30 Day Disney Challenge: Day 1, 2, 3

I still need to organize all my convention photos from March because I totally spent the last few days playing the Google Maps Pokemon Challenge. (And I totally found Mew!) So here’s a fun 30 day Photo Challenge I found on Instagram. It looks like colorful-cotton changed her tumblr to -carousel.tumblr.com so she gets credit for this nifty list 🙂
Day 1 – Your favorite character:
I chose Ariel because I’ve loved her since I was little. Every time I went swimming I would pretend to be a mermaid. There’s something enchanting and magical about them. I love her bright colors and curious personality.
Day 2 – Your favorite princess:
Rapunzel is my absolute favorite princess. I love that she is creative, loving and a dreamer. She’s not afraid to try new things or take risks. She comes across as very relatable since she didn’t know she was a princess growing up. Her attitude about life is very admirable.
Day 3 – Your favorite heroine:
In Frozen, Anna showed true bravery when she went to save her sister Elsa. She didn’t even stop to think about it; saving her was automatic. Anna’s determination and act of selflessness makes her my favorite heroine in a Disney movie.

Feel free to comment below with your answers and play along with me!

OMGLITZY: Anime Fest 2014

Anime Fest 2014

This was my second year to attend Anime Fest. The first time was in 2012 (you can view the posts here and here.) This is a very fun convention because it’s similar to AKon but just a little smaller in size. I can tell it’s still grown since my first visit, though. The hotel it is at is one of my favorites in Dallas – the Sheraton. I love the layout and location. Anime Fest had many guests in attendance including the band FLOW as well as several voice actors and game developers. The other best part of this con are the fan-run panels. I was happy to provide some prizes for the Disney Panel which is always a very popular one to attend!

I decided to wear comfy clothes to pick up my badge – Hello Kitty dress from Macy’s, Toki Doki headband and my new wig from Gothic Lolita Wigs. I’m not sure where I got my jean vest at, but I decked it out with fun pins including one from Nerd Burger!
The dealer’s room had rows and rows of goodies for sale including games, apparel, plushies, jewelry and even Ramune and Pocky.
There were also several cosplay supply booths. This one had some great wigs for sale!
While walking around the dealer’s room I found this beautiful Belle cosplay and a very creative Dalek and Doctor!

This super cute Olaf even had his own personal snow cloud. Aww!

And my favorite were this two dressed as Mike and Sulley from Monsters University.
In the artists alley, I got to meet Carl Martin who was featured on this past season of Heroes of Cosplays on SyFy. He was incredibly nice and was taking his time to chat with everyone that came by his table.
This was a view of the artists alley from the escalator. I love that this part of the convention is free to explore. Meaning you don’t need a badge to shop and browse here.
This was a Paint and Take room. They provided table top figures that you could paint and then bring home with you!
The next day I wore my Sailor Ariel cosplay. I met up with Alycen of Kirakira Cosplay and got a picture with her pool party Gaige.
And this is my good friend Payton of Schmall Cosplay. She makes incredible armor out of Worbla and won First place in the masters division contest for her Magic Armor Link costume she debuted on Sunday.

Our Disney Sailor Scout group met up to do another shoot and this time we had some new gals! Sailor Alice, Sailor Jane, Sailor Elsa, Sailor Ariel, Sailor Megara, and Sailor Belle

And this is my individual shot of my Sailor Ariel.
I didn’t buy much at this con since I spent most of my money at AKon. But I did indulge on this cute bow ring for only $3. Anime Fest also provides really nice program books and badges that I will be adding to my collection.
I had a planned to debut a new surprise cosplay, but I wasn’t feeling too great so I didn’t get to wear it the next day. But I am hoping to wear it to Dallas Fan Days!

OMGLITZY: Cosplay Etiquette: Cosplaying the Same Character

Cosplay Etiquette: Cosplaying the Same Character

Today on the blog I am curious what some of y’all may think of a topic regarding cosplay! So I want to ask a question and have it open to polite discussion 🙂
What is the proper etiquette for cosplaying the same character as someone you know?
Here’s my backstory for where this is coming from: I have a list of characters in my head that I would love to cosplay someday. The list has grown fast and changes quite a bit. However, there are a few characters that have stayed on the list for quite awhile and simply haven’t found their time to be made yet.
So the other day a really talented cosplayer posted a character they want to cosplay. Well it turns out to be one that I want to do as well! This got me thinking – what is the proper etiquette for cosplaying the same character as someone else?
My first reaction was “Well now I can’t do it.” I’m still a newbie at this.. and the other cosplayer is an amazing veteran with super crafting skills. These are some of the thoughts that went through my head:
– I don’t want to look like I’m copying.
– I don’t want people to compare mine to theirs.
– I will compare mine to theirs even if I don’t mean to.
But the more I thought about it the more I realized most of those reasons were insecurities on my end. First of all, no one owns a character. In the end we are all copying. That’s exactly what cosplay is! You pick a character from a video game, anime, comic, etc and straight up “copy” the design. Part of the fun of cosplaying is recreating the look.
As far as etiquette goes I think it’s best to talk with the other cosplayer if you know them personally. Let them know you want to do a character that they’ve decided to do as well. Then ask them how they feel about it. This way you won’t jeopardize your friendship. Now if you don’t know the other cosplayer at all then I wouldn’t worry about trying to reach out to ask them to see if it’s okay. If you google the character you want to do you may find that 20+ other people have done that same character. It would be near impossible to track them all down to ask permission. So just go for it and create your cosplay in your own artistic way!
Now, there’s no stopping people from comparing or passing judgement. The cosplay community is pretty nice and welcoming, but there’s definitely plenty of trolls that sneak their way in. My best advice for this is to just ignore it. Even if you are the ONLY person to cosplay a character people are going to compare you to the original design. Try not to read the negative comments and if you accidentally do then just be a duck and let it roll right off your back. Because you’re fabulous no matter what they think.
You CAN control whether or not YOU pass judgement. If you are wearing the same cosplay as someone else then do your best not to nitpick the details. It goes two ways: don’t think that they are better than you just because they used different techniques or materials, but also don’t think that you are better than them either. Remember that we’re all just celebrating our love for a fandom.
When I am at a convention and I see someone dressed up as the same character as me, I actually get really excited! You know why? Because that means we both have a common interest. We love that character! It’s a great way to make a new friend.
So my final tip for cosplaying the same character as someone you know is: Don’t copy the cosplayer; cosplay the character! Always put your own creative twist on it. Make it your own! You’ll be more proud of your work that way.
:+:+:+:
So let me know what you think in the comments!

