Pixie Kitty Photo Spam

I have done a few cool things lately.. Like my birthday, Black Friday shopping, redecorate my salon (again!), see Breaking Dawn 2’s premiere, eat at Denny’s for The Hobbit meals, and paint some craft projects.. But since I don’t have those posts typed up YET…. Here are some cute pics of Pixie!! 🙂
She loves to help during raids on EQ2.. I bet she’s thinking “Kill the add, cancel the detriment, joust!”
(my guildies will understand, hehe)

Just chillin’ 😉

“Sacks make me hyper!”

Pixie and her BFF Rainbow Dash

Big yawn!

These might be my most favorite pics of Pixie! She looks like a prairie dog! She was giving herself a bath and heard something. Haha!
I call this Pixie’s “pink puff” .. She loves to sit by me when I am at the computer, and I found this cute pink cat bed at Petsmart.
Looking so pretty on my bed 🙂

Check out those eyes!! Pascal from Tangled had been hanging out on the back of the couch watching us.

Then Pascal photobombed us!! Promise I didn’t even plan this 😛
Xoxo,

  1. Pixie you are just so cute. I could look at pictures of you all day and that is saying something because I'm a veterinary nurse and look at cats all day anyway… but I'd rather look at your little turned down ear and big eyes. hehehe

OMGLITZY: Review: Kuzy Keyboard Cover

Review: Kuzy Keyboard Cover

My Mac desktop had seen better days so I’ve been saving up to buy a new one for awhile now. I finally upgraded and have been loving my new computer! One thing I wanted to take extra care of was the keyboard. I never used a keyboard cover on my other computer and with all the Pixie fur and Pop Tart crumbs around my desk I really wished I had. So I checked out Amazon and found that the Kuzy Silicone Keyboard Cover had over 1,900 reviews and a 4 out 5 star rating! At only $6.95 and free standard shipping I just couldn’t pass up this deal. It even arrived a few days earlier than Amazon had predicted and was in my mail box 5 days after ordering.
It came well packaged in a bubble wrap envelope. The cover is designed to fit most MacBook laptops and since the newer desktops have the same keyboard design it fit it as well. (My old computer had the keyboard with the number pad, which I admit I sometimes miss.)

The silicone is very thin and flexible. I laid it on top of my keyboard with ease and found that it fit snugly around the keys. I did have to smooth my hand over it to make sure it was stretched from corner to corner well, but this took mere seconds to do. I like that the silicone extends passed the keys, too. Like I said earlier, I eat a lot of Pop Tarts and other snacks while at the computer so I’m glad this will help prevent crumbs from getting stuck under the keys. The cover also comes off with a simple lift to make for easy cleaning.

The colors are exceptionally vibrant! I chose the rainbow design, but it comes in 20 different colors. I’m curious how quickly the colors will rub off after daily use. For now I have only noticed a few color splotches on some keys, and I had to get up close to even see them. Typing feels a little different, but was easy to adapt to. You don’t feel or hear the click of the keys as much. My fingers don’t seem to move the cover at all though, and I still type just as fast as I did without it. Only con would be that the light on the caps lock key doesn’t show up as brightly when it’s on, but that’s minor.
Overall, I am incredibly impressed with the quality and cuteness of this keyboard cover. The best part is that it’s so affordable! I can’t even imagine not using it now. It adds a great pop of color to my desk, and I can relax knowing my keys are protected.
:+:+:+:+:
I want to mention that Kuzy in no way asked me to review their product. I found this on Amazon on my own and wanted to try it out!

  1. Very cute! When I was in school my teacher was sooo paranoid about us getting her mac keyboards dirty. I remember we all had to clean our keyboards every day at the end of class and wash our hands when we entered class and came back from lunch… She should have bought some cute covers like this!! 😛

  3. So cute! I wish there were nice looking covers like that for my old Toshiba lap top, but I guess I just need to be more careful with my pop tarts 😉

  4. I love the colours. Such an awesome idea. My mac keyboard has so much kitty hair and cookie crumbs in it.

OMGLITZY: SOE Live Video Contest

SOE Live Video Contest

My favorite game EverQuest II is part of Sony Online Entertainment, and this year for the SOE Live Convention they held a video contest to win a trip to Las Vegas! It includes a ticket to the convention, round trip airfare, and hotel accommodations! I noticed not many had entered so I figured I would give it a try. I made this silly video about “raiding SOE Live” .. In the game EQ2 a group of players will “raid” a hard dungeon to win extra cool items. So I based my video on that! These are my tips for Preparing to Raid SOE Live – Watch the video here!

