I have been so busy lately and so many things have made me happy! I had to delete a few because I had so many pics in this post!
This is my salon Hair by Anna Lee. I decided to get that cute black and white zig zag bench for my salon and move the bulky shelf to another wall. I love having more seating for my clients.
Speaking of hair.. I bleached mine again the other day and toned it with some purple conditioner. It is looking very platinum!
My kitty Pixie had to have surgery on her front paws. You can read about her injuries here. We went ahead with the surgery because she just wasn’t healing on her own. But now she will be a happy kitty!
I am addicted to the mystery bags of My Little Pony. You never know which one you’ll get so I buy a bag any time I see them. I was SO HAPPY to find Barber Groomsby this time!! He has a scissor and comb cutie mark and barber pole colored bow tie. I put him on my station at my salon! So perfect!
Kat Von D released this new palette called Lady Bird .. It’s a matte set and I am in loveeee with it.
Recently Groupon had comic book headphones on sale for only $8. I got the Green Lantern for my mom and the Flash for me. This was my first time buying anything from Groupon and they arrived very quickly!
Last night I saw Jimmy Buffet in concert! And on my way back to the car I found this coconut bra on the ground. No one was around to claim so I figured it was meant for me 😛 Now my mannequin is in Margaritaville.
There was an update on EverQuest 2 with some new content added. This is the boss Volot in the Siren’s Grotto. He is hilarious.. he’ll summon a million little frogs to attack you. I won, of course. 😉
I’ve been on a search for macarons for awhile and never found any in town. I finally got to try some in Houston once. But the other day at the mall I saw this little kiosk that had cake balls and french macarons! I just squealed!! The raspberry one was delicious!
And finally, here’s an update on my Fiona cosplay. I made the ears and finished the axe!! I decided to remake the shirt because the first one was really uncomfortable. I think I am just about done with it and hope to get some finished photos soon.
:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:
Anything make you squeal with happiness in your life lately?
I don't squeal, but I laughed with happiness earlier tonight when I scored 1,444 points on one word in Wordfeud (Scrabble for the phone). You can play on boards where the bonus tiles are randomly placed, and I found a nice run of tiles all next to each other. It was the first word of the game too!
I've been waiting for you to do another Happy Things post, so I could share this picture with you. This album comes up on my Pandora sometimes when I'm in a relaxing mood. The picture on the album cover always makes me smile. The turtle looks so content. http://www.liquidmindmusic.com/wallpaper/LM1_standard_1280x960.jpg
Also, I love your updates! You and your salon both look great! I hope that Pixie is doing well and has a speedy recovery. Boss Gorot looks cool! Frogs are the best.
Those headphones look pretty sweet. I'm looking for some inexpensive over-the-ear ones since my old ones broke a little while ago.
I don't know if I would say squeal, more like full-blown shout(and sorry I forgot to tell you), but I got my call from American Ninja Warrior! Only that it's in 2 weeks, will have to drive to Denver, and I'll miss DCC, guess I gotta follow my heart. Your axe is awesome though! Sorry I'm gonna miss your Fiona costume
Woohoo!! I am so excited for you Joey! That's great you get to go! Will this just be an audition or filming an actual episode? Either way, I am so stoked for ya! Do tell how it goes when you get back.
I hope Pixie is going ok. Such a brave kitty. You headphones look rad. And speaking of rad THAT AXE!!! HOLY MOLY!!! You've done such a great job. I am so excited for this costume.
wow..you have cool tattoos ! would you ever blog about them and what they mean to you ? anyway..thanx for everything you do! have fun at dallas comic con next week !
Mom found my sleeping bag from when I was little.. I would take this with me on every sleep over and in the car when we took my brothers to school. I love it! 🙂
I saw this awesome clutch in a magazine the other day.
Hehe!
This was in Vogue! It’s got the amazing Cadillac Ranch behind the model. So cool!
And this is my epic fail of the day .. I had just filled up the cat food container, and I guess I didn’t put the lid on tight enough 😉 I laughed so hard and just HAD to get a pic!
And here is a recent shot of my sweet Pixie next to Opal the unicorn. OMG so cute <3
Literally just got back from my road trip to Austin, TX for Ikkicon and was so excited about it that I just had to blog right away! It was very unplanned and spur of the moment so I didn’t have time to make a new cosplay. This was my first time to Ikkicon and although the size of the venue (like the dealer’s room and the panels) was smaller the amount of people was tremendous! As soon as I walked into the lobby I was blown away by how many people were dressed up in cosplay. Everyone had a wig on or ears or SOMETHING! It was so cool to see! I was most excited to meet up with several friends like Eric (we’ve been friends since high school!) and his girlfriend Marianne, Mia Moore who is my new BBFF (best blogger friend forever), Jonathan (who I met at AnimeFest), and Payton (also from AnimeFest and Fan Days) … So check out the pics and enjoy the anime overload!