  2. Awesome article! Thanks for writing and posting! <3

  3. This is lovely 😀 "Be a duck" is perfect! I definitely get the fear of copying, and I think your advice to reach out to the people you *know* is spot on.

    ReplyDelete

  4. I don't think I've ever felt concerned about being a duplicate cosplay at a con. Usually you see multiples of all sorts of characters. If I ever see a character dressed as whoever I'm dressed as I'll go out of my way to take pictures together if anything 🙂

    ReplyDelete

  5. Great post! I think it's great advice to focus on the source material. If I see another cosplayer (especially one that I really look up to) make a cosplay that I want to make, I tend to psyche myself out about it. It's part of the reason I've put off "classic" Wonder Woman and Lulu for so long!

I like your point about having a common interest in a fandom as well. I love running into other cosplayers dressed as the character as me! We get to geek out over our shared loves 🙂

  6. 1) I think most would agree, you're a vet. You're very talented and well recognized.
    2) It's great that you think about other's feelings.

Ultimately though, you're advice that you just cosplay the character and not the cosplayer is what matters. The only reason I can see for contacting another cosplayer is if you wanted to copy a very specific element that they came up with. I contacted a Joker cosplayer who is amazing and asked about his make up. He considered it proprietary, so I said thank you for the response and moved on.

I LOVE getting pics with others who are doing the same character. There is such a wonderful variety one can come up with. Great article!

  8. True Story. One Halloween, back in my Theater Arts undergrad days, I dressed up as Dream from The Sandman. And everyone thought I was The Crow. Eventually, I got tired of correcting them (not a lot of Neil Gaiman fans back then) and just said "Yes, fine.. I'm The Crow". Then I found out that this one prima donna actor WAS dressed as The Crow and he threw a fit about how I was ripping him off and how I couldn't even do the eye make-up properly.

Hence forth, I could give a damn about people "owning" a costume. Because anybody who cares and is willing to make a big deal about it is probably out to cause drama about anything.

    ReplyDelete

  9. Very well written. I'd never thought about it, but I am the same as you about the subject. I've always(somehow) managed to cosplay characters that aren't seen as often, and I always hear "You're the first [this character] I've seen!" The idea that I've cosplayed "unique" characters doesn't help the mentality that if somebody else is doing it, I should cosplay somebody else. I still think its awesome when I see another person cosplay the same character, like last year at A-fest a guy cosplayed a character I did but on a different day, I told him "stay right there, I'm gonna go change into that character too!" Theres a fun connection when it is a character people love but don't see at convention. I agree, though, that nobody owns the characters and its all about having fun and meeting peeps with the same interests.

    ReplyDelete

  10. The way I see it, there are tons of characters out there. If you pick a well known or popular character, you are going to run into a copy of yourself guaranteed. Lesser known? Well it'll take a while, but it does happen. 🙂 No one owns a character, unless it's a 100% completely original design from that person's personal anime, manga, book, movie, etc. But everything else is up for grabs.

Find new ways to put a spin on a character. Add little touches that make the design unique to you. For example, use props or jewelry that other cosplayers may not add to a costume.

But the most important aspect is to not be stuck up about it. "Oh! But this is the one I'm cosplaying. No one else can do it. Just me." Well, no. You don't own the character. The fans do. Everyone has a right to cosplay who they want and how they wish. We should embrace everyone's talents and uplift our community, not bring it back down.

So I say don't worry about it. Cosplay as you want and do it your way. So few people care that there are multiple cosplayers wearing the same costume, in fact we love seeing it that more pictures get taken. 😀 You should only be concerned about you, yourself, and your work. If you are happy with the costume, wear it and have fun!

    ReplyDelete

  11. I never even thought about this before. Everything you said makes sense and is so considerate. I want to start getting into cosplay and this just makes me want to more.

    ReplyDelete

  12. I agree and I also like the idea of meeting someone who has the same cosplay; then you know you have found one of your people. BTW, your Shredder was amazballs!

    ReplyDelete

  13. I definitely agree with you I would also say most people would feel honored that they inspired someone to proceed in a certain direction with character sometimes you don't realize how you would do a character until you see someone do it. Or like the in your case you already had kind of the idea but seeing it executed sparked something.. Cos is all about inspiration creation. You rock!!

    ReplyDelete

  14. I never worry about other people cosplaying the same character as me "better" than me. I have confidence in what I'm doing, and it's fun! Plus, you get to have twinsie pictures. 🙂

    ReplyDelete

  15. I wouldn't cosplay a character that one of my good friends has cosplayed–though I might propose a costume swap for a day :). I also tend to avoid costumes that I see others working on. I do tend to stay faaaaar away from characters that have been cosplayed a lot. I'm not sure if it's subconsciously about intimidation or a desire to have fresh costumes, but it's definitely a choice I make.

Of course, that's just a personal choice! I think that people should cosplay whoever they want–though if they do choose a character that a friend does they should talk to them about it. No one wants unnecessary drama in their lives!

    ReplyDelete

  16. I love it when people love the same characters as me! I absolutely encourage people to cosplay whoever they want, even if it's a character I already did. So I don't usually think about if another person has done the costume I want to do (unless it's SUPER specific, then I would probably mention it to them, like you said). I cosplay Ramona Flowers a lot, and she's a really popular character. It would be easy to get caught up in comparing my costume to everyone else's, but that's not what it's about for me. I'd rather swap tips and compliment the cool parts of their costume than be catty or jealous.

Some people may think of a character as someone else's, especially if that person cosplays a lot of different versions of that character. But my guess is, if that person loves the character enough to make multiple costumes, then they would be delighted to see someone else loving the character.

Awesome post and I totally agree with you! I hope you end up doing the costume you mentioned 🙂

  17. I think if you did the EXACT same version (as you said: cosplaying the cosplayer) versus, cosplaying the character that might be a time to contact someone.

But, I think it should be a community, and I think it's fun to see different interpretations of the same character.

Kind of like cover songs: each version will be different, but sometimes, the cover is really fun too!
Do your version! It's not about better or worse. It's about doing what you like!

    ReplyDelete

  18. I look at it like this, none of us own these characters. If there isn't a twist on the costume (making it steampunk, doing an original take), then I don't think anything needs to be said. Just think about all the Deadpools you see! I highly doubt they all reach out to each other to get the OK to do it.

    ReplyDelete

  19. I actually get very happy when I see people cosplaying the same character because it shows me how much other people like that character too.
I think that as long as you are happy with what you created then you should cosplay whoever you please. Keep up the great cosplaying!

