Sci Fi Expo 2013

Let me start off by saying that Sci Fi Expo 2013 has been my favorite convention so far! I had an absolute blast!

One reason this convention was so awesome was because of the media guests. My mom was super stoked to meet all the Battlestar Galactica folks. I was equally excited for Edward James Olmos because of his role in the movie Stand and Deliver. I also loved him in Selena. So we got all the BSG autographs, Christopher Lloyd’s from Back to the Future, and I got a photo and autograph with Billy Boyd. The Q&A panels we attended were Kevin Sorbo, Battlestar Galactica, Back to the Future, and The Walking Dead. I just love listening to their stories from set and how they got into acting. It’s great that the audience members can ask questions, however, I wish people would come up with better questions sometimes haha …

I decided to dress up as Asajj Ventress shortly after Fan Days last October and got some of it done by December. I had some trouble attaching my custom made light saber hilts so I ended up buying Darth Maul’s light saber and add some PVC pipe and electrical tape to make it curve. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue to be her but after I got it all completed and did the make up I was really pleased with how it turned out. Originally I was going to be her both days, but when they announced that Billy Boyd from the Lord of the Rings would be there I immediately began working on an Arwen costume. That outfit is definitely the comfiest costume ever and probably my favorite look! The long hair, flowy dress, and handmade crown gave it a whimsical feeling. I’ll probably make another post that shows my progress on the crown. It took a couple of days to finish since I was literally just winging it. Pun intended! (it’s a butterfly crown, lol)

Now that I’ve been to quite a few conventions I’ve started making more and more friends. It’s so much fun meeting up with everyone to take photos and ask how you made certain pieces of your costume. Turns out I even liked the new red carpet they added to the event. When I first saw it on Friday when we picked up our wristbands I was like “ummm seriously this is it?” but after seeing it in action I think it’s a great way for people to snap a photo and not feel like they’re holding up a line or blocking an entrance. I still stopped for photos throughout the whole building, but the red carpet was a cool meeting area for all the cosplayers to get together.

After getting home and taking off all the makeup and putting comfy clothes on, I started searching for everyone’s photos. I found quite a few of me dressed as both characters! Saw a lot of Arwen I think because there weren’t as many people dressed up on Sunday. The highlight for me was being interviewed for the CBS Dallas News. I was also picked for the Jack FM Slideshow, Dallas Observer Slideshow Part One and Part Two (twice) and made it on the Top 15 Best Costumes list! I didn’t win the costume contest, but my good friends got best in show for their Jurassic Park creation!

Here are some shots of my costumes:

I will post a few of my pics after the cut below, but since there were so many (over 200!) I decided to upload them onto my Flickr account. So be sure and them out and let me know who’s costume you liked the most!

Click below for more!!!!!

Here are some of the cards I was given or picked up. The bottom left is my VIP Jump Card to get to the front of the autograph lines, and the bottom right is my blog card I made to give out!
Billy Boyd – “Pippin” – signed my photo! He asked me about the tattoo on my chest .. Guess I didn’t cover it up well enough lol 😛
Great Scott! Christopher Lloyd’s autograph!
This was the swag I picked up from the con. I also got a TON of posters from BigFanBoy‘s freebie room that you can see here.

FBI badges of Sam and Dean from Supernatural. I am going to a Supernatural convention later this year and might dress up as an FBI agent so I figured these would be cool to have 🙂

This guy caught my eye at one of the tables in the dealers room. He was only $6 and sparkles!

Huge special thanks to Payton for this amazing fairy from the Legend of Zelda. We both have dressed up as Princess Zelda before so we share a major love for the game. I was overjoyed when she gave me this and can’t wait to display it next to my Skyward Sword harp!
You can view all my pics on my Flickr!
Which costume was your favorite?
Who do you think they will announce for Comic Con in May?
Any suggestions on what I should dress up as?

Staying Positive

So what’s up! What’s been going on! Well I’ve been trying out some new things recently that haven’t gone exactly as planned. So let’s chat about it!