I am wearing my armor that I made for my Fiona cosplay and a costume dress that I wore last year to the Texas Renaissance Festival. I picked up the axe over the weekend at the Scarborough Faire along with the flower crown.

These are jars from Hobby Lobby filled with Gatorade. I printed labels off my computer and just glued it to the jars. They’re health and power potions!

This is my appointment book I use to schedule all my clients for my salon. (lol) I googled “leather” and added the words in Photoshop and just taped it to the front of my book then tied some string around it. Easy!
:+:+:+:+:+:+:
They should announce the winner in a few days. I really hope I get picked! A lot of my friends from my guild that I raid with will be going this year, and I would love to meet them. Plus it’d just be SO cool to win!!!!
So what did ya think of my video?
Have you ever been to Las Vegas?
Which hotel is your favorite?

OMGLITZY: The Shabby Shak – Faux Dragon Head

The Shabby Shak – Faux Dragon Head

I was just browsing Etsy (a dangerous thing to do) when I decided to search for “shabby chic” ..  I love vintage home decor and Etsy has some really imaginative sellers. During my search I found a cool shop called The Shabby Shak. Some items they have for sale are coat racks and hangers, cast iron decor, and knobs and handles. Definitely some interesting baubles! But my favorite item is the Faux Taxidermy Dragon Head!!!

I mean look at that!! It’s SO awesome!! It’s “resin compound , refinished in a bright chrome” and “heavily detailed” and available in custom colors! I am disappointed it says great for a “boy’s room” .. Because I think that’d look great in my room!!! 😛

I’ve always loved mythological creatures, and one fun thing on EverQuest 2 is the ability to decorate your house. They have numerous wall mounts of different animal/monster heads. So this dragon head from Etsy is right up my alley! She also has a T-Rex, rhino, giraffe and many others!

Would you want a dragon staring back at you when you wake up? Would you tell your friends you slayed it in a frenzy battle?! I would!

4 comments:

  1. The dragon most def shouldn't be just for boys. I mean, duh! T-Rex is pretty nice too. Such talented people out there. Somewhere there's a Hobbit village with fairy gardens and a cottage waiting for you.

    ReplyDelete

  2. The dragon is definitely cool, but I think I'd like it more if it wasn't shiny silver. The t-rex head is really awesome, and I really love the pink rhino head for some reason.

    ReplyDelete

  3. I have to go check out that shop now. And just because something says it's for boys doesn't mean girls can't have it! Also does that rhino have sprinkles on its horn, or is it just me?

    ReplyDelete

    Replies

    1. Hehe you're right it does look like sprinkles! I think I like it even more now 😛

OMGLITZY: Tutorial: Legolas Cosplay

Tutorial: Legolas Cosplay

Since The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug is coming out next week, I wanted to post how I made my costume for my Legolas cosplay! This was not too difficult to make.. but very time consuming getting all the pieces together. I wore this costume to Dallas Fan Days 2013. I started making it right after I saw the first trailer for the second Hobbit movie!

The first item I looked for was his tunic. I really enjoy recycling other items. So I found this vintage suede jacket on Etsy, and I just knew it would be perfect!!

All it took was trimming the shape into Legolas’ tunic. I cut off the collar, shortened the sleeves and angled the bottom.
The next part was SO MUCH MORE DIFFICULT! LOL … I spent ALL DAY adding the brown suede to the top of the tunic. I am sure there are patterns out there somewhere, but I decided to make my own and “just wing it.” .. In the end it came out exactly how I pictured.
To go along with my “wing it” philosophy.. I freehanded the swirlies with a silver sharpie. I was pretty nervous about this, but had a reference photo (seen here by Alley Cat Scratch) right next to me so I could redesign it.
I also freehanded the swirlies on the back and sleeves based on this reference photo. It’s too bad no one ever saw this since I wore a cloak all day. But I wanted it to be there so it felt complete 🙂

