announced early on that Elijah Wood and the Phelps twins from Harry Potter would be attending! I immediately bought a premium badge because I knew I would want to meet them. They also announced Alex Kingston (Doctor Who), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Burt Ward and Adam West (Batman and Robin) but they all sadly had to cancel. There were still several other great guests from Indian Jones and The Goonies as well as some big named comic book artists. I am totally blaming the Ebola scare that happened in Dallas this month for the cancellations. Thankfully I think it's all under control now!

Anime Fest 2014

This was my second year to attend Anime Fest. The first time was in 2012 (you can view the posts here and here.) This is a very fun convention because it's similar to AKon but just a little smaller in size. I can tell it's still grown since my first visit, though. The hotel it is at is one of my favorites in Dallas – the Sheraton. I love the layout and location. Anime Fest had many guests in attendance including the band FLOW as well as several voice actors and game developers. The other best part of this con are the fan-run panels. I was happy to provide some prizes for the Disney Panel which is always a very popular one to attend!

The Vampire Diaries: Dallas Convention 2014

Last year I had attended Creation Entertainment’s Vampire Diaries Convention and had one of the best times! (You can read about it here.) These cons are a little pricey but smaller in size and run incredibly professionally. It’s a lot more intimate setting and a better chance to see/hear/meet the guests. However, Paul Wesley canceled last year, and I was super bummed because I had already met Ian Somerhalder before. So I decided to go again to try and get Stefan’s autograph added to my poster!
I wore the shirt I bought at last year’s con along with my Salvortore ring.
The convention was held at a nice hotel and had these cute standees in the dealer’s room. Since I didn’t pay for a photo op with the fellas I decided this selfie was good enough.
There was some great Vampire Diaries merch for sale including t shirts, mugs, stickers, jewelry and hats. I didn’t buy anything this time since I already have 2 shirts and a hoodie … and tons of jewelry :p
I found my seat in the panel room to watch the trivia contest and auction then saw my face on the screen!!! If you used the hashtag TVDDallas on Instagram they were posting the pics of fans on the screens! How cool is that!
The guest list was great but most were only coming on specific days. Since I was only attending on Saturday I got to see Stefan and Damon and Haley (Phoebe Tonkin). Haley was a werewolf on VD and also on The Originals. I was bummed that I couldn’t meet Michael Trevino (who played Tyler Lockwood) because he was only attending Sunday. Oh well.
And here is Stefan and Damon!! I was so excited to finally see Paul Wesley! He was hilarious!! His character on VD is so serious all the time that it was a nice treat to see him more relaxed and make jokes. Ian Somerhalder was his usual “I’m so hot” self that he was kinda annoying to be honest. But the two together were great because they called each other “brother” and really seemed like good friends.
I couldn’t take any pictures while getting Paul Wesley’s autograph, but he was super super super super cute. Oh my god. He was so handsome!! When it was almost my turn I asked the lady in front of me if I looked okay then tried to remember to breath normally. I got to the table and he started signing my poster and I said how it was so nice to finally meet him since I missed him last year. He shook my hand and said thank you then I told him good luck at the Teen Choice Awards (which were the next day). Then I asked if I could shake it his hand one more time and he laughed and said sure. 😀 😀 😀
The Vampire Diaries will always be one of the favorite TV shows, and I think it’s the neatest thing that I’ve had the opportunity to meet several of the cast members. I only need Tyler, Alaric, Jenna, and Elena’s autograph to have my poster finished.

North Texas Comic Book Show: July 2014

When I was asked to attend the North Texas Comic Book Show as a cosplay guest, I couldn’t have been more excited! I attended this event in January (you can read about it here) and loved the smaller size and feel. They have two large rooms full of comic artists, vintage toy sellers and other cosplayers.
When I arrived I saw my face on this giant poster and said WOW out loud 😛 This is also the convention I debuted my Steampunk Princess Leia cosplay. I couldn’t have done this costume without the amazing corset from Corset Story. You can read my tutorial for this costume here.

I brought along several prints and accessories to sell. A few of these are still available in my Etsy store.
I was happy to see quite a few of my friends in attendance. Here’s my good friend and fellow blogger My Geeky Geeky Ways!
Photo by My Geeky Geeky Ways
I even hosted a panel! I’ve been a panel guest one other time (at Animation Celebration) but I was joined then by 4 other girls. So I was really nervous to talk by myself this time. The topic was about basic cosplay construction. I made note cards and listed out the steps I go through to determine how to pick a character, what materials I’ll need and work well, and the best places I’ve learned to find them. The crowd was small but still had at least 20 people there! I loved that I knew most everyone and they all joined in the discussion. 🙂

I held a drawing to win a giant Spider-Man 2 poster and my friend Mindy of The Geeky Seamstress won it!

I also had some Punisher posters and my friends Jesse and Ricardo won them! Jesse’s PikaPool was great!

Courtney wore her Azula cosplay and brought along her fireball. I was excited to see this in person since I missed her at Comic Con!

I helped out as a judge for the cosplay contest, too! This was so much fun and, all the contestants did a great job!

The next North Texas Comic Book Show is in November.
Be sure to check it out because it’s awesome!!

ScrewAttack Gaming Convention 2014

This year the ScrewAttack Gaming Convention was held at my favorite downtown hotel – The Sheraton Dallas. This is a smaller gaming convention that still packs a lot of punch. It’s guest list included Smooth McGroove, The Angry Video Game Nerd, the creator of Nyan Cat – Chris Torres, and the co-creator of Mega Man – Keiji Inafune.

I wore my Annie cosplay from League of Legends. After picking up my badge I immediately ran into another Annie, too! (You can read my tutorial for this cosplay here.)

