iPhone 5 Release Party!

One of the many crazy qualities about me is that I enjoy going to midnight premieres and new releases! The iPhone 5 was released at 8 am Friday the 21st .. .. So it wasn’t technically a midnight release… but that’s when I got there!!!! Yep 12:00 am! I waited 8 hours with my friend, Tiffany, outside the mall to get into the Apple store. They let us in at about 6:30 and we were escorted to the front of the Apple store where we waited until 8:00. I was honestly surprised we were first in line.. Some people have been camping out for days for this phone in other states. And the other Apple stores in DFW had tents pitched, TVs, and couches brought in line! We were nervous we were in the wrong place, but after talking to numerous security guards we were sure we were first 🙂 It was about 12:30 that another person decided to join us. Daryl was officially number 3! Next came Jonathan who was upgrading an OLD flip phone. We were proud of Jonathan! The number 5 spot went to Kevin .. he left his chair and we promised to hold his spot because he went to Whataburger for us and later to Starbucks. The top 5 was complete and many more people came to join us in line. Tiffany and I had our pictures taken and were interviewed by Apple employees for a promotional video of some sorts. It was a pretty big deal being first in line. I honestly wasn’t expecting that. I have waited for Apple products three other times and was never first. Now I feel like I’ll have to do it every time!!! 😛

The top 5! Left to right: Daryl, Kevin, Jonathan, Tiffany, and me

The line supposedly started wrapping around the corner and going out the front door. Over 200 people!

I had every option possible.. I was so nervous when they asked me what I wanted! Didn’t want to say the wrong thing, lol.

I got it!! It’s pretty cool, too. SO LIGHT WEIGHT!! Which is weird since the screen is larger! But it’s skinnier.. and so sleek. They didn’t have cases for it yet so I’ve been super careful not to drop it. I’ll be passing on my old iPhone 4 to my dad who is still sporting a really old Blackberry.
Hope to see all the new friends I made at the next release! See you in March for the next iPad!! LOL

Sports Weekend!

This past weekend I had a sporty time with my Dad by attending a baseball AND soccer game! First up was the Frisco Rough Riders. They are just one level below the Texas Rangers so the turn out is usually pretty good for these guys. I’ve wanted to go to a game all season and with it coming to an end soon we needed to act fast. Unfortunately it turned out to be a rather rainy and cold evening, although I may have enjoyed that more than sweating profusely and getting sunburned. I think we left around the 5th inning because the rain wouldn’t let up but we listened to the game on the radio at home. We won 5-1!

I just love ordering nachos! They are my favorite sport food. These were pretty good but the ones at the soccer game were better.

That is Mike Napoli batting for the Rough Riders. He is the catcher for the Texas Rangers and was out for an injury for a few weeks.

This is Deuce and Daisy being funny with a (fake) dumbbell.. Deuce had a hard time picking it up and of course Daisy just throws it over her shoulder. So cute!
~
So the next night we went to watch a soccer game! The weather was a lot better this time. The FC Dallas Stadium is one of my absolute favorite sport arenas. It’s really clean and the layout is very accommodating. I haven’t always been a soccer fan, but when an MLS team plays just down the street from you you can’t help but feel the spirit! Not to mention the cutest player, Brek Shea, is on their team!

Half time was fun because they had these two cute dogs bouncing soccer balls off their noses to try and score goals! The actual soccer game itself was still 0-0 so half time was almost more entertaining 😛

Then in the 96 minute (they were given 6 extra minutes) FC Dallas player Julian de Guzman hit an amazing goal and we won the game 1-0!!!! It was an epic finale!

Sew happy!

This is just a random post of some random things in my head! Today I was able to get my hair into mini hair buns.. this is especially exciting because that means my hair growwwwing! I have never ever had hair this long (not since the 5th grade!) so it’s kind of a big deal 😀

Also, you will find that Pixie Kitty made her way into the photo .. Today I found her most favorite toy in the whole wide world.. and when I showed it to her she immediately knew what it was! She LOVES powder puffs! The little round pads girls use for make up. Jingles loved them, too, but Pixie is what started it. I’ve bought new ones, but nothing is the same as the original. I just hope she doesn’t lose it again.

My sewing machine is out because my mom and I have been working on my Zelda dress. I will eventually make a big blog post about it. The dress itself is near completion, but all the accessories I’ve ordered still haven’t shipped. I sure hope they come soon!

Lately, I’ve been playing a lot of computer games – GW2, EQ2, and even tried League of Legends. I looked into different positions in the video and computer game industry as a possible job, but I am just not sure I would be good at it. I am skillful with computers, but I don’t know much about programming. A possible goal is working in PR for a gaming company. Maybe I’d be good at assisting in gaming events. This all stems from my recent love of conventions. I’m just hooked now! I want to attend all of them. The Fall MLG Championships will be coming to Dallas soon, and I enjoyed reading these posts about PAX Prime in Seattle: Geeky Glamorous – Best of PAX2012 and Miss Magitek – PAX Prime. I can see myself working or promoting at events like that. So maybe I won’t be a computer or video game programmer, but I love the idea of being involved in the gaming world!