I think he won Best in Show in the cosplay contest.
Marianne as Seras Victoria from Hellsing
Payton as Dark Zelda.. And that was a great Link but I don’t know his name
What’s better than one Rainbow Dash? Two!
Jack Skellington and Zero
Sunday I decided to dress up as a Sailor Moon fan 😉
This was the swag I picked up.. Luna and Artemis plushes, some cute bows, and a free sticker from Cosplay in America – really cool site and super nice guy!
And this was my view from my hotel room! Austin is pretty cool!
It was so great to meet you, even if it was super short! (BBFF, I LOVE THAT!!) I love Austin and Ikki has always been a fun con. It was so weird that it wasn't on New Year's Eve this time around but it was still awesome!
A few weeks ago I went on an adventure to see the band One Direction perform! I became a Directioner after seeing the guys perform Story of My Life on SNL. I couldn’t believe how well they sang and the song really moved me. After that I bought all their albums and was instantly hooked. So when I first heard that the Where We Are Tour was making a stop in Dallas I just knew I wanted to get tickets. I was excited to see this specific tour because I had made a playlist of their setlist and had every song memorized!
The concert was held at AT&T Stadium which is where the Dallas Cowboys play football. I had never been to this stadium before so I left really early to avoid bad traffic. I was impressed with how well they had labeled the parking lots and had no trouble finding a spot.
While waiting for the doors to open, you could shop at the merchandise tent outside. I thought this was incredibly smart because you could buy everything you wanted and take it right back to your car and not have to carry it around during the show.
I decided to buy this purple and pink shirt. It photographed kinda dark but it’s really a pretty color, and I like that it says the name of the tour at the bottom.
This is from the very back of the stadium. I loved that someone on Instagram said “bow ties are cool” .. At first I was like huh? But the backdrop totally looks like a bow tie! haha!
Since I went by myself to this concert I had to ask a stranger to take this pic for me. Luckily the place was swarming with young girls with nice mothers willing to help ^.^
I saw on Facebook that my cosplay friend Emily Ann was also at the show! So I messaged her the section I was in and she came by to say Hello!
Since Emily had amaaaazzzzing seats I asked if I could post one of the photos she and her friends took. I can’t believe how close they were to the stage! This photo didn’t require any zoom at all!
I still had a decent view from my seat and was able to see the boys pretty well when they walked along the extended stage.
During one of the songs everyone turned their phones on and the whole place lit up like the night sky. It was truly breathtaking.
I really enjoyed how funny the guys were with each other. At one time Liam let the whole audience know that Harry sleeps with his hair in a bun. And another time Niall did a great Texas accent for us!
The stage itself was very impressive. They had a fantastic light show and small fireworks went off several times. I loved it when the stage extended up into the air because I could almost believe that maybe one of them saw me ^.^
:+:+:+:
I realize not everyone is a One Direction fan, and I totally respect that. But please don’t say anything negative about my likes! I found that their concert was super professional and very entertaining. One of the best I’ve been to! It’s been exciting to watch this ‘cute boy band’ turn into some highly talented young men. They can sing SO well. And they truly never stopped thanking the crowd and looking around the entire stadium with awe. Now I am looking forward to their next album!
My favorite genre to geek out over is definitely “fantasy.” I have always loved anything magical, mythical and mystical. It’s why I choose to mostly play MMORPGs like EverQuest 2 or dress up as an elven warrior or princess. While browsing through YouTube videos tonight, I found an artist named Erutan. I am kind of shocked I have never heard of her before. Her music is enchanting and fits right in with my playlists. The best part of discovering the song “The Willow Maid” on YouTube was witnessing the whimsical tale through a moving collage of art. I have listened to her whole album “Raindancer” on iTunes now and equally enjoyed it. But I do recommend you watch the video to experience the story first hand. 🙂 Another favorite of mine is her cover of the song “Come Little Children” from the movie Hocus Pocus. Erutan had created a Kickstarter to help produce a physical copy of her album, and I am so happy that she’s gone way over her goal. Very well-deserved!
Perhaps the timing of this discovery was meant to be for me. I will be my favorite elf this Saturday! I am wearing my Legolas cosplay to the Heart of Texas Comic Con in Waco, Tx. I’m excited for the chance to meet Manu Bennett who is Azog the Defiler in The Hobbit. Be sure to follow me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook (@GlitzyGeekGirl) to see my posts from the weekend. This is my first time having a table at a convention and being a costume contest judge, too!