First up, I applied for a Twitch Partnership. This means I could have a “subscribe” button on my page and make a little bit of money while also being able to give more back to my viewers! This is the second time I applied and once again I was declined. Twitch didn’t tell me exactly what I need to work on, but they did say to apply again in about 2-4 weeks if I feel passionate about it. So I decided instead of accepting this as a defeat (which I admit I kind of did the first time) that I will keep my momentum going and push even harder and try to apply again. I mentioned this on stream a few days ago. Everyone was very supportive and kind!! I think if we can just keep doing what we’re doing maybe the stars will align.
Another thing I applied for was an ArenaNet Partnership. They offer a sponsorship program now for creators and since that’s basically the only game I live and breathe for I figured it’d be a perfect fit for me. Well unfortunately they never replied or accepted me. I applied for this several weeks ago and still haven’t heard back. I suppose I will try again because I feel like I’d be a great match for them. It’s just hard when no one tells you what you are doing wrong! I see others that are about the same size/level as my site and channel with sponsorships. Maybe I’m just not active enough? Well I also won’t let this bring me down. I gotta use the passion I have to propel forward and apply again!
Finally, I applied for a job in real life that’s totally different from what I’m used to. It’s a position I know I would excel at and in a field I’d love to grow in. I won’t go into the details, but long story short all last year I applied for several different jobs (both in and out of the hair industry) and nothing seemed to click. So when this job popped up nearby I was very excited to apply! However, once again I haven’t received a reply. I believe in myself and that I’m totally qualified for all that I’m seeking. So I just need to learn how to be more patient. Things don’t happen overnight and doors don’t magically open for you. Sometimes you gotta prove to the world what you are capable of.
Last year, I let little things bring me down pretty quickly. There were other battles I haven’t mentioned, too. I’m trying my best to keep a positive outlook and change the direction of my feelings after facing a setback. It’s a little unlike me to post or talk about these kind of things because I do try very hard to have a good attitude on social media. my blog, and now my stream. But you know what? Shit happens sometimes! Thank you Forest Gump for teaching me that. It’s how you react to it that defines you. So I’m staying upbeat and looking forward to whatever comes my way.
Xoxo,
Glitzy

  1. Yes stay positive! As a contract artist I live the constant ups and downs of work. Sometimes I have tons of emails out with contact and sometimes I hear something and then other times I hear nothing. Then I have no work and then I have more than I can handle. In the end it is a matter of patience and staying on top of it all much like you are saying. Having been in the game industry for many years I can say that if you are reaching out to any studio or company involved with gaming it can often come in waves so sometimes they respond quickly and other times they are very busy and don't have time. Right now everyone is getting ready for GDC and the trade show season will eats a lot of time. Stay positive and I'm sure something will come along!

  2. Hard to say what to do without being in your shoes. There's lots of opportunity though I see from this side of the spectrum. Apply apply apply, It kills me whenever I can't seem to find work. I will apply at 20 different places and no luck. Yet I have to say I found a job and been working here so far for 4 weeks and loving it. It took 3 months to find what I was looking for and just being positive. My boss said.. Out of the 54 people he interviewed. He hired people with positive outlook. An that made me quite happy to be the few that he did hire. Saying this from my experience I have also people tell me they applied at well over 30 to 40+ jobs and never hear back as they even have college degrees higher than mine. I think trying and making an effort to change your state of being is better than nothing and I think you should realize that potential in you to do something remarkable is still there. An with time and patience you will unlock that as well as find what your looking for. I know its rough and hang in there, it can't rain forever.. Even though Im a rainy kind of person myself 😉 Stay gold friend. I hope this helps calm your worrying mind.

  3. Right there with you. Seeing such great opportunities come up and things not click the way you want makes it hard to keep pressing forward with the things you enjoy doing. Never quit on yourself. Always remember the things you are passionate about and keep working towards that goal. Like you said, its all about patience. Things eventually work themselves out if you stay positive, and remember the struggle because when things do click, it will all feel that much more with the wait.

  4. Wishing you the best of luck!!
You seem to be a pretty consistent streamer so I'm surprised about Twitch, I hope you get approved next time as I can bet you'd have some adorable emotes!!

Tutorial: Adventure Time Fionna Cosplay

If you’re a fan of Adventure Time then I am sure you’ve thought about wielding your own crystal sword and bunny hat! So this tutorial is for you 🙂

I found all of my supplies at Walmart. The hat, however, was purchased at Hot Topic. It looks like Fionna’s is sold out online but they still have Finn’s for sale. There’s also a lot of great hats for sale on Etsy!

I bought an XL shirt and took it in on the sides. This way it would still be extra long. I am holding it with my hand here. I also shortened the sleeves. The skirt is actually a dark blue tank top. I cut it in half and hemmed it to make it into a skirt.

