OMGLITZY: DIY Lightsaber Hilt Tutorial

DIY Lightsaber Hilt Tutorial

As promised, I have a very geeky Star Wars tutorial! I will be dressing up as Asajj Ventress for Sci Fi Expo and decided to make the hilt because the Force FX version was way expensive and mostly sold out everywhere I looked. This is a cheap, easy, and quick way to make Asajj Ventress’ lightsaber. It could also be used to make Count Dooku’s.
Pixie always has to be in the middle of what’s going on. She claimed the trash bag as hers and rolled around on it the whole time I was crafting, lol.
Items needed:
Duct Tape
Electrical Tape
Glue Gun
Scissors
Red Beads
 PVC pipe
(My friend Andrew suggested PVC pipe and using a heat gun to bend it slightly to make the curve. Since I wasn’t sure I could bend one with my blow dryer I decided to just put these pieces together using my glue gun)
Once I glued the pieces together I wrapped the whole thing in duct tape.
Then I used the electrical tape to add the black lines and red beads for the On/Off switch.
I looked into adding a blade to it but was unsure if it could hold up a wooden dowel. And I couldn’t find any long enough styrofoam. So I’m probably going to attach velcro to the back of the hilts and onto my costume so I can just wear them on my belt.
This project cost me about $25, all purchased from Lowe’s, and only took about 30-45 minutes to make! I realize it’s not perfect but sometimes handmade items are more fun 🙂
So what do you think? Don’t you wish lightsabers were real?!
If you had to be a Sith or a Jedi which would you pick?

    1. No worries!! I will just slick my hair back and have a hooded cloak on to cover it! How funny is it that I picked a bald character when doing hair is my favorite part!!!

I may or may not have just ordered an awesome wig for an Arwen costume tho 😉

  2. Those turned out really good and I loved your whole costume! I am a Jedi though.

OMGLITZY: Divergent Dallas Red Carpet + Giveaway!

Divergent Dallas Red Carpet + Giveaway!

I recently reviewed the first Divergent book and read the next two in the series within days. I became an instant fan so when I found out there would be a Red Carpet event from the official Divergent Facebook page I immediately sent in an email to see if I could get a press pass. The event featured Miles Teller and Jai Courtney who play Peter and Eric in the movie. Fans had the chance to get their autograph and then see a pre-screening of the film!

I chose to wear my new Divergent shirt from Hot Topic along with some GlitzyGeekGirl buttons.
If you are a Twilight fan then you might recognize my jacket. It’s by B.B, Dakota and is the same jacket Bella wore in the first Twilight movie! I thought it went great with my Divergent shirt.

When I arrived at the theater I picked up my press pass and free poster and found my spot on the floor! It was so cool seeing GlitzyGeekGirl in the press section. I was thankful I could get up close to the actors for some questions and a chance for them to say Hi to you guys! (As seen in the video posted at the top!)

Jai Courtney looked handsome in his suit and tie and was very generous to take pictures and sign for the fans.

Here I am with Jai! His character, Eric, is not one of the nicest in the book, but Jai was nothing but sweet! You may recognize him from Spartacus and A Good Day to Die Hard.

Miles Teller was also a pleasure to meet! He plays Peter in the movie, and if you have read the books then you know Peter has a very interesting storyline. Miles is also known for his roles in Footloose, That Awkward Moment, and he was recently announced as part of The Fantastic Four cast.

The theater was packed with fans and the guys took their time to make sure everyone had a chance to meet them. I actually forgot to ask them to sign my poster because I was so excited on the red carpet. Thankfully they came back around so I could get their autographs!

Besides meeting the actors, the coolest part of this event was seeing some of the costumes up close. They had a small exhibit showcasing the clothes that each Faction wears in the film. It would be awesome wear these as part of a cosplay group!