:+:+:+:
Who are some of your favorite “fantasy” musicians?
Last week I went on an adventure to downtown Dallas to see the Broadway musical production of Disney's The Little Mermaid! My dad saw an ad for this in the paper, and I immediately bought tickets since they were selling fast. This event was put on by the Dallas Summer Musicals for their 74th season. They are the largest producer of theatrical entertainment in the Southwest United States. Before the performance they said it typically takes them about 12 weeks to prepare for a show, but this one was completed in only 3 weeks! That included all the costume designs, set building and rehearsals. The quality was not compromised one bit because this musical was a beautiful production of epic proportion!
Holy cow! I did so much in 2013!! One of my favorite things about blogging is the chance to look back through old posts and re-live those experiences. There’s no way I could pick just one to be my favorite.. So here’s a list of some of the things that made my 2013 awesome!
Travel
I never thought I would go to Disney World.. and now I’ve been there twice! Thanks to some flight vouchers, my Dad and I were able to visit Disney World again this past spring and see the newly built FantasyLand 🙂
Last year I got a taste of what convention and cosplay life was like. And this year I really ran with it! My favorite convention of the year was the Dallas Comic Con and A-Kon. They are the biggest local cons, and had a lot of good artists and media guests. The best part is seeing all my friends in their new costumes!
Cosplay has been a new hobby of mine that I just can’t seem to shake. I’m totally addicted! It makes comic and anime conventions so much more fun. My favorite part of cosplaying is creating the outfit. In just a year, I feel like I’ve grown as an artist. And I definitely owe it to all my cosplaying friends. I feel so inspired by them and really love how encouraging the community is. My favorite costumes from this year were Arwen from The Lord of The Rings and Fiona from Shrek. It was hard to pick, but I remember feeling super happy and excited to put these outfits on.
I wore 10 new costumes this year! Here’s the list:
-Asajj Ventress
-Arwen
-Fiona from Shrek
-Evil Mary Marvel
-Sailor Venus
-Annie from League of Legends
-Black Widow
-Legolas
-Luna Lovegood
-Fionna from Adventure Time
Favorite Books
I’m trying to remember if I read anything besides The Mortal Instruments series, but I don’t think I did. I’m a little sad I didn’t read more.. but at least there were 5 books in this series. I loved them all, and I can’t wait until the next one comes out in 2014.
I don’t get to make it out to the theater for new releases too often, but this year I managed to see a couple! My favorite was definitely Thor: The Dark World. I wrote a review about it, and now I’m considering making a Thor cosplay! The movie was a good mix of action, humor and romance.
Other movies I saw that I loved:
-Wreck It Ralph
-The Avengers
-Warm Bodies
-The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
-Frozen
Note: I know for a fact I am going to LOVE The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, but just haven’t had a chance to go see it yet!
Favorite TV Shows
The Vampire Diaries is still on top of my list of favorite shows. It’s really the only one that I watch live. I will not make plans on Thursday nights because that’s TVD night! I was lucky enough to attend a Vampire Diaries convention this year, too.
Other shows I am hooked on:
-Game of Thrones
-The Big Bang Theory
-Glee
-Sleepy Hollow
Favorite Songs
Growing up I listened to music constantly. All kinds, too! And that definitely hasn’t changed. This year my top played songs were very eclectic. Paramore’s “Still Into You” takes the crown! I love this song and video so much!
My other favorite songs of the year:
-One Direction – Story of My Life
-Demi Lovato – Lightweight
-Lindsey Stirling – Song of the Caged Bird (I saw her live!)
-The Killers – Here With Me (I saw them live this year, too!)
-Katy Perry – Roar
Favorite Games
Animal Crossing: New Leaf wins this category so easily. I never thought I could be addicted to a game other than EQII. I love hanging out with my villagers, buying new outfits, and participating in the holiday events. It’s just the cutest game ever!
Of course I’m still addicted to:
-EverQuest II
-League of Legends
-Pokemon X
Favorite Blogs
Now that my blog has been around for over a year, I have had the pleasure of getting to know other bloggers! Cazz over at Nerd Burger has become a great friend, and I love seeing her posts about new comics, geek fashion, and watching her videos. She even cosplayed for the first time as Carrie Kelly and looked fantastic!! I also became closer to Mia Moore, who lives just down the road in Austin, Tx. We got to meet up a couple times for conventions this year. I love talking cosplay, anime and movies with her!
-Go to San Diego Comic Con. This is like the con of all cons! It’s really hard to get tickets, so I’m hoping my application for a press badge is accepted!
-Get better at making props for my cosplays. I use a lot of cardboard and foam. And I’d really like to challenge myself by using new materials.
