My Cosplay Interviews

A few weeks ago, I was interviewed for some pretty cool websites. I had shared these interviews on my Facebook and Twitter, but I don’t think I added the links to a post here on my blog. Please check out their sites and give them a follow!
First up is Comic Book Divas. I was able to meet Bob in person a few times at different conventions in town. They always have a booth set up with tshirts and cosplayer photos for sale. Their website offers a news article section, contests, and showcase real women in their comics.
The next interview was done by Zero Fortitude. These guys produce a fun podcast as well as articles to read. They discuss and review a wide range of geek culture from movies to anime to comics. And of course, cosplay!
I feel very honored to be selected by entertainment sites for interviews. I am such a newbie cosplayer, and have so much to learn, but I am grateful my craft has been noticed. So please please check out their sites, follow their podcasts and updates, and show them some love.

On a personal note.. I am going to SOE Live in Las Vegas this week! So be sure to follow my Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for photos while I am there. When I get back in town I will work on a blog post about it. I am so so soooooo excited to hang out with my guild members from EverQuest 2. This convention is going to be a blast.
:+:+:+:+:+:
What geeky websites do you follow for news, updates and interviews?
Anyone going to SOE Live?

  1. Thanks for linking to the interviews! It's so interesting to hear more about your cosplay experiences. It's great that you were selected to be interviewed for these pieces, and hopefully there will be more to come.

Enjoy SOE Live! I won't be attending, but it should be fun! I'll look forward to the EQ:Next (EQN? What are people calling this?) reveal whenever it becomes available to the general public, but I'm excited that you'll get to see it live and in person. I don't know how far along in development it is, but maybe they'll even have live demos that you can play while you're there.

Outfit of the Day

Haven’t posted in a few days because I’ve had an eventful weekend! Finally saw the Zelda Symphony of the Goddesses and made a trip to Houston for the Renaissance Festival. Trust me I have loads of pics from each! So be on the lookout for some good blog posts soon. Also this weekend is the Dallas Fan Days convention so I will have lots of pics from that too.

For now here is a pic of my outfit from today. I got this dress at Urban Outfitters. Pixie insisted on a hug during this photoshoot 😉

OMGLITZY: Review: Fresh Brewed Tee

Review: Fresh Brewed Tee

I recently teamed up with Fresh Brewed Tee and have an exciting review to share! If you haven’t heard of them they are a family owned company that offers geeky/pop culture t-shirts. They stand out from other t-shirt companies because they make each design in a variety of sizes for any body shape!

I’ve had trouble in the past with other companies because their sizes were ill-fitting. The girl shirts were way too small, the boys were too big .. It was very frustrating! So I am super pleased to tell you that the quality of shirt that Fresh Brewed Tee offers is great! When I first received my shirt, I noticed right away how thick the material was. The design was also printed incredibly well, centered correctly, and won’t be fading anytime soon. I can’t tell you how happy I am that a woman’s size fit me, too. I am pretty tall (5’9″) and have a long torso. I usually stay away from ordering girl sizes because they are almost always too short for me. And the larges will be way too baggy! This shirt I am wearing in the photos is a woman’s large and fits me perfectly. It wasn’t too baggy at all, was long enough to look great with jeans, and the softness of the shirt was super comfortable.
Plushies not included – But aren’t they cute! 😛
They have unique limited edition t-shirts that will cover any geek’s favorite fandom, and a design contest is available for artists to enter! http://www.freshbrewedtee.com
If you’re interested in purchasing a shirt from Fresh Brewed Tee then be sure to use this coupon code
 FBTGLITZYGEEKGIRL1
to save $1 when you order! It can be used more than once, too! Which is great since they regularly add new designs!
:+:+:+:+:
Will you be ordering from Fresh Brewed Tee?
What shirt design is your favorite?

  1. I'm always looking for new geeky t-shirts. Thanks for the new site.

  2. OMG! Is that Stitch in a Jayne hat?!?!
And it's nice to know they have comfortable women's sizes. I like a "girly" fit, but not a constraining one. I love band tee fits which is probably why they make up a majority of my wardrobe! So these sound like they would be fantastic!
Thanks for the code and share!!! 🙂

  3. Oh my gosh!!!! I am so in love. Limited edition shirts are so rad and I've never heard of Fresh brewed. I'm going to check them every day now.