Next I made the quiver.. I just used a cardboard poster tube and wrapped it in some extra brown fabric I had. I used hot glue to attach it to the cardboard.
The arrows were wooden dowels that I painted brown.
And I added convention-friendly arrowheads. These are just pencil erasers painted silver then you glue them to the end of the wooden dowel.
For the other end of the arrows, I cut feathers in half and glued them to each side of the wooden dowel. This was messy because bits of feathers got all over the place.
Here is a finished look at the quiver, bow, and arrows. Also on the quiver I freehanded a swirly design with a gold sharpie (Legolas has a beautiful peacock design on his), and I attached a brown belt to the back. The bow was not made by me.. It’s an officially licensed Legolas bow made out of plastic.. but I thought it looked great! I got mine on eBay for only $10 but they seem to be sold out now.
The cloak was handmade by CloaknDragon, but I had to add a hole in the back so the quiver could go through it.

This wig is the same one I used for my Sailor Venus cosplay. It’s an Eowyn in the color Titanium Blonde by Arda Wigs. I braided it myself!

For the day of the convention, I pinned the two side braids up with bobby pins so they would look more like Legolas. This also helped my elf ears (by Aradani) show better. I did my makeup myself, too.
My leggings were handmade by Wrecking Crew Creation to fit my measurements, and the grey long sleeve shirt is from American Apparel. My boots were from Walmart, and the brown belts were from Target.
The brooch I wore on my cloak was from eBay and can also be worn as a necklace.

And my beautiful bracers were made by RenManLeather .. He customized these to fit my wrist and match the design to Legolas’ actual bracers. These are super high quality; I cannot recommend him enough!

The only thing I wish I had done differently was research how to properly hold a bow and arrow ^.^
I have never used one before and looking back in my photos I realized I wasn’t holding it quite right. So if you decide to make this outfit be sure to look that up!
:+:+:+:+:
I loved wearing this costume at Dallas Fan Days (see that full post here), and I can see myself wanting to wear it again and again. It was pretty comfy and I felt like a magical elven warrior. I am not sure if I’ll get to wear this for The Hobbit premier, but I am definitely excited to watch the new movie and see more Legolas action!
What character from The Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit is your favorite?
Will you go see The Hobbit in theaters?

    1. When I was looking for a tunic for Legolas I searched and searched and searched. I tried different clothing sites, eBay, and Amazon. I eventually found mine on Etsy from a vintage seller. Try changing up the words you use when you search online like "tunic, tunic dress, brown suede, green suede, etc" or try visiting thrift shops and garage sales. Good luck!

  18. I reallly like this and i am trying to make it myself. Can you please give me a link to the suede jacket. i cant find it anywere.

  19. So im a really BIG fan of LotR. I love everything you did here. i have read the comments and everything and i know youve given suggestions, im just wondering, do u remember the name of the user you bought your green tunic from. If you dont thats ok, i was just wondering.

  20. Love it! Im going as Legolas to a convention in june. My favorites are Legolas, Gimli,Pippin, and Éowyn

    ReplyDelete

  21. Just an FYI- yes, you were holding the arrow wrong. Real arrows have a nock in the end where you clip it on the bow string, then you lift the bow, draw the arrow back smoothly with two fingers up to your cheek, then (if shooting) release. Otherwise, just ease up until the bow is slack. DO NOT LEAVE THE BOW TAUT OR EVEN STRINGED FOR A LONG TIME. Remember to unstring the bow when you're eating or waiting in line so the bow doesn't get harmed. Also don't dryfire, or pull back the string and release without an arrow. That can break the string or weaken the bow itself.

Also, I noticed you kept the tip of the arrow between your fingers. DON'T DO THAT! If you release it, the fletching (feathers) will catch on your fingers, in addition to a burn from the friction of your fingers sliding along the wood, and possibly a splinter.

Maybe just take an archery class. That could help.

Anyways, thanks for listening to me ramble on about safety and proper care for a bow. Of course, I'm talking about a classic bow, not a compound bow here, although the basics are the same.

    – Eeveecat1248

    ReplyDelete

    Replies

    1. I forgot to mention the proper way for your non-dominant hand to rest. Instead of gripping the tip, let the end of the arrow rest gently on the top of your knuckle when you release. Beginners also sometimes lift their index finger over the arrow as they draw it back, but NEVER LEAVE YOUR FINGER THAT WAY.