Abnegation

Amity and Candor
Dauntless and Erudite
I am not allowed to say much about the movie, but I will tell you that I LOVED IT! I will definitely be seeing it again when it hits theaters. Fans of the books will not be disappointed and those who haven’t read it should also enjoy it. I am looking forward to purchasing the soundtrack for the film, too. Some great artists including Snow Patrol and Ellie Goulding contributed songs to it.
Tickets for Divergent are on sale now. The movie opens March 21st.
:+:+:+:+:
GIVEAWAY TIME!!! I am incredibly excited to share with you guys a chance to win a Divergent poster signed by Miles Teller and Jai Courtney! I asked them to sign two for me (I’m keeping one!! :P) But one lucky Divergent fan will be chosen by Rafflecopter to win the other!
Currently, this contest is only open to US residents. Once a winner is selected, they will be contacted by email and will have 48 hours to respond otherwise a new winner will be chosen. I will personally mail the poster to you along with some GlitzyGeekGirl stickers! You have until March 31st to enter. I made this contest longer so everyone has a chance to get as many entries as they can in!
Good luck!

Disney World 2012

I kind of joked with my dad that when he retired we would celebrate at Disney World. But we made it happen!! He helped make a dream come true for me, and I was able to cross something off my bucket list. He earned a true vacation after working way too hard for the railroad, and I’m secretly a 12 year old in a 26 year old’s body. I’m a Disney princess through and through. We stayed at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa close to the Magic Kingdom and even made a trip to visit Universal Studios so I could check out the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I can’t really pick my favorite moment .. they all were so amazing! But seeing Hogwarts and eating at the Three Broomsticks was definitely cool. I also really enjoyed the parades and firework shows at the Magic Kingdom. My favorite rides were the Tower of Terror and Aerosmith’s Rockin’ Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios. Man, just reminiscing makes me want to go back again! Here are a few photo highlights of the trip! 🙂

  1. Congrats on scratching an item off your bucket list. What a trip. I think I'm the only one who has never been. Holla next time you go.

  2. You got to meet Stitch! That's perfect!

Disney World is such fun! I'm glad to hear you had a good time! It certainly looks like you did. I can't wait to go check out the Harry Potter park sometime.

Disney World 2013

So last year I was surprised with a trip to Disney World for the very first time! You can check out that adventure in this blog post. One thing that happened last year was our flight was delayed in New Orleans for FIVE hours! It sucked! So Southwest Airlines gave me and my dad $200 vouchers each to use before April 30, 2013. So of course we wait to the last minute to decide where to use our vouchers to and end up picking Disney World again! I really wanted to go back to see the new changes to the Magic Kingdom and spend more time there. So we made it happen!
Last year I carried Minnie Mouse with me on the plane, and this year my parents got me a Mickey 🙂
Lots and lots of pictures after the link!!

I didn’t know anything about Pin Trading last time. So I bought a starter kit on eBay and brought my pins with me to trade. By the end of the trip I traded all of mine for new ones! It was so much fun talking to the cast members (employees) and picking out pins I liked. I almost got an entire set of the “princess shoes” .. I recommend doing pin trading if you go to Disney. It’s like you’re on a quest for treasure the whole time!
(I’m wearing a poncho because it rained nearly the entire trip! So excuse my frizzy hair!)

We went to Downtown Disney for the Pin Trading place and also for Goofy’s Candy Co. A friend of mine told me about this candy store where they make whatever you want!! I picked chocolate covered pretzels with sprinkles. It was great watching them make my dessert 🙂

Also at Downtown Disney I got a glimpse inside the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. I wish so badly I was 10 years old so I could get my hair done there.

This was inside the Wilderness Lodge Resort where we stayed. This hotel was huge! It had a very cozy feel to it. Lots of waterfalls, rocks, and totem poles.

The best part of staying at the Wilderness Lodge is the boat that takes you to and from the Magic Kingdom. Last year when we stayed at the Grand Floridian we rode the monorail. It was packed with people and would take awhile to unload everyone. This boat was incredibly handy. It ONLY carries people from the Wilderness Lodge. And there was almost always a boat ready there. So no long lines and a very scenic trip.

In front of Cinderella’s Castle!
This is part of the new Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom. That’s the Beast’s castle behind me from Beauty and the Beast. In the mountain is the amazing “Be Our Guest” restaurant.

There were 3 different rooms to the restaurant. This was the grand ballroom. It was so exquisite! I am so glad we were able to eat lunch in here. The wait was about an hour, but the dinner reservations are booked up for like the next 6 months! So it was worth the wait.