-Be more active (who DOESN’T put this on their to-do list?) But seriously, I sit at the computer a lot.. like a whole lot. I’d like to do more activities outside.
-I never made it to the Dallas Aquarium or Arboretum which was on my list for 2013. So I definitely HAVE to do that.
-See more movies. This sounds like a silly goal, but I’d like to go to the theater for new releases more often.
-Reply to blog comments. I’m putting this because I am really bad about replying. I absolutely read every single comment on my blog, Facebook, Instagram, etc … But I tend to check them on my phone and tell myself I’ll reply to it when I get to my computer. I appreciate everyone taking the time to look at my posts, and I would love to interact and become a better friend! I can be super shy, and a big goal of mine for 2014 is to become more social. On AND off the internet.
So let’s all raise a glass (Coke Zero in mine) and celebrate the end of a great year and the beginning of an even better one!
This is a bit of a random Happy Things post.. Because it includes a lot of things I had meant to blog about from a couple months ago and just didn’t find the time to post them. I did share most of these things via Instagram so be sure to follow me there to stay up-to-date 🙂
So back in September I got to attend a Supernatural convention! I went by myself, had a terrible seat during the Q&A, and autograph tickets were already sold out. So typing up a whole blog post seemed kinda pointless since I didn’t take too many photos. But listening to the Q&A with Sam and Dean was awesome, and I did fork out some money to get a picture with Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) .. I loved him in Gilmore Girls, too, so that was an added bonus.
Next event I wanted to blog about was the Paramore concert! They’re probably my favorite band, and I danced to all the songs in their set! My mom went with me and we had pretty good seats right in the middle, but neither of our phones got very clear pics. I did buy a shirt, tho 🙂
The day before Thanksgiving, Medieval Times posted on their Facebook that tickets were only $25 for that night’s show. Normally, a ticket is like $60-$70.. so I begged my parents to take me since the price was so low ^.^ I absolutely LOVE going to Medieval Times. I have lost count how many times I’ve been there now. And I am pretty sure some of the knights recognized me. You get to eat a huge meal (with your hands!) and watch an awesome show. Huzzah!
A couple weeks ago I bought this Carissa Rose print. I’d like to get a nice frame for it and hang it up in my room. She makes really cool, colorful artwork.
You may have noticed my hair color changing quite a bit throughout all my posts and pics.. I change it so often that I forget to make new blog posts about it. Or maybe I think y’all get tired of seeing those kinds of posts? I dunno .. but here’s some pics of what I’ve done lately!
I was planning on just touching up my roots with more purple.. but when I put the bleach on it started turning kinda green. So I just went with it and added more teal dye. 😛
The most recent color I’ve done was bleaching out the green/teal and this time adding pink to the roots. People usually ask me how I change my color so much without damaging it. I always use demi-permanent color, and I haven’t put bleach on the ends of my hair in about 7 months. I only have to do the roots for now. The color at the middle/ends is from that time I put dark purple on it.. and this is what it’s faded to. I did shampoo the pink dye down towards the bottom to give it a more pinkish glow.
This picture makes me so happy!!! I entered the official Mortal Instruments Pinterest board contest and was one of the 5 winners! I heard about it from their Facebook page and since I am totally addicted to Pinterest, I had no problem spending an entire night making a Clary Fray Inspired board. There were quite a few entries, but I saw my name listed as one of the winners and freaked out!! I emailed them my address and a few days later got a box from Sony Entertainment. It had the movie on BluRay/DVD, the movie’s soundtrack, Jace’s stele, tattoos, trading cards, a journal, bag, and t-shirt. The item I was most excited for was The Shadowhunters Codex. I wasn’t expecting to get all these amazing items so I was really really happy!!
My next happy thing is the jewelry I ordered from Kuma Crafts. This beautiful Sailor Moon necklace has been on my wish list for quite some time. I finally decided to order it, and I am so glad I did. It’s exquisite!! It’s so well-made, glitzy and girly, and looks great with any outfit. The package came with some adorable stickers, too!
And finally, a Happy Things post wouldn’t be complete without a picture of Pixie Doodle.
:+:+:+:
What has made you happy lately?
(Or in the last couple months since my post has things all the way back to September hahaha)
I was so excited to take a road trip down to Houston, Tx to see my family and watch the Video Games Live concert! We also took a day trip down to Galveston, Tx to see the beach!
So long, Dallas!
In the car, I listened to Paramore, Metric, and The Killers.
So I am a little behind on blogging about all the concerts I got to see recently! Last one I blogged about was Muse. But I got to go to three more since then! First up was EdgeFest!
This was my outfit for EdgeFest. Since it is an outdoor festival I was ready for it to be hot.