What I Wore: The Flash

Right now The Flash on the CW is one of my favorite TV shows! It’s on break at the moment and is due to return on January 20, 2015. So to fill in the time I decided to wear a Flash inspired outfit!

My awesome shirt is from Think Geek. I’m wearing a size men’s medium. My favorite thing about this shirt are the cute stripes on the sleeves!
These super rad leggings are from a store called Love Culture at my local mall. POW! And my boots are by Blowfish.
I’m wearing a Tarina Tarantino necklace, and my newly dyed hair is a mix of Manic Panic’s Hot Hot Pink with a lot of conditioner (to make it pastel) and a chunk of ION’s Mint.
:+:+:+:+:
I had so much fun putting this outfit together!
Are you looking forward to The Flash’s return in January?

Scarborough Renaissance Festival 2013

I had been planning my outfit for the Scarborough Renaissance Festival many weeks in advance and was super pleased with how it turned out! Everything arrived in time and fit perfectly. The weather was also nice, there wasn't a major crowd, and they added some great new features to the festival.

Since I took so many pics you can view all of them from this year on my Flickr. And also check out my post from last year's festival here.

This was my fourth time attending a Ren faire, and I must admit I am HOOKED! I'm seriously considering a life on the road going from faire to faire. Having my own gypsy wagon, braiding people's hair and painting kids' faces. I could sell magic wands and handmade jewelry. Oh man that just sounds perfect to me!

For now I will enjoy going as a visitor 🙂 And enjoy I did! Here's a few of my favorite photos:

My dress is a costume I bought from Amazon. It is all one piece and SO comfortable. I was incredibly impressed with the quality of this dress. And will definitely want to wear it again.
This is the same flower crown I wore last year. I made this myself!
My skeleton key necklace is from Silver Owl Creations. It's gorgeous and so well-made. The owl necklace I found at Sam Moon last year.
My rings and bracelets are pieces I have collected over the years. I made the silver star cuff out of foam and paint.
This is also the same bag I wore last year. I made this as well. And the fox tail is from my very first visit to Scarborough's festival.

These are some old Blowfish Shoes that I have had for nearly 4 years. They are very comfortable and were the closet thing to fairy or elf boots that I currently have.

What I’m Listening To: Muse & Paramore

It’s been a good year for music! I was able to see Muse a few weeks ago at the American Airlines Center along with Dead Sara. I wasn’t a big fan of Dead Sara’s set, but Muse did not disappoint! We had VIP tickets that included a limited edition poster, water bottle, tote bag and access to a VIP lounge. Honestly, the lounge was SO cool I could have stayed there all evening. It wasn’t packed either, so you could enjoy the food and drinks and take plenty of pictures. Muse put on an amazing show with a really cool stage setup. They had a moving pyramid with lights and videos all over it. Their music is incredibly epic, and I have this theory that a Muse song will be playing when it’s the end of the world. 😛
I wore a Roxy hoodie, Hello Kitty shoes by Vans, and my Ramona Flowers purse from Amazon

I am also a big Paramore fan, and I’m really impressed with their new self-titled album! My favorite song right now is definitely “Still Into You”.. It’s so dang catchy! I also love Hayley Williams’ outfit in the video. I looked up her neon melting tights and found them by Urb Clothing. I’ll get to see Paramore this month at Edge Fest along with my favorite band The Gaslight Anthem. And next month I have a ticket to see The Killers!

Window Shopping: Michael’s & Macy’s

Last week was really exciting for me! I got to go to Disney World! If you follow my Facebook or Instagram then you may have seen a few photos from my trip! I have a TON of pics to sort through, but I will get a blog post up as soon as I can.
In the mean time, I had taken these pics a few weeks ago while at Michael’s and Macy’s. It’s fun to browse and look for cute things. Michael’s is just a craft/hobby store but sometimes you can find house decorations for a reasonable price.
The store employee next me said he loves giving these tigers a high five when he walks by! 😛

I was amazed at all the cool fantasy figures!

Dragons!

A pegasus!

More dragons! They also had Kings, Queens, and Knights. Would be fun to use these for a table top game. Or just to decorate a shelf 😛

The other side of Michael’s had a lot of Easter/Spring decorations.

