Happy Things #3

Over 300 blog views already? Surely that can’t be accurate. Thanks for reading if it is!! Leave some comments and say HI πŸ™‚

Here are some recent things that made me happy!

Urban Decay’s glitter eyeliner .. I just got the green one!
Urban Decay’s eyeshadow “Flash”
Playing with my new make up
I love this notebook and pen. I have had it for a long time and don’t remember where it’s from. I use it to write random thoughts in sometimes.

My mom sent me this pic of some new friends she’ll be sending me soon! We used to collect Beanie Babies so I asked if she still had the cute unicorns ^.^

And these lovelies are my new sandals from Steve Madden. I feel like a princess when I wear them!

  1. Totally loving the sandals. If you had to pick a quick bag of makeup what would you take and what brand and color?

    1. I'd definitely need my Kat Von D eyeliner pencil .. I would be lost without that! And I love my hot pink eyeshadow by Make Up Forever. But my two favorite brands have always been MAC and Urban Decay. πŸ™‚

  2. Oh my gosh I have the very same notebook!! I had it when I was like seven and I would always draw in it when I was feeling down. I can't believe you have it too

Houston Road Trip: Video Games Live & Galveston Beach

I was so excited to take a road trip down to Houston, Tx to see my family and watch the Video Games Live concert! We also took a day trip down to Galveston, Tx to see the beach!
So long, Dallas!

In the car, I listened to Paramore, Metric, and The Killers.

Hello, Houston!
More Photos >>>>>>>

The night we arrived in Houston we went to see Video Games Live. I had seen the Zelda Symphony (see my post about it here), but this concert had a wider range of music from all sorts of games.

There were a lot of cosplayers in attendance, and they a held a contest before the show. I was clapping for Cloud and Sheik, but Mario and Luigi won. They had a really cool sound guy with them that made Mario noises as they moved.

Some of the audience got to go on stage and play Super Smash Bros

My favorite part of the whole concert was the guy that won the Guitar Hero contest. He went on stage and played the Foo Fighters song The Pretender on Expert level and scored 99%!!! He was truly amazing to watch!

After the concert, I was so excited to be a “fan” and get my photos with the cosplayers. Part of me missed being in a costume myself, but really I had a lot of fun walking around taking pictures!

Assassin Link!

Link helping Luigi tie his shoe lace.. awww

The next day, we drove down to Galveston, Tx to see the beach!

It was supposed to rain that day, but we got lucky and barely missed it.

These are some of the shells I picked up on the beach. I found a really big one, but we think it had a hermit crab in it.. OMG

And this is a souvenir I got at the gift shop.

It was really cool seeing a cruise ship! I have never seen one before and IT WAS HUGE!
Later, we went back to Houston to spend time with my family. This is Rosie!
And this is Beatrix playing “Paint for Cats” on my iPad.. she was really good at it πŸ™‚
My bro had an awesome photo of a goliath beetle. I was especially excited to see this because it’s one of my favorites to catch on Animal Crossing!

On the way to and from Houston, we stopped at a convenience store called Buc-ee’s (pronounced
buckies). It is EPIC! It’s seriously the best and coolest place to stop. They have delicious snacks and the restrooms are so clean πŸ˜›

Here I am with Buc-ee!!
I had a great trip and really enjoyed the concert and the beach. I can’t wait to make another trip back soon.
:+:+:+:+:+:
Have you been on any summer road trips?

  1. Whoa! All the times that I've stopped at a Buc-ee's, and I've never seen Buc-ee himself! That's cool!

You got some great photos of the concert/symphony! How was the music? What was your favorite song?

  2. I'm not much of a traveler but love reading about your adventures. Galveston has gone through a lot over the years. It's another unique spot along the Texas coast. Love the pic of you with the waves splashing.

Good to know about clean rest stops with fun stuff and food. A must know on any road trip.

    Thanks for sharing.

    P.S. – Kitties are cuties!