This picture and the one below are from the movie Tangled. It’s absolutely my favorite Disney movie ever. This part of the park wasn’t here last year so when we stumbled upon it I squealed! At night the lanterns and Rapunzel’s tower lit up. It was beautiful. The sad part was this was a bathroom!! Can you believe that’s all they made this out to be????

Alas, I wasn’t the chosen one! The sword remained in the stone.

This was Terrence from TinkerBell’s magical nook. He was hilarious. He asked me about my “artwork” (meant my tattoos), and I told him I loved his hat.
While eating at Tony’s Town Square restaurant, I saw Mary Poppins outside my window. I left my dad in there eating so I could run out and get to meet her! She was so lovely. I bought an autograph book this year so I could include my photos with the characters next to their signature.

Ariel’s grotto was also new to Fantasyland. Her ride was a lot of fun (my favorite part was the room where they sing Under the Sea), and her grotto was gorgeous. There were seashells and colorful marbles in the ground and walls. She took the time to tell me how she enjoyed decorating the room. 🙂

You can’t go to DisneyWorld and not meet Mickey Mouse! He was so kind!
Since Tangled is my favorite movie, you can imagine how excited I was to meet Rapunzel herself. I met her last year, but this year she greeted me with a BIG hug and called me “blondie” like herself! When I told her I was a hairstylist she said she’s always wanted her hair done into an updo! I said I would have to book extra time for her. She laughed :p

I like asking the characters how to stand. They always look so cute!

In this picture it was Aladdin’s idea to stand this way. He was a babe 😛

Buzz Lightyear was probably my favorite to meet. I was able to catch him right when he came out so I got to the front of the line before it formed. I yelled “To infinity and beyond!” and he put it arms up then gave me a hug. Then we started doing the Cha Cha Slide together (it was playing in the distance). It was epic!
Of course, the day we left the rain finally cleared and the sun shined. I was sad to leave, but really had a blast. I am so thankful I can say I have visited Disney World twice! It’s truly a magical place.

OMGLITZY: Disney Pin Trading Board

Disney Pin Trading Board

On my second trip to Disney World, I was introduced to Pin Trading! I didn’t participate in it my first trip and let me tell you, doing the trading makes the experience even more fun! When going into each shop and ride you feel like you’re on a mission to check out what pins the cast members had. It was really exciting to try and locate certain ones – I was looking for the Disney Princess shoes. I also bought a couple like the Rapunzel and Tinkerbell and Grape Soda pin from Up. And the Elvis Stitch was a gift from my brother when he first visited Disney, too! A few of these were also traded with friends on Instagram and Facebook pin trading boards. This is a really fun hobby to have so I wanted to showcase my pins on a decorative board I could hang up in my room. And here’s how I made it!
Supplies needed:
Canvas – mine is 11×14
Paint brush
Acrylic paint
Ribbon
Tacky glue
Glitter
First paint your canvas any color you want. I chose metallic purple to match the ribbon I found at Hobby Lobby.
I did two coats of paint. Make sure to let the first coat dry completely. Before the second finished drying I sprinkled some fine glitter onto it.
Next, measure how much ribbon you’ll need and cut them into four strips.
Then dab on some tacky glue and use a brush to smooth it out. Lay your ribbon over it and gently press it down to smooth out bumps.
I let everything dry over overnight, then the next day I put my Disney pins on the board! I like this better than using a cork board because my mickey pin-backs stay with the pins.
I love having a special place for all my collected pins! And I hope to collect more someday and make another colorful canvas board for them.
:+:+:+:+:
Have you ever done Disney Pin Trading?
How do you store your pins?

  4. I've been wanting to do the pin trading for a few years now, but I wasn't exactly sure how to do it (like, do you ask people to trade with you? Or is it all online?)
But I love the board Idea, and I have a lot of band badges to pin on one!

Review: Denny’s The Hobbit Menu!

In honor of The Hobbit being released this week and with inspiration from GeekyGlamorous’s post, I decided to give the special Hobbit menu at Denny’s a try!