OMGLITZY: Snow White Makeup Contest

Snow White Makeup Contest

Hosted by Doe Deere Blogazine and Lime Crime Makeup is a contest to win a Lime Crime gift pack. All you have to do is submit a photo to the event on Facebook by June 11 and 16 finalists will be chosen by the staff for the public to vote on. The photo with the most “Likes” will win!

Here is the photo I submitted and what I used:

Face: Almay Clear Complexion liquid foundation, Pur Minerals pressed powder
Blush: MAC “Sweetness” and MAC “Delicacy” irridescent powder
Eyes: Kat Von D eyeshadows “Mad Max” and “Swan Song” and MAC’s “Black Tied”,  Great Lash mascara, Kat Von D  “Puro Amor” eyeliner, Urban Decay “Distortion” eyeliner glitter
Lips: Maybeline “Very Cherry” and Bonne Belle “Raspberry Sorbet”

A lot of people have been complaining about other entries being “too professional” .. Well I agree some photos do look overly photoshopped or are being “recycled” from an old photo shoot.. I want to be clear that my pic is original! I used Photoshop to crop the image and I did adjust the exposure. I had to take it myself (took lots of pics because my arm kept showing up in the mirror, lol) and I had pretty bad lighting in my bedroom. My camera is a Sony CyberShot DSC-WX10 and my hair and outfit were obviously done by myself as well.

I’ll let you know if I make it to the finals! I hope I do! 🙂

P.S.   Here are some other shots I tried to attempt .. 😛

OMGLITZY: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones: Movie Review

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones: Movie Review

If you’ve read any other reviews about the first movie in The Mortal Instruments series then you must think it isn’t good. Well I saw the movie last Thursday and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. However, I prepared myself by expecting a bad movie. I mean.. that’s what all the reviews were saying! Even fan’s comments on the official Facebook page were saying it wasn’t good. So I have this theory that I went into the movie expecting it to be bad .. and it exceeded my expectations! LOL  .. But seriously.. I loved it! I’ve read the first two books and I’m halfway through the third one. There’s already 5 out and a 6th one coming May 27, 2014.

My outfit when I saw the movie!

So I’m going to give a quick little SPOILER-FREE review here, then I’ll give another more in depth review. If you’re looking for a fantasy action movie with some chick flick romance then this is it. I love vampires, werewolves, angels and demons, etc.. so the dark characters intrigued me. It’s seriously got some cool action! There are demons that are so real looking it scared me and fight scenes with some serious skills involved. I think guys will enjoy that side of the movie and girls can enjoy the lovey dovey teenage romance that blooms between the main characters. It’s NOT LIKE TWILIGHT. Sure it’s a young boy with superpowers and a young girl that lives a normal life.. but the dynamics definitely change later on. I’d also like to point out the acting didn’t suck in this movie. It was a great mix of humor, drama and suspense. I loved that Clary is shown all roughened up from the fight scenes with wet, dirty hair and messed up makeup. She came across very real to me. My only complaint with the actors was Magnus Bane. His performance was very dull .. and he’s supposed to be quite an eccentric character. He sounded like he was just reading lines off paper. *yawn* … But the casting for Jace was spot on to me. He was just sarcastic enough to be funny, but incredibly brave and heroic to make it easy to fall in love with him. And finally my last thumbs up goes to the soundtrack! I have had it on repeat since I got it last week! My favorite songs are by Colbie Caillat, AFI, and Jessi J … this soundtrack is also sure to please both guys and girls. The romantic songs are sweet and touching.. while the techno/rock songs are sure to get you dancing in your chair. In all, this movie was magical, gothic, suspenseful, and fun. I enjoyed it a lot and I plan on seeing it again!

:: WARNING:: SPOILER REVIEW::

If you haven’t read the books or seen the movie then DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER!

I absolutely HATE getting spoiled (when I don’t want to be) so I am trying to give plenty of warning 🙂

My review of the movie WITH SPOILERS is that it was definitely different from the book! However, I think the changes made sense for the movie. As others have said, the first half of the movie stayed very true to the story in the book, with only minor changes. Then, once Clary and the others talk to Magnus Bane I felt like the plot shifted a little.

