Ikkicon 2012

Literally just got back from my road trip to Austin, TX for Ikkicon and was so excited about it that I just had to blog right away! It was very unplanned and spur of the moment so I didn’t have time to make a new cosplay. This was my first time to Ikkicon and although the size of the venue (like the dealer’s room and the panels) was smaller the amount of people was tremendous! As soon as I walked into the lobby I was blown away by how many people were dressed up in cosplay. Everyone had a wig on or ears or SOMETHING! It was so cool to see! I was most excited to meet up with several friends like Eric (we’ve been friends since high school!) and his girlfriend Marianne, Mia Moore who is my new BBFF (best blogger friend forever), Jonathan (who I met at AnimeFest), and Payton (also from AnimeFest and Fan Days) … So check out the pics and enjoy the anime overload!

Mia as Ramona Flowers & me as Rainbow Dash
My favorite part was the gaming room.

Jonathan as Doctor Whooves

Steampunk Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy
1st Place winners of the cosplay contest
From the movie 9
I think he won Best in Show in the cosplay contest.

Marianne as Seras Victoria from Hellsing

Payton as Dark Zelda.. And that was a great Link but I don’t know his name

What’s better than one Rainbow Dash? Two!

Jack Skellington and Zero
Sunday I decided to dress up as a Sailor Moon fan πŸ˜‰
This was the swag I picked up.. Luna and Artemis plushes, some cute bows, and a free sticker from Cosplay in America – really cool site and super nice guy!

And this was my view from my hotel room! Austin is pretty cool!

Holiday Wish List

I know it’s kinda late to be posting a holiday wishlist with the world ending tomorrow and Christmas on Tuesday, but I figured it’s better late than never πŸ™‚
Kit Kat Clock from Fred Flare, $54

Mini Starfish Pin from Sparkle Cove, $19
Unicorn Pendant Necklace from Betsey Johnson (sold out now.. doh!)
Legend of Zelda Shield Replica from ThinkGeek, $69.99
Carly Tufted Headboard from Target, $349.99
SmartCat Ultimate Cat Scratching Post from Petsmart, $69.99 (for Pixie of course)
Well those are my more expensive and totally unneeded items on my wish list.
But a girl can dream right!
What are some things on your wish list?

Intergalactic Planetary

Do you ever wake up with a song in your head? Singing or humming a tune that’s super random? I always wonder if it’s some sign that it MUST be the first song I listen to or something bad will happen. I mean why else would “Intergalactic” by the Beastie Boys be on my mind? So I googled the lyrics and put it first on my playlist.  Interesting and cute song πŸ˜›

“If you try to knock me you’ll get mocked
I’ll stir fry you in my wok
Your knees’ll start shaking and your fingers pop
Like a pinch on the neck of Mr. Spock”

So anyone doing something fun before the end of the world tomorrow?
I am booked all evening at the salon so my clients can go out in style! πŸ˜€

Pink Shelves & Hobby Lobby Brackets

As you saw in my previous post about my new salon, I have some bright pink shelves up on the wall!
Here’s a quick little tutorial on how I made them. πŸ™‚
This was a fun and sorta easy project if you have time to make shelves from scratch! I have seen this project on Pinterest and also saw my friend make some. I say “sorta easy” because it was a little hard to screw the brackets into the wall and make sure everything was level. But other than that it was a breeze!
I got these brackets at Hobby Lobby for only $6.99.
Sometimes you can catch them 50%, too!
I also got some screws from Lowe’s. I got two different sizes.. Smaller ones for going into the board and longer ones to go into the wall.
We later had to use an anchor in the wall to make sure they were secure.
I used a poplar board from Lowe’s.. You can get different lengths.
And sand it first before you paint it.

I bought paint from Hobby Lobby appropriately named “Party Pink” for $5.99.
Use a satin varnish for a beautiful shine.

A finished board! Be sure to do both sides since you will see the underneath.
I was so nervous Pixie was going to jump on the boards. Then we’d have little pink paw prints everywhere. Wait.. that would have been kinda cute! πŸ˜€

After trying it both ways, it was easier to screw the brackets into the board first and then the wall.

Tada! What do you think? I sure love my new shelves! I am thinking about making a long one to go over my bed since I can’t find a good headboard. Have you ever made something totally from scratch?

Hair by Anna Lee

As some of you may know – I do hair! I was rooming with some friends for awhile but a month or so ago I got my own salon room! It’s a huge accomplishment, and I am so proud to have my own business. Decorating the room was a lot of fun, and I have another post about how I made the pink shelves with the brackets on the wall. I am so thankful my clients have followed me to my new salon. So if you need your hair done and you live around the Dallas area come see me!
You can “Like” me on Facebook, too!

Review: Denny’s The Hobbit Menu!

In honor of The Hobbit being released this week and with inspiration from GeekyGlamorous's post, I decided to give the special Hobbit menu at Denny's a try!

I was pretty excited about this and was quoting LoTR to my dad on the way. He had no idea what I was talking about, but he was eager to eat some food regardless. πŸ™‚

When we sat down they brought us some samples of the Radagast's Red Velvet Pancake Puppies. And holy cow they were good! We told the waitress we were here just for the Hobbit menu and she laughed and gave us some time to take pics πŸ˜›

I eventually decided on the Shire Sausage Skillet with scrambled eggs. My dad ordered the Slam so we could try the Pumpkin Patch Pancakes, Seed Cake French Toast, and Shire Sausage. We were feeling breakfast to say the least!