Having said all that, don’t get the wrong impression that I am unhappy as a hair stylist! I love my job! When I am actually doing someone’s hair I feel very confident and peaceful, and of course,  joyous to see their reaction to their new look! One thing I feel I can not change, however, is control over when I have clients. I have been gloriously busy for having just started out on my own, but I still have some downtime that I wish was filled with new clients. I’ve been brainstorming ideas on how to advertise and market myself and it’s time I implement them. Another stressful situation within my job is when I have a client no show, cancel last minute or arrive late. It really affects my whole day. I usually only go up to the salon if I have someone scheduled. So if you don’t show up then you wasted my time. I don’t get paid just to sit up there. Also, if you’re late and expect me to still take you then what do you think happens to my next clients? If they are on time for their appointment they shouldn’t have to wait because someone else was inconsiderate. *SIGH* Sorry for my RANT, but last week I had a couple of my clients do this and it just stresses me out. Some salons charge you for being late or for not canceling with enough notice.. but as an independent booth renter I am just not sure how to initiate such a rule. How do you charge someone? Do you take their credit card information when they make the appointment? I need to look into this.

Anyway, I really have been quite happy lately, with the exception of my little rant there. It’s been a nice September, and I have so much to look forward to. The weather has finally stopped melting faces and fall feels just around the corner. I can’t wait to wear boots and scarves and jackets! I may even go by Starbucks and order a hot chocolate  ^.^

Have a nice day!!

Salon Make-Over Already?!

My station at work was really cute.. but it wasn’t very practical. The drawers in the dresser were not functional. I could barely get in and out of it. So now I’ve learned that when buying from an antique store always check to make sure it works 🙂
I went back to the Frisco Mercantile quite a few times looking for a replacement. After lots of measuring I finally decided on this desk. It is in great condition and most importantly the drawers open, hehe. I’m not a big fan of green, though, so I decided to give painting a try. I had never done this before so I looked on Pinterest and asked my parents for tips.
Basically, I sanded it down by hand a little bit then used a liquid sander. It was easy to just rub on with an old t-shirt. That acted as a primer and since I was going to paint it black I didn’t care too much about getting all the green off. I only did one coat of black paint. It looked fabulous! So I left that alone and did one coat of pink paint on the drawers. I liked that some of the green would show through – it looked like I distressed it and put a black glaze on it, but I didn’t – just one coat of pink was enough! The handles had a bit of green paint on them, too, so all I did was spray paint them gold. After waiting a few days I painted a clear coat on and waited a few more days before moving it into the salon.

I also bought a different mirror while at the Frisco Mercantile. The gold frilly mirror matched Trenette’s on the left and felt more exquisite. And I added some cute vintage pictures to the wall from AllPosters.com. I am really happy with how it turned out! I love using my station at work now – it’s functional and pretty!

Happy Things #10

It’s been a Happy September so far ~ I can’t believe how fast time is going. Not much going on this month, but gosh next month is going to be fun! Some things I have to look forward to is the Zelda Symphony, the Texas Renaissance Festival in Houston, seeing my brother and sis-in-law while in Houston, and going to the Dallas Fan Days convention with Kevin. This weekend I will get to see a Rough Riders baseball game and then an FC Dallas soccer game with my dad! I’m not a huge sports person, but baseball has always been my favorite. And I’m really looking forward to the weather being nice and eating nachos. 🙂
Here are some Happy Photos:
I love to find acorns (with their hats on) to give as gifts to my mom.

After placing my favorite Beanie Babies on the mantle, Pixie decided she wanted to be one, too!

I took this pic before I dyed my hair pink obviously. So glad it’s getting long!
My excitement for all things Zelda recently even spread to the piano. I can’t play anything, but I can poke a few keys. I learned a part of Saria’s Song. I’ll be dressing up as Skyward Sword Zelda for the next convention! I need to post pics of my progress on my costume.

The other day I picked up the last copy at my local GameStop of Guild Wars 2. I’ve always been really attached to EverQuest 2, and I have a hard time playing other games because of that. I tried Diablo III recently and never got pass level 8. But GW2 has been really fun!! It has beautiful graphics, easy gameplay, interesting story lines, and there’s always helpful players nearby. My only complaint would be the random overflow transfers. I guess it happens when too many players are on one server. There’s been times when Kevin and I aren’t in the same world so we can’t play together until one of us gets transferred. So I still prefer EQ2, but it’s been nice to play something different for a change.
That’s all for now! I got to sleep in a little today, have some hair cuts to do later, then it’s raid night on EQ2 .. Going to be a nice Wednesday 😛

August 2012 Playlist

August’s playlist consisted of a lot of July’s .. but I added a few more:
Kreayshawn – Go Hard
I’m not big on curse words.. they don’t bother me much, but I sound silly when I say them. However, I find myself singing along to this song. And the video is so cute and colorful! 😛

Taylor Swift – We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
I am a huuuge Taylor Swift fan and while I enjoy her country songs I find her more of a pop artist. This new single is especially pop so I am interested how her new album will sound.
The Gaslight Anthem – Blue Dahlia
I’m very happy that The Gaslight Anthem has gained quite a bit of popularity with their newest album. They are a talented band with some good old rock n roll sounds. Unfortunately there is no real video for this song yet, but I’m a sucker for the slower ballads.