And boy was it hot! I got a pretty bad sunburn.
This is the view from my seat. I don’t stand in the crowd anymore because it gets too sweaty and gross.
This guy sat in front of me and people kept asking for photos with him. I finally asked my neighbor and she said he is the lead singer for Youngblood Hawke!
I was most excited to see The Gaslight Anthem. They are definitely one of my all time favorite bands ever. I saw them once in a smaller venue and was excited to see them again at EdgeFest. Unfortunately, they didn’t play too well. Or maybe they did, but I couldn’t hear them at all. I was bummed. But do check out their music anyway, because they really are a great band!
The second band I was most excited to see was Paramore! I am a really big fan of theirs. I also got to see them a long time ago with Jimmy Eat World. That was an amazing show. And this concert was great, too. They played awesome and I already knew all the words to the songs from their new album!
Next concert was…..
Jimmy Buffett! You wouldn’t believe it from these pictures but it was literally THE NEXT WEEKEND after EdgeFest. IT WAS SO COLD! That’s Texas weather for ya, I guess. I looked stupid all bundled up when everyone around me was wearing hula skirts and coconut bras, but when the sun went down it was freezing cold! Then everyone wished they had bundled up like me.
This place was packed. It was also at the same venue as EdgeFest.
Jimmy Buffett was on my Dad’s list of concerts he has always wanted to see. I am so glad I got to go with him!
On the way back to our car I found a lonely coconut bra. So I had to take it home with me!
I think it looks great 😀
And the next concert was…….
The Killers! This band was on my Mom’s list! It was at the Verizon Theatre. I had never been to a concert there before, and I was really impressed with the place.
I found this awesome couch in the lounge room, too!
We had great seats and the sound was amazing. The vibe of this show was incredible. And the lead singer was SO CUTE.
During the show they shot confetti at the crowd. On Twitter, the band said that somewhere in the confetti are two “golden tickets” … If you find one bring it to the sound guy in the back and you get to win an AWESOME prize!
We looked and looked but didn’t find a golden ticket. It was still so much fun!
:+:+:+:+:+:+:
I don’t have any more concerts planned at the moment. Someday I would like to see No Doubt, Florence + The Machine, and Mumford & Sons. I like music that I can sing along with 🙂
She is brave! She is fierce! She is .. Wonder Woman! I chose to make a Wonder Woman cosplay to wear to the Dallas Comic Con (now called Fan Expo Dallas) because I wanted to wear a costume that was fun, colorful and a character I admired. I feel like no other comic book superhero fits that criteria better than Wonder Woman! So if you have ever considered making this cosplay for yourself here is my tutorial/walk through/guide of how I made mine!
This past weekend was the October edition of Dallas Comic Con! It was originally called "Fan Days" but I just learned that they will be renaming their 3 conventions. (If you're curious – February's will be Fan Days, May's will be Dallas Fan Expo, and October's will be Dallas Comic Con) But anyway I will probably still refer to this one as Fan Days for now 😀
They had announced early on that Elijah Wood and the Phelps twins from Harry Potter would be attending! I immediately bought a premium badge because I knew I would want to meet them. They also announced Alex Kingston (Doctor Who), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Burt Ward and Adam West (Batman and Robin) but they all sadly had to cancel. There were still several other great guests from Indian Jones and The Goonies as well as some big named comic book artists. I am totally blaming the Ebola scare that happened in Dallas this month for the cancellations. Thankfully I think it's all under control now!
My favorite convention of the year is the Dallas Comic Con. It's one of the largest in Texas, and I always look forward to seeing my friends here. The convention was held at a larger venue for the first time, too. This had its pros and cons. It was nice not having to wait in line outside in the heat. It also meant the lines inside were managed better since it was mostly all on one floor. At the old convention center, people were getting stuck on the *single* escalator and missing panels because they couldn't get upstairs!
This year for Free Comic Book Day (May 3) I dressed up as my favorite female comic character – Ramona Flowers!
There are several comic book stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, but I decided to visit Madness Games & Comics. It’s one of the biggest stores in Texas!
This is only one third of the store, and there’s usually rows and rows of tables for Friday Night Magic. They moved those out for the day to make room for the free comic books, artist Matthew Warlick, and two celebrity guests: Judge Reinhold and Mark Dodson (who voiced Jabba the Hutt!)
While waiting in line for my free comics, I found the droid I was looking for!
I picked out 5 new comics, but was sad that the Avatar issue was already gone. I did get a Guardians of the Galaxy comic, though!
After I picked out my comics, I met Judge Reinhold! He was in Beverly Hills Cop, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and The Santa Clause.