The food was pretty good.. my sausage wasn't the best but the eggs and veggies were delicious. Dad's french toast was awesome and we just HAD to order some of the Red Velvet Pancake Puppies to take home with us. The coolest part were the free trading cards they give out if you order a Hobbit meal. Our waitress gave us 3 packs!

My 27th Birthday

So last month I turned another year older… I have finally reached that part in my life where I might start lying about my age πŸ˜‰  .. Oh well!! I still act like a kid so I figured I’d celebrate like one.. My family and I ate at Gatti Town and had pizza! It’s definitely my favorite food ever. Afterwards, we played some games where I won a cute little dinosaur figure. Later, we opened some presents, and I got some Juicy Couture perfume, MLP collection toys, a Betsy Johnson and Kate Spade necklace and the coolest leopard hat! Then for dessert I had a strawberry cupcake. It was such a great birthday!! Thanks to my family for being so awesome πŸ™‚

Pixie Kitty Photo Spam

I have done a few cool things lately.. Like my birthday, Black Friday shopping, redecorate my salon (again!), see Breaking Dawn 2’s premiere, eat at Denny’s for The Hobbit meals, and paint some craft projects.. But since I don’t have those posts typed up YET…. Here are some cute pics of Pixie!! πŸ™‚
She loves to help during raids on EQ2.. I bet she’s thinking “Kill the add, cancel the detriment, joust!”
(my guildies will understand, hehe)

Just chillin’ πŸ˜‰

“Sacks make me hyper!”

Pixie and her BFF Rainbow Dash

Big yawn!

These might be my most favorite pics of Pixie! She looks like a prairie dog! She was giving herself a bath and heard something. Haha!
I call this Pixie’s “pink puff” .. She loves to sit by me when I am at the computer, and I found this cute pink cat bed at Petsmart.
Looking so pretty on my bed πŸ™‚

Check out those eyes!! Pascal from Tangled had been hanging out on the back of the couch watching us.

Then Pascal photobombed us!! Promise I didn’t even plan this πŸ˜›

March Thoughts

Another month has passed already?! It sure seems like 2016 is zipping by! I would have loved to have filmed March vlog, but there just hasn’t been enough time in the day to do so. I hope you don’t mind another blog post then! :o)

March actually was a lot happier than February. I was recovering from a lot of defeats and have taken time to reflect on how to improve myself. I made a list of some memorable moments from March so let’s dive in!

Dyed hair – One of the most exciting changes this month was dying my hair back to pink. Last October I shaved my head and have been letting it grow without any bleach or dye. It was getting about an inch or so long and was just a boring dark brown color. Since I don’t really have a plan on what to do with it, I decided to dye it pink again! Even though I still wear wigs from time to time, I enjoy having my colorful ‘do back.

Gaming – Let’s start with EQ Next. This is a game that was announced back when I attended SOE Live several years ago. I’ve always been a big Ever Quest fan and was really excited for EQ Next. Well sadly, they announced that the game will no longer be happening. It broke my heart to read about it. I may need to revisit EQ2 soon. In happier news, I’ve been playing a lot of Dragon Mania Legends which is a mobile app game that is very easy and addicting. In March, they released a new “Clans” feature where you can group with friends to earn new rewards. It’s one of the only mobile games I’ve actually stuck with now for a nearly year! Finally let’s get into a recap of Guild Wars 2. This month I decided to make the legendary shield The Flameseeker Prophecies. I had almost all the materials for it and really liked the design so I just went for it. A few days later the devs announced that they were postponing the release of new legendary weapons indefinitely! What!! So that means all this time waiting for the new weapons that they promised with the expansion won’t be happening after all. I admit I was pretty bummed about this news. I would have made the sword Bolt instead of the shield, but I was waiting for the new sword to come out. I guess that won’t happen so now I will be making Bolt next. Some good things that happened in GW2 was the new raid wing, the return of the Bunny Ears and the big giveaway party I hosted on my stream. I gave away lots of prizes and had a fun time in Lions Arch with my friends and guildies. I’ll be hosting a giveaway on the last Friday of every month so if you missed it you can join us for the next one!

Moving – You can read the whole story on this blog post. But the TLDR version is I made a trip down to Houston to look for an apartment and find a new job. I found a very nice place that would be available mid April so I made the jump and signed a lease! I’m nervous and a little sad to be leaving Dallas, but this will be a good opportunity for me. It will be fun to explore a new place and also get back in to the beauty industry for my career. So I am looking forward to the move. It’s just been very hectic now trying to organize, clean, and pack my things in preparation.

Divergent – I saw Allegiant in theaters this month. Here’s my mini review of the new movie: I’ve been a big fan of the books and really loved the first movie. The second movie was okay but seemed too heavy on CGI. I was hoping the 3rd installment of the series would redeem itself but it left me going home really unhappy. It’s like they totally forgot about telling a good story and focused all of their money and energy on visual effects again. Also, Tris just seemed very unlike herself and lost all of her character development. Many of the scenes and lines came off cheesy and nearly made me laugh (and not in a good way.) The only thing I enjoyed about the movie was Four. The actor played his role well and the character made smart decisions and looked like a badass. I enjoyed his moments more than any others, but it still wasn’t enough to get me excited for the last movie due next year.

Easter – It was a little weird having Easter so early. Isn’t it usually in April? My family and I kept things pretty laid back and decided to order pizza for the weekend. I also got some cute cards in the mail and had a great day!