Pinkie Pie Hair!

Recently had a funny time coloring my hair.. I bleached out the purple .. no big deal… mixed up some fuchsia and red together and applied it to my scalp first about 2 inches down the hair .. well then I ran out of color. No big deal – I’ll mix some more. Couldn’t find my other bottle of fuchsia ANYWHERE! I’m searching and looking and digging through the pantry and purses (lol) .. no luck. So I call my mom in a panic because only half my hair is done and God bless her she went to Hot Topic 30 mins before closing and got me 4 extra bottles.. Won’t be running out next time! What a scary mistake for a hair stylist to make!! 😛

Super sad to see this pic because I recently broke my heart shaped glasses in half 🙁

AnimeFest 2012: Part 2

Here are some AnimeFest 2012 photos I didn’t take but have found by searching the web like the pony stalker I am. Trying to give correct credit!! But let me know if I missed any 🙂 I will update as I find them.
Did you check out AnimeFest Part 1?

And all the following pics are from Kevin’s album with his fancy camera. Sorry if some are repeats from my previous post .. but his pics were much better. 🙂

Thankfulness 2013

Today is Thanksgiving here in the US… So happy day to all that celebrate it! Since I have a some international readers, I’m calling this post “Thankfulness” instead so it can be enjoyed by all.
Dictionary.com defines thankful as “feeling or expressing gratitude.” Whether it be for an object, a person, an idea, a place .. or really anything. Too often I find that I don’t acknowledge how grateful I am for things in my life. So here are a few wonderful things I am truly thankful for!

 My family!
I am incredibly close to my parents and family! My mom helps me put on nearly every cosplay and even attends conventions with me sometimes. And my dad is usually the one that is willing to drive us so we don’t have to worry about traffic and parking. They support my crazy interests and are always there if I need them. They are so cool and do so much for me and I am super duper thankful for them!
My kitty!
And of course my little Pixie Doodle is a part of my family, too. She gives me the best hugs and purrs and always snuggles with me at night. She has been in my lap the whole time I typed this, too! I am so grateful for the love she’s shown me!
My computer!
I decided to share this ridiculous picture because this is basically what I do all the time. And I am so thankful for my life! I love that I grew up with an interest in computers and video games. I enjoy being curled up in my chair with my headphones on listening to music. It’s my little part of the world where I feel most at home.

Books!
I wanted to show a photo of my whole bookshelf, but I’ve already packed it up! (I am in the process of moving.) And I couldn’t find a pic anywhere on my computer. But here’s a pic of The Hunger Games (since I just saw Catching Fire and LOVED it!) which is one of my favorite books. I have so many other favorites like Harry Potter, Twilight, The Mortal Instruments, etc and I am very thankful for the chance to read interesting stories and let my imagination take flight.

Disney World!
One truly remarkable adventure I was able to go on was visiting Disney World. I’ve considered moving to Florida just so I could go all the time. I wasn’t really sure if I would ever get the chance to visit, though, and my family made it happen. I was able to meet all my favorite characters and live out a dream. And due to some major flight delays, my dad and I were actually able to go again with some flight vouchers! This is a trip I will never forget, and I’m so thankful I was able to experience it.
The chance to be a chameleon!
I am definitely thankful for the opportunity to become anyone I want to be. Cosplay has been such a joyful way for me to express myself. I’m thankful I have a lifestyle that allows me to change my hair color, create costumes, and get the chance to meet new people. I am still quite a newbie at cosplaying, but I’ve really become attached the creativity it’s brought to my life!
:+:+:+:+:
So those are just a few of the wonderful things I am thankful for! I am looking forward to eating some yummy food and spending Thanksgiving with my family.
What are you thankful for?

The Vampire Diaries: Dallas Convention 2013

Back in August I was able to attend The Vampire Diaries Convention put on by Creation Entertainment! I feel bad it took me this long to post about it because I had a total blast!
There were so many cast members from the show there.  I was glad my ticket package included a lot of autographs.
A cool treat at the convention was seeing Ian Somehalder’s brother Bob. He runs a really cool company called Built of Barnwood (BOB).. There were so many wonderful things for sale and you could even meet Bob and get his signature!
Although this convention was smaller than most, they still had a nice display of goodies to buy.

They had a small costume contest, and most of the girls were dressed as Elena or Katherine. I decided if I had dressed up I would have been Matt in his football uniform lol

During the auction, I bid on this really cool bag that was from the 2011 San Diego Comic Con!

The money from the auction went to charity, and I think it’s cool to have this hanging in my room 🙂

I bought a t-shirt at the convention and wore it with my lapis lazuli necklace my mom had bought me!