In the movie, Simon’s kidnapped by the vampires because they want the mortal cup from Clary.. so he’s used as bait. In the book, the vampires (as well as all the other downworlders) could care less about the cup. So when everyone finally ends up back at the Institute, it’s shown that Simon was bitten by a vampire. This isn’t brought up until book two, but I think it was a good move on the screenwriters part because it will pull the audience that hasn’t read the books in to wanting to know what happens to Simon. So eventually Clary figures out where the cup is hidden, and the scene with Dorothea and the shadowhunters was really cool to watch! She was super creepy when she turned into a demon. But once Clary gets back to the Institute with the cup, Hodge summons Valentine through the portal. Now what confuses me here, is they show Clary’s mom in the portal and she jumps after her.. But then later her mom is at the Institute? So was she always at the Institute? I can see why fans of the book may not “like” the movie because it does stray from the original plot a bit and gets confusing. I do like, though, that the big battle is now happening at the Institute rather than bringing in another location like in the book. And they do say that demons have never stepped foot in an Institute before.. making this a pretty terrifying event. So Valentine summons demons in, Hodge is helping him, Clary has jumped through the portal to try and find her mom but ends up at Luke’s, and the other shadowhunters are tending to Alec upstairs who got hurt at Dorothea’s house.

My next confusing question was what did Valentine say to Hodge about Jace and Clary? I’ve tried googling it and I just can’t figure it out exactly. I know he admitted that *MAJOR SPOILER* they are NOT brother and sister… and Hodge exclaims that telling them that are ARE related will break their hearts…. But WHY did Valentine want to break their hearts in the first place? I never heard a conversation about why it was important to keep the two apart. Maybe this is because I’m only book 3.. but I know the fandom was kinda bummed that they told the audience they aren’t really related. But I think this is good so the audience isn’t creeped out by possible incest.. and makes people eager to see if they can eventually be together. So Clary and Luke and the other werewolves come back to fight and try and save her mom .. And Jace finds Valentine who tells him he’s Clary’s brother .. and then I guess when Clary comes in ready to kill Valentine, Jace wants her to stop and listen first? But then Valentine gets mad and starts attacking her and like the good hero Jace is he starts defending her … *swoon* … Well it would be romantic if they didn’t just get told they were related!

But then to distract Valentine she pretends to throw the mortal cup into the portal (where it would get lost in limbo) And this pisses Valentine off.. so he goes for it and she eventually gives it to him .. And I’m like WTF Clary! Because in the book Valentine gets to keep the cup so I figured this was how it ended… Well nope.. major change here is that she kept the real cup hidden.. and must have grabbed the replica (shown way way earlier in the movie) and gave him that one. So I thought that was kinda cool! And now.. we have a reason for Valentine to still be after Clary .. He wants the cup.

So .. I can understand why they changed certain parts of the storyline. It will make having sequels better in my opinion. And while I’m okay with them telling the audience that Jace and Clary aren’t related… I still don’t understand why Valentine went to the effort of fabricating the lie in the first place.

And that’s my unprofessional review of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones!

:+:+:+:+:+:

I would love to discuss this movie with y’all and maybe get some of my questions answered but please be considerate of those who may not have seen/read it yet and put “SPOILER” in your comment if you choose to post! Thanks 🙂

OMGLITZY: Tutorial: Jessie from Toy Story Cosplay

Tutorial: Jessie from Toy Story Cosplay

YEEEEE HAAAAW!!
I’m super excited to share with y’all a root tootin’ fun cosplay! It’s Jessie from Toy Story! I was inspired to make this costume after my friend Garrett mentioned he wanted to build a Buzz Lightyear cosplay. Jessie had been on my dream list, and I think she looks best when paired with other Toy Story characters. So Garrett and I chatted about it and we both got to working on our costumes! I was so happy with how they turned out. Garrett looked amazing as Buzz! Also, huge thank you to Neither Noir for taking this photo of us. If you’d like to view all of my photos from All-Con then check out my Facebook Album.
Now onto the tutorial!

This was the reference photo I used for most of Jessie’s outfit. It is a very fun and easy costume to make. I would definitely recommend it for any first time cosplayers.

First, I painted a white button down shirt with yellow fabric paint on the front and back. I used masking tape to get a clean line at the bottom. Be sure to put cardboard inside your shirt because the paint bleeds.

Then I used red puff paint to line the button and add the swirlies. I was nervous about getting them symmetrical and wish I had made the swirls bigger.
To make up for the small swirls I decided to add an extra button in the yellow part. Jessie only has two buttons, but after wearing this costume I actually would like to add a fourth.
The cuffs were made out of yellow sheet foam. I cut it to fit my arm and added white sheet foam “tabs” to the side. I outlined the tabs in silver sharpie to give it a shadow.