Store – While cleaning out my room and closet I found tons of nice purses, jewelry and decor that I just no longer use -or never used to begin with – and decided to open a Storenvy! I have had 2 sales so far and hope that my other items will find a new home soon. The money will help go towards my move, too! omglitzy.storenvy.com

Pixie update – This actually happened today rather than in March but since it’s fresh on my mind I wanted to fill you in! I took Pixie in for her 2 month check up on the state of her gums and teeth and the vet said things are still looking good! I’m glad the few teeth she has left are doing alright so she won’t need any removed any time soon. I let the vet know that I am moving to Houston and it was a little sad to say goodbye. They’ve been a great clinic to go to and have really taken good care of Pixie. I hope I can find another nice vet in Houston.
That’s about all I can think of for March! Overall I would say it was a very good month. ^.^

Wig Review! Kamo Wig from Amazon

Hey everyone! I made my first “review video” for my YouTube channel!!! It’s all about a wig I have been wearing a lot lately that I purchased from Amazon. As you may know, I own and wear a lot of wigs. I’ve been meaning to make reviews for them so I’m really excited to finally share this with you!
The Kamo 26″ Layered Wig was purchased from Amazon by ME! I was not paid or asked to make this review. I was looking for a natural wig to wear on my Twitch streams and came across it on Amazon. It had decent reviews and for only $16.99 I figured it was worth the try. Turns out it’s one of my all time favorite wigs now! I loved it so much I bought two – one to leave long and another to trim a little shorter. I’ve been wearing it a lot lately and it looks and feels very natural. Please check out my video for more details and a better look at it! This wig would be great for cosplayers or anyone that is on a budget and looking for a nice blonde wig.

Halloween 2014

You might think that a cosplayer would go all out on Halloween with an elaborate costume. Well that is usually not the case. Haha! I would say most of my cosplay friends actually enjoy buying either a store bought costume or wearing something more simple. For me, I have been dying to wear this Korilakkuma Kigurumi I bought at AKon. I dressed it up with my pink wavy wig from Gothic Lolita Wigs!

Most of the day I played Guild Wars 2. If only all the people I grouped with that day knew what I was wearing behind the computer! lol
Even my character in game was dressed up for the Halloween festivities.

My family and I ordered pizza. Yum! My favorite!

Finally, that evening we were ready to hand out the candy bags my mom and I made. Each bag had several candy bars and crackers and other sweets in them.

I had a lot of fun giving out candy to the kiddos! One parent asked if I was a polar bear. But most of the kids said they liked my outfit. There was a block party going on down our street so once that ended all the kids came to the door at once. It kinda bummed me out because they were rushing and I was rushing and I didn’t get to see their costumes very well. I do remember three kids were dressed as crayons. I think they were my favorite!

Healthy Hair Color Tips: Bleaching and Funky Colors

A question I am asked a lot is “How do you keep your hair so healthy?” Well let me first admit that my hair has been through a lot! But being a hairstylist that’s quite normal. We love to change our hair color often! It can take a toll on the strength and integrity of your hair strands. So over the years I’ve figured out what works best for *my* hair. I’m hoping this post will help others that might need some hair care advice, but remember everyone’s hair is different. I’ve been doing hair professionally since 2007, and I’ve seen firsthand the effects various dyes and products can do on hair. So definitely talk to your stylist for a professional opinion because they will know best!
For my own hair, I bleach the new growth (roots) with Wella’s Blondor and 40 volume developer. If I need to strip the color out of the ends of my hair I will use a lower volume that is not as strong. 40 volume on the ends of your hair is a bad idea! Sometimes I’ll wet my ends and shampoo it lightly then lather in some 40 vol bleach. That dilutes it a little and won’t be as harsh on your hair.
I typically let bleach sit on my hair for about 30 minutes under a shower cap. If you plan on doing a bright, funky color then you need your hair as light as possible and may need to sit longer. The best way to explain this is to picture a white piece of paper and different color crayons. The colors will be bright on the white paper, but if you took a darker piece of paper the colors won’t be as vibrant.
Once my hair is light enough, I rinse the bleach out with cold water (yes cold cold) and shampoo it with It’s A 10 Keratin shampoo. When coloring, I don’t use conditioner afterwards. This way my hair is more porous and the funky color will last longer.
Then I gently blowdry my hair until it’s completely dry and plan what color I want to do next. Lately I’ve been doing pastels. To make a pastel dye I squeeze a bunch of conditioner into a bowl. (I use any cheap conditioner since I use a lot of it. Just make sure it’s white. I used a blue one once and it didn’t lighten my dye.) Add some drops of color to your conditioner and stir. If it’s too light then keep adding more color until you like it. Here are some brands of color I use:
When you like the color in your bowl, start putting it on your hair. Always start at your scalp and work down the hair strand. Be sure to take small sections and completely saturate the hair. Funky colors will last longer if you really soak the hair in it. Then I put on another shower cap and let it sit for at least an hour. The longer the better! Most funky colors are demi-permanent, which means they don’t have any ammonia in them. They are not as harmful to your hair. Plus most of your concoction is conditioner and letting it sit on your hair for 1 hour+ is awesome. Your hair is so happy right now.
Once it’s time to rinse I use cold cold water again and let it run until it looks clear in the sink. I don’t shampoo or add any more conditioner to it. I just gently towel dry it and then let it air dry quite bit.
When I’m ready to blow dry I first add a quarter size amount of It’s A 10 Keratin Serum. The keratin helps rebuild the strength in your hair after the bleaching. Then I blow dry with a vent brush and flat iron as normal. After that I add another dime size amount of It’s A 10 Keratin Serum to give it a smooth and shiny finish.
It’s important not to shampoo your hair too often. I probably only wash my hair once a week. The natural oils in your hair are great moisturizers for dryness. I swear I am not endorsed by It’s A 10, but it’s also what I shampoo and condition with in-between coloring! I used a lot of products at the salon I worked at, and it’s the one I liked most. A more affordable alternative is the TRESemme Anti-Breakage collection. I’ve witnessed it work very well!
Finally, be sure to get regular trims to take care of any dead-ends, and try to avoid too much sun damage which can fade hair color and dry it out.
I hope this was helpful! Let me know! πŸ™‚