She also bought me a lapis lazuli ring, and I ordered Damon’s ring from eBay.
This was the Q&A panel for Torrey DeVitto and Kat Graham who play Dr. Meredith Fell and Bonnie Bennett in the show. Torrey DeVitto is also in Pretty Little Liars.
This is a pic of Trent Ford on stage. I was SOOO excited to meet him because he is in one of my favorite movies How To Deal. I love that movie SO much, and I have watched it so many times that my DVD skips now. He had a small role in the Vampire Diaries a few seasons ago, but when I saw him announced for the convention I got really excited!!

This was the bead I made for Trent Ford. He collects beads for his necklace when he travels to new places. Since this was his first convention and I’m a huge fan, I thought it would be cool to give it as a gift 🙂 He was really grateful!

Charlie Bewley was also there, and I was excited to meet him because he was part of the Volturi in Twilight.
This was my outfit for the second day! I wanted to look cute since this was the day I’d get Damon’s autograph!

Ian Somerhalder (Damon) was the big guest of the show.. Paul Wesley (Stefan) canceled his appearance last minute *cry* .. I had met Ian before so I was looking forward to seeing Paul Wesley. Oh well. I’ll take Damon if I have to! 🙂
Here are all the autographs I got! I already had Damon’s and Caroline’s on my poster from a few years ago. So I got Damon’s again since it was included in my ticket package. I also got Bonney’s, Jeremy’s and Matt’s autograph on my poster! Then I went ahead and had Charlie Bewley sign my Twilight book. And honestly, I was probably most excited to meet Trent Ford. He was so cool.
:+:+:+:+:
I also went to a Supernatural convention so I will be sure to post an update about that soon!

Happy Things #19

Here are some things that have made me happy:
Pixie Doodle being a pretty kitty!
And here she is helping me play Animal Crossing.
Marshal is one of the funniest characters on Animal Crossing! I just love him.
My friend Natalie shared this adorable photo of a kitty named Cuddles!! He was in for a teeth cleaning 🙂

I went to the local pumpkin patch to pick up one for the holidays. Last year my pumpkin didn’t even last a week.. Hopefully this one makes it to Thanksgiving!

They had cute little bunnies and ducklings there, too!

I finally signed up for Pottermore, and I was sorted into Gryffindor! I couldn’t believe it! I also was given a larch wand with phoenix feather core! I tried brewing a potion and it was really difficult. But the rest of the website sooo cool.

I’ve always wanted a Friday the 13th tattoo and couldn’t believe I didn’t already have one. I’d been meaning to post this because I got it in September but just kept forgetting! A lot of tattoo shops do specials on this day so I got this one for only $20!
Well I am guessing that a lot of people dressed up as Princess Peach for Halloween because my crown tutorial post had nearly 2000 hits in October! A few readers sent me pics of their finished crowns, too, which I think is just the coolest thing. 🙂 I decided to add a template to the post to help people make it, too.
And this meme was just too cute not to share!

Anything making you extra happy this week?

Movie Review – Thor: The Dark World

Theatrical release poster; Walt Disney Studios
As you can tell from my previous post, I was pretty excited to go watch the second installment of Thor in theaters. I had made a winged headband to wear as I cheered on Thor and Loki in their adventures! I will keep this short and sweet and spoiler free!
I actually had not seen the first Thor movie until a few days ago. Luckily, my nearby Redbox had it to rent. So I made some popcorn and checked it out. I knew I was an instant fan of Thor after watching The Avengers. He and Captain America were my favorites due to their stunning good looks and gentlemanlike qualities. (Hey, they’re my type ok!) But truthfully, Thor appears to me as a true hero. He’s big, buff, kind, and genuinely looking out for the good of his people. And his role in Thor: The Dark World confirmed all of that for me.
Marvel.com
First, the movie has an overall comedic feel. Which I loved! I laughed out loud at so many different parts. And I never felt like the lines came off as cheesy. Many of the funniest moments weren’t even spoken lines (like where Thor puts his hammer at the apartment) .. That was hilarious! I’m glad they included cameos of other characters, too. That was a nice touch to get a laugh out and also a glimpse at some of our other favorite super heroes.
Marvel.com
Second, the movie had a great message. I feel like Thor and Loki’s relationship has excellent balance. This makes the movie more of a family film. It shows that a family may be complicated, but love doesn’t disappear, no matter how evil you might be. I especially enjoyed Rene Russo’s performance as Frigga. Her scenes were so moving and heartfelt that even Loki feels it. And I liked that I understood what I just watched. I didn’t leave the theater wondering why someone did something or what was that meant for. It was an enjoyable story to follow.
Marvel.com
Finally, the action was just right. I’m comparing this to how I felt after Man of Steel. Superman straight up destroyed everything. And I had a hard time enjoying the mass chaos. I’m all for some good fight scenes, but too much and I’m a little turned off. The scenes in Asgard had a magical feel to them with the use of a more medieval touch. I enjoyed seeing the close up punches rather than who can throw the other into the farthest building.
So to conclude, I would probably say the two Thor movies combined have made it one of my favorite super hero story lines. The actors and actresses meshed well, the special effects brought another world to life, and the subtle love story resonated with me. I’d say this movie has something for just about everyone!