This sword was in the toy section at Walmart. It’s made of foam. I cut the top and added some extra styrofoam to rebuild the point. I used some styrofoam to make the little square gem at the bottom, too. Then I wrapped it in masking tape and spray painted it. The tip looked kinda wonky, though, so I decided to re-cut it.
I shortened the point to give it a little better shape. Then I just re-taped it and spray painted it again.

The backpack took a little more effort. I didn’t use a pattern at all. I completely made this up as I went.
So first I used a bowl to get a basic shape.

I cut out four half circles – 2 of each color.

Then I laid them on top of each other and stitched the edges together. But make sure to leave the straight part (where I am pointing) open!

For each strap you need one rectangle of each color.

I stitched one color at a time then combined them.

Then I used stuffing to make the straps look thicker.

Be sure you add a button to the outside!

I did a terrible job attaching my straps to the backpack so don’t zoom in, but you get the idea here!

Finally bend your backpack around so you can sew it together. I put more stuffing into mine since this isn’t a real backpack.

Tada!

And the back!
I originally made some socks using little girls stockings and paint, but they were awful. So I found these at American Apparel. They come with three blue lines so I just folded the top down to hide the top line. And since my shoes didn’t have a black strap across them I slipped a black rubber band on my foot!
My wig is from Arda Wigs. It is a Luthien in Titanium Blonde. I bought this to use for a different costume, but it worked well for this, too.
This print is for sale in my Etsy shop!

Edited this blog post to add this pic of Pixie as Cake! Since people always ask me “Where’s Cake?” Lol

This is my friend Krystle Starr as Princess Bubblegum! We filmed a fun video together you can see here.

Which character is your favorite from Adventure Time?
Let me know if you wear this cosplay!

Tutorial: The Quibbler DIY

So this is probably the easiest tutorial ever! But I seriously had so much fun making it! In two weeks I will be cosplaying as Luna Lovegood at Dallas Fan Days… So I made the tabloid from the wizarding world called The Quibbler!
Supplies needed:
Image of a cover of The Quibbler
An old magazine
Scissors
Glue stick
I found my covers of The Quibbler on Google’s image search. There were a few different ones to pick, but I liked the one with the Spectrespecs since I have a pair! I used Photoshop to resize the covers to match the size of my magazine. Then printed them out and cut the white off the sides. Any old magazine will do. I picked one of my dad’s sports issues because I liked the size of it. (Which was 8 inches by 10.5 inches)
Be sure to put plenty of glue around the edges and corners of the magazine. Then lay your image on top and smooth out any wrinkles.
Luna reads an article about ancient Runes which required turning it upside down! Also, I ordered my Spectrespecs from the official WBShop.
:+:+:+:+:
So there ya go! The easiest Harry Potter craft ever! If you really want to .. you could print off cool pages to glue inside, too! I can’t wait to show you my finished Luna Lovegood costume. And I REALLY can’t wait to meet Tom Felton at Dallas Fan Days!!!!! 🙂

What’s In My Bag

This is the first time for me to play this game.. And I am so excited because I just LOVE my new backpack! Since I started working on my own, I find myself carrying a lot of stuff.. I still write my appointments for my clients by hand because I don’t trust my iPhone and iCloud to back it all up in case it crashes. So now I carry around quite a bit of goodies!
This is my beautiful Vera Bradley backpack.

From left to right:
Business cards, business card holder, iPhone charger, iPhone
Appointment book, iPad, wallet, pencil bag which holds the next items: Bonne Belle lip gloss, MAC powder, white out, pens, mini hair brush, and floss!

And I got new boots from Shi the other day, too 😀

  1. Just checking blogs. Great idea to use a backpack. You must be a very organized person.

Jingles

A month or so ago I adopted this playful kitty named Jingles from the Frisco Humane Society. I was feeling bad that I left Pixie home alone all day without a friend and was hoping she could become buds with Jingles. Unfortunately that just wasn’t the case. Jingles was so energetic and wanted to play with Pixie all the time and Pixie just wasn’t having it. She definitely likes her personal space and now that I have returned Jingles back to his foster mom Pixie is once again sweet and loving. Jingles has since been adopted to another happy home, and I’m glad he doesn’t have to put up with Pixie’s hissing and growling. He was a sweet, soft kitty and I miss him very much but I know it all worked out for the best! 🙂

Pastel Rainbow Hair

I bleached out the purple blue color I had going on and it turned pink! Don’t ask me how. So I rocked that for a few days and got bored quickly.. so I added some teal and purple chunks to it. I’m thinking about changing it up again because I don’t think many people like this 😛 Oh well it’s fun and I feel like a unicorn or mermaid! Hehe!