Happy Things #23

Here are some things that have put a smile on my face lately!! πŸ™‚
I ordered the purple macaron pillow from Squishables! It’s a lot bigger than I expected and is great for lounging around while reading or watching TV.
Pixie had a snuggle session with Pascal. They’re best of buds, aww!

I play Guild Wars 2 on and off again and laughed when I met this cute froggie the other day.
(For you, Ser Frog!)
A couple weeks ago I dyed my hair all over purple. There’s some pics on my Instagram (@glitzygeekgirl), but I thought it looked a little too dark. So I bleached it out and went with a pastel pink/purple! I added some more tone to it since this pic, too, and like it a lot!

Aren’t these rainbow sandals totes adorbz?! (lol) I got them at DSW, and the brand is Reef. Reef makes the comfiest sandals in the world.
I couldn’t find a source, but I loved this kitty wishing on stars.

What has made you happy lately?

Short Hair and Loving it

Having long hair was a goal of mine for many years. I wanted it long like a princess! But in reality I almost always wore up in a ponytail to get it out of my face. The length also made it more difficult for me to color it. So I’ve been toying with the idea to go back short. One night after I washed it I grabbed the scissors and just cut the tail off. My philosophy on this was if I “ruin” the length then I’ll *have* to cut it short! No turning back! I am SO glad I did it. It feels so much better to have it short and thinned out now. It’s also so easy to wear wigs for my cosplays. And the best part was it cut my drying time in half! I’m pretty happy with pink right now, but I want to experiment with more colors soon. πŸ™‚
I cut it all myself but I don’t recommend trying this at home! I have been doing my own hair for over 10 years.
And here’s a picture of the color I used. It’s RAW’s Fuschia Fatale mixed with a lot of conditioner to lighten it some. I let it sit for an hour or so on my head then rinse with cool water! πŸ™‚

New Hair! Hot Pink & Half Shaved

A few weeks ago I talked myself into cutting my hair into a pixie cut! I just have A LOT of hair and it’s ridiculously thick and wavy. I have had it short before but I wanted to go extra short this time. Another reason I want a pixie cut is because I love to color my hair frequently. With the length it takes WAY too long and too much hair dye.
So I grabbed my clippers (or buzzers) and a 4 guard (size of the attachment) and went to town! I wanted to keep the top kinda spiky so I piled it up into a pony tail to cut later and shaved the sides first.

Well after I did the sides I kinda looked at it and liked it! I thought.. Hey I might as well rock this for a day or two before I cut it all off.
I think the real reason I liked it is because it reminded me of Sokka from Avatar: The Last Airbender πŸ˜€

If I was going to leave the cut alone then I knew I still had a big job ahead to color it. This was after one bleaching and kinda looks like a My Little Pony tail!

Since it was still purple and kinda yellowy I decided to bleach it again so I could have a total change.

I mixed some RAW Fuchsia Fatale with a lot of conditioner and applied it to dry hair. Then I let it sit on my hair for an hour.

After an hour I rinsed it with COLD water and let it air dry since it’d been through a lot! This is what it looks like down .. it’s like you can’t even tell I shaved half of it off!

And here is what it looks like straight.

Most of the time I wear it up in a pony tail .. Like Sokka! πŸ˜€
It’s already grown out a bit now.. So one of these days soon I will be coloring it again. I know I will eventually cut it into a short pixie, but for now this is fun and different.

My Favorite Movies

Movies are so expensive these days.. So I don’t really go to the theater much. If I go to one then I must REALLY like it! I do enjoy going to midnight showings at theaters. It’s fun to see the “super fans” all dressed up and waiting in line for hours with me. Most of my favorite movies are either chick flicks or fantasy. Although there’s one major exception to that.. I’m sure you’ll notice when you read it. πŸ™‚

In no particular order:

How To  Deal
-I remember seeing this in the theater a couple of times in high school. It really portrays everything life can throw at you (marriage, divorce, break ups, friendships, pregnancy, death, etc) but in simple terms so as not to make the movie feel too serious. I love the music in it as well.

The Departed
-This is my curve ball I mentioned earlier. It’s definitely not a chick flick.. and no way near fantasy. It’s more of a drug lord movie (lol) .. So I’m not sure why I love it so much. Maybe Leonardo Di Caprio has something to do with it? Or the use of the Dropkick Murphy’s songs? πŸ˜›

Empire Records
-This move is just all around COOL. Each character is so different and interesting. They all have great qualities and then major problems at the same time. One of my favorite things to do as a kid was go to a CD store. We had one called Hastings back home, and it’s still a place I like just hanging out in. This movie also has one of my favorite quotes – “Damn the man!”

Tangled
-Probably the newest movie on my list (besides Hunger Games). I am a big big big Disney girl. I love all the princesses. And until Tangled my favorite Disney movies were Aladdin and Hercules. Tangled was beautifully animated. And Mandy Moore as the voice of Rapunzel is such a joy! Her songs really touch me. I’m a just a sappy romantic I guess.