Tutorial: Thor Inspired Wing Headband

Art by Oliver Coipel
A few days ago, I decided to rent the first Thor movie since Thor: The Dark World comes out this weekend! I have totally fallen in love with Chris Hemsworth. But also Natalie Portman! She’s so cute in the movie. I am excited to watch the second movie tomorrow so tonight I was googling Thor crafts and came across this awesome headband tutorial by Doodle Craft. I decided right away I had to make it!
I made my wings smaller than Doodle Craft’s tutorial so they could be worn more often. But it would be fun to remake this in different wing shapes and sizes.
I printed out a wing shape that I liked and traced it onto some sheet foam.

Normally I would gesso the sheet foam so it would become thicker and more sturdy, but tonight I wanted this done quick so I just decided to spray paint the wings silver.

Then I outlined the wings with gold paint and used hair spray to add some glitter.

Because I am a glitzy Thor girl!
Attach your wings with hot glue to a skinny headband and you’re done!

Pixie insisted on a hug during my photo shoot.

Aww kitty!

This was a super quick and cheap DIY project!

Birthday Wish List 2013

My birthday is this month so I decided to make a list of some little (and mostly big) wishes I have!
“Message from Home” by Jeremiah Ketner
I have had my eye on this painting for quite some time now. The movie Tangled holds a magical place in my heart (I even have a post about it!), and this painting captures the essence of the story beautifully. I entered a Facebook contest on Jeremiah Ketner’s page to try and win this painting, but it just wasn’t written in the stars for me. So for now it stays on my ~wish list~..
King’s Body Jewelry has these beautiful Pink Howlite stone plugs for only $15! I wear a size 25mm (or 1 inch) plug in my ears, and they are usually super crazy expensive. Most of the time you’ll see me wearing Opalite plugs, but I really want these pink ones! 😛
My desktop computer that I use for eveerrrrything was purchased in 2007. I’ve only upgraded the operating system once when my hard-drive decided to crash three years ago. Honestly, most everything runs just fine still (knock on wood!) But I’m a tech geek, and I love to have the newest models. I still can’t decide if I should just upgrade to the latest OS, switch to a laptop, or get the bigger desktop. So that’s why I still have what I have 😛
Although I haven’t had any professional training with Adobe products, I find myself constantly using Photoshop for blog stuff, photos, and just for fun. I would love learn how to use Illustrator as well, and begin expanding my digital art skills. It costs quite a bit so this will probably stay on my ~wish list~ for awhile especially since I already have Photoshop.
When I first started dying my hair funky colors, I used Specials Effects from Hot Topic. They no longer carry that brand (they switched to RAW which I use now). But Special Effects has a wider range of colors, and the quality is amazing. I can’t find it in stores anywhere so you have to purchase them online now. I would love to have one of each color! 😛
I really really don’t need another 3DS XL .. but it’s so hard not to love this special edition one! I definitely plan on picking up the new game at least.

This replica of Thorin’s key looks uber magical as a pendent for a necklace. I would rock this all the time. It’d be especially cool to wear to a Renaissance faire. ThinkGeek offers it for $30 which is a little steep for me, but it says it’s an officially licensed collectible and comes in a “handsome” gift box!
:+:+:+:+:
So those are my crazy wishes for my birthday this year! According to my age I should probably be asking for more “grown up” things, but that will never happen! 😛 I will be a kid for life!

Glitzy Geek Update

You may have noticed my blog posts haven’t been quite as frequent, but have no fear! I am still here! I figured since several of you might come by to check this I’d give a little update on what’s up in my glitzy geeky life.
My blog began as a means for me to just express what was going on in my day to day life or stuff I shopped for and what not.. Then it blossomed into this exciting cosplay and craft tutorial hub! In 2014, I really went on a lot of great adventures to comic cons, concerts and other events. I feel like my blog focused on a lot of those things which is super cool because it’s so fun to go back and look at those posts.
This year, I plan to slow down a little bit on the cosplay lifestyle. I definitely would love to keep making things and dressing up, but I’d like to find a focus for my time and money somewhere new. That doesn’t mean I won’t make something or attend a comic con – because I definitely will! I love doing that! I just think I might try some new directions here and there.
The fun part is I don’t even know what that means! 😀 I actually don’t have much planned at the moment which is great because it leaves the door open for all sorts of opportunities. I have ideas in my head for blog posts that might be a tad more about some life experiences I’ve had (like being a cosplay guest, being a business owner, making friends on the internet) .. stuff like that! I just feel bad not posting a post with a ton of photos. I mean I’ve read blogger tips and most of them say don’t post a big wall of text. I don’t want my blog to completely change, but I do want to add some sort of new material to it.
So anyway that’s just some things that have been on my mind at the start of this new year. I do have a post coming soon all about PAX South in San Antonio and also a craft tutorial for my Rapunzel crown. As well as new giveaway prizes! Definitely come back soon for all those updates and more! I’m still here, I’m still geekin’ out, and I still love reading all your comments and getting to know all of you.
You can find me post pretty often on my Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, too!
Hugs to all!