On my way home, I took off my Ramona Flowers’ wig only to reveal more Ramona hair! I love how nicely short hair fits under wigs.
About every 2 or 3 months there is a small comic convention show called North Texas Comic Book Show. I have seen many of my friends attend it so I decided it was time I check it out.
My friend Sean dressed up as Hawkeye, and I went as Black Widow. This was Sean’s first time to go, too.
The show was held in a smaller hotel near downtown Dallas, but had two big rooms filled with vendors.
In the rooms you could find vintage toys and loads of comic books. There were also quite a few artists to meet.
I found several good deals here, and would like to go back to see what treasures I could find next time.
There were a handful of cosplayers in attendance as well. This is Enasni Volz as Dr. Harleen Quinzel. She won the costume contest!
I’d like to dedicate this post to Chris Skiles. He is the cosplayer next to me dressed as Darth Nihilus. His costume played a sound recording of the character’s deep booming voice. While we were standing by each other during the costume contest I asked him what the recording was saying. He whispered to me that he wasn’t really sure, and we both laughed together. I know it was a very small moment, but it feels like yesterday that I shared it with Chris.
He was very active in our local cosplay scene, and I had the chance to see him at several other conventions. I couldn’t believe it when I heard that Chris passed away this week. He was only 30 years old, and I learned that he was also an Air Force veteran. At the Dallas Sci Fi Expo this Saturday several of us will be honoring Chris by wearing a white ribbon on our costumes. I didn’t know Chris well, but I have been touched by the opportunity I’ve had to meet new people through cosplay. My heart goes out to his friends and family.
A couple weeks ago the Dallas Comic & Pop Expo held a pre-event signing with George Takei! Madness Comics hosted it and they had a great turn out. George was in town to narrate the Sci-Fi Spectacular performance by the Fort Worth Symphony. I enjoyed hanging out with my friends Krystal and Sean as we browsed through the comics while we waited. George was very polite and excited to meet everyone.
This was my outfit for the event. My Nyan Cat hoodie is from ThinkGeek and my Batman leggings are from Hot Topic.
I didn’t mind waiting in line at Madness Comics because it is a really awesome comic book store. It’s huge! It used to be a Chuck E Cheese. Also, it was Friday so there was Friday Night Magic going on, lots of people to chat with and so many cool things to buy.
Dallas Comic & Pop Expo is a convention I’ve never been to. They were giving out 10% off ticket coupons, and I wish I had used it before it expired because Xander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer is going to be at this convention!! I might just have to try and go to meet him.
George chatted and shook hands with everyone. I was glad they allowed photography at the table so I could snap a few shots.
Here are my friends Krystal and Sean with George. This was the official photo Sean paid for.
Here I am with my freshly autographed Star Trek photo. I am excited to add this to my collection!
Another fun thing about this event was getting to meet the creator of Nyan Cat! Yes you read that correctly. It turns out Christopher Torres lives in the Dallas area! He was in line to meet George, saw me wearing my brightly colored jacket and came up to say hello. Then he gave us some Nyan Cat stickers and buttons! I don’t know if I was more excited to meet him or George Takei! lol
A few days ago, I decided to rent the first Thor movie since Thor: The Dark World comes out this weekend! I have totally fallen in love with Chris Hemsworth. But also Natalie Portman! She’s so cute in the movie. I am excited to watch the second movie tomorrow so tonight I was googling Thor crafts and came across this awesome headband tutorial by Doodle Craft. I decided right away I had to make it!
I made my wings smaller than Doodle Craft’s tutorial so they could be worn more often. But it would be fun to remake this in different wing shapes and sizes.
I printed out a wing shape that I liked and traced it onto some sheet foam.
Normally I would gesso the sheet foam so it would become thicker and more sturdy, but tonight I wanted this done quick so I just decided to spray paint the wings silver.
Then I outlined the wings with gold paint and used hair spray to add some glitter.
Because I am a glitzy Thor girl!
Attach your wings with hot glue to a skinny headband and you’re done!
Pixie insisted on a hug during my photo shoot.
Aww kitty!
This was a super quick and cheap DIY project!

Who is going to see Thor: The Dark World this weekend?
A few weeks ago, I was interviewed for some pretty cool websites. I had shared these interviews on my Facebook and Twitter, but I don’t think I added the links to a post here on my blog. Please check out their sites and give them a follow!
First up is Comic Book Divas. I was able to meet Bob in person a few times at different conventions in town. They always have a booth set up with tshirts and cosplayer photos for sale. Their website offers a news article section, contests, and showcase real women in their comics.
The next interview was done by Zero Fortitude. These guys produce a fun podcast as well as articles to read. They discuss and review a wide range of geek culture from movies to anime to comics. And of course, cosplay!