    ReplyDelete

  20. I have been dealign with this at the moment. I am going to the next con as Rufio from hook because the actor Dante Basco is attending. I am nervous that others will be dressed as him and was not sure hoe to act or feel if I do see others. I have worked on the costume for months and I just hope people don't rip me a new one if its not as good as the more experienced cosplayers.

    ReplyDelete

  21. You cosplay for fun.

So it doesnt matter if there are ten batman in a Con. You all like batman, You all like cosplaying him…nuff said

And Im sure as heck know the real batman wont care either

    ReplyDelete

  22. I feel the same way. No need to worry about what other people think! Just go out there and own it! 😀

And it's good to see other cosplayers taking peoples feelings into consideration. I have known a couple of people who are complete jerks about it and "claim" characters – then upset if someone else they know even considers dressing as that character. It causes silly petty drama and I don't have room for it!

Thank you for writing your opinion on what's actually becoming a super-common issue in the community. 😀

Im not the ONLY one per se, but I have yet to meet another person cosplaying the same character that I do. But let me tell you, people are still going to hate on you! I haven't had hate as far as people saying my costume is bad per se, but people find things to hate on – people have hated on me because they thought I was transgender, then hate on me when they found out I wasn't… i mean, really!! Those types of people are going to hate. PERIOD. There isn't anything that you can do to change their petty, little minds – because they WANT to hate, they want to complain. Do what is fun, and what feels comfortable for you. 🙂 the rest is details. 🙂

    1. The only time I think it should an "issue" is if someone is "copying" another cosplayer's work directly – like if they made up an almost OC piece/adjustment/addition to their character. And someone goes out and copies it, especially if the cosplayer MADE that piece of art themselves, then I can see there being a need for a discussion.

      Delete

  25. Step one: Pick a character you like and cosplay them
Step two: Compliment everyone you talk to, even if they have the same cosplay as you.
    Step three: ???
Step Four: Carry on knowing you made someone smile

    ReplyDelete

  26. How do I react if someone's cosplaying the same character as I am? "HI FRIEND, WHO ARE YOU?" Seriously; we obviously share at least one interest in common if we're cosplaying the same character. Cosplay is a great ice-breaker. I've made friends with people that I met because we were dressed as the same character.

Besides, I generally make my own stuff, other people may make their own as well or buy from various commissioners, etc, so they won't be exactly identical anyway. Everyone brings their own ideas and twists to a costume. Not to mention that some characters have variations and alternate outfits, and not everyone always does the same variation or chooses the same props. And many cosplayers that I've met are happy to kick around ideas and advice, so talking to people who do characters you do/are thinking of doing can provide a rich source of information that will help you improve as a cosplayer.

I don't find a whole lot of use in comparing myself to others. It's too easy to start getting into toxic frames of mind that way, so while I might compare myself a little bit sometimes, I try not to do it much at all. I find it more valuable to compare my current self to my past self. As long as my personal skill level is going up at least a little bit each time, that's good. I don't have to be better than anyone else; I just need my new work to be better than my old work. :3 (And I also have to remind myself sometimes that true textbook "perfection" doesn't exist either, so to not sweat it too much if something isn't totally flawless.)

    ReplyDelete

  27. I get excited when someone I know asks about cosplaying a character I do. I offered help, tips, and any advice they might want to help them make the costume. I help them learn from my mistakes. I've even offered to let a couple borrow my props for photo shoots.

I know I am not the best when it comes to sewing, but I work hard & I like to think it shows. I've made it my job to encourage new cosplayers because I never got that encouragement. We must make ourselves the example on how to treat others.

OMGLITZY: DIY Lightsaber Hilt Tutorial

DIY Lightsaber Hilt Tutorial

As promised, I have a very geeky Star Wars tutorial! I will be dressing up as Asajj Ventress for Sci Fi Expo and decided to make the hilt because the Force FX version was way expensive and mostly sold out everywhere I looked. This is a cheap, easy, and quick way to make Asajj Ventress’ lightsaber. It could also be used to make Count Dooku’s.
Pixie always has to be in the middle of what’s going on. She claimed the trash bag as hers and rolled around on it the whole time I was crafting, lol.
Items needed:
Duct Tape
Electrical Tape
Glue Gun
Scissors
Red Beads
 PVC pipe
(My friend Andrew suggested PVC pipe and using a heat gun to bend it slightly to make the curve. Since I wasn’t sure I could bend one with my blow dryer I decided to just put these pieces together using my glue gun)
Once I glued the pieces together I wrapped the whole thing in duct tape.
Then I used the electrical tape to add the black lines and red beads for the On/Off switch.
I looked into adding a blade to it but was unsure if it could hold up a wooden dowel. And I couldn’t find any long enough styrofoam. So I’m probably going to attach velcro to the back of the hilts and onto my costume so I can just wear them on my belt.
This project cost me about $25, all purchased from Lowe’s, and only took about 30-45 minutes to make! I realize it’s not perfect but sometimes handmade items are more fun 🙂
So what do you think? Don’t you wish lightsabers were real?!
If you had to be a Sith or a Jedi which would you pick?

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #7

What is your name?
AlaynaEvenstar

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?

Or how long have you been playing?
At launch!

What made you want to try the game?

I had a group who had played the original guild wars and so I decided to jump in to GW2 with them. We all preordered and were logging in on day 1 to keep our character names etc

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?

Elementalist 100%. I love the complexity of the attunements and find that I play so differently then I did when I first rolled my Ele just learning all of the nuances.

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?

I usually see what the dailies are and try to knock them out.

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?

If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
I was at the announcement panel at PAX South and definitely preordered HoT!! The new maps are gorgeous and the gliding adds a whole new layer to things. The fact that we can now glide in central Tyria is AWESOME.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?

I want a legendary! I never started down that path before the expansion but now I am definitely working through getting the mastery track and getting the precursor that way!

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!

If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
I’m in a tiny guild that is just real-life friends. We are way behind in the whole guild progression stuff because there are only 4 of us who regularly log in but we are determined we are going to get out guild hall!

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?

Not really. There are always little bugs here and there at patch launches etc but overall I think they do a good job of keeping things working and interesting.

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
Oooo that is tough. Probably Hoelbrak. Just to see the scale and grandeur of it.