I was pretty excited about this and was quoting LoTR to my dad on the way. He had no idea what I was talking about, but he was eager to eat some food regardless. 🙂

When we sat down they brought us some samples of the Radagast’s Red Velvet Pancake Puppies. And holy cow they were good! We told the waitress we were here just for the Hobbit menu and she laughed and gave us some time to take pics 😛

I eventually decided on the Shire Sausage Skillet with scrambled eggs. My dad ordered the Slam so we could try the Pumpkin Patch Pancakes, Seed Cake French Toast, and Shire Sausage. We were feeling breakfast to say the least!

The food was pretty good.. my sausage wasn’t the best but the eggs and veggies were delicious. Dad’s french toast was awesome and we just HAD to order some of the Red Velvet Pancake Puppies to take home with us. The coolest part were the free trading cards they give out if you order a Hobbit meal. Our waitress gave us 3 packs!

Click below to see all the photos!!

And for added fun.. this pic below was taken when I went to see Breaking Dawn Pt 2!
Anyone planning to see The Hobbit opening night?

OMGLITZY: Dark Purple Hair – Psylocke Style!

Dark Purple Hair – Psylocke Style!

Time for a ~glitzy~ hair post!! 😀
(Don’t worry there’s a photo of Psylocke at the end..)
About 2 weeks ago I had the guts to drastically change my hair color! It’s normal for me to go from one funky color to the next, but I usually keep most of it blonde. Well I was playing around with a wig and feeling inspired by this photo of Katy Perry one night..  so with the support of my Facebook friends (I took a poll and almost everyone said they liked it dark) I decided to go for it!

Katy Perry at the 2012 Billboard Awards .. I liked that she had pale skin and blue eyes, too!
Testing out my dark brown wig first..
If you follow me on Facebook/Instagram/etc then you’ve already seen the results but if not then hereeee weee gooooo……

First, I used Deep Purple by RAW from Hot Topic .. It took all three bottles to do my whole head.
I usually mix the color with a lot of conditioner so it will make the color lighter and brighter. But since I wanted to go dark I decided not to add conditioner this time.
See ya, blondie!
omg!
This was right after I washed the color out… I was surprised how DARK it really was! It was basically black with a slight purple tint.
The next day I took this pic and thought hmmm maybe I like this…
It just looks so dark inside! I was hoping for more of a bright purple.
But when I am outside in the sunshine it looks a little more vibrant 🙂
I have been washing it with hot water to get it to fade a little. I have a feeling I’ll probably add another color to it (maybe teal?) .. But for now it’s fun having darker hair. Especially for fall!
:+:+:+:+:
Also, thank you to the few that said I should do a Psylocke cosplay now! I am quite sure that will never happen (check out that bod!), but she is so pretty with purple hair!

  1. Whoa.. your hair is getting long! I like it! The purple is really pretty too! I think a lot of people would look weird with different color hair, but you always make it look so good. You manage to make it look like a natural hair color.

    1. Thanks! It grows really fast! That is one reason I color it so much since I get roots so quickly. I would feel odd going back to my natural color for sure!

  2. The hair looks great. Like the way it looks in the light. But don't completely rule out Psylocke, you did rock the dark Mary Marvel and Black Widow pretty well. It wouldn't anywhere near as absurd as a 5'8" 150 lbs guy trying to cosplay as Khal Drogo. If you do say no, you could always fall back on doing Katy Perry. You're a champion, and I wanna hear you ROOOOAAAAAAARRRRRR. I'm tired.

  9. Hi Anna, I really liked how the purple came out for you! You look super cute ^.^ I have a question, would you happen to know any good brand that makes either royal or midnight blue? Also, must I bleach my black hair before I can get it to be a noticeable dark blue? Please let me know, thank you!

  10. My hair is black would this work on my hair?

    ReplyDelete

    1. No it will not 😀 You need a light canvas for bright colors to show up on. If you were to take a purple crayon and draw on a black piece of paper it wouldn't show up well would it? Hair is the exact same!