Happy Things #6

Here’s another batch of some wonderful things making me happy recently 🙂
I got to see a Euro for the first time! My friend had kept one from his trip to Barcelona.
This is a screen shot of my character from Everquest II. She rides an awesome pegasus when she’s not on her pink unicorn, lol.

These are some cool figures I helped paint for a game called Super Dungeon Explore.

Redecorated my apartment a little to feel extra magical.

Dad sent me this pic of a little Stitch that was lost back home! He found him under my bed.

And this surprise rose made me extra happy! 🙂

Snow White and the Huntsman

I was able to check out the movie Snow White and the Huntsman in theaters and really enjoyed it! I’m so glad I saw it on the big screen .. it was a classic fairy tale cranked up a few notches. Although it was long I never felt like it was dragging. The pace was set well, and the plot was intriguing. Kristen Stewart isn’t exactly the best actress, but I did like her in this movie. And who can complain about the dreamy Chris Hemsworth? Watching this movie made me truly wish ethereal lands existed. I so badly wanted to jump into the screen and walk through the forest with the characters. Charlize Theron as the evil queen was definitely bad to bone, and her scenes were eerie and captivating. I do wish the very last scene had a little more epicness to it .. But overall I liked it! 🙂

Favorite quote: “You be a queen in heaven now and sit among the angels.” -The Huntsman

And I love the Florence + The Machine song from the soundtrack:

Coldplay

Sorry for the lack of updates lately! I’ve been kind of busy! For example, a few Saturdays ago I got to see Coldplay live! They were truly an amazing performance. From the lasers to the confetti to the light-up wristbands.. the whole show was spectacular! It’s probably in my top 5 favorite concerts now.. Ooooo that’d make for a good post in the future 😉 My two favorite songs were “Yellow” and “Lost” and they played them both! Here are some of the photos I took (click to see them bigger):

PAX Prime 2013

To say I had a blast at PAX Prime would be an understatement! I seriously had an amazing time!! This was by far the largest convention I've ever attended. I was lucky to win a badge from Grimm Bros and find a hotel near the convention center last minute. So I felt like a VIP 🙂 It was great walking around downtown Seattle with fellow nerds everywhere you looked. I could definitely see myself living here someday.
Overall, this trip is one for the record books. I went by myself but met up with friends I've met via social media. I got to see so many cool video games and cosplays, and parts of Seattle. I never thought I would get such an amazing opportunity. Once I got home, I was exhausted but also so thankful for everything I had just experienced! So if you ever get the chance to attend a PAX convention DO ITTTTT!
I posted all of my photos on my Facebook so please look through that album because there's a lot in there that I just didn't have room to put in this post.
More photos after the break!!!! >>>

I’m Addicted to Animal Crossing: New Leaf!

I have been playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf since the day after it was released and have been addicted to it this whole time! That’s like … months .. MONTHS! It’s as bad as those Tamagotchi’s when I was a kid.. You gotta check it every day and take care of it and things happen each day or you’ll miss it.. It’s just so much fun 😀 Well I wanted to share a post about some of my favorite pieces of art and crafts I’ve found online!
First off, this is the signature that I made for my account on The Bell Tree Forums. It’s such a handy website to use to ask questions, get tips and advice, sell/buy/trade items, and toss decorating ideas around. I am a new member, but I wish I had joined sooner! It’s been so helpful.
My signature shows my current villagers as well as my “dreamies.” A dreamie is a villager you wish you had! In the game your citizens might decide they want to move out (you can ask your favorites to stay) and then you’ll get a new one to move in. Sometimes you can go to someone else’s town and ask a villager that’s ready to move to come to yours. But people charge a lot to trade the popular villagers. The most popular is probably Julian the Unicorn  .. I have him on my dreamie list, too!
This is my Town Hall and the custom flag I doodled myself! I meant to make a better flag, but this is just so silly/cute I can’t seem to want to change it now!
Here I am standing next to Blanche who is an ostrich! She was asleep on a tree stump! lol
This is my favorite project that has been requested to be built so far. The windmill! I am hoping my villagers will request the “fairytale” items soon.
Art by KiruLEL
This is Isabelle the town secretary. Honestly, she does most of the work (even though I’m called the “Mayor”)  .. She is awesome and so sweet! I love how excited she gets for town events.
Art by Chrecand
Your character in the game isn’t an animal .. You’re actually human .. But you get to customize your looks! So this artwork shows someone’s view of their mayor. I tend to change my character’s hair color and style quite a bit, but so far the purple and blue has been my favorite. So I loved this art! And by using QR codes you can totally customize your clothes, too.
I had seen this art floating around Pinterest and Tumblr quite a bit and was happy to find the original artist. I want to get better at art so I can draw my own character one day.
Etsy store UnicornismMeetsACNL
I think this is such a cute idea!! In the game your villagers will sometimes give you a picture of themselves for your house. It’s kind of a big deal to get these. So it’d be really special to make a photo of you favorite villager and actually put it on your desk in real life!
Etsy store SoapyBacon
This is a pattern to crochet Stitches (one of my dreamies!) out of yarn. I know how to crochet but have never made anything besides a scarf, lol … So would be fun to try making this cutie!
Definitely adding this to my wishlist. Although I wish it were a necklace. Could always put the charms on a longer chain!
Etsy store ShelbyGoad
I don’t drink much coffee.. and if I do it’s usually an iced drink.. But I still ask for a holder when I go to Starbucks because then my hand doesn’t get cold holding the cup! So this koozie is cute because it features Brewster who runs the the cafe called The Roost.
:+:+:+:+:+:+:
I am so in love with this game! There is just SO much to do in it that I didn’t even begin to mention here! I am sure I will post more about it as the seasons change. Because they add new items and events as the year goes on. I also hope to one day make my own Animal Crossing crafts. Maybe I’ll host a giveaway, too, for other fans of the game!
Here is my Nintendo 3DS friend code if you would like to add me: 3840-6126-6273
Or you can visit my dream address: 5500-2197-6202