Sweet November
-In this film the main character is very odd. She knows she’s a little out there.. and she uses it to help random strangers that are trapped in a business-focused world find their inner freedom. I relate to Charlize Theron’s character.. I live in my own world, too. I cry every time I watch it. And I just love the song “Only Time” by Enya.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World
-Based off the comics by Bryan Lee O’Malley, this adaptation is humorous, game-like, and greatly casted! As seen in my Comic Con post, I am a big fan of Ramona Flowers. I laugh out loud at certain scenes and also enjoyed the movie’s soundtrack. Check out “Black Sheep” by Metric.

The Goonies
-There really is nothing better than a good 80’s movie. There are so many good quotes from this. I actually have “Slick Shoes” tattooed on my ankles. The cast totally rocked and the plot is interesting throughout. I enjoy watching this when I’m in need of something simple but adventurous. No need for crazy CGI.. just good a ole pirate treasure hunt.

Stardust
-When I rented Stardust I wasn’t sure if it was going to be any good. I had read a cool quote from the movie online, but also read bad reviews. So I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. It’s a beautiful fantasy kingdom, and the cast was very funny at times (Robert De Niro in drag!)  I just wish they played up the love story a little more. Here’s the quote I liked, A philosopher once asked, “Are we human because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are human?” Pointless, really… “Do the stars gaze back?” Now *that’s* a question.”

Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter, Twilight & The Hunger Games
-I grouped these together because they are all a series. Although I haven’t read LoTR, the others were all favorite books of mine. So naturally I love the movies! Any time LoTR is on tv you bet I am watching it. Although it’s long, I can’t help but be mesmerized by the enchanting story. I’ll agree that Twilight has some bad acting in it. But I’m still a Twi-hard. πŸ˜› I also have loved Harry Potter since the first book was released. So following it for all these years has given me some magical memories. I am new to The Hunger Games.. but I was instantly hooked after reading the 3 books in 2 days. The movie was great in my opinion. The cast did a wonderful job, and I am looking forward to the next movies.

Honorable mentions:
The Princess Bride, Enchanted, 27 Dresses, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Labyrinth, Ever After, Underworld, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, & Dirty Dancing

After typing this I realized I like quite a few movies! I really really want to watch The Princess Bride and Tangled now. I’m sure I left out some good ones, too.
What is your all time favorite movie? Can you recommend any movies I need to see?

    1. Amazing list!! A few that stood out for me were Romeo and Juliet, One Hour Photo, Saw, Love Actually, Catch Me If You Can, and The Breakfast Club … Those would definitely be on my list, too! Except I would have the new R&J cause I love Leo sooo much πŸ™‚ And you're right – he shouldn't have died in Titanic. MythBusters even said so!!!

  5. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is really high on my list too! Good pick.

I wouldn't count it as one of my favorite movies, but I enjoyed Stardust a lot. Way more than I expected to. I only recently realized that it was based on a book (which I haven't read) written by Neil Gaiman. He writes some really great stories.

I'm not very good at making favorites lists. I'd definitely include Lord of the Rings. The Kill Bill movies are on the list. Fight Club is a favorite (I'll give a shoutout to another great modern author here, Chuck Palahniuk).

Tree of Life is a movie that I saw recently, not really knowing what to expect from it. I was mesmerized and ultimately blown away by it. I think I'm obligated to include it on my list of favorite movies just because I've never had a movie experience like it before. It's really hard to explain, but I loved it.

The Breakfast Club is my favorite 80s movie, so it earns a spot on the list.

    And finally, The Big Lebowski.

I'm sure I'm overlooking plenty of other great movies that I love, but these are the ones that readily come to mind.

    1. Worst movie: Howard the Duck. More favorites, A Few Good Men, As Good As It Gets, Predator, Alien, War Games, Glory, The Devil Wears Prada (clothes are nice), Shallow Grave is just plain strange.

I will have to check out Tree of Life.

  8. What are your feelings for The Matrix and then in turn the whole trilogy?

  9. There was a band called Slick Shoes too which was a late 90's early 00's punk(ish) band. They were big Goonies fans (Check out the album "Wake Up Screaming").
My FAVES: The Goonies, Empire Records (we watched this like once a week in college), Bridget Jones' Diary (my weirdly placed chick flick), The Boondock Saints, and, The Dark Knight and more recently Wreck it Ralph (I was actually quite miffed at how good this was), Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland, Howl's Moving Castle, The Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi(original theatrical release…none of the touch ups from Lucas on both of these); Heavyweights; South Pacific; Sound of Music; Amelie; Casper; Ghost World; Hello Dolly; Kill Bill Volume 1; Love Actually; Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels; The Great Muppet Caper; Newsies;Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist; Rushmore; Serenity; SLC Punk; Tokyo Godfathers; Snatch…
    Ok…I think that's a safe list to end with…

Pinterest Favs

Here are a few of my favorite pins/likes I’ve added to my Pinterest recently! Anyone else have a Pinterest board? I am totally addicted to it! It’s so handy and is such a great way to organize things.
I loved this idea! It’s Sailor Moon Link!
And this is kinda Sailor Moon-ish, too. I want to rock some hair buns!
This is Kat Von D .. I think she made mixing up your eyeshadows look pretty cool.

Loved this print by Simone Legno! They are kinda pricey, but I might just have to order one someday.
Does this dress remind anyone else of Rainbow Dash’s Gala dress? I love it!

And finally, these just made my mouth water! I’ve recently discovered that I love avocados! And these avocado egg rolls with creamy cilantro ranch dip would be great for a movie night. Here’s the recipe!
:+:+:+:+:
Post your Pinterest link in a comment so I can follow!