Dallas Sci Fi Expo 2014

This year for Dallas Sci Fi Expo I dressed up as Shredder from TMNT and decided to film some of my adventure! Last year’s expo was one of my favorite cons of the whole year. I was really looking forward to attending again and seeing all my friends!
The guest list was quite impressive. I recognized all of the names and was surprised by a few of them. Karen Gillan who played Amy Pond in Doctor Who was there along with Richard Dreyfuss who was in Jaws. I was most excited to see Stephen Amell who stars in the tv show Arrow. Sadly, I didn’t get a VIP ticket this time so I decided not to wait in the 2+ hour lines to get any autographs.
The event was still a lot of fun. I stood by Karen Gillan’s table and she waved at me as she was leaving. I also saw a few of the Face Off contestants and took pictures of the Blues Brothers mobile. The only Q&A I was able to get into was for Stephen Amell. After I walked the cosplay red carpet I hauled butt upstairs and waited in line for a hour for a *chance* to get into the Q&A room. Thankfully I made it in right before he came on stage. I just finished season 1 of Arrow on Netflix, and I LOVE it! I am so glad I was able to at least see him talk.

My costume was pretty easy to wear. I did heavy eye makeup and got to wear comfortable clothing.
The armor was a little cumbersome (and I did break two spikes from bumping into people), but I enjoyed having my face covered. This way I didn’t have to worry about “am I smiling ok? do I look tough?”
On the fourth floor of the convention was a booth by Superhero Photos. He took some pictures of my Black Widow cosplay. When my mom and I got closer we both said “Whoa!!” as we noticed my giant poster! I couldn’t believe that was me ^.^ Too bad my name wasn’t anywhere on it 🙁
I was happy to see the lovely Mindy dressed as Rogue. She looked gorgeous! Check out her awesome blog The Geeky Seamstress!
My friends Marla and David made last minute TMNT costumes to wear the morning of the convention. I almost didn’t see them before they changed clothes, but I am so glad we got some photos! They looked incredible!
Here is the car from the Blues Brothers! It’s not the actual one from the movie, but it’s the only one that is considered nearly identical! I am a huge Blues Brothers fan so I was very excited to see this.
This is Stephen Amell during his Q&A. There’s a little bit of footage of him talking in my video. He was soooo cool!! 😀
The dealer’s room is my favorite place to shop for goodies. It also features a lot of great comic artists. I was happy to find my friend Taylor Lymbery’s table. You may have seen his banner on the side of my blog. He’s an awesome local artist so be sure to check out his work!
And what’s a convention without some Stormtroopers?! These guys always look so rad. That’s also my friend Sean who made a last minute Punisher outfit that I think turned out great!
As I was leaving the convention, I ran into my friend Lori from GirlHero! I love reading her blog and was super excited we got to meet up and take a pic.
Even though I didn’t get any celebrity autographs, I still had a fantastic time at Dallas Sci Fi Expo! Next time I plan to get a VIP ticket again. They really are worth the price so you can cut to the front of lines.
Also, I am so thankful for all the compliments on my Shredder cosplay. In case you missed it, I posted a detailed tutorial on how I made the whole costume. Let me know if you plan to make a Shredder outfit!
The next convention I’ll be attending is the Dallas Comic & Pop Expo. I don’t have a costume planned for it, but I definitely want to get Nicholas Brendon’s autograph. He played Xander in Buffy the Vampire Slayer!
:+:+:+:+:
So if you went to Dallas Sci Fi Expo what did you think?
Did you have fun?

OMGLITZY: Dallas Fan Days 2014

Dallas Fan Days 2014

This past weekend was the October edition of Dallas Comic Con! It was originally called “Fan Days” but I just learned that they will be renaming their 3 conventions. (If you’re curious – February’s will be Fan Days, May’s will be Dallas Fan Expo, and October’s will be Dallas Comic Con) But anyway I will probably still refer to this one as Fan Days for now 😀
They had announced early on that Elijah Wood and the Phelps twins from Harry Potter would be attending! I immediately bought a premium badge because I knew I would want to meet them. They also announced Alex Kingston (Doctor Who), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Burt Ward and Adam West (Batman and Robin) but they all sadly had to cancel. There were still several other great guests from Indian Jones and The Goonies as well as some big named comic book artists. I am totally blaming the Ebola scare that happened in Dallas this month for the cancellations. Thankfully I think it’s all under control now!