Life Update: Houston, Pixie, and Guild Wars 2!

Hey all! I know it’s been too long since I updated! Sorry about that! I think of all these cool posts in my head when I’m not at the computer but when I sit down to type the words don’t seem to flow. I’ve just been busy with real life things lately.
As I have mentioned before, I moved from Dallas to Houston a few months ago. I mostly moved here for family reasons but also because I thought I had some good leads on jobs. Unfortunately it just hasn’t worked out in my favor. I applied at over 20 places and none of them were meant to be. I was at a salon for a little bit but it’s hours did not work with my schedule. I’m spending time now focusing on my family and dealing with some other personal things before I dive back into the job search.
I also found out this week that Pixie is going to need surgery again. She has tooth resorption and last fall she had a serious accident where her top canine broke off due to decay and she developed a fistula. She had most of her teeth extracted except for her two bottom canines and a couple teeth in the back. I’ve been taking her to see a vet about once a month to make sure it doesn’t get worse. When I moved to Houston, the new vet I visited barely looked in her mouth and never called me back. I didn’t want to go back to him so I found a different one this week and really liked her a lot. This vet looked at Pixie’s mouth very closely and decided it would be in Pixie’s best interest to have all her remaining teeth extracted. Things have progressed rather rapidly again. Her gums are very inflamed and seem to be rejecting her bottom canines. The teeth are literally being “pushed up and out of her gums” and are likely to break off soon if not taken care of. It’s also very painful. The good news is she doesn’t have any infections yet since I caught it early this time! Pixie is scheduled to have her surgery this coming Monday, and we are all hopeful that this will finally put an end to her gum issues.
In some other super good awesome news – I got a partnership with Guild Wars 2 and ArenaNet!!! This means if you use my links to buy Heart of Thorns or try the free to play version a small portion will directly support me!! This was a dream come true and has been a complete honor to be a part of. I have been able to meet amazing people in this community and that has honestly been the greatest reward. The game has some very exciting updates coming soon with Living World Season 3 being launched on July 26. So it’s a great time to check it out!
I do plan to eventually apply for a Twitch subscribe button again. My numbers have increased since the last time I applied, but now the problem is I don’t have a set streaming schedule. I don’t really have time to be consistent during the week besides Monday nights. I hope to change this as soon as I can, but of course family needs to come first. So I appreciate everyone that does tune in whenever I am live!
More random things I’ve done lately can be seen on my Instagram or Twitter. I went to the Houston Aquarium for my brother’s birthday, checked out my first Houston comic con – Comicpalooza, saw a Houston Astros baseball game and have actually been getting some exercise with PokemonGo. Dealing with anxiety and stress can be hard but I am thankful for all the good moments I’ve had. πŸ™‚
Thank you all that have kept in touch with me on social media! Hope you have a good week!!
XOXO,
Glitzy

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #8

What is your name?
Vætr Droppin Bombz!

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?

Or how long have you been playing?
I’ve been playing since beta!

What made you want to try the game?

A friend of mine was talking about it; sounded interesting and unique, plus I had never played an MMO, so I figured why not give it a shot!

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?

Dagger/Dagger Elementalist! I spent a lot of time training and playing Ele in general, and to me D/D Ele is extremely fun!

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?

Go to my home instance or guild hall and collect my daily nodes.

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
I totally “Shut up and take my money!” Lol. I like the new maps; the sense of urgency, to complete objectives, and overall involvement with the content is good. The maps are expansive and detailed, and are just really fun to explore.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?

I want to craft a second Eternity, and also craft Flameseeker Prophecies.

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
I am in the best guild evah, Ethereal Guardians [EG]. They’re PvE centric, but do a lot of PvP and WvW as well. Well rounded guild, fully upgraded buffs, and the best Guild Hall! Check them out, put in an application! http://etherealguardians.com/recruitment

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?