Next, use puff paint to make more swirls then add buttons to the cuffs. These are the same size as the ones I used on my shirt.

To wear the arm cuffs glue velcro to each side. This way you sandwich it around your arm.

For the belt buckle I cut shapes out of foam similar to Jessie’s for a “longhorn look”
I primed it with Gesso then painted it gold. I attach the buckle with sticky velcro to one of my dad’s brown belts. This way I don’t ruin a belt.

Since I didn’t have any yellow ribbon, I made her bow out of extra yellow foam. I made a pattern first and found a yellow rubber band.

Then I hot glued the foam to the rubber band.
Jessie has red hair in a long braid so I would recommend this wig by Epic Cosplay Wigs. Mine is actually one from Etsy but it was poorly made so I will not recommend it! I will go into this more when I post about my Ariel cosplay ^.^

For the chaps, I bought some cow pattern fabric and laid my jeans on top of it. Then I traced my jeans onto the fabric allowing extra for the seam and a slight flare shape. I added little notches so I could line up my pieces easily when I sewed them together. Each chap was kinda like making a large pillow case. This way there was cow fabric on the front and back sides.
Be sure to write ANDY on the bottom of your boot! I just used a black sharpie 🙂
Jessie’s makeup is very fresh and natural. She has really rosy cheeks and big eyes. Try not to put too much eyeliner on the inner corners to make yours look wider. Give yourself a dark brow and add some pink blush to the tip of your nose for an added glow!

I attached my chaps to my jeans with safety pins. I tried using sticky velcro (so I wouldn’t ruin a pair of jeans) but the velcro did not stick! Small crisis the morning of the con lol … But safety pins worked fine. If I wear this again I would buy some cheap jeans at a thrift store or Walmart and actually sew the chaps on. Also, I added tabs to the bottom sides of my chaps by glueing them onto the back.

I found my hat on eBay. It’s a used official Toy Story licensed hat. Sadly I can’t find any others online to link for you! But this tutorial gives good tips on making one.

My boots are from Ami Club Wear. They sell really high quality shoes for great prices! Most of their shoes are great for costumes because they come in a lot of colors. They also ship very quickly.

Here I am with my friend Garrett as Buzz Lightyear at All-Con. He made his costume, too!!! He looked incredible, and I had a blast walking around with him. The Grouches are also my friends Scotty and Courtney. They also made their own costumes!

    1. I have only purchased from Arda Wigs and Gothic Lolita Wigs online. There's also Epic Cosplay Wigs but all will be around the same price. Which really isn't that expensive when you see how great the quality is. If you want cheap you will get a cheap quality wig unfortunately. You could try eBay.

OMGLITZY: VOTE: Which Hair Color?!

VOTE: Which Hair Color?!

Well it’s about that time to change up my hairdo. I can tell when the roots are bad and the color fades unevenly. I’ve had a mixed opinion on the HOT pink – some prefer it pastel – so I thought it’d be fun to ask my readers!
I am pretty open to try anything. My least favorite, however, is orange. So no orange.
Here is a pic of my hair from yesterday. The pink is faded and the black is nearly brown now.
What I would like to do: bleach out the black in my hair and turn it red. Then lighten the top to a cotton candy pink!
Here are some other inspiration photos courtesy of my Pinterest:
I’ve never done green!
The only reason to ever do orange would be to cosplay Leeloo from The Fifth Element! lol
(Hmm .. maybe for SciFi Expo??)
So what’s your vote?

1 comment:

  1. Lol. When you said orange was your least favorite, I was thinking of Leeloo. I was going to post a picture of her, but you beat me to it!

9 Easy Steps for Everyday Makeup

I’ve been wanting to do a makeup tutorial for a long time, but it’s kinda hard to photograph each step on your own! Someday I would love to make a video tutorial. For now I have done my best to show you how to do an easy, everyday look! This is a glitzy post so sorry fellas for the lack of geekiness. There might be a few of you that enjoy it 😛
What I used:
Almay Clear Complexion
MAC Concealer Stick
PUR Minerals Powder and Brush
Too Faced Bronzer and Blush Brush
Naked Eyeshadow Palette by Urban Decay
Pencil Eyeliner by Kat Von D
Great Lash Mascara by Maybelline
Lip Lites by Bonne Bell

Step 1 – Foundation: I use Almay Clear Complexion because it helps heal blemishes. Use a makeup sponge instead of your fingers to apply evenly to entire face.
Step 2 – Concealer: Put a little concealer on problem areas. For me I use it under my eyes and on any blemishes.