Fan Days was a 3 day convention so on Friday I wore my new Princess Peach cosplay! I had made a tutorial for the crown over a year ago (you can read it here), and I bought the fabric then, too. I finally made the dress in September this year to wear to Anime Fest, but ended up not going on the Sunday I had planned to wear it. So instead I debuted it at Fan Days! I loved being a bright pink princess!

Since there weren’t many guests there on Friday, we took advantage of the smaller crowd to do some shopping and scope out the dealer’s room. I was super happy to see new vendors and artists this time.
On Saturday I wore my Legolas cosplay again. I actually made this for last year’s Fan Days and have a full tutorial posted here. I chose to wear it again so I could meet Elijah Wood (who played Frodo in the Lord of The Rings.)
When I got to his autograph table I told myself to “play it cool” and not freak out. Well that didn’t work at all. I was so overwhelmed with excitement that I started tearing up. As soon as he saw me he said “That’s an amazing Legolas cosplay!” and that’s when I totally lost it. I told him how great it was to have this chance to meet him because I really never thought I would ever meet FRODO!

He was super incredibly nice but to be honest I don’t remember much else.. which makes me mad because I didn’t “play it cool” at all. Haha.

I just tried to hold back my tears so I wouldn’t ruin my makeup and the pictures my mom was taking. Luckily Elijah Wood was awesome and fanned my face to help me calm down. Gosh, I can’t believe I looked like that..

So eventually I managed to smile, and I thanked him again for this opportunity. I am a really really big LoTR fan and looking back at these photos nearly has me in tears again.

After I got his autograph, we went straight to the line for his panel. Even though it didn’t start for 2 more hours people were already trying to form a line. It was a mad house! The place was so crowded and there was no where to sit. But I was determined to get a good spot in the theater room. Sean Astin (who played Samwise) was also in attendance! I met him in 2012 in my Zelda cosplay you can read about here. We sat in the second row from the front! I loved hearing them talk about their experience on set.

Sunday I wore a Hermione cosplay so I could meet James and Oliver Phelps who played the Weasley Twins in all the Harry Potter movies. I already owned a Gryffindor tie and a Time Turner necklace so I paired it with one of my handmade wands and brown Ferrari wig from Arda Wigs. I didn’t get a wizard robe like I was hoping to so instead I wore my graduation gown from college!
You couldn’t pose with the twins at the table but my mom was able to snap these pics from the side. I actually managed not to cry until after I exited – thank goodness. They were so HANDSOME! I’ve been a Harry Potter fan since the beginning, and again I never thought I’d get to meet them. HP cast members rarely make appearances here. Although, I did get to meet Tom Felton last year! Now, I am hoping more of the cast will come to Dallas!

I spent the rest of Sunday in line again for the Twin’s Q&A panel. It began forming nearly 2 hours early, too. They talked some about funny twin pranks they have done, cleared up some HP rumors, and what it was like to read the final book and their character’s fates. I was mesmerized listening to them refer to Alan Rickman (Snape) and Michael Gambon (Dumbledore) like they know them.. WHICH THEY DO! Omg it was incredible!

So even though I was mostly stuck in lines this whole convention I tried to snag a few pics of some great cosplays. I have all my photos posted in my Facebook Album!
And if you’re curious, this is what I look like after I take my cosplays off! Haha! I wear my Teemo hat to hide my wig hair.

Some loot I picked up was a Legolas Funko Pop, a mini Hunger Games poster, and the most magical unicorn shirt I’ve ever seen! My mom also won a drink koozie from the Scarborough Renaissance Festival’s table by spinning their prize wheel! Woot!

:+:+:+:+:+:
Dallas Comic Con put on a great event again! Even with several cancellations and ridiculous lines, I still managed to have a great time. Thank you to everyone that asked for my picture or complimented my cosplays. I’m sorry I had to turn down some photo shoots this time – it was very busy and by the end of the day I was exhausted! My next con is probably PAX South in January. So I hope to see you there!