More consistent updates for WvW that involve ANet actually paying attention to what the WvW community is asking for. Separate balance patches for WvW, PvE, and PvP. Better/more consistent rewards for the more difficult content. More non-raid dungeons!!!! =D

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
Metrica Province! It is wrapped in mystery and rich with lore. It feels like there’s a lot there worth exploring and investigating beyond what the naked eye can see.

Happy Things #26

Here are some things that have made me happy lately!
My brown hair makes me so happy! I honestly never thought I’d say that. I colored it brown a little over a month ago, and it’s been great! I have had just about every hair color under the sun and while I do miss having it bright and funky – it was time for me to take a break. My hair was super healthy so it wasn’t my hair that needed the break – it was me. I always do my hair myself and it takes me an entire evening to bleach and dye it a crazy color. Now with it brown I haven’t had to touch it up at all. It’s faded some so I might darken it soon but gosh it’s been nice not having to deal with roots every two weeks!
This picture of Pixie Doodle makes me happy because I’ve never seen her sit on this heart pillow. I walked into the room and she was perched on it and it made a great pic! (Her face says “Are you seriously taking my picture AGAIN?”)

My new tattoo by Dru Bias at Saints and Sinners is one of my absolute favs now. It’s a cover up of a very old and bad tattoo so to see this amazing Luna kitty from Sailor Moon on my wrist everyday now is unbelievable. I had been getting my old one lasered off (I’ll make another post about that experience). Now I am just so happy to have this!

Octopie is one of my all time favorite artists! I first saw her work at Ikkicon two years ago and bought a print of hers at AKon this summer. When I saw her post that she was open for commissions I immediately jumped on it! I can’t believe all the little details she put into my chibi. She got my dice ring, tattoos, my star necklace and rainbow bracelets!! I love the Toki Doki headband and that’s my favorite wig from Gothic Lolita Wigs. Even my buttons made it in there! Gosh it’s just so perfect. Thank you Octopie!
Another cute pic of Pixie Doodle! (I have millions I could share.) This one is her watching me play Guild Wars 2. She loves it! She sits here all the time and even paws at the screen sometimes.

My final Happy Thing is this pic of Jim Shore at his signing last weekend. I was in the mall with my mom and we heard an announcement that he was going to be there the next day. We both stopped and said WHAT! We love his figurines and have collected many over the years. The day we met him he was incredibly polite and took a lot of time to speak to everyone in line. He signed our new Anna and Elsa, Olaf, and Snowman figures. It was a true joy getting to chat with him. You could honestly hear his passion about his art and craft in his voice. I’m so glad I could share this experience with my mom! BFFs!!

Happy Things #25

Most of these Happy Things pics were posted on my Instagram (@GlitzyGeekGirl) but they made me so happy they’re worth blogging about, too!
I’ve been playing the new mobile game Tsum Tsum and quickly became a huge fan. My local Disney Store had these Tsums for sale, too! If you play be sure to add me so we can send hearts. My Line user ID is GlitzyGeekGirl.
Pixie would make a great Tsum don’t you think? πŸ˜› (Did you know Tsum Tsum means “stack stack” and the underneath side of the plushies are made for cleaning your phone’s screen?)
A few weeks later I went back to the mall and got these goodies from the Disney Store.
I also finally put together my Lego Cinderella Castle. I will need to take a picture of my castle and figurines to show you how I displayed them!
This photo is from Anime Fest in the food court area of the hotel. They have large prisms up in the ceiling by the glass windows so giant rainbows spread across the floor. I hope to have my Anime Fest post up next so be sure to check back for that.

My dad treated me to IHOP one day recently where I ordered this delicious omelette with pancakes and hashbrowns. Anyone else LOVE breakfast foods? I sure do!
And lately I’ve really been enjoying the products found on Zulily. They have different specials each day and feature a lot of great clothes, kids toys, and home decor. I loved the My Little Pony and Frozen event they recently had (I got an Olaf backpack and some Funkos!) And today is a TOMS shoes event. Signing up is free and their mobile app is very easy to use.
If you sign up please use my link!