Do you play Animal Crossing: New Leaf?
Do you have a game that you have been hooked on?

Pastel Mermaid Hair

I am back from PAX Prime and can’t wait to share my adventure with you! But I took a bajillion photos and I’ve been so busy catching up at work that I just haven’t had time to sort through them. So eventually I will post my Vampire Diaries convention pics and my PAX Prime pics. But for now here is a fun little hair experiment I did yesterday!
I’ve been watching videos on YouTube about “mermaid hair” and how you can get it for yourself! Most of the videos featured pastel colors and big loose waves.
So I used my Ion Color Brilliance in purple, blue and pink. These are already pastel shades so you don’t have to mix them with conditioner to lighten the pigment. However, the blue was kinda bright so I did add a little conditioner for mine.
I just put random chunks in all throughout my hair.
This is what it looked like when I shampooed it out! Be sure to use cooler water so the color lasts longer.
I added some color on top of my bangs which were already a faded blue and pink. So that is why they look a little darker.
This was after I dried it really quick. You can see how subtle and pretty the colors look!
Next I used a curling iron to curl my hair. Even though this has a clamp on it – I used it as a wand. Meaning I just wrapped medium sized sections of my hair around the barrel for a few seconds then let it go.
I started at the bottom and worked my way to the top.
This was after I finished curling it all!
Then I brushed it out and hairsprayed it. I wanted it big and messy – like a mermaid!
I just need my hair to be a couple inches longer then I’ll really have mermaid hair 🙂
But I love the pastel tones my hair has now. And the good thing is, it will still look good even after it fades. I can’t wait to do my makeup and take some better pictures with my new hair color.

This past year was so busy and exciting for me that I've been a little nervous to try and squeeze it all in one blog post. I decided to use last year's 2013 In Review as a template and post a few of my favorite things I did.

What I Wore: The Flash

Right now The Flash on the CW is one of my favorite TV shows! It’s on break at the moment and is due to return on January 20, 2015. So to fill in the time I decided to wear a Flash inspired outfit!

My awesome shirt is from Think Geek. I’m wearing a size men’s medium. My favorite thing about this shirt are the cute stripes on the sleeves!
These super rad leggings are from a store called Love Culture at my local mall. POW! And my boots are by Blowfish.
I’m wearing a Tarina Tarantino necklace, and my newly dyed hair is a mix of Manic Panic’s Hot Hot Pink with a lot of conditioner (to make it pastel) and a chunk of ION’s Mint.
:+:+:+:+:
I had so much fun putting this outfit together!
Are you looking forward to The Flash’s return in January?

Holiday Wish List: Part 2

I had so much fun gathering items for my Holiday Wish List 2014 that I decided to add more to it! These are things that I probably won’t get my hands on for some time so I’m just posting and chatting about them. Santa has already sent an elf to visit and there’s some super cute presents under our tree. So this post is just an add on of fun things I’ve seen online lately!
Source
The fairies by Amy Brown have been one of my favorite watercolor styles for as long as I can remember. She has a lot of great things for sell in her Etsy shop including figurines, jewelry and blankets. Some of her prints are pretty affordable and they even come signed.