Dallas Fan Days 2013

Dallas Fan Days was a few weekends ago, and I still find myself smiling as I look through my photo album from the event! I looked at all the pics and had such a hard time deciding which ones to put in the blog. I wanted to include them all!! So please look at my Facebook Album to see the entire set!
Fan Days is a little smaller compared to Dallas Comic Con which was in May. But this year they made it a three day weekend instead of two. Some of the celebrity guests included Ron Pearlman, John Barrowman, Jon Heder, Katee Sackhoff and Tom Felton! There were also some great comic artists like Neal Adams, Cary Nord, and Mark Reznicek who was also the drummer for the Toadies!
Here are some videos and article links from the event:

The Nerd Fu – Cosplay at Fan Days
These are my friends Scotty and Courtney as Alien vs Predator. Aren’t they incredible!! Please like Courtney’s page on Facebook to see their other amazing costumes. I always look forward to what they bring to each convention!

On our way to the convention, we pulled up next to the Jurassic Park jeep! We were a little confused on the driving directions so my mom said “Follow that jeep!” Because, of course, he had to be headed to the same place we were! :p

My favorite new addition to the convention was the free pinball area! I had so much fun playing pinball. I would love to own one someday. There will be a Texas Pinball Festival in my town on March 28-30 next year!
My costume for Friday was Black Widow! My friend Sean of Indel Cosplay was Hawkeye. We had a lot of fun posing with other Marvel characters.
This is my good friend Kitty from Aurum Cosplay. She looked fantastic as Rikku from Final Fantasy! I was so happy to see her.
I had to make sure and stop by Matthew Warlick’s table in the artist alley to get a picture! Be sure to check out his artwork!

My costume for Saturday was Lady Legolas! I had been working on this since the summer and was so excited to see it all come together.

I was especially proud of the wig I styled. I was hoping to wear my real hair, but since mine wasn’t quite long enough I decided to go with a wig. I am so glad I did because I feel like it really made the outfit look more fantasy-like.

Here I am playing the Lord of The Rings pinball machine!
Part of the convention experience is getting some good photos of your costume. I was really excited when I was asked to pose for D Magazine. They said the article probably won’t be printed until after the new year, but I am looking forward to seeing my Legolas in the popular magazine!
I found this excellent Frodo walking in the dealer’s room, and asked him if he’d like to join me in the costume contest! I was debating whether or not I wanted to compete since I get kinda nervous on stage. I felt so much better going on as a team!

Here we are on stage at the contest! We didn’t win, but we had a lot of fun as Legolas and Frodo. Thanks again to Alec for joining me! 🙂

On Sunday I wore my Luna Lovegood costume. Here I am waiting in line to get my photo taken with Tom Felton! It was great hanging out with other wizards who were just as excited as I was to meet Draco.

And here is Tom Felton signing my photo of us! He shook my hand and said I looked fantastic! I don’t remember what I said to him because I was just SO happy to meet him. He was incredibly nice!

I literally had tears in my eyes after getting to meet him. I’ve never met ANYONE from the Harry Potter series. This was a big achievement to unlock because that is my all time favorite book.

This is an interesting crossover – Voldemort and Luna battle at the Stargate!

Although I loved my other costumes from the weekend, I probably had the most fun on Sunday. It was my day to really be a fangirl!

Also, I am pretty sure my patronus would be a one eared kitty.
:+:+:+:+:
Definitely look through my Facebook Album to see all the pics I took at Dallas Fan Days! There were some amazing cosplays there. I can’t wait to see all my friends again at Dallas Sci Fi Expo! I will also be posting a costume tutorial of Legolas and Luna soon so check back for that. 🙂

  1. Gosh that looks like it was so much fun! Your costumes were awesome 😀 I'm glad you got to meet Tom Felton! I've never had the chance to meet anyone from the Harry Potter series. That would be such an experience! My friend met James and Oliver Phelps at a comic con a few years ago, and it was a thrilling moment for her. And how amazing that you get to be in a magazine! o/

  2. Ahhhh you know Scotty too?! What a small world we live in. I really wanted to make it out to fan days (Borrowman!!!! <3 <3 ) but it just wasn't in our cards. I'm hoping we can pull of SFX though in Feb. There is a Doctor Who con next month that I couldn't get tickets too as well but I'll be missing on that. Your Luna looked fantastic btw! And I'm glad to hear Felton was nice. I've heard mixed reviews on his encounters so I've been holding off on meeting him. Hopefully he'll come around to Dallas again soon!