Step 3 – Powder: I love PUR Minerals Powder because it is lightweight on my skin. It goes on smoothly and helps prevent shine.
Step 4 – Blush: I had been mixing brown and pink blushes together until I found this bronzer by Too Faced. It works great on your entire face or you can focus it directly to your cheeks.

Step 4 (cont) – Blush: It’s important to note that you want to apply blush below your cheek bone. Its purpose is to create a shadow that chisels your face. This will give the illusion of a slimmer facial structure and make your cheek bones pop!

Step 5 – Eyeshadow: This may be the most difficult step for some. So keep it simple! I like Urban Decay’s Naked Palette because it has a matte finish. This will look more natural in person and will also photograph lovely! I used the medium brown in the crease of my eye and the light cream on the lid and under the eyebrow for highlights. Be sure to blend well!

Step 6 – Eyebrows: Using a blunt eyeshadow brush and the dark brown from the Naked Palette, carefully brush on some pigment to your brows. Don’t go overboard – you just want to add some fullness.

Step 7 – Eyeliner: I like my eyeliner dark and somewhat thick. So I applied mine to the lower waterline as well as the lash line. I go to a slight angle on the upper side – not quite a cat eye but it gives the illusion that your eyelashes are longer. Then using my blunt eyeshadow brush, I smudge it some for a smokier look.

Step 8 – Mascara: One coat of Great Lash Mascara is all you need for an everyday look. For a night out try an eyelash curler and multiple coats of mascara. I only apply it to my top lashes because I always end up with black spots if I do the bottom lashes.
Step 9 – Lip Gloss: This is my favorite step! I think a shiny lip ties the whole look together. I get chapped lips all the time so I use a gloss instead of lipstick. And I like lighter tones for my lip since I do a darker eye.

Before and After!
With a little makeup my skin looks smooth and my eyes stand out more. Since I am in the process of bleaching my hair it’s important to add some color to my face. This look is easy, quick (about 10 mins) and keeps me from looking like a zombie!

How many steps are in your daily makeup routine?
Do you have a favorite brand of makeup?
Any tips you want to share?

My Favorite Movies

Movies are so expensive these days.. So I don’t really go to the theater much. If I go to one then I must REALLY like it! I do enjoy going to midnight showings at theaters. It’s fun to see the “super fans” all dressed up and waiting in line for hours with me. Most of my favorite movies are either chick flicks or fantasy. Although there’s one major exception to that.. I’m sure you’ll notice when you read it. 🙂

In no particular order:

How To  Deal
-I remember seeing this in the theater a couple of times in high school. It really portrays everything life can throw at you (marriage, divorce, break ups, friendships, pregnancy, death, etc) but in simple terms so as not to make the movie feel too serious. I love the music in it as well.

The Departed
-This is my curve ball I mentioned earlier. It’s definitely not a chick flick.. and no way near fantasy. It’s more of a drug lord movie (lol) .. So I’m not sure why I love it so much. Maybe Leonardo Di Caprio has something to do with it? Or the use of the Dropkick Murphy’s songs? 😛

Empire Records
-This move is just all around COOL. Each character is so different and interesting. They all have great qualities and then major problems at the same time. One of my favorite things to do as a kid was go to a CD store. We had one called Hastings back home, and it’s still a place I like just hanging out in. This movie also has one of my favorite quotes – “Damn the man!”

Tangled
-Probably the newest movie on my list (besides Hunger Games). I am a big big big Disney girl. I love all the princesses. And until Tangled my favorite Disney movies were Aladdin and Hercules. Tangled was beautifully animated. And Mandy Moore as the voice of Rapunzel is such a joy! Her songs really touch me. I’m a just a sappy romantic I guess.

Sweet November
-In this film the main character is very odd. She knows she’s a little out there.. and she uses it to help random strangers that are trapped in a business-focused world find their inner freedom. I relate to Charlize Theron’s character.. I live in my own world, too. I cry every time I watch it. And I just love the song “Only Time” by Enya.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World
-Based off the comics by Bryan Lee O’Malley, this adaptation is humorous, game-like, and greatly casted! As seen in my Comic Con post, I am a big fan of Ramona Flowers. I laugh out loud at certain scenes and also enjoyed the movie’s soundtrack. Check out “Black Sheep” by Metric.