Happy Things #24

Here are some things that have made me happy lately!
I am an avid collector of My Little Pony merchandise, and the blind bags you find at Target or Walmart are no exception! I have several duplicates of random ponies so I decided to make hair clips out of them! I have a few that I might put in my Etsy store if there’s enough interest in them πŸ™‚
Having duplicates doesn’t stop me from buying more ponies. I recently got this sparkly Fluttershy!
Here’s Pixie sitting in a tutu!

Owning a pair of Gunnar glasses has been on my wish list for awhile. When I saw they would be at Quake Con (which was a free gaming event) I decided to go and check them out. These were considerably cheaper since I got to buy them from an official booth and not online. I had LASIK on my eyes several years ago, and the bright screen isn’t the best thing to look at for hours. The glasses really do make things sharper, and my eyes don’t feel as stressed out now.

My Gunnar glasses get a lot of use out of them! I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 a whole bunch lately. I kinda play sporadically. But Pixie loves sitting by while I battle dragons.
I played so much lately that I finally got my main character to level 80! I also earned my first title “The Sunbringer”! Ooooohh!!

My friend Krystal had a birthday/moving out party a few weeks ago, and it felt like a perfect time to wear my Hello Kitty dress. I got this from Macy’s last year, and it still had the tags on it!

I also brought these delicious cookies to Krystal’s party.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Heavenly Fire was released several months ago now, and I had entered a few online contests to try and win a signed book and exclusive hoodie. Well, a few days ago this package showed up at my door! I never received an email saying I won, but I assume it was one of the many blogs that was hosting it. I didn’t win the signed book, but seeing the hoodie and rune tattoos gave me the boost I needed to finally finish reading the book.

You are probably looking at this photo and going “Huh?” Haha so let me explain! This is a bowling ball in my backyard! It’s something fun my family likes to find at garage sales and thrift stores. We put the bowling balls around our garden. They kinda look like giant marbles. We found this ball at the local Trade Days for only $5.

My last Happy Things item is this shirt I ordered from Amazon. I have no shame in admitting I love One Direction, and I’m super pumped to see them in concert in a few weeks! So I ordered this shirt to wear to the show. πŸ™‚

Happy Things #23

Here are some things that have put a smile on my face lately!! πŸ™‚
I ordered the purple macaron pillow from Squishables! It’s a lot bigger than I expected and is great for lounging around while reading or watching TV.
Pixie had a snuggle session with Pascal. They’re best of buds, aww!

I play Guild Wars 2 on and off again and laughed when I met this cute froggie the other day.
(For you, Ser Frog!)
A couple weeks ago I dyed my hair all over purple. There’s some pics on my Instagram (@glitzygeekgirl), but I thought it looked a little too dark. So I bleached it out and went with a pastel pink/purple! I added some more tone to it since this pic, too, and like it a lot!

Aren’t these rainbow sandals totes adorbz?! (lol) I got them at DSW, and the brand is Reef. Reef makes the comfiest sandals in the world.
I couldn’t find a source, but I loved this kitty wishing on stars.

Happy Things #22

Things that have made me happy lately!
On Record Store Day (April 19) I lined up at ZT Records early in the morning so I could grab this limited edition Scott Pilgrim Video Game Soundtrack on yellow vinyl! They only had two of them so I was super stoked to get one!
I found out through my friend Laura of Dallas Fan Girl that Veronica Taylor (who does the voice of Ash Ketchum) would be at her university signing autographs! This made me happy because it was a free event. Veronica’s Q&A panel was also very cool! She was a great speaker so definitely go see her if you ever have the opportunity.
McDonald’s had My Little Pony toys in their Happy Meals recently, and I was on a mission to collect them all! I am bummed they didn’t make an Apple Jack, though. Why leave her out? πŸ™
And as a heads up the next toy collection McDonald’s is going to have after the Spider-Man ones is Pokemon! Gotta catch em all!