I began following Bad Witch Boutique on Instagram and after seeing their jewelry I became an instant fan. I tried to find a nice crystal necklace during my last few visits to the Renaissance festivals here. So far I haven’t found anything that was well-made or worth the price. The quality and style options of the jewelry from Bad Witch are amazing! I like the last two in the above photo the most, but they make rings, earrings and chokers, too.
If there is one thing I absolutely do not need it’s another headset. But this is called a “wish” list for a reason! I already have a working headset and it’s even the Razer Kraken! So why would I want another? Because they released it in FUSCHIA! They call it neon purple but it kinda looks pink to me (the last one in the pic). Either way it’s gorgeous! I’ve had my Kraken for several years now and love it. It’s super comfy and the sound quality is fantastic. I wear it all the time while I game or listen to music. The classic neon green is pretty cool, but you gotta admit the new colors are awesome!

Claire’s Wedding Ring
I began watching Outlander when it first premiered on Starz and quickly read the first book. The storyline was captivating, and I found myself rather fond of Jamie. I mean who isn’t?! Right?! So when Starz released an authentic replica of Claire’s wedding ring I was ready to purchase it right away. Well that came to a sudden halt after I saw it was $250! Omg! I mean that’s cool it’s designed by the original artist and all but SHEESH that’s expensive for something that’s actually kind of bland looking. Her ring described in the book sounds much more beautiful and a similar one can be purchased here. But since I’m anxiously waiting for the return of the TV series (April 2015 omg longest wait ever) I decided to buy this cheaper replica from eBay. This way I have something to wear while I watch, but I won’t feel bad should I lose it in a drawer one day. So that’s one wish on this list that Santa will be delivering. 🙂
Books!!
Since I brought up books, I figured I’d add some that are on my reading list. I heard they will begin filming a movie about the Fallen series by Lauren Kate this February so I’d like to read those before I see the film. I also think I’d enjoy Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. There are two more by Perkins so it’d be fun to get all three of her books. Santa usually gifts me an iTunes gift card so I’ll likely buy these for my iPad. I still need to finish The Maze Runner series first, though.
:+:+:+:+:
It’s so fun to shop online and there’s probably several items I’m forgetting to include. Maybe I’ll make a Part 3? Haha sorry Santa! It’s just for fun 🙂 You can read part one here.

Holiday Wish List 2014

These are a few of the spectacular things I have had my eye on this Holiday season!
The new PC I am using came with a great keyboard – but it doesn’t light up at all. I usually like to play in the dark so I’ve had a hard time seeing my keys. I figure go big or go home so I’m asking Santa for the Razer BlackWidow Chroma because it lights up like a RAINBOW! I tried out a Razer keyboard once before and didn’t much care for how loud the keys were – but this one comes in a Stealth edition meaning the keys are a little more quiet.

Minnie Mouse Hat from Disneyland Tokyo
I saw this pic on Kelly Eden’s Facebook page and totally loved the hat that her friend (on the right) was wearing. That is Zilla308 so I asked on her Instagram where she got it. She said it’s from the Disneyland in Tokyo and is available on eBay. After searching, I found the seller (click here) and saw it also comes in purple, pink, and blue! I was ready to order one but it’s kind of expensive. I can’t justify spending that much on a hat so maybe Santa will send an elf to Japan for me and bring one back for Christmas.
Source
Disneyland Paris Anna Pin
Another item that feels a bit out of reach is this Princess Anna pin. It is part of a booster set from the Disneyland in Paris. The set is super cute, but I wouldn’t mind just having Anna. I’m totally taking advantage of the Frozen trend and buying everything I can with my name on it. However, most pins from other countries go up in price quite a bit here in the US.
Source
Pandora Charms
My mom and I had seen these charms before and thought they were not only cute but also quite classy. There is a Pandora store in our local mall and Disney began releasing charms as well. So I looked in to starting a bracelet only to realize these little guys aren’t cheap. That’s good and bad because it means they are very nice but not for my pocketbook. But maybe receiving one charm for each holiday would be a fun start to a new bracelet collection!
One of the great things I love about playing Guild Wars 2 is that it is free-to-play. There is no monthly subscription at all. You pay for it once and you have it for life. The catch is they release limited items, boosters, weapon and armor skins, and cute mini pets in their Gem Store. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t see something in the store I want to buy. So spending real money on Gems is something I’ve had to slow down on, but a gem store card would make a great stocking stuffer! 😀

My Birthday 2014

Once upon a time, a little girl named Anna was born in a small Texas town. And she grew up to love all things glitzy and geeky! Most of all she loved her family.. and donuts!
This year I achieved level 29! For my special day, I went on an adventure full of exotic animals and delicious treats!