I loved how magical it all looked. Like it could be straight out of a fairy tale!

This Betsey Johnson necklace has been at Macy’s the last few times I’ve walked through. The big pink heart is so cute! It was kinda pricey, though.

I spotted these Hello Kitty dresses at Macy’s in the junior department. I bought the two pink ones!

MLG Winter Championships 2013

Last fall I was able to attend my first MLG Championship! (Check my recap here) Well a few weeks ago I went to the MLG Winter Championships! It was held in Dallas at the Dallas Convention Center and featured StarCraft, Call of Duty, and League of Legends. Pro-gamers from all over the world competed for a TON of money in prizes. It was so cool to see some familiar faces and meet new friends! I have been trying to get better at League of Legends and hope to cosplay as Ashe someday. Here are a few pics from my MLG adventure.

Giveaway: Flying Packs Shirt

Flying Packs is a t-shirt company based out of San Francisco with a style any Californian would love. Being from Texas, I feel like we don’t get many original and hip shirts, so I was stoked when Flying Packs contacted me about their product! After reading their About section on their website I was immediately drawn to their motto “Don’t think outside the box, think as if there never was a box.” With a unique catalog of shirts to choose from, there’s no doubt males and females will find a stylish shirt to order.
I’m wearing the Flying Panda shirt in a size small and the fit was great! So many shirts run too small for my body type (I’m 5’10”), but I was so happy that the small fit just right. I paired it with a colorful undershirt and casual shorts – ready for a fun day by the pool.

I loved that there is no tag in the neckline, but rather a printed description. No itchy neck! Also, the shirts are 100% cotton and super soft to the touch. Do be careful when washing them, though, and use cold water to prevent any shrinkage.

I love my shirt so much that I want to share the greatness with you! One lucky winner will receive the black Flying Pig shirt I am holding in the photo above. It’s a size medium which will comfortably fit any guy or gal. Flying Packs also sent along several awesome stickers. And to sweeten the deal, I will be throwing in a signed cosplay print by yours truly!
Entering is easy! Just follow these steps on the Rafflecopter widget. One winner will be picked at random and mailed the Flying Packs shirt and my signed cosplay print. Currently, this contest is only open to US residents. Once a winner is selected, they will be contacted by email and will have 48 hours to respond otherwise a new winner will be chosen. Contest ends on Monday August 4. No purchase necessary. Good luck! 🙂

Tutorial: Furry Ears

After watching the incredible Commander Holly make a Rocket Raccoon cosplay for SDCC, I was inspired to make some raccoon ears myself! I figured this would be fun to wear to the premiere of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I looked up pictures of raccoon ears for reference, but you could use this tutorial to make cat, bear, fox, or any furry ears!
What you’ll need:
A headband, wire, wire cutter, craft foam, fake fur, scissors, hot glue, Sharpies
1) Cut your wire to make two ear shapes on your headband. Then sandwich some craft foam around the wire to hide it.
2) Cut your fake fur a little bigger than the foam ears and sandwich them the same way.
3) Glue it all the way around with hot glue.
4) Gently color your fur with your choice of Sharpie. I started with black in the middle, silver around that, and then left the edges white. I would have liked to have added brown, but I didn’t have a brown Sharpie with me. 🙂

Keep adding color to it until it suits your fancy! I also colored the back of my ears to look striped like a raccoon. And since there is wire in the ears you can bend them! I cupped mine a little and folded one ear down more than the other.
Now you’re ready to guard the galaxy as one of the most fierce raccoons ever!
:+:+:+:+:
These ears were so easy to make! I would love to make more in different colors. Let me know if you use this tutorial!

AKon 25 – 2014

AKon celebrated it’s 25th anniversary this year at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. It’s one of the longest running anime conventions in the US. I have been 3 years in a row now, and this year I arrived extra early to pick up my badge on Thursday.

The calm before the storm! The hotel is beautiful so it was nice seeing it before it was swarmed with cosplayers. There are some amazing pieces of art throughout the building including a piece of the Berlin Wall.

This was about 9:30 am on Thursday and the registration room was already PACKED with people waiting to pick up their badges. It took me nearly 3 hours to get through the line. Next year I am going to pay extra to just buy my badge on site because that line was nearly empty.