Life Update: Houston, Pixie, and Guild Wars 2!

Hey all! I know it’s been too long since I updated! Sorry about that! I think of all these cool posts in my head when I’m not at the computer but when I sit down to type the words don’t seem to flow. I’ve just been busy with real life things lately.
As I have mentioned before, I moved from Dallas to Houston a few months ago. I mostly moved here for family reasons but also because I thought I had some good leads on jobs. Unfortunately it just hasn’t worked out in my favor. I applied at over 20 places and none of them were meant to be. I was at a salon for a little bit but it’s hours did not work with my schedule. I’m spending time now focusing on my family and dealing with some other personal things before I dive back into the job search.
I also found out this week that Pixie is going to need surgery again. She has tooth resorption and last fall she had a serious accident where her top canine broke off due to decay and she developed a fistula. She had most of her teeth extracted except for her two bottom canines and a couple teeth in the back. I’ve been taking her to see a vet about once a month to make sure it doesn’t get worse. When I moved to Houston, the new vet I visited barely looked in her mouth and never called me back. I didn’t want to go back to him so I found a different one this week and really liked her a lot. This vet looked at Pixie’s mouth very closely and decided it would be in Pixie’s best interest to have all her remaining teeth extracted. Things have progressed rather rapidly again. Her gums are very inflamed and seem to be rejecting her bottom canines. The teeth are literally being “pushed up and out of her gums” and are likely to break off soon if not taken care of. It’s also very painful. The good news is she doesn’t have any infections yet since I caught it early this time! Pixie is scheduled to have her surgery this coming Monday, and we are all hopeful that this will finally put an end to her gum issues.
In some other super good awesome news – I got a partnership with Guild Wars 2 and ArenaNet!!! This means if you use my links to buy Heart of Thorns or try the free to play version a small portion will directly support me!! This was a dream come true and has been a complete honor to be a part of. I have been able to meet amazing people in this community and that has honestly been the greatest reward. The game has some very exciting updates coming soon with Living World Season 3 being launched on July 26. So it’s a great time to check it out!
I do plan to eventually apply for a Twitch subscribe button again. My numbers have increased since the last time I applied, but now the problem is I don’t have a set streaming schedule. I don’t really have time to be consistent during the week besides Monday nights. I hope to change this as soon as I can, but of course family needs to come first. So I appreciate everyone that does tune in whenever I am live!
More random things I’ve done lately can be seen on my Instagram or Twitter. I went to the Houston Aquarium for my brother’s birthday, checked out my first Houston comic con – Comicpalooza, saw a Houston Astros baseball game and have actually been getting some exercise with PokemonGo. Dealing with anxiety and stress can be hard but I am thankful for all the good moments I’ve had. 🙂
Thank you all that have kept in touch with me on social media! Hope you have a good week!!
XOXO,
Glitzy

OMGLITZY: ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

I was nominated by my friend Ashleigh and Chris to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge! To be honest, I didn’t know much about ALS before these videos had gone viral. It’s been enjoyable watching celebrities and friends get drenched, but more importantly I have learned about a disease that needs awareness. Please visit ALSA.ORG to learn more and donate if you can (I did!) This article by Bo Stern also gave me a lot of insight on ALS and what this ice bucket movement is doing for families.

I’ve nominated my friends Natalie Green, Jeremy of Cosplay With Me, and Cazz of Nerd Burger to take the challenge! 🙂

  1. Awesome challenge!! A fellow blogger nominated me. ^_^ Definitely heading to the site to learn about the cause.

  2. Awesome! The company I work for does lots of charity work for ALS so we're all doing the challenge (and donating!)! My department got iced yesterday! 🙂

  3. Thumbs up for doing it!!! I'm also glad you wrote about it, added links, and gave information. I've seen a lot of people just say they are doing this but don't offer information! =)

  4. Love it! Thanks for spreading the awareness 🙂

OMGLITZY: Concert Overload

Concert Overload

So I am a little behind on blogging about all the concerts I got to see recently! Last one I blogged about was Muse. But I got to go to three more since then! First up was EdgeFest!
This was my outfit for EdgeFest. Since it is an outdoor festival I was ready for it to be hot.
And boy was it hot! I got a pretty bad sunburn.
This is the view from my seat. I don’t stand in the crowd anymore because it gets too sweaty and gross.
This guy sat in front of me and people kept asking for photos with him. I finally asked my neighbor and she said he is the lead singer for Youngblood Hawke!
I was most excited to see The Gaslight Anthem. They are definitely one of my all time favorite bands ever. I saw them once in a smaller venue and was excited to see them again at EdgeFest. Unfortunately, they didn’t play too well. Or maybe they did, but I couldn’t hear them at all. I was bummed. But do check out their music anyway, because they really are a great band!