For Easter my Mom and Dad got me mini cupcakes and the new Disney Magical World 3DS game. This game is SO fun! It’s a lot like Animal Crossing, but there isn’t any penalty if you miss a few days of playing. (Like the villagers don’t move out on ya without warning.)

Also on Easter, my mom surprised me with an original Katwise recycled sweater! These are hard to come by so I was bouncing off the walls when I saw it. The colors are so vibrant in person, too. I am already looking forward to the fall so I can wear this all the time!

There’s not a lot of empty wall space left in my room except for behind my bed. I was hoping to find or make a cool headboard, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon. So instead I got this awesome flag poster (it’s fabric-like) of Sailor Moon from Hot Topic!
And have you heard the news about Sailor Moon? You can watch it on Hulu now!!

There is a fancy schmancy local magazine called D Magazine that took photos of several cosplayers at Dallas Fan Days last October. They released it this month to help spread the word about the Dallas Comic Con. It blew my mind to see my Legolas is in this! I am so honored!

And here is a sleepy Pixie having happy kitty dreams! πŸ™‚

Happy Things #21

I just got back from Sci Fi Expo so I’ll be working on that post soon. For now here are lots of happy things to share with you! (Click on the photos to see them bigger.)
I have been working on decorating my room since I moved. Here is my makeup desk! I painted this myself and was using this in my salon. The moon mirror is from my room growing up that my parents thankfully kept. I love it!
I also love this colorful corner next to my bed. I think I might mount some shelves on that wall where the bulletin board is so I can put more toys and stuffed animals out. πŸ˜›

I am really late posting this but here’s a glimpse at some of the fun things I got for Christmas.

I found this Shredder Funko Pop! toy at the bookstore while at the mall. I would love to have all the turtles some day, too!

My hair is ridiculously thick and since I’ve been growing it out it’s really getting out of hand. I don’t think I’m ready to cut it yet so instead I bought some scrunchies to pull it up! These are so comfy to sleep in and add a pop of color to your outfit.

My mom taught me how to crochet when I was young, but I couldn’t find my crochet hook. So the other day I bought a new one and got some yarn! I learned how to make a flower from this YouTube video and attached a hair clip to the back. These Disney Princess inspired flowers and starfish rings are listed in my Etsy store

It was about this time last year that my dad and I began planning our trip to Disney World. So I think that’s why I am on such a Disney kick right now. We probably won’t be going back this year, so instead I am decking myself out in Disney gear. I got these awesome Little Mermaid leggings at Target for only $15! I even bought the movie on Blu-Ray and have already watched it twice.

When I found out one of my favorite tattoo artists Matt Van Cura was in town I knew I had to get something from him before he left. A couple years ago he tattooed my Harry Potter themed tattoo. It’s one of my absolute favorites. So I knew I could trust him to do an awesome job again. I got Ariel on my leg and am blown away by how amazing she came out. I love her so much!

This fun photo was taken at my friend Krystle Starr’s house. She and her fiancΓ© needed some people to help film a video for All-Con. I had so much fun dancing and being goofy with all my friends! I went back a couple days later dressed as Ramona Flowers to film some more. You can watch the video here

My dad got tickets to a Dallas Stars hockey game for Christmas! I was so excited to go with him. We had pretty great seats and ate a ton of food. We were even featured on the big screen for a few seconds! I was happy the Stars won that night, too!
Pixie has been just as silly as ever. I love her so much =^.^=
The second picture is an app called Comic Touch 2.0. Maybe I’ll make a Pixie comic series!

OMGLITZY: iPhone 5 Release Party!

iPhone 5 Release Party!