The Goonies
-There really is nothing better than a good 80’s movie. There are so many good quotes from this. I actually have “Slick Shoes” tattooed on my ankles. The cast totally rocked and the plot is interesting throughout. I enjoy watching this when I’m in need of something simple but adventurous. No need for crazy CGI.. just good a ole pirate treasure hunt.

Stardust
-When I rented Stardust I wasn’t sure if it was going to be any good. I had read a cool quote from the movie online, but also read bad reviews. So I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. It’s a beautiful fantasy kingdom, and the cast was very funny at times (Robert De Niro in drag!)  I just wish they played up the love story a little more. Here’s the quote I liked, A philosopher once asked, “Are we human because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are human?” Pointless, really… “Do the stars gaze back?” Now *that’s* a question.”

Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter, Twilight & The Hunger Games
-I grouped these together because they are all a series. Although I haven’t read LoTR, the others were all favorite books of mine. So naturally I love the movies! Any time LoTR is on tv you bet I am watching it. Although it’s long, I can’t help but be mesmerized by the enchanting story. I’ll agree that Twilight has some bad acting in it. But I’m still a Twi-hard. 😛 I also have loved Harry Potter since the first book was released. So following it for all these years has given me some magical memories. I am new to The Hunger Games.. but I was instantly hooked after reading the 3 books in 2 days. The movie was great in my opinion. The cast did a wonderful job, and I am looking forward to the next movies.

Honorable mentions:
The Princess Bride, Enchanted, 27 Dresses, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Labyrinth, Ever After, Underworld, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, & Dirty Dancing

After typing this I realized I like quite a few movies! I really really want to watch The Princess Bride and Tangled now. I’m sure I left out some good ones, too.
What is your all time favorite movie? Can you recommend any movies I need to see?

Happy Things #12

Yay! Things that make me happy!

My new Razer Kraken headset! I can hear everyone so much better! Oh we’re supposed kill the add THEN cancel the detriment?! 😉

Stoked that the CEO of Razer tweeted me!!! I was so giddy when this happened! Also, @EverQuestII tweeted me recently about Erollisi Day! I was ecstatic!

Here’s a pic my mom sent me of a Criminal Minds episode.. she said this reminded her of me! I would LOVE a desk set up like this!!

Sooo happy to have purchased the last copy at the local bookstore of Hyrule Historia. This book is so epic!

How happy does this make you?!

I am not very good at League of Legends (yet) but I was really happy to have won a match. I played a couple of months ago and just recently got back into it. My name is Audeley on there if you want to add me!

I caught a rainbow in my room the other day .. Love finding these 🙂

Just HAD to put Mr. Leprechaun in for a photo shoot!
That’s how I roll!
What has been making you happy lately?!

Sci Fi Expo 2013

Let me start off by saying that Sci Fi Expo 2013 has been my favorite convention so far! I had an absolute blast!

One reason this convention was so awesome was because of the media guests. My mom was super stoked to meet all the Battlestar Galactica folks. I was equally excited for Edward James Olmos because of his role in the movie Stand and Deliver. I also loved him in Selena. So we got all the BSG autographs, Christopher Lloyd's from Back to the Future, and I got a photo and autograph with Billy Boyd. The Q&A panels we attended were Kevin Sorbo, Battlestar Galactica, Back to the Future, and The Walking Dead. I just love listening to their stories from set and how they got into acting. It's great that the audience members can ask questions, however, I wish people would come up with better questions sometimes haha …

I decided to dress up as Asajj Ventress shortly after Fan Days last October and got some of it done by December. I had some trouble attaching my custom made light saber hilts so I ended up buying Darth Maul's light saber and add some PVC pipe and electrical tape to make it curve. I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue to be her but after I got it all completed and did the make up I was really pleased with how it turned out. Originally I was going to be her both days, but when they announced that Billy Boyd from the Lord of the Rings would be there I immediately began working on an Arwen costume. That outfit is definitely the comfiest costume ever and probably my favorite look! The long hair, flowy dress, and handmade crown gave it a whimsical feeling. I'll probably make another post that shows my progress on the crown. It took a couple of days to finish since I was literally just winging it. Pun intended! (it's a butterfly crown, lol)

Now that I've been to quite a few conventions I've started making more and more friends. It's so much fun meeting up with everyone to take photos and ask how you made certain pieces of your costume. Turns out I even liked the new red carpet they added to the event. When I first saw it on Friday when we picked up our wristbands I was like "ummm seriously this is it?" but after seeing it in action I think it's a great way for people to snap a photo and not feel like they're holding up a line or blocking an entrance. I still stopped for photos throughout the whole building, but the red carpet was a cool meeting area for all the cosplayers to get together.