Happy Things #17

Well I just had an amazing weekend at The Vampire Diaries convention and now I am recovering from yet another post-con depression.. lol .. I can’t wait to upload all my photos and tell you about meeting the actors and actresses. So I will be making a post about that soon! Also, big congrats to the winners of my Kick-Ass 2 Poster Giveaway! Thank you all for entering and keep checking for another giveaway soon! For now, here is a Happy Things post to get us through another work week!
I am super happy that I was picked by Grimm Bros as a winner for a 4 Day Ticket to PAX Prime! This gaming convention has been on my wish list for a long time. I am so grateful I finally get to attend!  The convention is NEXT WEEK! omg! But I am ridiculously thankful I’ll get to visit Seattle and see this awesome event. I feel like it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that I did not want to miss! For PAX Prime I will be cosplaying Annie from League of Legends on Saturday. This was a last minute costume, but it came together so well. I will be making another post about it with photos soon!
I found this super cute minion makeup on Pinterest! How fun!

One of my rad readers suggested I try the avocado egg rolls from The Cheesecake Factory! These were delicious!! Thank you for suggesting these! I definitely recommend ordering them. Yum!
I recently ordered new business cards for my salon.. and when they arrived I squealed because they are so cute! These are a design I found on Zazzle. They make really great quality cards, and you can customize them.

Once I got my new cards in, I decided to re-do my salon’s Facebook page. I love playing around in  Photoshop and enjoy designing my sites. You can “Like” my salon’s page here!
LOL
And if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook then you saw I recently changed my hair color! I ate some cotton candy a few days ago and it inspired me to color my hair. It’d been a long time since I had a funky color. I was trying to keep it blonde so I can dress up as Legolas without a wig, but I might get a wig anyway since my hair still isn’t quite as long as his.

Also, Pixie Doodle says Hello to everyone!
:+:+:+:+:
What has made you Happy lately?

Happy Things #8

I am really excited to get a new tattoo  .. I want to get a flamingo! 😛 This is a sweet pic from the movie. Gnomeo and Juliet.
Here is an origami butterfly I made. I just need some fun colored paper.

This was my favorite book as a kid.. I loved how colorful and sparkly the pictures were. And the story is great, too. It teaches that it’s great to be unique, but what’s the point if you don’t share it with someone?

I ordered this butterfly necklace from Tarina Tarantino.

I finally ordered some make up from Lime Crime. So glad I did! It’s beautiful!

I’ve suddenly jumped on the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic bandwagon .. and I love it! It’s such a cute show. I am dressing up as Rainbow Dash for an upcoming convention. And my friends will be Pinkie Pie and Mrs. Cupcake!

Ordered this wonderful dress from ModCloth .. got it in red and purple, too!

I went to a powerlifting competition for the first time to see my friend Chronicbomb! We’ve been friends on EQ2 for a couple of years. It was great meeting him, and he got first place!

And Cheesecake Factory just came out with this recently .. I can’t wait to try it!!
Have a nice day 🙂

  2. How awesome to meet someone from EQ2. Congrats to Chronicbomb. Hope he continues winning at future events. Good to have friends who support each other. More people should learn that lesson.

  3. Is the pigment pretty strong in Lime Crime? I'm fed up with Mac. Might order some too.

    ReplyDelete

  4. Flamingo. What you thinkin' girl?? You're getting all the good stuff. I don't have a tattoo but I do see a "dot" in the future!

  5. Just came across your blog and I think it's awesome! So much color. =) And I LOVE your hair.

I've used quite a bit of Lime Crime and love it! I only have the loose shadows, though. That pressed shadow palette looks gorgeous.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi. Added you to my follow list and I'm excited to see what you post!

OMGLITZY: I’m Leaving Dallas

I’m Leaving Dallas

Whoa what a heavy title for a blog post! Well it’s true. I am going to be leaving Dallas in April to move to Houston! I came to Dallas in December of 2009 completely on my own and ready to take on the world. I’ve loved my stay here. I’ve grown so much in many areas of my life. My career really blossomed when I became a manager for Regis and then eventually running my own business by opening a salon booth. It taught me a lot about the beauty industry and if I could I would do it all again. I took a break from doing hair to try my hands at other career options, but I’ve had trouble finding one that fits me. In Houston, I plan to work at a salon again and get back into the field I love most. There are about 6 different salons in the area that I will be applying at. I’m confident I’ll be able to find one that is right for me.
It’s hard to say goodbye to Dallas because of the amazing comic conventions and cosplay scene here. I’ve been able to meet a lot of fantastic friends and embrace a new hobby that really gave me life. Houston has some conventions of it’s own and hopefully once things settle down I can start making costumes again. I’m thankful for all the great opportunities Dallas has provided, but I am looking forward to new doors being opened soon.
There are some other reasons that I am moving. Y’all know I’ve had some ups and downs recently. I don’t plan to mention or dwell on much of it. Let’s just say I know this will be for the best. However, I felt it would be good for me to go ahead and share this news because y’all always lift me up with your kind comments and words of encouragement!!
If you’d like .. and you don’t have to so don’t even worry about it .. but if you’d like you can donate a few dollars to my move fund by using the PayPal donation on my Twitch channel. If I am live streaming your message will appear on stream and I can thank you personally, but if I am offline your message will be for only me to read. And you don’t need a Twitch account to donate (I don’t think) and there are no fees this way! So it’s just there if you feel like it – I appreciate any support!
I’ll probably be pretty busy the next couple of weeks, but once I am in my new place in April I hope to get back into the swing of things again with regular posts and streams. I’m excited to go on some new adventures in Houston and have new things to actually post about! 😛 For now the best place to see updates from me is on Twitter – @OMGLITZY – if you want to follow me there. Thank you all for reading and being so sweet and kind to me! HUGS!

Tutorial: DIY Rainbow Highlighter

Have you dreamed of becoming a unicorn princess? Well then this tutorial is for you! No unicorn princess is complete without a prism of rainbows shimmering across their cheeks!
I first saw the rainbow highlighter craze on Instagram when Bitter Lace Beauty first launched their product. Their small independent business exploded overnight. The original product now has a 9-10 month preorder! Due to the long wait, many people came up with a "DIY" version that you can create at home. I followed several guides to see if I could make my own and took some pics of my process! Hope you enjoy!

Life Update: Houston, Pixie, and Guild Wars 2!