  2. Really good pins, but I haven't a Pinterest board.

Sailor Moon and Link… ★Sailor Link or Linky Moon ★ That's just awesome. ♥ XD

I'm in love with this pink-white hair buns. It looks so cute! I hope I can make it with my hair, too.

  3. The Pink hair one is like a edgy version of Sailor ChibiMoon! And the dress doe look like Dash's gala dress!

  4. Pinterest is THE place to find great ideas or just dream. One mistake I made was not setting up my boards better. Now there is no way I could ever put them into more relevant categories. Plus, sometimes one pic could be on diff boards: hair/makeup/accessories.

Your boards are amazing. Wanna clean up my board? LOL

OMGLITZY: Review: Gothic Lolita Wigs

Review: Gothic Lolita Wigs

The latest wig I added to my collection is the Classic Wavy in Deep Pink by Gothic Lolita Wigs. Most of my wigs are from Arda, but I loved the length and light curl this wig offered. I have never ordered from GLW so let me tell you a little about it!
This is how it came shipped. It came in TWO days!! I was so impressed with how fast their shipping was. It also came with a wig cap, which I think is great!! I lose mine all the time!

I gently took it out of the package to show you how they had stored it. It wasn’t tangled or flattened at all.

This was after I ran my fingers through it to loosen the curls.

The inside of the wig has adjustable straps and 3 attached combs to help it stay secure while you wear it. Arda has the straps but not these combs. I loved this addition! Someone asked if these would fit larger heads, and I think it definitely will. Arda’s might be a little bigger, but I didn’t think this GLW wig was too snug at all.

This is me wearing it in my bathroom lighting. The pink is gorgeous!! Though it is called “deep pink” it is definitely more pastel in color.

I teased the bangs just slightly so they would stay to the side better. The hair strands stayed smooth and don’t have a fake shiny look to them.

After combing it with my wig brush the curls had a lot of bounce to them, too! I love the length and fullness of this wig.
Here is a picture of it in the sunlight!
So overall I give Gothic Lolita Wigs an A+! The price is just right for this quality and how fast it shipped. I will definitely be ordering more from them!
Do you have a favorite wig company?

  1. Arda is my go-to when it comes to wigs [cos I feared my head would have been too fat for overseas' wigs..LOL] but I have used eBay a couple times and have been happy with the products from sellers there. πŸ™‚

  2. It looks so pretty!! I like how it doesn't have that ultra shiny look to it.. you could fool people! lol I need that wig in all of the colors! XD

  3. I usually order my wigs from ebay shops. The price is low and the quality okay (for the price). Sometimes I'm frustrated, sometimes very happy.
I've known GLW before but have never ordered one. The shipping costs to germany are not that low and there are also the taxes… -.- I hate it!!! Our betterment tax here is 19% so… I'd have to pay 19% additional to the TOTAL price.. (wig+shipping). This sucks so much. So… I guess I will still order my future wigs from ebay shops in GB.. :

Anyway! A nice wig and I love the bangs! (:

  4. I love that it comes with the combs already installed! That's a nice little perk! It looks really nice on you too! I normally use Arda or Epic!

  7. Oh wow, I have been looking for a wig just like that for ages, that one looks just gorgeous. I wonder what the shipping time would be to Australia. I am always so worried about buying things like wigs and shoes online, because you can never tell if they are going to be a good fit/colour/quality until you have them. Shipping is so expensive from the US (or anywhere) to Aus, and there is nothing more disappointing than spending a fortune on something that turns out to be terrible quality. So thank you for the review πŸ™‚ I might have to get me one of their wigs.

OMGLITZY: SOE Live 2013

SOE Live 2013

Last week I was lucky enough to attend SOE Live for the first time! I had won a ticket to the convention for the video I entered in this contest. So I started saving up some money for a flight out to Las Vegas! This event was a big deal for me because I love to play EverQuest 2. I have played it for 6 years and met so many friends online. For the last couple years I have been raiding with a guild called Brimstone. This group of people have become a second family to me. We raid 3 nights a week, and I hardly ever miss raid night. So I spend a lot of time with these great people, and it was a real treat to get to meet them in person! We all clicked right away and had so much to talk about. In all there were about 12 of us from our group there. We made new friends, too, and I even sat next to a Planetside 2 player on the plane!

One of the coolest things that happened was getting interviewed by Destructoid! We were waiting in line to get our badges when two of my guild members and I got picked to be filmed for the video. You can see us at 0:26 and 0:43!
http://youtu.be/tgo3Em1J2Aw

Since I could probably talk about my trip forever .. I decided to make a Top Ten List of my favorite moments at SOE Live. These are in no particular order.. because each one was so much fun!