After getting home and taking off all the makeup and putting comfy clothes on, I started searching for everyone's photos. I found quite a few of me dressed as both characters! Saw a lot of Arwen I think because there weren't as many people dressed up on Sunday. The highlight for me was being interviewed for the CBS Dallas News. I was also picked for the Jack FM Slideshow, Dallas Observer Slideshow Part One and Part Two (twice) and made it on the Top 15 Best Costumes list! I didn't win the costume contest, but my good friends got best in show for their Jurassic Park creation!

Here are some shots of my costumes:

I will post a few of my pics after the cut below, but since there were so many (over 200!) I decided to upload them onto my Flickr account. So be sure and them out and let me know who's costume you liked the most!

A Fro-Yo Date at the Purple Kiwi

A few days ago I tweeted that I was craving some fro-yo! A few people asked me what the heck is fro-yo, and I just can’t believe they haven’t been blessed with the wonderfulness that is FROZEN YOGURT!! Not only is it a tasty snack but it’s also pretty healthy! Although, I am bad about adding a lot of unhealthy toppings. 😉
My fro-yo date was at Purple Kiwi with my momma!
They have machines where you pick your fro-yo flavor.
You can read all the available flavors on their website.
Next is your toppings! These range from strawberries, cookie dough, kiwis, peaches, brownie bites and peanut butter cups and many more!
More toppings! Sprinkles, gummy bears, walnuts, and yummy syrups just to name a few.
And here is what I made! I got strawberry and birthday cake yogurt with a little cookies n cream in there, too. Then I topped it with kiwis, strawberries, brownie bites, oreos, and sprinkles! It was soooo good!

I could probably eat fro-yo every day!

You might notice that I am trying to lighten my hair, too. I am going back to blonde! It’s kinda orangey pinky right now.

OH and we got to watch Sponge Bob while at the Purple Kiwi! It was the perfect date! 🙂
Have you ever had frozen yogurt before? What are you favorite flavors and toppings?

Free Comic Book Day 2014

This year for Free Comic Book Day (May 3) I dressed up as my favorite female comic character – Ramona Flowers!

There are several comic book stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, but I decided to visit Madness Games & Comics. It’s one of the biggest stores in Texas!

This is only one third of the store, and there’s usually rows and rows of tables for Friday Night Magic. They moved those out for the day to make room for the free comic books, artist Matthew Warlick, and two celebrity guests: Judge Reinhold and Mark Dodson (who voiced Jabba the Hutt!)

While waiting in line for my free comics, I found the droid I was looking for!

I picked out 5 new comics, but was sad that the Avatar issue was already gone. I did get a Guardians of the Galaxy comic, though!

After I picked out my comics, I met Judge Reinhold! He was in Beverly Hills Cop, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and The Santa Clause.

On my way home, I took off my Ramona Flowers’ wig only to reveal more Ramona hair! I love how nicely short hair fits under wigs.

Tutorial: Faux Corset

If you've ever looked up high quality corsets then you'll find that they are also high in price. I wanted to attend the local Renaissance festival as a fairy this year and pictured a corset to go with my outfit. I decided to use what I know best – craft foam! Sheets of craft foam are so cheap (like less than a $1!) so if I messed up then I wouldn't feel too bad about it. This tutorial is quite simple, but you will need some basic sewing knowledge. The corset itself doesn't actually squeeze your waist. It's more like a belt to be honest. But I think it gives a nice Renaissance look without the uncomfortable feeling a real corset has.