Hey all! I know it’s been too long since I updated! Sorry about that! I think of all these cool posts in my head when I’m not at the computer but when I sit down to type the words don’t seem to flow. I’ve just been busy with real life things lately.
As I have mentioned before, I moved from Dallas to Houston a few months ago. I mostly moved here for family reasons but also because I thought I had some good leads on jobs. Unfortunately it just hasn’t worked out in my favor. I applied at over 20 places and none of them were meant to be. I was at a salon for a little bit but it’s hours did not work with my schedule. I’m spending time now focusing on my family and dealing with some other personal things before I dive back into the job search.
I also found out this week that Pixie is going to need surgery again. She has tooth resorption and last fall she had a serious accident where her top canine broke off due to decay and she developed a fistula. She had most of her teeth extracted except for her two bottom canines and a couple teeth in the back. I’ve been taking her to see a vet about once a month to make sure it doesn’t get worse. When I moved to Houston, the new vet I visited barely looked in her mouth and never called me back. I didn’t want to go back to him so I found a different one this week and really liked her a lot. This vet looked at Pixie’s mouth very closely and decided it would be in Pixie’s best interest to have all her remaining teeth extracted. Things have progressed rather rapidly again. Her gums are very inflamed and seem to be rejecting her bottom canines. The teeth are literally being “pushed up and out of her gums” and are likely to break off soon if not taken care of. It’s also very painful. The good news is she doesn’t have any infections yet since I caught it early this time! Pixie is scheduled to have her surgery this coming Monday, and we are all hopeful that this will finally put an end to her gum issues.
In some other super good awesome news – I got a partnership with Guild Wars 2 and ArenaNet!!! This means if you use my links to buy Heart of Thorns or try the free to play version a small portion will directly support me!! This was a dream come true and has been a complete honor to be a part of. I have been able to meet amazing people in this community and that has honestly been the greatest reward. The game has some very exciting updates coming soon with Living World Season 3 being launched on July 26. So it’s a great time to check it out!
I do plan to eventually apply for a Twitch subscribe button again. My numbers have increased since the last time I applied, but now the problem is I don’t have a set streaming schedule. I don’t really have time to be consistent during the week besides Monday nights. I hope to change this as soon as I can, but of course family needs to come first. So I appreciate everyone that does tune in whenever I am live!
More random things I’ve done lately can be seen on my Instagram or Twitter. I went to the Houston Aquarium for my brother’s birthday, checked out my first Houston comic con – Comicpalooza, saw a Houston Astros baseball game and have actually been getting some exercise with PokemonGo. Dealing with anxiety and stress can be hard but I am thankful for all the good moments I’ve had. 🙂
Thank you all that have kept in touch with me on social media! Hope you have a good week!!
XOXO,
Glitzy

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #8

What is your name?
Vætr Droppin Bombz!

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?

Or how long have you been playing?
I’ve been playing since beta!

What made you want to try the game?

A friend of mine was talking about it; sounded interesting and unique, plus I had never played an MMO, so I figured why not give it a shot!

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?

Dagger/Dagger Elementalist! I spent a lot of time training and playing Ele in general, and to me D/D Ele is extremely fun!

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?

Go to my home instance or guild hall and collect my daily nodes.

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
I totally “Shut up and take my money!” Lol. I like the new maps; the sense of urgency, to complete objectives, and overall involvement with the content is good. The maps are expansive and detailed, and are just really fun to explore.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?

I want to craft a second Eternity, and also craft Flameseeker Prophecies.

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
I am in the best guild evah, Ethereal Guardians [EG]. They’re PvE centric, but do a lot of PvP and WvW as well. Well rounded guild, fully upgraded buffs, and the best Guild Hall! Check them out, put in an application! http://etherealguardians.com/recruitment

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?

More consistent updates for WvW that involve ANet actually paying attention to what the WvW community is asking for. Separate balance patches for WvW, PvE, and PvP. Better/more consistent rewards for the more difficult content. More non-raid dungeons!!!! =D

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
Metrica Province! It is wrapped in mystery and rich with lore. It feels like there’s a lot there worth exploring and investigating beyond what the naked eye can see.

March Thoughts

Another month has passed already?! It sure seems like 2016 is zipping by! I would have loved to have filmed March vlog, but there just hasn’t been enough time in the day to do so. I hope you don’t mind another blog post then! :o)

March actually was a lot happier than February. I was recovering from a lot of defeats and have taken time to reflect on how to improve myself. I made a list of some memorable moments from March so let’s dive in!

Dyed hair – One of the most exciting changes this month was dying my hair back to pink. Last October I shaved my head and have been letting it grow without any bleach or dye. It was getting about an inch or so long and was just a boring dark brown color. Since I don’t really have a plan on what to do with it, I decided to dye it pink again! Even though I still wear wigs from time to time, I enjoy having my colorful ‘do back.

Gaming – Let’s start with EQ Next. This is a game that was announced back when I attended SOE Live several years ago. I’ve always been a big Ever Quest fan and was really excited for EQ Next. Well sadly, they announced that the game will no longer be happening. It broke my heart to read about it. I may need to revisit EQ2 soon. In happier news, I’ve been playing a lot of Dragon Mania Legends which is a mobile app game that is very easy and addicting. In March, they released a new “Clans” feature where you can group with friends to earn new rewards. It’s one of the only mobile games I’ve actually stuck with now for a nearly year! Finally let’s get into a recap of Guild Wars 2. This month I decided to make the legendary shield The Flameseeker Prophecies. I had almost all the materials for it and really liked the design so I just went for it. A few days later the devs announced that they were postponing the release of new legendary weapons indefinitely! What!! So that means all this time waiting for the new weapons that they promised with the expansion won’t be happening after all. I admit I was pretty bummed about this news. I would have made the sword Bolt instead of the shield, but I was waiting for the new sword to come out. I guess that won’t happen so now I will be making Bolt next. Some good things that happened in GW2 was the new raid wing, the return of the Bunny Ears and the big giveaway party I hosted on my stream. I gave away lots of prizes and had a fun time in Lions Arch with my friends and guildies. I’ll be hosting a giveaway on the last Friday of every month so if you missed it you can join us for the next one!

Moving – You can read the whole story on this blog post. But the TLDR version is I made a trip down to Houston to look for an apartment and find a new job. I found a very nice place that would be available mid April so I made the jump and signed a lease! I’m nervous and a little sad to be leaving Dallas, but this will be a good opportunity for me. It will be fun to explore a new place and also get back in to the beauty industry for my career. So I am looking forward to the move. It’s just been very hectic now trying to organize, clean, and pack my things in preparation.

Divergent – I saw Allegiant in theaters this month. Here’s my mini review of the new movie: I’ve been a big fan of the books and really loved the first movie. The second movie was okay but seemed too heavy on CGI. I was hoping the 3rd installment of the series would redeem itself but it left me going home really unhappy. It’s like they totally forgot about telling a good story and focused all of their money and energy on visual effects again. Also, Tris just seemed very unlike herself and lost all of her character development. Many of the scenes and lines came off cheesy and nearly made me laugh (and not in a good way.) The only thing I enjoyed about the movie was Four. The actor played his role well and the character made smart decisions and looked like a badass. I enjoyed his moments more than any others, but it still wasn’t enough to get me excited for the last movie due next year.