One of the many crazy qualities about me is that I enjoy going to midnight premieres and new releases! The iPhone 5 was released at 8 am Friday the 21st .. .. So it wasn’t technically a midnight release… but that’s when I got there!!!! Yep 12:00 am! I waited 8 hours with my friend, Tiffany, outside the mall to get into the Apple store. They let us in at about 6:30 and we were escorted to the front of the Apple store where we waited until 8:00. I was honestly surprised we were first in line.. Some people have been camping out for days for this phone in other states. And the other Apple stores in DFW had tents pitched, TVs, and couches brought in line! We were nervous we were in the wrong place, but after talking to numerous security guards we were sure we were first πŸ™‚ It was about 12:30 that another person decided to join us. Daryl was officially number 3! Next came Jonathan who was upgrading an OLD flip phone. We were proud of Jonathan! The number 5 spot went to Kevin .. he left his chair and we promised to hold his spot because he went to Whataburger for us and later to Starbucks. The top 5 was complete and many more people came to join us in line. Tiffany and I had our pictures taken and were interviewed by Apple employees for a promotional video of some sorts. It was a pretty big deal being first in line. I honestly wasn’t expecting that. I have waited for Apple products three other times and was never first. Now I feel like I’ll have to do it every time!!! πŸ˜›

The top 5! Left to right: Daryl, Kevin, Jonathan, Tiffany, and me

The line supposedly started wrapping around the corner and going out the front door. Over 200 people!

I had every option possible.. I was so nervous when they asked me what I wanted! Didn’t want to say the wrong thing, lol.

I got it!! It’s pretty cool, too. SO LIGHT WEIGHT!! Which is weird since the screen is larger! But it’s skinnier.. and so sleek. They didn’t have cases for it yet so I’ve been super careful not to drop it. I’ll be passing on my old iPhone 4 to my dad who is still sporting a really old Blackberry.
Hope to see all the new friends I made at the next release! See you in March for the next iPad!! LOL

OMGLITZY: Meeting George Takei

Meeting George Takei

A couple weeks ago the Dallas Comic & Pop Expo held a pre-event signing with George Takei! Madness Comics hosted it and they had a great turn out. George was in town to narrate the Sci-Fi Spectacular performance by the Fort Worth Symphony. I enjoyed hanging out with my friends Krystal and Sean as we browsed through the comics while we waited. George was very polite and excited to meet everyone.
This was my outfit for the event. My Nyan Cat hoodie is from ThinkGeek and my Batman leggings are from Hot Topic.

I didn’t mind waiting in line at Madness Comics because it is a really awesome comic book store. It’s huge! It used to be a Chuck E Cheese. Also, it was Friday so there was Friday Night Magic going on, lots of people to chat with and so many cool things to buy.

Dallas Comic & Pop Expo is a convention I’ve never been to. They were giving out 10% off ticket coupons, and I wish I had used it before it expired because Xander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer is going to be at this convention!! I might just have to try and go to meet him.

George chatted and shook hands with everyone. I was glad they allowed photography at the table so I could snap a few shots.
Here are my friends Krystal and Sean with George. This was the official photo Sean paid for.

Here I am with my freshly autographed Star Trek photo. I am excited to add this to my collection!
Another fun thing about this event was getting to meet the creator of Nyan Cat! Yes you read that correctly. It turns out Christopher Torres lives in the Dallas area! He was in line to meet George, saw me wearing my brightly colored jacket and came up to say hello. Then he gave us some Nyan Cat stickers and buttons! I don’t know if I was more excited to meet him or George Takei! lol

My own salon!

So I recently began working for myself as a hairstylist. We’ve only been open for a week and the salon already looks great. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s starting to come together and feel like home!
Move in day!
Trenette’s, Tiffany’s, and my station

A few days ago, my friend Kevin drove all the way from Austin to get his haircut! I am so glad he was able to visit the new salon. His hair looked awesome!

After his haircut, we adventured around downtown Dallas and tried a crepe for the first time. It was also my first time to try bubble tea. A strange drink but tasty!

I’ve definitely enjoyed the start of this new chapter in my career, and I am so thankful to have supportive friends and family!