1. Meeting My Guild Members

I am so thankful I had the chance to meet everyone. You guys truly are incredibly awesome, and I miss y’all so much. I can’t wait until next SOE Live when we can all hang out again πŸ™‚  I have to give a shout to Cylaa (Diane) for being my necro sister! We both play the same class in EQ2 and we ended up having so much in common. We shared a pizza and talked about our cats! How perfect!! πŸ™‚ Also, shout out to Banguk (Kyle) for driving me around Las Vegas. It was SO much fun exploring the strip with you and thank you for putting up with all the times I asked you to take my picture lol ….  And to Astijia (Greg) and Herminee (Jackie) for taking such good care of me.. so grateful to have you pick me up/drop me off at the airport and provide us all with the Taj Mahal to crash at πŸ™‚

2. The Reveal of EverQuest Next
This was really cool to witness.. I got goosebumps a few times watching the keynote and attending the panels. There’s some major upgrades and unique changes coming to this game. My guild leader (Astijia) typed up a summary that I think covered a lot of it:
Keypoints: Destructible environment, multiclassing, parkour style toon running, VERY improved world graphics πŸ™‚ planetside 2 engine, and – mobs no longer have static spawns…. The pop in the world, and wander until they find conditions they like. (the orc camps don’t just pop every 15 minutes, if they are harassed, they pack up and move to a new spot…. Piss off the orcs too many times and the king sends an invasion force.
Downsides: Need a mainframe to run it – but that remains to be seen, toons are very cartoony – very wowlike. The devs said they were trying to appeal to a broader audience, we will see how that goes. We all got beta invites, so scouting will be done.
The world is topside, with 2 subterranean levels; you can literally stop where you are and dig down to see what you may find….”
3. Seeing the “Pawn Stars” Shop

Something super fun I got to see was the store where they film the TV show “Pawn Stars“.. Since Banguk had rented a car (a black mustang!!) he invited me to ride with him so I could see the shop. We were in a hurry to get to the convention for the EQ Next announcement so I didn’t have time to go inside (there was a line out the door) .. But I did hear that the dad was in there taking pics with people. Maybe next year I can go in!

4. Playing in the EQ2 Tournament

My guild members have entered the tournament at SOE Live before, but this was my first time competing. We knew it was going to be a pre-set character group and you had to finish the zone as fast as you could. The group that finished the quickest would win $6,000! Well we thought we kicked butt… Finishing The Dreadcutter in just 19 minutes and 40 something seconds … but sadly other groups beat our time. We even had a computer glitch – Cylaa’s video card crashed and her computer went black for a good 3 minutes. But even though we didn’t win, we were all hyped up after playing together. It was an adrenaline rush, and I couldn’t have been with a better group of players πŸ™‚

5. Eating at the Bacchanel Buffet

One thing we all looked forward to from the moment we got to Las Vegas was eating at the Bacchanel Buffet at Caesar’s Palace! We arrived at the buffet at a perfect time because there wasn’t a line. So we got our table and immediately headed for the food πŸ™‚ I enjoyed the sushi, mini hamburgers, and mac & cheese! But the best part was the dessert bar. It was HUGE! I wanted to take one of everything (and I almost did.) It was totally worth the $50 it cost to get in!

6. Attending the SOE Pool Party

Last year’s pool party left quite an impression on everyone that attended SOE Live. So this year I was excited to see the craziness for myself. Sadly, the lines to get drinks were really long.. And not too many people were in the pools. But I still hopped in and played some volleyball with a few people. It was a cool feeling to look around and see the beautiful Las Vegas hotels in the background.. I felt like I was in a movie!

7. Seeing a Bride and Groom

This may seem silly to some of you, but to me I thought it was so romantic! I think it would be really fun to get married in Las Vegas, so I was hoping I would spot a few brides. Well not only did I see one, but she sat right next to me! Yep, after me and Banguk ordered our gelato at The Venetian we sat on a bench to watch a statue performance. Well next thing I know this BEAUITFUL bride sits right next to me! I told her how lovely she looked and was just giddy to see a fairy tale right before my eyes. After we left The Venetian we saw her and the groom on one of the gondolas outside!

8. Playing Slot Machines

Even though I didn’t spend much money on the slot machines, I knew I needed to at least give it a try! I put two dollars in the Wizard of Oz machine and me and Herminee both won about $10! But we decided to just play it out until we lost.. So at the end of my trip I only lost $7 gambling which I think is pretty good πŸ™‚ I can definitely see how people get hooked on it though.. I really wanted to keep adding more dollars in! lol

9. The Costume Contest

As you know, I love to cosplay, but since a lot of my costumes aren’t plane friendly I decided not to bring one to SOE Live. But two of my guild members did, and Cylaa got Best in Show! Gothicangel also was also in the Top 10 with her costume. They both looked awesome! I hope next year I can make something to bring.

10. Riding in a Limo on the Strip

On our final trip back to the house, Astijia got a limo for all of us to ride in! This was the first time most of us have ever been in one! I got super excited when it turned onto the strip.. it was nighttime so all the lights outside were going and it was a Saturday night! I felt super special – I mean we were in a limo on the strip in Las Vegas!!! It was an epic way to end our adventure.

:+:+:+:+:+:+:

Other fun things that happened that I have to include is getting a Nagafen Hat from the SOE team (I’ve been wearing it around the house all the time!), seeing Elvis impersonators (one was even singing!), spotting a crowd at the Forum Shoppes and finding out Mike Tyson was inside the store, running into Ron Haras (winner of one of my Yoshi Eggs!), getting my picture with The Rock (ok ok it was just a wax figure), and all the awesome SOE/EQ2 swag I bought!

Now I am counting down the days until next year’s SOE Live! This was the most fun I have ever had.. I live and breathe EverQuest 2 so being surrounded by friends that share the same interest was so much fun. I will never forget all the great times we had, and I am certainly looking forward to next year πŸ™‚
:+:+:+:+:

And my guild member (Adaac) took amazing pictures and posted them on his Flickr. So please check them out, too!

  2. So jealous, that looks like so much fun!!! We're saving up all our money for Fan Days right now since John Barrowman will be in attendance, along with some other amazing guests!! I've gotta start thinking up of a new costume idea. I hope to see you out there again too!