Easter – It was a little weird having Easter so early. Isn’t it usually in April? My family and I kept things pretty laid back and decided to order pizza for the weekend. I also got some cute cards in the mail and had a great day!

Store – While cleaning out my room and closet I found tons of nice purses, jewelry and decor that I just no longer use -or never used to begin with – and decided to open a Storenvy! I have had 2 sales so far and hope that my other items will find a new home soon. The money will help go towards my move, too! omglitzy.storenvy.com

Pixie update – This actually happened today rather than in March but since it’s fresh on my mind I wanted to fill you in! I took Pixie in for her 2 month check up on the state of her gums and teeth and the vet said things are still looking good! I’m glad the few teeth she has left are doing alright so she won’t need any removed any time soon. I let the vet know that I am moving to Houston and it was a little sad to say goodbye. They’ve been a great clinic to go to and have really taken good care of Pixie. I hope I can find another nice vet in Houston.
That’s about all I can think of for March! Overall I would say it was a very good month. ^.^

I opened a new store! Shop my closet!

The last several days I have been cleaning my room in preparation for my move to Houston! In the process, I found some nice items in my closet that are either gently or never been used. I decided to open a shop on Storenvy so I can raise some money for my move. All sales are US only and shipping is only $4 (and $1.00 for any additional item.) Right now I have a lot of purses and necklaces from brands like Betsey Johnson, Juicy Couture and Tarina Tarantino. I also have my My Little Pony blind bag collection listed and some really cool metal tin comics. This is also a chance to grab one of my cosplay prints since I found a folder with a few left over from my when I had an Etsy store. I hope you see something you like and if not please share it with your friends that might be interested!
Thanks and hugs!

February Thoughts

I was hoping to make a February Vlog for YouTube kind of like I did for January but seeing how it’s already March 7 I figured let’s just type it out this time! I really don’t want to lose momentum from the boost of creative energy I had at the beginning of this year. February was a true test for this because life sure did like to tell me “NO!” I applied for so many things in February and every single thing came back negative. I’ve been reaching out more to friends and that’s really helped me keep my chin up. I received so much positive feedback and advice after my “Staying Positive” blog post. I read all the comments and emails and private messages and to be honest that’s truly what has kept me from throwing in the towel again. Last year I gave up so easily at the first sign of defeat.

In February, I applied for a Twitch subscribe button. They got back to me with the standard “We receive a lot of applications and have to choose wisely. Please apply again in 2-4 weeks if you want.” So I’ve been researching more what makes a Twitch channel great. I’ve come to realize that it’s truly about building a community. I’m going to focus more on that and hope to make any viewers that stop by my channel feel excited and welcome to be there. So I’ve been thinking of ways to do that and hope we can all grow more soon and maybe reapply for the button in a few more weeks.
I also applied for a partnership with Guild Wars 2. I sent it in once at the beginning of February and another at the end. No reply. I’m guessing they might not be accepting new partners right now. They recently announced that their Game Director (Colin Johanson) was leaving. I imagine there is a lot going on there. So for now I am not going to worry about that partnership and may reapply another time if it seems like they are interested in accepting new creators.
Probably the biggest bummer was seeing the response to my job application. I submitted it online for a pretty cool company in my area and felt super confident I would be a perfect fit for them. They never called me and a few weeks later I finally checked my submission on their site and saw the “received” was changed to “reviewed; not selected”. I admit I was pretty upset they didn’t even want a phone interview. It felt as if I wasn’t given a fair chance at proving myself. However, I have learned from this how important your application and resume must be. Not only for this job but for all the things I’ve been applying for lately. I can’t just assume what I put down is going to land me everything I want. I have to keep improving and growing. That means I can’t lose momentum here. If I continue to sit back and twiddle my thumbs nothing is going to change. So it’s up to me to push myself to become better!

February wasn’t all drab. Tsum Tsum Tuesday was fun because they released the Star Wars collection. Pixie had a positive check up at the vet. I attended the Dallas Boat Show and saw some cool and sparkly boats. I started playing RuneScape which is actually really fun! I was able to have lunch with some family I hadn’t seen in awhile. Valentine’s Day was a blast as I hosted some giveaways on stream and received the cutest dragon plushies from my parents.

I uploaded my first wig review video that I worked pretty hard on. My raid group on GW2 has progressed so much that we actually kill all 3 bosses in less than a hour. A super kind gift arrived from Jerome J. who got me a Hogwarts robe from my Amazon wishlist. And finally thanks to the generous donations from my Twitch stream I upgraded from my 9 year old desk chair to a fancy DXRacer Racing Series chair! I plan to make a whole review post about it so be on the lookout for that soon.

After typing and rereading that last paragraph, I realize that I am still guilty of dwelling on the negative. I mean SO many great and happy things happened in February. Sure some bad was mixed in there, but one of the great things about blogging is discovering yourself in the process. Had I not typed that out and reflected I may have never seen how truly good life can be. Thank you all for sharing this journey with me and I hope you have a great week!

Wig Review! Kamo Wig from Amazon

Hey everyone! I made my first “review video” for my YouTube channel!!! It’s all about a wig I have been wearing a lot lately that I purchased from Amazon. As you may know, I own and wear a lot of wigs. I’ve been meaning to make reviews for them so I’m really excited to finally share this with you!
The Kamo 26″ Layered Wig was purchased from Amazon by ME! I was not paid or asked to make this review. I was looking for a natural wig to wear on my Twitch streams and came across it on Amazon. It had decent reviews and for only $16.99 I figured it was worth the try. Turns out it’s one of my all time favorite wigs now! I loved it so much I bought two – one to leave long and another to trim a little shorter. I’ve been wearing it a lot lately and it looks and feels very natural. Please check out my video for more details and a better look at it! This wig would be great for cosplayers or anyone that is on a budget and looking for a nice blonde wig.

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #5

What is your name?
Vulkaane

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?
Or how long have you been playing?
I started playing in August 2013

What made you want to try the game?
A few of my friends and I were looking into new MMOS to play and we had some recommendations on trying out Guild Wars 2.

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?
Elementalist because it’s different than what most people are used to. The different type of play style really caught my attention and I love every minute of it.

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?
I always usually check out the Gem Store first. Love seeing what new things Arena Net has added to the game. Then I usually go to my guild hall and hang out with a few guildies at the Guild Hall bar and talk about what world boss we will kill first. 😛

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
I have bought Heart of Thorns. Honestly I love it. The New Profession is really fun, the maps are HUGE and I really love gliding around everywhere. I also like how the events are more immersive in Heart of Thorns.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?
First goal is to finish map completion on my Revenant.
Second goal is to make Nevermore and Astralaria.