Halloween 2014

You might think that a cosplayer would go all out on Halloween with an elaborate costume. Well that is usually not the case. Haha! I would say most of my cosplay friends actually enjoy buying either a store bought costume or wearing something more simple. For me, I have been dying to wear this Korilakkuma Kigurumi I bought at AKon. I dressed it up with my pink wavy wig from Gothic Lolita Wigs!

Most of the day I played Guild Wars 2. If only all the people I grouped with that day knew what I was wearing behind the computer! lol
Even my character in game was dressed up for the Halloween festivities.

My family and I ordered pizza. Yum! My favorite!

Finally, that evening we were ready to hand out the candy bags my mom and I made. Each bag had several candy bars and crackers and other sweets in them.

I had a lot of fun giving out candy to the kiddos! One parent asked if I was a polar bear. But most of the kids said they liked my outfit. There was a block party going on down our street so once that ended all the kids came to the door at once. It kinda bummed me out because they were rushing and I was rushing and I didn’t get to see their costumes very well. I do remember three kids were dressed as crayons. I think they were my favorite!

Did you dress up as anything on Halloween?

Texas Renaissance Festival: All Hallows Eve

This year I attended the Texas Renaissance Festival for the second time! TRF is one of the largest festivals around with numerous vendors, performances, food and people to watch! I went on the weekend with the theme "All Hallows Eve" which was the right before Halloween. So many people came out in costumes of all kind. I decided to dress up as a fairy! I made the jacket and flower crown myself, and my tutu was purchased at a convention. I was most excited to show off my fabulous corset from Corset Story, too. The wig I wore was a Luthien in Warm Light Brown from Arda Wigs. I wore this for my Princess Anna cosplay and decided to leave in the blonde streak just for fun!

March Thoughts

Another month has passed already?! It sure seems like 2016 is zipping by! I would have loved to have filmed March vlog, but there just hasn’t been enough time in the day to do so. I hope you don’t mind another blog post then! :o)

March actually was a lot happier than February. I was recovering from a lot of defeats and have taken time to reflect on how to improve myself. I made a list of some memorable moments from March so let’s dive in!

Dyed hair – One of the most exciting changes this month was dying my hair back to pink. Last October I shaved my head and have been letting it grow without any bleach or dye. It was getting about an inch or so long and was just a boring dark brown color. Since I don’t really have a plan on what to do with it, I decided to dye it pink again! Even though I still wear wigs from time to time, I enjoy having my colorful ‘do back.

Gaming – Let’s start with EQ Next. This is a game that was announced back when I attended SOE Live several years ago. I’ve always been a big Ever Quest fan and was really excited for EQ Next. Well sadly, they announced that the game will no longer be happening. It broke my heart to read about it. I may need to revisit EQ2 soon. In happier news, I’ve been playing a lot of Dragon Mania Legends which is a mobile app game that is very easy and addicting. In March, they released a new “Clans” feature where you can group with friends to earn new rewards. It’s one of the only mobile games I’ve actually stuck with now for a nearly year! Finally let’s get into a recap of Guild Wars 2. This month I decided to make the legendary shield The Flameseeker Prophecies. I had almost all the materials for it and really liked the design so I just went for it. A few days later the devs announced that they were postponing the release of new legendary weapons indefinitely! What!! So that means all this time waiting for the new weapons that they promised with the expansion won’t be happening after all. I admit I was pretty bummed about this news. I would have made the sword Bolt instead of the shield, but I was waiting for the new sword to come out. I guess that won’t happen so now I will be making Bolt next. Some good things that happened in GW2 was the new raid wing, the return of the Bunny Ears and the big giveaway party I hosted on my stream. I gave away lots of prizes and had a fun time in Lions Arch with my friends and guildies. I’ll be hosting a giveaway on the last Friday of every month so if you missed it you can join us for the next one!

Moving – You can read the whole story on this blog post. But the TLDR version is I made a trip down to Houston to look for an apartment and find a new job. I found a very nice place that would be available mid April so I made the jump and signed a lease! I’m nervous and a little sad to be leaving Dallas, but this will be a good opportunity for me. It will be fun to explore a new place and also get back in to the beauty industry for my career. So I am looking forward to the move. It’s just been very hectic now trying to organize, clean, and pack my things in preparation.