I feel very honored to be selected by entertainment sites for interviews. I am such a newbie cosplayer, and have so much to learn, but I am grateful my craft has been noticed. So please please check out their sites, follow their podcasts and updates, and show them some love.
:+:+:+:+:+:
On a personal note.. I am going to SOE Live in Las Vegas this week! So be sure to follow my Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for photos while I am there. When I get back in town I will work on a blog post about it. I am so so soooooo excited to hang out with my guild members from EverQuest 2. This convention is going to be a blast.
:+:+:+:+:+:
What geeky websites do you follow for news, updates and interviews?
So this was an epic Saturday to say the least. I was able to celebrate both since I have my own salon now. I wore a Star Wars t-shirt that I bought while at Disney World, and I was able to visit Lone Star Comics on my lunch break! It was a super cool day!
They held a costume contest at the store, and this girl looked so awesome!
I tried wearing Leia buns, too!
At this location, you got to pick out three different comics! It was hard deciding which ones to get. But I love the ones I picked!

Did you pick up your free comics at your local comic store?
A month or so ago I adopted this playful kitty named Jingles from the Frisco Humane Society. I was feeling bad that I left Pixie home alone all day without a friend and was hoping she could become buds with Jingles. Unfortunately that just wasn’t the case. Jingles was so energetic and wanted to play with Pixie all the time and Pixie just wasn’t having it. She definitely likes her personal space and now that I have returned Jingles back to his foster mom Pixie is once again sweet and loving. Jingles has since been adopted to another happy home, and I’m glad he doesn’t have to put up with Pixie’s hissing and growling. He was a sweet, soft kitty and I miss him very much but I know it all worked out for the best! 🙂
Jingles seemed like a really great cat. It's a shame it didn't work out between Jingles and Pixie, but it's good to know that they are both happy again and in loving homes.
Making the tough choice to return Jingles was probably the best for all. He's adorable. Just keep remembering that now he can be free to play and be loved without feeling scared. Good luck Jingle Bells.
As you can tell from my previous post, I was pretty excited to go watch the second installment of Thor in theaters. I had made a winged headband to wear as I cheered on Thor and Loki in their adventures! I will keep this short and sweet and spoiler free!
I actually had not seen the first Thor movie until a few days ago. Luckily, my nearby Redbox had it to rent. So I made some popcorn and checked it out. I knew I was an instant fan of Thor after watching The Avengers. He and Captain America were my favorites due to their stunning good looks and gentlemanlike qualities. (Hey, they’re my type ok!) But truthfully, Thor appears to me as a true hero. He’s big, buff, kind, and genuinely looking out for the good of his people. And his role in Thor: The Dark World confirmed all of that for me.
First, the movie has an overall comedic feel. Which I loved! I laughed out loud at so many different parts. And I never felt like the lines came off as cheesy. Many of the funniest moments weren’t even spoken lines (like where Thor puts his hammer at the apartment) .. That was hilarious! I’m glad they included cameos of other characters, too. That was a nice touch to get a laugh out and also a glimpse at some of our other favorite super heroes.
Second, the movie had a great message. I feel like Thor and Loki’s relationship has excellent balance. This makes the movie more of a family film. It shows that a family may be complicated, but love doesn’t disappear, no matter how evil you might be. I especially enjoyed Rene Russo’s performance as Frigga. Her scenes were so moving and heartfelt that even Loki feels it. And I liked that I understood what I just watched. I didn’t leave the theater wondering why someone did something or what was that meant for. It was an enjoyable story to follow.
Finally, the action was just right. I’m comparing this to how I felt after Man of Steel. Superman straight up destroyed everything. And I had a hard time enjoying the mass chaos. I’m all for some good fight scenes, but too much and I’m a little turned off. The scenes in Asgard had a magical feel to them with the use of a more medieval touch. I enjoyed seeing the close up punches rather than who can throw the other into the farthest building.
So to conclude, I would probably say the two Thor movies combined have made it one of my favorite super hero story lines. The actors and actresses meshed well, the special effects brought another world to life, and the subtle love story resonated with me. I’d say this movie has something for just about everyone!
My husband and I are going to see it tomorrow! This review has me pretty excited. Tom Hiddleston's Loki is a true treasure! He seems to really care about his role, AND, appreciate the fame it's brought to him, and the connection it has made with his fans.
And YES! Thor is a total fittie! So stoked for this.
I absolutely loved it! The dynamic between Thor and Loki has always been so interesting and it really reached a new depth in this film. Plus, I agree that there was some comedy gold sprinkled throughout the movie. I can't wait for more, because really there has to be!