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
My Guild is Apocalyptic Armageddon(AARM) on Tarnished Coast Server. We are 5 guilds on a single server and we participate in every aspect of GW2 (PvE,PvP,WvW etc.).

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?
I would like to see Super Adventure Box return to GW2 and maybe even Dragon Bash.

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
I would say Lion’s Arch because all the trading that goes along in there. Lion’s Arch has a lot of different aspects that most cities would not have. And let’s face it, a giant wedding ceremony spot on a big rock is pretty awesome 🙂

Staying Positive

So what’s up! What’s been going on! Well I’ve been trying out some new things recently that haven’t gone exactly as planned. So let’s chat about it!

First up, I applied for a Twitch Partnership. This means I could have a “subscribe” button on my page and make a little bit of money while also being able to give more back to my viewers! This is the second time I applied and once again I was declined. Twitch didn’t tell me exactly what I need to work on, but they did say to apply again in about 2-4 weeks if I feel passionate about it. So I decided instead of accepting this as a defeat (which I admit I kind of did the first time) that I will keep my momentum going and push even harder and try to apply again. I mentioned this on stream a few days ago. Everyone was very supportive and kind!! I think if we can just keep doing what we’re doing maybe the stars will align.
Another thing I applied for was an ArenaNet Partnership. They offer a sponsorship program now for creators and since that’s basically the only game I live and breathe for I figured it’d be a perfect fit for me. Well unfortunately they never replied or accepted me. I applied for this several weeks ago and still haven’t heard back. I suppose I will try again because I feel like I’d be a great match for them. It’s just hard when no one tells you what you are doing wrong! I see others that are about the same size/level as my site and channel with sponsorships. Maybe I’m just not active enough? Well I also won’t let this bring me down. I gotta use the passion I have to propel forward and apply again!
Finally, I applied for a job in real life that’s totally different from what I’m used to. It’s a position I know I would excel at and in a field I’d love to grow in. I won’t go into the details, but long story short all last year I applied for several different jobs (both in and out of the hair industry) and nothing seemed to click. So when this job popped up nearby I was very excited to apply! However, once again I haven’t received a reply. I believe in myself and that I’m totally qualified for all that I’m seeking. So I just need to learn how to be more patient. Things don’t happen overnight and doors don’t magically open for you. Sometimes you gotta prove to the world what you are capable of.
Last year, I let little things bring me down pretty quickly. There were other battles I haven’t mentioned, too. I’m trying my best to keep a positive outlook and change the direction of my feelings after facing a setback. It’s a little unlike me to post or talk about these kind of things because I do try very hard to have a good attitude on social media. my blog, and now my stream. But you know what? Shit happens sometimes! Thank you Forest Gump for teaching me that. It’s how you react to it that defines you. So I’m staying upbeat and looking forward to whatever comes my way.

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #4

What is your name?
Archon. Archonbrood on twitch. My main character is Juneko.

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?
Or how long have you been playing?
Since beta. Pretty much haven’t stopped, though sometimes i play it more casually.

What made you want to try the game?
Been playing GW1 since it was beta, so i was waiting for it since it was announced.

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?
I love my Thief. I think party i really like the character i made, which is a bit of a story itself, as well as the high risk thief gameplay.

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?
Look for my girl, Bell <3 .="" a="" br="" brown="" currently="" do="" dye="" farming="" flax="" for="" like="" make="" mats="" or="" pigment="" potatoes="" run="" salvage="" scribing.="" to="" usually="">Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
Yes. I generally like the new events and meta’s. But i think they go on for too long sometimes. Also, tangled depths is a real pain to navigate.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?
Considering making another legendary. Need to map complete my revenant at some point and finish story on him.

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
Currently in the lunar wolves [WPAK]. 490+ members, pretty active, but kind of quiet atm due to not a whole lot of new content atm.

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?
Finish the rest of the new legendaries, including the back piece. remove all the bugged and fail events needed for their collections. some of the new adventures really need some tweaking, as do the new zones, it would be nice if they were more casual friendly. skill balance could use some work, it would be nice if all classes were viable in raids, pvp, etc.

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
LA probably, i like the coast. Although i wouldnt mind wandering around rata sum and pushing random buttons 😀

My Top 5 Fictional Valentines

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and as a single gal I couldn’t help but daydream about who my favorite fictional Valentine would be! It’s no surprise that most of these are characters in shows I’m currently hooked on!
Barry Allen aka The Flash

In the show Barry has taken a few lucky girls on some interesting dates from bowling, to coffee, to lavish dinners. I imagine Barry would be fun to spend an evening with just chatting and laughing. He’s laid back and smart and let’s not forget a super hero! 😛

Jace Wayland

I’m going to save my opinion of the new Shadowhunters show for another post. (It’s not the best.) So let’s focus on Jace the character! Sure he may be a little self-absorbed at times but you can guarantee your date with him wouldn’t be boring. I actually like how in the show he is portrayed as very caring and protective. And he’s not bad to look at either! 😉

Poe Dameron

After I saw The Force Awakens I had trouble choosing a favorite character because they were all fantastic. Poe stood out to me the most, however, with his charm, strength and overall positive attitude. I’d love to go on a date with him because I am sure he’d be a gentleman with lots of cool stories!

James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser

If Jamie Fraser from Outlander is NOT on your fictional Valentine list then you are missing out! He has got to be one of the most romantic and thoughtful characters I’ve experienced in a book and show. He would quite literally risk his life for you so just imagine how great of a Valentine he’d be!

Augustus Waters

He may not have super human strength or be able to fly an X-wing, but Augustus from The Fault in Our Stars has a magic all his own. From his witty comebacks to his deep thinking, he would grant you meaningful and memorable moments. Not only that, but he’d be patient, kindhearted, and thankful for any time spent with you. He’d be a perfect Valentine. <3

I’d love to hear who your top 5 are so be sure to leave a comment!
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

Hey everyone! I filmed a short vlog for January to give you all an update on what’s been going on lately! I also talked some about Pixie and how she’s feeling. I’m really looking forward to this year being a good one. 2015 was kind of weird but so far January has been pretty awesome so I am hopeful for more exciting things to come! Thanks for checking out the video and subscribe if you’d like!

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #3

What is your name?
Ombr

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?
Or how long have you been playing?
I have been playing GW2 since the first public beta release!