Photo by The Geeky Seamstress (Ms Marvel)
After I got my badge that morning I went home to prepare for the masquerade ball that evening. I figured why not check it out since it was included in the badge price. It was fun dressing up in something more original rather than a cosplay. I wore a black skirt with a lace shirt and my black corset. I got my mask at the mall and felt very Victorian!

The next morning I put on my Princess Celestia cosplay and headed back to the hotel. My dad drove me and my mom since the parking was so expensive. We got there pretty early so my mom took a few photos of me in the courtyard.

Once the dealer’s room opened we made our way up and down the aisles. Anime conventions have some amazing merchandise. I prefer them over comic conventions personally. There’s just more of a variety of trinkets and treasures. Like this booth in the photo!
Last AKon I met Yaya Han for the first time. She even complimented my Fiona from Shrek cosplay. Her line was super long this year so I didn’t get to talk to her, but my mom got this good photo at her booth.

While walking through the dealers room I met this wonderful Princess Anna cosplayer! She looked just like her!

I also spotted Ejen from Cosplay in America. His next book will be coming out soon, and I can’t wait to see his hard work published!

The next day I wore my Sailor Ariel cosplay and met up with the other Disney Sailor Scouts. We had been planning this since February so it was awesome seeing it finally come together.
I’ve admired photographer Aperture Ashley and was so excited to have a shoot scheduled with her. She took this great picture of my Sailor Ariel!
Some of the loot I came home with from AKon was a Korilakkuma Kigurumi, Sailor Moon Moonstick, and a Sylveon postcard by one of my favorite artists – Octopie.
:+:+:+:+:+:
I normally upload all my photos to Facebook, but since a whole days worth didn’t transfer to my new computer I won’t be able to make an album. If I figure out how to retrieve them I will update this post! 🙂
My next convention will be Anime Fest which is just a smaller version of AKon. It’s grown a lot over the years, though, so I expect it won’t be much smaller for long!

Healthy Hair Color Tips: Bleaching and Funky Colors

A question I am asked a lot is “How do you keep your hair so healthy?” Well let me first admit that my hair has been through a lot! But being a hairstylist that’s quite normal. We love to change our hair color often! It can take a toll on the strength and integrity of your hair strands. So over the years I’ve figured out what works best for *my* hair. I’m hoping this post will help others that might need some hair care advice, but remember everyone’s hair is different. I’ve been doing hair professionally since 2007, and I’ve seen firsthand the effects various dyes and products can do on hair. So definitely talk to your stylist for a professional opinion because they will know best!
For my own hair, I bleach the new growth (roots) with Wella’s Blondor and 40 volume developer. If I need to strip the color out of the ends of my hair I will use a lower volume that is not as strong. 40 volume on the ends of your hair is a bad idea! Sometimes I’ll wet my ends and shampoo it lightly then lather in some 40 vol bleach. That dilutes it a little and won’t be as harsh on your hair.
I typically let bleach sit on my hair for about 30 minutes under a shower cap. If you plan on doing a bright, funky color then you need your hair as light as possible and may need to sit longer. The best way to explain this is to picture a white piece of paper and different color crayons. The colors will be bright on the white paper, but if you took a darker piece of paper the colors won’t be as vibrant.
Once my hair is light enough, I rinse the bleach out with cold water (yes cold cold) and shampoo it with It’s A 10 Keratin shampoo. When coloring, I don’t use conditioner afterwards. This way my hair is more porous and the funky color will last longer.
Then I gently blowdry my hair until it’s completely dry and plan what color I want to do next. Lately I’ve been doing pastels. To make a pastel dye I squeeze a bunch of conditioner into a bowl. (I use any cheap conditioner since I use a lot of it. Just make sure it’s white. I used a blue one once and it didn’t lighten my dye.) Add some drops of color to your conditioner and stir. If it’s too light then keep adding more color until you like it. Here are some brands of color I use:
When you like the color in your bowl, start putting it on your hair. Always start at your scalp and work down the hair strand. Be sure to take small sections and completely saturate the hair. Funky colors will last longer if you really soak the hair in it. Then I put on another shower cap and let it sit for at least an hour. The longer the better! Most funky colors are demi-permanent, which means they don’t have any ammonia in them. They are not as harmful to your hair. Plus most of your concoction is conditioner and letting it sit on your hair for 1 hour+ is awesome. Your hair is so happy right now.
Once it’s time to rinse I use cold cold water again and let it run until it looks clear in the sink. I don’t shampoo or add any more conditioner to it. I just gently towel dry it and then let it air dry quite bit.
When I’m ready to blow dry I first add a quarter size amount of It’s A 10 Keratin Serum. The keratin helps rebuild the strength in your hair after the bleaching. Then I blow dry with a vent brush and flat iron as normal. After that I add another dime size amount of It’s A 10 Keratin Serum to give it a smooth and shiny finish.
It’s important not to shampoo your hair too often. I probably only wash my hair once a week. The natural oils in your hair are great moisturizers for dryness. I swear I am not endorsed by It’s A 10, but it’s also what I shampoo and condition with in-between coloring! I used a lot of products at the salon I worked at, and it’s the one I liked most. A more affordable alternative is the TRESemme Anti-Breakage collection. I’ve witnessed it work very well!
Finally, be sure to get regular trims to take care of any dead-ends, and try to avoid too much sun damage which can fade hair color and dry it out.
I hope this was helpful! Let me know! 🙂