Short Hair and Loving it

Having long hair was a goal of mine for many years. I wanted it long like a princess! But in reality I almost always wore up in a ponytail to get it out of my face. The length also made it more difficult for me to color it. So I’ve been toying with the idea to go back short. One night after I washed it I grabbed the scissors and just cut the tail off. My philosophy on this was if I “ruin” the length then I’ll *have* to cut it short! No turning back! I am SO glad I did it. It feels so much better to have it short and thinned out now. It’s also so easy to wear wigs for my cosplays. And the best part was it cut my drying time in half! I’m pretty happy with pink right now, but I want to experiment with more colors soon. 🙂
I cut it all myself but I don’t recommend trying this at home! I have been doing my own hair for over 10 years.
And here’s a picture of the color I used. It’s RAW’s Fuschia Fatale mixed with a lot of conditioner to lighten it some. I let it sit for an hour or so on my head then rinse with cool water! 🙂

Happy Things #22

Things that have made me happy lately!
On Record Store Day (April 19) I lined up at ZT Records early in the morning so I could grab this limited edition Scott Pilgrim Video Game Soundtrack on yellow vinyl! They only had two of them so I was super stoked to get one!
I found out through my friend Laura of Dallas Fan Girl that Veronica Taylor (who does the voice of Ash Ketchum) would be at her university signing autographs! This made me happy because it was a free event. Veronica’s Q&A panel was also very cool! She was a great speaker so definitely go see her if you ever have the opportunity.
McDonald’s had My Little Pony toys in their Happy Meals recently, and I was on a mission to collect them all! I am bummed they didn’t make an Apple Jack, though. Why leave her out? 🙁
And as a heads up the next toy collection McDonald’s is going to have after the Spider-Man ones is Pokemon! Gotta catch em all!

For Easter my Mom and Dad got me mini cupcakes and the new Disney Magical World 3DS game. This game is SO fun! It’s a lot like Animal Crossing, but there isn’t any penalty if you miss a few days of playing. (Like the villagers don’t move out on ya without warning.)

Also on Easter, my mom surprised me with an original Katwise recycled sweater! These are hard to come by so I was bouncing off the walls when I saw it. The colors are so vibrant in person, too. I am already looking forward to the fall so I can wear this all the time!

There’s not a lot of empty wall space left in my room except for behind my bed. I was hoping to find or make a cool headboard, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon. So instead I got this awesome flag poster (it’s fabric-like) of Sailor Moon from Hot Topic!
And have you heard the news about Sailor Moon? You can watch it on Hulu now!!

There is a fancy schmancy local magazine called D Magazine that took photos of several cosplayers at Dallas Fan Days last October. They released it this month to help spread the word about the Dallas Comic Con. It blew my mind to see my Legolas is in this! I am so honored!

And here is a sleepy Pixie having happy kitty dreams! 🙂

Tutorial: Disney Mickey Hair Clip

When I visited Disney World, I noticed several little girls wearing these beautiful jeweled Mickey hair clips. I asked one of the mothers where they got it since I hadn’t seen them in any of the gift shops. She said they were given to them at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Unfortunately, you have to be 12 or under to get your hair done there, and they weren’t selling these clips separately.
I searched online stores and eBay for them but came up with nothing! I read on one message board that you can find them at Disneyland. Well since I probably won’t be making it to Disneyland any time soon I decided to make one myself. ^.^
Edit: I made this several weeks ago, and this website says they have some in stock now! But if you don’t want to spend $35 then you’ll love my easy Mickey Hair Clip Tutorial! 🙂
The first thing I did was draw the shape onto a sheet of white craft foam. I cut it out carefully then painted it pink, blue and green.

Next, I glued down jewels on top of the corresponding colors. For some reason I didn’t have blue jewels the same size as my pink and green so I had to use a size bigger for them.

After the jewels have dried well, position an alligator clip to the back. Try to make sure you can’t see it from the front.

Now you can create a magical style of your own! Perfect for any fairy tale. 🙂

If you make a Mickey hair clip please share it with me! 🙂

Animation Celebration 2014

Animation Celebration was a 3 day convention in Lewisville, Tx where I was invited to be a guest! I made several wizard wands, starfish necklaces and ordered extra prints to sell at my table. Last year it was called Brony Fest, but this time they expanded their genre a bit to include some great names like Kevin Conroy (the voice of Batman), Steve Cardenas (the Red Power Ranger), and cosplay guests Nicole Marie Jean and Destiny Nickelson.

Tutorial: The Little Mermaid Ariel Cosplay

I'm sure you've all noticed I'm quite a big fan of Disney Princesses. So it surprised me when I realized early this year that I had not done a single Disney cosplay. Luckily I made up for it quickly by making my Jessie costume with my friend as Buzz. But I still felt unsettled that I hadn't done a princess! If you follow my Instagram then you know I have done *two* now! So it is my pleasure to share with you my first Disney princess – Ariel in her sight seeing dress!