What made you want to try the game?
I’m a fan of GW1, so playing GW2 was a normal transition. I have been playing GW1 since the release of Factions. The new mechanics that came with GW2 (jumping, swimming, dynamic combat, etc) got me really excited for GW2.

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?
My main is a thief. In fact, I have three thieves..! I like to play Revenant and Necromancer too. I like the fast-paced playstyle involved with thief and the high burst dps.

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?
I usually craft my daily mats and then run around in Rata Sum until I find something to do!

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
I bought HoT and I’m really disappointed in this expension. Anet didn’t deliver. The new maps are stunningly beautiful, but hard to navigate and confusing because of the different layers and because the map doesn’t give you good indications of at what layer the things are. Plus, no new dungeons and FOTM at release, no content for casual players, only 4 maps, no new major city, and the content of this expansion is really just 4 meta events that are on a timer.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?
I want to craft some legendary weapons and the legendary backpack. As for the legendary armor .. we’ll see down the road how that goes!

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
Dungeons and Dragons [DnD] for the win.

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?
Give us more content and bring dungeons back.

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
Rata Sum, cause I ain’t no bookah.

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #2

What is your name?
My name is Nuzzle! My main characters name is Elzzun (spell nuzzle backwards 83)

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?
Or how long have you been playing?
I started playing GW2 a little over 2 years ago! But I wasn’t an everyday player until around the time of The Killer Marionette Boss event!

What made you want to try the game?
A bunch of my IRL friends were playing it and when it went on sale it was suggested that I join them!

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?
My favorite professions is definitely my Necromancer. She was my first toon, and despite all the terrible things people said about Necromancers back when I started, I never listened and learned to really enjoy the class!  Now that Reaper is a thing I love playing her even more!

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?
Usually when I log in I form up a party with my 4 daily-doing friends! Together we tackle the PvE, PvP and Fractal Dailies!

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
Yes! I pre-ordered it as soon as it was a thing!  I love the new maps in HoT; they are pretty and the events are fun!  The only thing I wish was different was that the event chains weren’t so… long. It makes it hard to complete them if you don’t have a long time to be in game.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?
Right now my goal is to learn how to raid. I am working on gearing my mesmer as a DPS build. Next I’ll need to find some friends willing to teach me the ropes of the raid!

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
I am in two guilds that are worth a mention.  The first real quild I was ever part of is [WPAK]. The guild has changed quite a bit since I joined and while I find myself participating less and less (even though I still rep all the time) I made MANY good friends through this guild! Plus we do missions together every week!

I would also like to shoutout to my non-rep guild DnD full of just a small amount of close friends! We’ve come a long way for a guild where we barely rep. We have a guild hall and are able to do missions which is great when I have to miss [WPAK]’S missions due to real life happenings!

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?
Eh. I’m not really one to complain about games.  My only real issue with GW2 is load screen times, but that’s not really ANet’s fault as much as the fact that I play on a laptop lol.

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
OH GOSH this is hard! The world is so pretty! When I first started playing Caledon Forest really stuck out to me. It might be because I love nature and hiking IRL and I think it would be fun to visit Caledon Forest and just go exploring!

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #1

What is your name?
In game my main character is Audeley and on Twitch I am OMGlitzy.

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?
Or how long have you been playing?
I started playing Guild Wars 2 about two weeks after it was launched. I took a break from the game for a few months and eventually returned full time when the Festival of the Four Winds event was live. I’ve now been playing pretty much every single day since then!

What made you want to try the game?
I was a long time EverQuest 2 player and several of my guildies were talking about the release of Guild Wars 2. I was intrigued that it didn’t come with a subscription plan, and my brother (who is also an avid gamer) said it would be a game I would likely enjoy. After I bought it and played with a few of my friends I was instantly hooked. The amazing graphics, friendly community, and simple yet effective UI really pulled me in to becoming a full time player.

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?
The very first character I made was a warrior, but the one I played the most was a necromancer. I’ve always enjoyed classes that had a companion and I usually prefer mages over heavy classes. It wasn’t until after my break that I eventually made a ranger and fell in love with their gameplay. I enjoyed the search for new pets (gotta catch ’em all!) and exploring Tyria with my trusty friend. Now with the elite specialization – Druid – I love my ranger even more!

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?
I’ll usually check the trading post to see if I have any gold or items waiting for me to pick up. After that I will do the daily activities. Even after I complete three of them to get the achievement I still go on to do the others out of enjoyment. I’ll look up boss timers to see which is about to spawn and also check with my guild to see if they are organizing any fun events.

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
Yes! I pre-ordered HoT the moment it became available. I was also able to participate in a few of the beta events. My first impression was this is not going to be an easy expansion. The mobs hit harder, the terrain was more difficult to navigate, and the events required a lot of teamwork. These are all good things, of course! The challenge that HoT has provided was a welcome one. The new maps and events have become slightly easier with time and experience, but still require coordination. I wish the story had a little more depth and detail to it and that some of the events were not always centered around timers, but overall I still find myself enjoying the new zones months after HoT was released.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?
I went head first into earning all the mastery points so that I could begin making Astralaria – the new legendary axe. This was a big project to take on since there wasn’t much information about the new collections yet. I worked really hard on completing everything and made Astralaria in about a month. Now that I have that done I have been taking things a bit slower. I’m working on collecting all of the Chak weapons, mapping the new zones on alt characters, completing the story achievements, and also farm gold to buy gathering nodes for my home instance.

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
The guild I am in is Ethereal Guardians [EG]. I’ve really enjoyed being a part of their community because of how active it is! They have frequent events each week like raid training, guild missions, and organized world boss kills. Their TeamSpeak is always full of people chatting and willing to help, and their forums offer an excellent source of information about profession builds and fight mechanics. Overall I have felt very proud to be a member of [EG]!

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?
I like to think ANet is super busy working on a lot of great content for the game (*wink*) so I don’t typically complain too much about things that might be broken.. However, I think the LFG tool does need to be revamped and I wish my mini pet wouldn’t disappear all the time. Like many people, I’d like to see more armor skins added to the game. I don’t think enough were put in with the expansion. Recently, I was incredibly happy they added the shared inventory slots and the ability to always show hidden objects so you no longer have to hold the Ctrl key down. Yay ANet!

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
My first thought was I’d like to visit The Grove simply because it is so enchanting. It’s where I like to take a lot of screen shots of my characters. After thinking more about this question, though, I’d probably want to visit Divinity’s Reach. Since that was the first area I ever explored in the game it has a sense of “home” for me. To see it in real life would be truly extraordinary. I can imagine myself walking through the Central Plaza and gazing upon the entrance to the Queen’s throne room with a wonder and excitement!