  1. Oh wow – congratulations on the new salon! I love seeing people taking charge and putting their careers in their own hands. =) Your decor is just beautiful – love the brightly colored furnitures and mirror. Good luck!!

  2. This is such an exciting (ad)venture for you, and I wish you all the luck in the world. I hope that this is a terrific success. You've certainly put a lot of work and effort into it, and it shows. The salon is looking really great!

I know it can be a slow process to build up a steady stream of clients, but it sounds like you're off to a good start. I will definitely refer anyone that I can.

Also, bubble tea is super awesome! Glad you got to try some. I used to get some every time I went to get my hair cut, but they closed the place at that mall down. Luckily, there's an even better place not too far from home.

  3. I was wondering how it all started

OMGLITZY: Pixie’s Emergency Surgery

Pixie’s Emergency Surgery

If you’ve been following my tweets, then you know Pixie had to go to the emergency vet a few nights ago. She had to have surgery done and is hopefully going to be feeling a little better soon. However, the vet bills hit unexpectedly. I set up a GoFundMe with more info on what happened and a way for Pixie’s friends to send a few dollars her way.
Pixie and I appreciate any help. Even just happy thoughts!

I copied the story from the GoFundMe page here if you’d like to read it:

“Hello, my name is Anna and my best friend’s name is Pixie. Pixie has been my kitty since 2010 after I adopted her from the local humane society. I’m raising money to help pay for her most recent vet bill.
A few nights ago she was eating some of her kibble and suddenly started choking. She was pawing at her mouth and blood got all over her paws. Thankfully I was in the room and able to hold her and next thing I know a tooth falls on to the ground. One of her front canines (the big pointy ones) had broken. I am so  glad she didn’t continue to choke on it or swallow it, but I was worried why this happened and what else it meant was wrong. I immediately called her vet which gave me a number for the local emergency vet. I told them what happened and drove Pixie there. They were able to look at her right away and determined that it was because of her Tooth Resorption that her canine broke off. The doctor also said she had an absess and would need to have antibiotics and her surrounding teeth removed right away. I knew Pixie had tooth resorption because she has had teeth removed in the past. Her first surgery was a few years ago and she had several teeth taken out and this past January she had another 6 teeth removed. Unfortunately, the disease progressed a lot quicker this time.
I took Pixie to her vet the next morning and the doctor noticed right away how badly the teeth looked compared to how they were in January. (I had no idea or I would have taken her in sooner, but she was scheduled for her normal 1 year check up in just a few months.) Her vet said she would need surgery right away and gave us strong pain meds for her to take home in the meantime. She made it through the weekend but struggled to eat even the soft wet food. Her surgery was scheduled for today (Tuesday) morning. I dropped her off and kissed her on the head and said to be brave.
The vet called this afternoon to let me know that Pixie did very well during the surgery (she had to be put under for it) and was waking up. They removed her two top canines (the broken one still had it’s root in) and also two molars. She said Pixie will eventually need more removed as this disease will continue to progress and there’s no way to prevent it. But  for now they removed the worse and she would be feeling a lot better soon. The bad news is this time they found an Oronasal Fistula. It’s an abnormal opening between the oral and nasal cavities. They also found signs that her septum has eroded some. All of this is caused by the tooth Resorption. At this point, I am unclear how badly the Oronasal Fistula will be to treat. But the vet seemed hopeful that she would be feeling better now that she is on antibiotics.
I am raising money because this surgery blindsided me. Pixie is so strong and even the vet noticed how well she handles pain. But I had no idea Pixie needed this. Her trip to the emergency room was $200 and the surgery at her regular vet was $700. I have paid for two previous teeth surgeries in the past and also problems with her claws that required serious surgery as well. She’s been through a lot. And I can’t give up on her now.
Thank you for reading Pixie’s story. Thank you for any donation to help with her bills. Thank you for sending happy thoughts and well wishes. She sends a loud purr and snuggle your way.”