The second band I was most excited to see was Paramore! I am a really big fan of theirs. I also got to see them a long time ago with Jimmy Eat World. That was an amazing show. And this concert was great, too. They played awesome and I already knew all the words to the songs from their new album!

Next concert was…..

Jimmy Buffett! You wouldn’t believe it from these pictures but it was literally THE NEXT WEEKEND after EdgeFest. IT WAS SO COLD! That’s Texas weather for ya, I guess. I looked stupid all bundled up when everyone around me was wearing hula skirts and coconut bras, but when the sun went down it was freezing cold! Then everyone wished they had bundled up like me.

This place was packed. It was also at the same venue as EdgeFest.

Jimmy Buffett was on my Dad’s list of concerts he has always wanted to see. I am so glad I got to go with him!

On the way back to our car I found a lonely coconut bra. So I had to take it home with me!

I think it looks great 😀
And the next concert was…….

The Killers! This band was on my Mom’s list! It was at the Verizon Theatre. I had never been to a concert there before, and I was really impressed with the place.

I found this awesome couch in the lounge room, too!

We had great seats and the sound was amazing. The vibe of this show was incredible. And the lead singer was SO CUTE.

During the show they shot confetti at the crowd. On Twitter, the band said that somewhere in the confetti are two “golden tickets” … If you find one bring it to the sound guy in the back and you get to win an AWESOME prize!

We looked and looked but didn’t find a golden ticket. It was still so much fun!
:+:+:+:+:+:+:
I don’t have any more concerts planned at the moment. Someday I would like to see No Doubt, Florence + The Machine, and Mumford & Sons. I like music that I can sing along with 🙂
What band would you like to see in concert?

  1. I'd like to see Deathcab for Cutie live. But really the list is WAY to long to try and post up.

  2. Deftones are coming to South Africa in August and I am beside myself with excitement! There is also rumour that Biffy Clyro will be here towards the end of the year so yay for that! They are both bands on my must see list:)

  3. lolol the coconut bra cracked me up

    ReplyDelete

  4. Green Day is my favorite Live band. I have seen them 12 times! I finally saw U2 back in 2009.
I still need to see The Damned, Bruce Springsteen, and English Beat.
Luckily growing up I go to see a lot of the punk and ska bands I loved!
I still haven't seen Social Distortion, or, Brian Setzer.

    LOL on the coconut bra!

  5. You have such a wide range of music tastes. I am downloading the gaslight anthem to have a listen. Love your coconut bra. You are hilarious.

  6. You've been to some awesome concerts this year! I'm so jealous that you got to see AWOLNATION at EdgeFest. Bummer about Gaslight Anthem. It's always really frustrating when a band you love puts on a show that's disappointing.

There are always new bands coming along that I want to see (AWOLNATION!), but I'm slowly getting around to seeing old bands from my must-see list. Rammstein was the last must-see band that I got to check off the list… such a great show too! I think System of the Down is currently at the top of my list… hopefully someday they'll do another tour through the US.

  7. Some nice shows. Edgefest always has a great lineup. The radio station festival here in Houston, Buzzfest, usually has a less than stellar lineup. It was great once a few years ago though. I've always wanted to see HIM, Green Day, and The Who. Those are the top three that I haven't gotten to see yet, that I still hope to one day.

So far this year though, I've seen a handful of country shows, as well as Limp Bizkit, Device, Fall Out Boy, Clutch, Powerman 5000, and Eve 6. I still have, Everclear, Filter, Kid Rock, Mayhem Fest, Fall out Boy (again), Panic at the Disco, and maybe Justin Timberlake, if I can get tickets, to come. It's been a great year for shows this year. One of the best in recent memory.

  8. I saw Paramore this April in Phoenix and they were amazing! This girl down in the front passed out and Hayley stopped the show to make sure she got the proper care. They really care about their fans, you can really see it. And, I got to see No Doubt last November at the Gibson in LA. I've seen Gwen perform twice as a solo act, but had never seen her with No Doubt, so it was beyond incredible to see them together. I'm looking forward to seeing New Kids on the Block in Vegas this July and I wanted to see Justin Timberlake, but I couldn't afford tickets 🙁

Disney World 2012

I kind of joked with my dad that when he retired we would celebrate at Disney World. But we made it happen!! He helped make a dream come true for me, and I was able to cross something off my bucket list. He earned a true vacation after working way too hard for the railroad, and I’m secretly a 12 year old in a 26 year old’s body. I’m a Disney princess through and through. We stayed at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa close to the Magic Kingdom and even made a trip to visit Universal Studios so I could check out the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I can’t really pick my favorite moment .. they all were so amazing! But seeing Hogwarts and eating at the Three Broomsticks was definitely cool. I also really enjoyed the parades and firework shows at the Magic Kingdom. My favorite rides were the Tower of Terror and Aerosmith’s Rockin’ Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios. Man, just reminiscing makes me want to go back again! Here are a few photo highlights of the trip! 🙂

  1. Congrats on scratching an item off your bucket list. What a trip. I think I'm the only one who has never been. Holla next time you go.