Divergent – I saw Allegiant in theaters this month. Here’s my mini review of the new movie: I’ve been a big fan of the books and really loved the first movie. The second movie was okay but seemed too heavy on CGI. I was hoping the 3rd installment of the series would redeem itself but it left me going home really unhappy. It’s like they totally forgot about telling a good story and focused all of their money and energy on visual effects again. Also, Tris just seemed very unlike herself and lost all of her character development. Many of the scenes and lines came off cheesy and nearly made me laugh (and not in a good way.) The only thing I enjoyed about the movie was Four. The actor played his role well and the character made smart decisions and looked like a badass. I enjoyed his moments more than any others, but it still wasn’t enough to get me excited for the last movie due next year.

Easter – It was a little weird having Easter so early. Isn’t it usually in April? My family and I kept things pretty laid back and decided to order pizza for the weekend. I also got some cute cards in the mail and had a great day!

Store – While cleaning out my room and closet I found tons of nice purses, jewelry and decor that I just no longer use -or never used to begin with – and decided to open a Storenvy! I have had 2 sales so far and hope that my other items will find a new home soon. The money will help go towards my move, too! omglitzy.storenvy.com

Pixie update – This actually happened today rather than in March but since it’s fresh on my mind I wanted to fill you in! I took Pixie in for her 2 month check up on the state of her gums and teeth and the vet said things are still looking good! I’m glad the few teeth she has left are doing alright so she won’t need any removed any time soon. I let the vet know that I am moving to Houston and it was a little sad to say goodbye. They’ve been a great clinic to go to and have really taken good care of Pixie. I hope I can find another nice vet in Houston.
That’s about all I can think of for March! Overall I would say it was a very good month. ^.^
Xoxo,
Glitzy

AKon 25 – 2014

AKon celebrated it’s 25th anniversary this year at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. It’s one of the longest running anime conventions in the US. I have been 3 years in a row now, and this year I arrived extra early to pick up my badge on Thursday.

The calm before the storm! The hotel is beautiful so it was nice seeing it before it was swarmed with cosplayers. There are some amazing pieces of art throughout the building including a piece of the Berlin Wall.

This was about 9:30 am on Thursday and the registration room was already PACKED with people waiting to pick up their badges. It took me nearly 3 hours to get through the line. Next year I am going to pay extra to just buy my badge on site because that line was nearly empty.

Photo by The Geeky Seamstress (Ms Marvel)
After I got my badge that morning I went home to prepare for the masquerade ball that evening. I figured why not check it out since it was included in the badge price. It was fun dressing up in something more original rather than a cosplay. I wore a black skirt with a lace shirt and my black corset. I got my mask at the mall and felt very Victorian!

The next morning I put on my Princess Celestia cosplay and headed back to the hotel. My dad drove me and my mom since the parking was so expensive. We got there pretty early so my mom took a few photos of me in the courtyard.

Once the dealer’s room opened we made our way up and down the aisles. Anime conventions have some amazing merchandise. I prefer them over comic conventions personally. There’s just more of a variety of trinkets and treasures. Like this booth in the photo!
Last AKon I met Yaya Han for the first time. She even complimented my Fiona from Shrek cosplay. Her line was super long this year so I didn’t get to talk to her, but my mom got this good photo at her booth.

While walking through the dealers room I met this wonderful Princess Anna cosplayer! She looked just like her!

I also spotted Ejen from Cosplay in America. His next book will be coming out soon, and I can’t wait to see his hard work published!

The next day I wore my Sailor Ariel cosplay and met up with the other Disney Sailor Scouts. We had been planning this since February so it was awesome seeing it finally come together.
I’ve admired photographer Aperture Ashley and was so excited to have a shoot scheduled with her. She took this great picture of my Sailor Ariel!
Some of the loot I came home with from AKon was a Korilakkuma Kigurumi, Sailor Moon Moonstick, and a Sylveon postcard by one of my favorite artists – Octopie.
:+:+:+:+:+:
I normally upload all my photos to Facebook, but since a whole days worth didn’t transfer to my new computer I won’t be able to make an album. If I figure out how to retrieve them I will update this post! 🙂
My next convention will be Anime Fest which is just a smaller version of AKon. It’s grown a lot over the years, though, so I expect it won’t be much smaller for long!
You can read last year’s AKon post here!