Glitzy Geek Mail #1

I love the internet (a lot), but snail mail is so fun to send and receive! Here is some glitzy geeky mail an owl has delivered to me recently.
My Twitter friend @LadySquibbles16 and I have a lot in common, and we both enjoy tweeting about our love of different fandoms (most recently One Direction Oreos)! So when I received a package from her with a My Little Pony bag, Diana plushie, and a glitzy necklace I was ecstatic! Diana is modeling the gorgeous necklace, and Pixie loved meeting a new friend!

I’m so happy to be pen pals with Nerd Burger. We always have fun chats in our letters! And I especially loved the Harry Potter stickers and Frodo heart pin she included. I already put her pin on my jean jacket! You can see her other designs in her Etsy store. She also sent along a really cute comic about Mario Kart, and I love that she decorates the envelopes with fun stickers, too!
If you’d like to snail mail me or send a package I’d love to have a Glitzy Geek Mail #2!

Tutorial: Thor Cosplay

For the Dallas Comic Con this year, I was asked to be in a Marvel vs Capcom group! I chose to make a Thor cosplay because he's one of my favorite superheroes, and I really like his new design. At first I had a hard time deciding how to tackle this. After brainstorming for several weeks I finally figured out a pretty easy way to make the outfit. I hope this tutorial helps anyone that may be interested in cosplaying as Thor!!

Happy Things #23

Here are some things that have put a smile on my face lately!! 🙂
I ordered the purple macaron pillow from Squishables! It’s a lot bigger than I expected and is great for lounging around while reading or watching TV.
Pixie had a snuggle session with Pascal. They’re best of buds, aww!

I play Guild Wars 2 on and off again and laughed when I met this cute froggie the other day.
(For you, Ser Frog!)
A couple weeks ago I dyed my hair all over purple. There’s some pics on my Instagram (@glitzygeekgirl), but I thought it looked a little too dark. So I bleached it out and went with a pastel pink/purple! I added some more tone to it since this pic, too, and like it a lot!

Aren’t these rainbow sandals totes adorbz?! (lol) I got them at DSW, and the brand is Reef. Reef makes the comfiest sandals in the world.
I couldn’t find a source, but I loved this kitty wishing on stars.

Sailor Moon Fan Picks and Party Ideas

Naoko Takeuchi, Toei Animation / Via codenamesailorb.tumblr.com
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal starts this weekend and the buzz is sure growing! I can’t believe it’s already the 20th anniversary and almost the premiere of the new show! The slightly different character designs took a little bit of time for me to get used to, but after seeing our gal in action in the official trailer, I am definitely impressed with the manga look and feel. So to help prepare you for a Sailor Moon filled week, I’ve put together some of my favorite magical girl items and party ideas!
Brush up on your Sailor Moon knowledge by reading the story that started it all. The first volume in the manga series is only $8 at Barnes and Noble or you can grab the box set for $46.

Hot Topic has a great selection of Sailor Moon t-shirts, plushies, keychains and posters. I have this large fabric poster in my room, and I’m dying over this cute rubber bracelet.