  2. You got to meet Stitch! That's perfect!

Disney World is such fun! I'm glad to hear you had a good time! It certainly looks like you did. I can't wait to go check out the Harry Potter park sometime.

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #5

What is your name?
Vulkaane

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?
Or how long have you been playing?
I started playing in August 2013

What made you want to try the game?
A few of my friends and I were looking into new MMOS to play and we had some recommendations on trying out Guild Wars 2.

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?
Elementalist because it’s different than what most people are used to. The different type of play style really caught my attention and I love every minute of it.

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?
I always usually check out the Gem Store first. Love seeing what new things Arena Net has added to the game. Then I usually go to my guild hall and hang out with a few guildies at the Guild Hall bar and talk about what world boss we will kill first. 😛

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
I have bought Heart of Thorns. Honestly I love it. The New Profession is really fun, the maps are HUGE and I really love gliding around everywhere. I also like how the events are more immersive in Heart of Thorns.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?
First goal is to finish map completion on my Revenant.
Second goal is to make Nevermore and Astralaria.

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
My Guild is Apocalyptic Armageddon(AARM) on Tarnished Coast Server. We are 5 guilds on a single server and we participate in every aspect of GW2 (PvE,PvP,WvW etc.).

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?
I would like to see Super Adventure Box return to GW2 and maybe even Dragon Bash.

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
I would say Lion’s Arch because all the trading that goes along in there. Lion’s Arch has a lot of different aspects that most cities would not have. And let’s face it, a giant wedding ceremony spot on a big rock is pretty awesome 🙂

Happy Things #15

June makes me happy! So do all these things:
I found this beautiful shot of my Sailor Venus cosplay on Instagram taken by @victoriahavens! I remember sitting down to take a break and having a few people ask for my photo like that. The scenery at this hotel was really pretty 🙂

June 7 was National Donut Day .. So my dad surprised me with some Dunkin Donuts at work! Yum!

I posted this on my Instagram (@glitzygeekgirl) for the Tarina Tarantino contest.. You just had to show off some of your TT bling. I didn’t win, but it was fun putting some of my favorite sparkly pieces on.

It wouldn’t be a Happy Things post without the happiest kitty of all!
Oh Pixie you are so lazy!
This is a *before* picture showing what my hair looks like when I blow dry it without a brush. It’s a huge frizzy mess!
So this is a much happier *after* picture! Thank goodness for flat irons!

And one day I used my large curling iron. It melted part of my countertop, but did a really nice job on my hair :p

This was my outfit for the Man of Steel midnight showing.

I got to see it in 3D! The movie was really good! I can’t wait for the sequel. Henry Cavill is a perfect Superman!

Baseball is my favorite sport, and I love going to the local stadium to support our team!!

I am super happy to announce one of the cosplays I am working on – Legolas! After watching The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug trailer a million times, I just knew I had to create Legolas. I’d been wanting to for awhile and now I am finally doing it! I already got the leaf brooch and a bow in the mail, too! I will post some progress pictures once I get more done.

I wore this outfit a few days ago to work. It didn’t exactly match, but I’m kinda quirky like that. It’s my Bazinga! shirt, a black dress, and blue jeans … Quirky, huh!

Today I picked up my free piece of chocolate from Godiva. You get a free piece each month when you become a member! This flavor was Mint Chocolate Chip and it was AMAZING!

While at the mall, I found this cutie! Her name of Muffin! She has a clip on her so I can attach her to my backpack. I also spent a quarter in a toy machine hoping I’d get the pink die and I did! Woot!
My next happy thing makes me SO happy! It’s Animal Crossing: New Leaf! This is for the Nintendo 3DS. I got the XL version that has a larger screen. This game IS SO MUCH FUN!! Even Pixie loves it!
If you haven’t played this before, then be warned! It’s addicting! You get to be the mayor of your own town. It’s fun because there is ALWAYS something to do. You can decorate, talk to friends, go shopping, play mini games, fish, catch bugs.. and I am sure so much more that I haven’t got to yet! Today I even went by Best Buy and downloaded the free present available through their WiFi!
My friend code is 3840-6126-6273 if you would like to add me! Be sure to leave your friend code in the comments so I can add you back!
:+:+:+:+:+:
This post was longer than I intended, but so much has made me happy lately!
What has put a smile on your face?

  2. I CAN NOT WAIT to see your Legolas cospaly. Your going to look so cool. I can't wait to see how you make it all. And that pic of you as the sailor is so pretty 🙂

  3. Love the instashot! My husband and I met at the Anatole and spend our anniversary there every year. It's so beautiful and I love seeing all the amazing cosplay photos from A-KON in it's gorgeous scenery.

Also, EEEEEE ROUGH RIDERS! We got to go to a game earlier this season. I'm hoping we can make it to a Rangers game before the summer is through.

And finally HOBBIT!! Definitely hitting it up in IMAX 3D at Midnight on opening day. I can't wait!