  3. Dang! That trip sounds like fun! Vegas is awesome, and it sounds like you did a lot of really great things while you were there… in addition to going to SoE Live and meeting your guild! It's a shame you didn't win the contest… after seeing your tweet about it, I thought for sure you guys would've nailed it. Thanks for sharing about your trip.

EQ Next sounds like it will have some interesting gameplay mechanics. I'll be keeping an eye on it to see how it comes out. Pretty cool that you'll be in the beta, but it's a shame you won't be able to tell us about it (assuming they have the usual NDA at first).

  4. I loved reading about your trip, it seemed like a really awesome time. My husband and I were thinking about going, but San Diego Comic Con just wiped us financially to make the trip. Maybe next year though πŸ™‚

One thing I did find funny was one of the downsides to EQ Next that your guildie listed was that the toons look too cartoonish and WoW-like. I am a huge World of Warcraft player, and to me, the graphics of Everquest (I play EQ2) look super cheesy. But at the end of the day both games are still fun and its just a matter of perspective.

OMGLITZY: The Nutcracker Ice Show

Monday, December 23, 2013

The Nutcracker Ice Show

Every year at the Gaylord Texan Resort, there is an epic Ice Show put on for the holidays. This year the theme was The Nutcracker! My parents surprised me with tickets to the show for my birthday, and we all really enjoyed going.

The Gaylord Texan is a beautiful resort with all kinds of other attractions inside. There was a gingerbread house, giant Christmas tree, and you could even visit Santa!

When you enter the Ice Show, they give you a HUGE jacket to wear. I didn’t think I would need it on top of my big coat, but I am so glad I wore it. The temperature inside was only 9 DEGREEs! It was so cold I couldn’t feel my face.
They use two million pounds of ice to make all the sculptures. I was amazed at the size and detail of each piece. You can read more about how they make the ice here.

Of course, my favorite sculpture was the pink pegasus!

There was also an ice slide you could go down! That’s me on the slide!!

The last room in the show was dedicated to New York City. There was a Yellow Taxi, the Statue of Liberty and Big Apples.

If you live in the DFW area, I definitely recommend checking out the Ice Show at the Gaylord. The whole place was beautiful and really put me in the holiday spirit. There are also several restaurants inside, and it’s the official hotel for the Dallas Cowboys!
:+:+:+:+:
Hope everyone has a happy holiday!!
Do you have any holiday attractions in your town?

  4. Whoa. Totally not what I was expecting when I heard "Ice Show" as a skating nerd. I can't get over the level of detail in the sculptures. Beautiful.

OMGLITZY: Tutorial: League of Legends Annie Cosplay

Tutorial: League of Legends Annie Cosplay

Since PAX East is in a few weeks it got me thinking about my trip to PAX Prime last year! Then I realized I hadn’t posted a tutorial for my Annie cosplay from League of Legends. I won’t be able to go to PAX East this year, but here’s the tutorial in case someone wants to dress up as Annie!

This was the version of Annie I was going for.
I got my dress from American Apparel. I altered it some to fit better and added the fringe to the bottom of the sleeves. I would love to add the swirl design to my dress since I didn’t have time to before. The petticoat and leg warmers are from Amazon. The wig I used was a Jareth in Raspberry from Arda. I did cut it quite a bit to get Annie’s bangs and style. I already owned black shoes and a white collared shirt, but I am sure you can find that easily at Walmart or on Amazon!
For the fireball prop, I took a styrofoam ball and hot glued fake fur to it. I found all these supplies at my local craft store.

I really just randomly snipped at the fur and glued it in place until the whole ball was covered.

Then I used hairspray to give the fur a spiky look.
During this step I recommend that you wear gloves! Because the Sharpies stained my hands pretty bad. Basically, I started with the red and hand colored the root of the fur. Then I worked my way up with the orange and finally added yellow to the tips.

For Annie’s headband you will need a headband (any color), light and dark pink felt, cotton balls, hot glue, and scissors. I made a pattern for the ears out of paper, too.

Cover your headband in the light colored pink felt using the hot glue.

After you cut out your shape for the ears (or horns.. they kinda look like either) stuff a cotton ball inside it to give it volume.

Tada! No sewing required! I want to make all different colored cat ears now πŸ˜€

Annie’s backpack was sad to make. I found a kid’s pink fluffy backpack on Amazon and bought two of these bears. (The backpack I bought is no longer listed, but this one is very similar.)

Here’s the sad part… I’m so sorry little bears!!  *cry*

So all I did was stitch up the back of the little bears heads and then hand stitched them onto the straps of the backpack. The Tibbers that I carried around was found at Toys R Us. He was thankful he didn’t get beheaded.

“You smell like burning!”
:+:+:+:
Let me know if you make an Annie cosplay!
Do you play League of Legends?
If so who is your favorite champion?

  1. I'm not trying to hate, this tutorial was actually helpful, but you do know that is not what Annie actually looks like right? It's sorta similar but not correct.

    1. You may not have been "trying" but your comment did come off as rude and unnecessary πŸ™ Cosplay is supposed to be a freedom of expression. It's an art. I posted a reference photo of the version of Annie I was going for, but even if I didn't judging a cosplay because it's not "exactly perfect" is why so many people are afraid to try it. Cosplay can be so many things! I want people to feel encouraged to embrace their favorite characters whether it is an exact replica, fan interpretation or an original design. It's about having FUN and enjoying yourself.

Your comment sends a wrong message to the cosplay community. I hope you think to remember a real person is behind the computer the next time you try to tell someone their art is not correct.