I’ve personally ordered from Kuma Crafts and let me tell you this jewelry is so lovely you’ll want one of every style! It’s very high quality, packaged well, and shipped fast. Even though it says “pre-order” on the site, the jewelry is made quickly after you purchase it and ready for you to wear in no time.
Crissy of the Dainty Fawn has some beautiful slouchy crocheted Sailor Moon hats available in her Etsy store! I’ve had my eye on the Sailor Chibi Moon hat – it’s SO cute!
I purchased the new Moon Stick by Bandai Proplica while I was at AKon this year! You can get it here on Amazon with free shipping, too. It’s beautiful and something every magical girl needs!
Fiction-Food.com has an easy step by step guide for making Sailor Moon Waffles! I think this may be the greatest thing I’ve found on the internet, and I can’t wait to try making these.
And while you tune into Sailor Moon Crystal why not transform yourself, too? Michelle Phan, a YouTuber and makeup guru, has a great video tutorial for all Moonies to help us become our favorite heroine.
:+:+:+:+:+:
I’m so excited to watch the reboot this weekend! You can find out more info on the show here.
Will you be watching the new Sailor Moon?
Do you have any favorite Sailor Moon merch or party ideas?
Share with me in the comments below! 🙂

Pixie’s Emergency Surgery

If you've been following my tweets, then you know Pixie had to go to the emergency vet a few nights ago. She had to have surgery done and is hopefully going to be feeling a little better soon. However, the vet bills hit unexpectedly. I set up a GoFundMe with more info on what happened and a way for Pixie's friends to send a few dollars her way.
Pixie and I appreciate any help. Even just happy thoughts!

OMGLITZY: A Fro-Yo Date at the Purple Kiwi

A Fro-Yo Date at the Purple Kiwi

A few days ago I tweeted that I was craving some fro-yo! A few people asked me what the heck is fro-yo, and I just can’t believe they haven’t been blessed with the wonderfulness that is FROZEN YOGURT!! Not only is it a tasty snack but it’s also pretty healthy! Although, I am bad about adding a lot of unhealthy toppings. 😉
My fro-yo date was at Purple Kiwi with my momma!
They have machines where you pick your fro-yo flavor.
You can read all the available flavors on their website.
Next is your toppings! These range from strawberries, cookie dough, kiwis, peaches, brownie bites and peanut butter cups and many more!
More toppings! Sprinkles, gummy bears, walnuts, and yummy syrups just to name a few.
And here is what I made! I got strawberry and birthday cake yogurt with a little cookies n cream in there, too. Then I topped it with kiwis, strawberries, brownie bites, oreos, and sprinkles! It was soooo good!

I could probably eat fro-yo every day!

You might notice that I am trying to lighten my hair, too. I am going back to blonde! It’s kinda orangey pinky right now.

OH and we got to watch Sponge Bob while at the Purple Kiwi! It was the perfect date! 🙂
Have you ever had frozen yogurt before? What are you favorite flavors and toppings?

  1. Does TCBY count? I haven't eaten there since high school though.

That Purple Kiwi place looks awesome! I'd be overwhelmed by all the choices though… so many to choose from. Whatever you went with looks delicious.

  2. For those not having the gourmet experience of fro-yo let me add a few warnings.
    1. You pay by the weight of the cup.
    2. You can't make a decision so you try them all
    3. Try to stick with two flavors that compliment each other. Melted fro-yo of many flavors isn't the tastiest treat. It seemed like a good idea at the first!
    4. Be prepared for brain freeze
    5. Gummie bears do harden up, so make sure you have a good dentist

Great place to take your Valentine! Hint Hint!

    ReplyDelete

  3. GUMMY BEARS!!!!!!!!! Are my favorite topping. I usually go for fruit flavored fro-yo because for some reason it doesn't feel desserty enough for me to go for the chocolate and other super sweet flavors.

    ReplyDelete

  4. Watching SpongeBob while eating fro-yo sounds like a fun activity! Hehe! I usually buy Triple Chocolate and add a lot of unhealthy toppings, too! But still, we have to cut back on those sugary toppings. It's hard to suffer the consequences. In case you drop by other fro-yo shops, please write a review about that, too. Thanks, Anna! 🙂