Great review Anna. Cool to see a stand-alone Marvel movie actually acknowledge the fact that yes, the Avengers did happen, and that they still exist in this universe, even if they aren't always popping-up to say hello or kick some butt.
I can't believe I still haven't seen it. I didn't like the first Thor film that much except for topless Thor. Maybe I'll like this one more. It sounds much better.
OMG FINALLY! I have been driving my family crazy trying to come up with a new blog name! The Galaxy Life was so lame, but everything we came up with was already taken! But not GLITZYGEEKGIRL! Here at GGG I will still bring you all the fabulous posts as before and much more! This new identity is giving me some inspiration! So expect some really great posts. I have so many bloggers that I admire and enjoy reading and now it’s my turn! I’ve got my Zelda Symphony post ready to publish and this weekend I’ll be at the Dallas Comic Con’s Fan Days convention. Once I have more time I’ll really update my header and backgrounds and such, too. Thanks so much for all the love, and I hope you enjoy the blog!
Well somehow I managed to lose a whole post finally!! It was bound to happen sooner or later. This isn’t a major important one, but still sucks to lose everything you typed up. So here we go again!
I colored my hair! Looks like the votes went with Pink and Red.. which just so happened to be my favorite ;p .. I probably was going to do this regardless but it was fun seeing what ya’ll picked. Blue and all blonde had some votes and WHO voted for orange?! I said no orange! LOL .. But the Leeloo photo almost had me convinced, too 😉
So the process for this was a little lengthy .. I had been using demi-permanent for the black color so it was kinda easy to bleach out.. I use Wella’s Blondor bleach with 40 volume.. I don’t recommend using 40 unless you know what you’re doing as it’s pretty strong. Whoever voted for orange kinda wins cause that’s what it turned after I bleached it 😛
Yikes!
So then I applied “Candy Pink” by RAW to the top and “Fire Red” to the bottom. My hair smelled like bubble gum and cherries for awhile.
Here’s the finished look! I’ll probably take a few more pics tomorrow.. I was busy at work today. But I got a lot of compliments on it… It almost glows it’s so bright!!
I'm boring and voted for all black! (I thought the dark in the Ren Fest photos was pretty awesome actually.) But I love the way the pink and red turned out! It looks so good! If I was ever going to dye my hair pink and red, I'd definitely go to you to get it done.
Now that I’ve introduced myself a little bit, I think it’d be great if my next post was all about my best friend! As I mentioned before, her name is Pixie =^.^= and I am not bragging when I say she is the greatest kitty in the whole entire galaxy.
I had been wanting to adopt a cat for a while, and after going through a bit of a hard time I was feeling pretty down. So I decided to look into adopting. I knew I wanted to get a rescue animal, so I looked on PetFinder for a few days. I narrowed my search down to an older cat that would already be litter box trained and one that was also already declawed (I don’t have it in me to do that to a cat, but it sure saves your furniture). Pixie popped right up on the list near my city and the pictures they posted of her drew me right in!!
I mean REALLY?? How can you NOT save this kitty with a face like that?? I filled out the application for Frisco Humane Society and got a call back from her foster mom. I drove out to the foster house to check her out. She was a little timid, you could tell she didn’t mind people but wasn’t too pleased with the other cats trying to play with her. They guessed she was about 4 years old, and must have been in some type of accident that badly scarred her ear. But no worries – it’s very healthy and cute as a button. I just have to help her clean the wax out sometimes, hehe.
I later learned from Pixie’s first foster mom that she was found in a town about 30 minutes north of me and was put in a kill shelter. A worker thought she was a Scottish Fold because of her ear so she called her friend that loved that breed of cat. When the friend came to see her she knew right away this wasn’t a Scottish Fold but she was just too cute to leave in a kill shelter. So she took her in and became Pixie’s first foster mom. Eventually the other foster mom took her and had been waiting for the right family to adopt her. She didn’t want her going to a family with kids or other animals because Pixie is kind of prissy and doesn’t like to be tugged on. But now that she has her own home she’s incredibly affectionate and gives me hugs all the time. (She really wraps her arms around my neck!) I’m considering adopting another cat now that I’ve had Pixie for nearly 2 years. She is very clingy to me and I just hate leaving her alone during the day while I am at work. But we will have to see how she handles that! 😛
If you are considering bringing an animal into your home, I highly suggest you adopt one from a rescue shelter. Not only is the pet going to be eternally grateful, but you will feel just how special they are, too!
This was Pixie and I on our 1st anniversary (I celebrate it as her birthday)
Pixie is a happy happy kitty that loves tissue paper, boxes and sacks! 🙂

Congratulations! That's really awesome!