OMGLITZY: Sci Fi Expo 2013

Sci Fi Expo 2013

Let me start off by saying that Sci Fi Expo 2013 has been my favorite convention so far! I had an absolute blast!

One reason this convention was so awesome was because of the media guests. My mom was super stoked to meet all the Battlestar Galactica folks. I was equally excited for Edward James Olmos because of his role in the movie Stand and Deliver. I also loved him in Selena. So we got all the BSG autographs, Christopher Lloyd’s from Back to the Future, and I got a photo and autograph with Billy Boyd. The Q&A panels we attended were Kevin Sorbo, Battlestar Galactica, Back to the Future, and The Walking Dead. I just love listening to their stories from set and how they got into acting. It’s great that the audience members can ask questions, however, I wish people would come up with better questions sometimes haha …

I decided to dress up as Asajj Ventress shortly after Fan Days last October and got some of it done by December. I had some trouble attaching my custom made light saber hilts so I ended up buying Darth Maul’s light saber and add some PVC pipe and electrical tape to make it curve. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue to be her but after I got it all completed and did the make up I was really pleased with how it turned out. Originally I was going to be her both days, but when they announced that Billy Boyd from the Lord of the Rings would be there I immediately began working on an Arwen costume. That outfit is definitely the comfiest costume ever and probably my favorite look! The long hair, flowy dress, and handmade crown gave it a whimsical feeling. I’ll probably make another post that shows my progress on the crown. It took a couple of days to finish since I was literally just winging it. Pun intended! (it’s a butterfly crown, lol)

Now that I’ve been to quite a few conventions I’ve started making more and more friends. It’s so much fun meeting up with everyone to take photos and ask how you made certain pieces of your costume. Turns out I even liked the new red carpet they added to the event. When I first saw it on Friday when we picked up our wristbands I was like “ummm seriously this is it?” but after seeing it in action I think it’s a great way for people to snap a photo and not feel like they’re holding up a line or blocking an entrance. I still stopped for photos throughout the whole building, but the red carpet was a cool meeting area for all the cosplayers to get together.

After getting home and taking off all the makeup and putting comfy clothes on, I started searching for everyone’s photos. I found quite a few of me dressed as both characters! Saw a lot of Arwen I think because there weren’t as many people dressed up on Sunday. The highlight for me was being interviewed for the CBS Dallas News. I was also picked for the Jack FM Slideshow, Dallas Observer Slideshow Part One and Part Two (twice) and made it on the Top 15 Best Costumes list! I didn’t win the costume contest, but my good friends got best in show for their Jurassic Park creation!

Here are some shots of my costumes:

I will post a few of my pics after the cut below, but since there were so many (over 200!) I decided to upload them onto my Flickr account. So be sure and them out and let me know who’s costume you liked the most!

Click below for more!!!!!

Here are some of the cards I was given or picked up. The bottom left is my VIP Jump Card to get to the front of the autograph lines, and the bottom right is my blog card I made to give out!
Billy Boyd – “Pippin” – signed my photo! He asked me about the tattoo on my chest .. Guess I didn’t cover it up well enough lol πŸ˜›
Great Scott! Christopher Lloyd’s autograph!
This was the swag I picked up from the con. I also got a TON of posters from BigFanBoy‘s freebie room that you can see here.

FBI badges of Sam and Dean from Supernatural. I am going to a Supernatural convention later this year and might dress up as an FBI agent so I figured these would be cool to have πŸ™‚

This guy caught my eye at one of the tables in the dealers room. He was only $6 and sparkles!

Huge special thanks to Payton for this amazing fairy from the Legend of Zelda. We both have dressed up as Princess Zelda before so we share a major love for the game. I was overjoyed when she gave me this and can’t wait to display it next to my Skyward Sword harp!
You can view all my pics on my Flickr!
Which costume was your favorite?
Who do you think they will announce for Comic Con in May?
Any suggestions on what I should dress up as?