There was also a lot of fun things for sale like shirts and apparel, Nintendo plushies, and vintage games.

In the open area you could play arcade games for free.

My favorite part is the console room where you can play against your friends and watch tournaments.

I loved this Sylveon cosplay!

Don’t mess with the Khaleesi.
These two girls were from Gears of War and looked amazing!

This was my second year to attend SGC. You can read about last year here. It was fun wearing my Annie cosplay again and seeing the convention grow. Gaming conventions are fun because I pick up so many Street Passes on my Nintendo 3DS! 😀

Dallas Comic Con 2014

My favorite convention of the year is the Dallas Comic Con. It's one of the largest in Texas, and I always look forward to seeing my friends here. The convention was held at a larger venue for the first time, too. This had its pros and cons. It was nice not having to wait in line outside in the heat. It also meant the lines inside were managed better since it was mostly all on one floor. At the old convention center, people were getting stuck on the *single* escalator and missing panels because they couldn't get upstairs!

Animation Celebration 2014

Animation Celebration was a 3 day convention in Lewisville, Tx where I was invited to be a guest! I made several wizard wands, starfish necklaces and ordered extra prints to sell at my table. Last year it was called Brony Fest, but this time they expanded their genre a bit to include some great names like Kevin Conroy (the voice of Batman), Steve Cardenas (the Red Power Ranger), and cosplay guests Nicole Marie Jean and Destiny Nickelson.

G33K3: The Con

G33K3 (pronounced “geeky”) was a new convention in McKinney, Tx. It was quite a bit smaller than others, but that’s great because it was only $10 to get in! Although it was a 3 day convention, I only went on Saturday. I still had a really fun time!
I decided not to wear a costume, but that gave me the chance to wear some fun clothes for a change.
Batman shirt – ThinkGeek
Batman leggings – Hot Topic
Black skater skirt – Wet Seal
Pink checkered shoes – Vans
Legend of Zelda earrings – Ragin’ Gauges
When I walked in I was shocked by how many vendors were there!
The selection of items was incredible.

I was excited to see my friend Long Le with a table full of his handmade D20s!

Another booth had these amazing trinkets for sale.

My friend Geline hosted an armor making panel, too. It was SO informative! I learned a lot about Worbla and craft foam.

Several people were in cosplay, including my friend Enasni Volz. She also had handmade charms for sale at her table.

Fangirls: Dames of the Round Table is an all female video cast you can watch on Sundays on Deep Ellum Air. I enjoyed seeing Taylor and Natalie at their table!
This photo was taken by Cosplay With Me of Morgan as Rapunzel and Krystle Starr as the Pink Panther! I wanted to share how cute their costumes were!
:+:+:+:
I hope this convention happens again next year because it was very well run. If they would advertise a little bit more then I imagine more and more people will come out!
Do you prefer bigger or smaller conventions?

Hey everyone! Sorry it’s taken me so long to update! I had a BUSY couple of days lately! This past weekend was Animation Celebration, and I worked all week on some new cosplays. I plan to type up full tutorials, con reviews, and other posts soon. I just need to organize all my photos! The month of March had a convention nearly every weekend! So I am a little backed up. 1. Thank you! I am actually wearing two wigs. The long one underneath is from an Etsy seller. It was WAY too flat on top tho 🙁 So I ordered a Ferrari from Arda to wear on top for added volume. I will make a tutorial post soon!

OMGLITZY: My Top 5 Fictional Valentines

My Top 5 Fictional Valentines

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and as a single gal I couldn’t help but daydream about who my favorite fictional Valentine would be! It’s no surprise that most of these are characters in shows I’m currently hooked on!
Barry Allen aka The Flash

In the show Barry has taken a few lucky girls on some interesting dates from bowling, to coffee, to lavish dinners. I imagine Barry would be fun to spend an evening with just chatting and laughing. He’s laid back and smart and let’s not forget a super hero! 😛

Jace Wayland

I’m going to save my opinion of the new Shadowhunters show for another post. (It’s not the best.) So let’s focus on Jace the character! Sure he may be a little self-absorbed at times but you can guarantee your date with him wouldn’t be boring. I actually like how in the show he is portrayed as very caring and protective. And he’s not bad to look at either! 😉

Poe Dameron

After I saw The Force Awakens I had trouble choosing a favorite character because they were all fantastic. Poe stood out to me the most, however, with his charm, strength and overall positive attitude. I’d love to go on a date with him because I am sure he’d be a gentleman with lots of cool stories!

James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser

If Jamie Fraser from Outlander is NOT on your fictional Valentine list then you are missing out! He has got to be one of the most romantic and thoughtful characters I’ve experienced in a book and show. He would quite literally risk his life for you so just imagine how great of a Valentine he’d be!

Augustus Waters

He may not have super human strength or be able to fly an X-wing, but Augustus from The Fault in Our Stars has a magic all his own. From his witty comebacks to his deep thinking, he would grant you meaningful and memorable moments. Not only that, but he’d be patient, kindhearted, and thankful for any time spent with you. He’d be a perfect Valentine. <3

I’d love to hear who your top 5 are so be sure to leave a comment!
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

Xoxo,
Glitzy

  1. Oh man. I was not expecting to love him so much, but my heart belongs to Poe Dameron. Dat swag. Dat hair. Swoon.

Other fandom Valentines would include Elijah Mikealson (don't judge), The Doctor, Garrus Vakarian & Castiel.

Pastel Rainbow Hair

I bleached out the purple blue color I had going on and it turned pink! Don’t ask me how. So I rocked that for a few days and got bored quickly.. so I added some teal and purple chunks to it. I’m thinking about changing it up again because I don’t think many people like this 😛 Oh well it’s fun and I feel like a unicorn or mermaid! Hehe!
