The Zelda Symphony

The Legend of Zelda™: Symphony of the Goddesses is the first ever video game themed concert to feature a complete 4-movement symphony.”
After weeks of putting my costume together, I finally was able to show it off! My parents and I ventured to downtown Dallas early to find a good parking spot for the symphony. The line was already pretty long so we jumped right in. A few people started asking for my photo, but it wasn’t until we were inside that the crowds really grew! It was fun meeting other fans and giving little girls hugs. I felt like a Disney Princess at Disney World. The music itself was amazing and gave me chills. I especially loved the Ocarina of Time segment and any time they showed Link and Epona. There wasn’t much Skyward Sword shown, but we saw my outfit once or twice. If you ever get a chance to see this show please do!! Even non-Zelda fans are sure to enjoy the enchanting atmosphere 🙂
I’ll be wearing this costume on Saturday (tomorrow) to the Dallas Fan Days.

Yikes! Scary before pic but it shows my make up! Hehe

I did some contouring on my nose to make it more elf-like.

With the Pixinator
They wouldn’t let me bring my harp in! They said it was considered a weapon?! So my dad had to take it back to the car 🙁

Not many others were dressed up so the few of us that were were a hit!

Feeling famous

His shirt was so cool!

I am pretty positive this was Ann Ward – the winner of cycle 15 of America’s Next Top Model. I was too nervous to ask.. I wish I had, tho! She was my favorite!

  1. That's an amazing costume! You must have worked really hard on it, and it looks great!

I saw Symphony of the Goddesses earlier this year. I loved hearing all the wonderful Zelda music. The Skyward Sword logo with the sun rays that they had up before the concert (you got a picture of it) was really awesome looking. I love that you got a picture of the dancing Goron too.

    Glad you had fun!

OMGLITZY: The Vampire Diaries: Dallas Convention 2014

The Vampire Diaries: Dallas Convention 2014

Last year I had attended Creation Entertainment’s Vampire Diaries Convention and had one of the best times! (You can read about it here.) These cons are a little pricey but smaller in size and run incredibly professionally. It’s a lot more intimate setting and a better chance to see/hear/meet the guests. However, Paul Wesley canceled last year, and I was super bummed because I had already met Ian Somerhalder before. So I decided to go again to try and get Stefan’s autograph added to my poster!
I wore the shirt I bought at last year’s con along with my Salvortore ring.
The convention was held at a nice hotel and had these cute standees in the dealer’s room. Since I didn’t pay for a photo op with the fellas I decided this selfie was good enough.
There was some great Vampire Diaries merch for sale including t shirts, mugs, stickers, jewelry and hats. I didn’t buy anything this time since I already have 2 shirts and a hoodie … and tons of jewelry :p
I found my seat in the panel room to watch the trivia contest and auction then saw my face on the screen!!! If you used the hashtag TVDDallas on Instagram they were posting the pics of fans on the screens! How cool is that!
The guest list was great but most were only coming on specific days. Since I was only attending on Saturday I got to see Stefan and Damon and Haley (Phoebe Tonkin). Haley was a werewolf on VD and also on The Originals. I was bummed that I couldn’t meet Michael Trevino (who played Tyler Lockwood) because he was only attending Sunday. Oh well.
And here is Stefan and Damon!! I was so excited to finally see Paul Wesley! He was hilarious!! His character on VD is so serious all the time that it was a nice treat to see him more relaxed and make jokes. Ian Somerhalder was his usual “I’m so hot” self that he was kinda annoying to be honest. But the two together were great because they called each other “brother” and really seemed like good friends.
I couldn’t take any pictures while getting Paul Wesley’s autograph, but he was super super super super cute. Oh my god. He was so handsome!! When it was almost my turn I asked the lady in front of me if I looked okay then tried to remember to breath normally. I got to the table and he started signing my poster and I said how it was so nice to finally meet him since I missed him last year. He shook my hand and said thank you then I told him good luck at the Teen Choice Awards (which were the next day). Then I asked if I could shake it his hand one more time and he laughed and said sure. 😀 😀 😀
The Vampire Diaries will always be one of the favorite TV shows, and I think it’s the neatest thing that I’ve had the opportunity to meet several of the cast members. I only need Tyler, Alaric, Jenna, and Elena’s autograph to have my poster finished.

Are you Team Damon or Team Stefan?

The Vampire Diaries: Dallas Convention 2013

Back in August I was able to attend The Vampire Diaries Convention put on by Creation Entertainment! I feel bad it took me this long to post about it because I had a total blast!
There were so many cast members from the show there.  I was glad my ticket package included a lot of autographs.
A cool treat at the convention was seeing Ian Somehalder’s brother Bob. He runs a really cool company called Built of Barnwood (BOB).. There were so many wonderful things for sale and you could even meet Bob and get his signature!
Although this convention was smaller than most, they still had a nice display of goodies to buy.

They had a small costume contest, and most of the girls were dressed as Elena or Katherine. I decided if I had dressed up I would have been Matt in his football uniform lol

During the auction, I bid on this really cool bag that was from the 2011 San Diego Comic Con!

The money from the auction went to charity, and I think it’s cool to have this hanging in my room 🙂

I bought a t-shirt at the convention and wore it with my lapis lazuli necklace my mom had bought me!

She also bought me a lapis lazuli ring, and I ordered Damon’s ring from eBay.
This was the Q&A panel for Torrey DeVitto and Kat Graham who play Dr. Meredith Fell and Bonnie Bennett in the show. Torrey DeVitto is also in Pretty Little Liars.
This is a pic of Trent Ford on stage. I was SOOO excited to meet him because he is in one of my favorite movies How To Deal. I love that movie SO much, and I have watched it so many times that my DVD skips now. He had a small role in the Vampire Diaries a few seasons ago, but when I saw him announced for the convention I got really excited!!

This was the bead I made for Trent Ford. He collects beads for his necklace when he travels to new places. Since this was his first convention and I’m a huge fan, I thought it would be cool to give it as a gift 🙂 He was really grateful!

Charlie Bewley was also there, and I was excited to meet him because he was part of the Volturi in Twilight.
This was my outfit for the second day! I wanted to look cute since this was the day I’d get Damon’s autograph!

Ian Somerhalder (Damon) was the big guest of the show.. Paul Wesley (Stefan) canceled his appearance last minute *cry* .. I had met Ian before so I was looking forward to seeing Paul Wesley. Oh well. I’ll take Damon if I have to! 🙂
Here are all the autographs I got! I already had Damon’s and Caroline’s on my poster from a few years ago. So I got Damon’s again since it was included in my ticket package. I also got Bonney’s, Jeremy’s and Matt’s autograph on my poster! Then I went ahead and had Charlie Bewley sign my Twilight book. And honestly, I was probably most excited to meet Trent Ford. He was so cool.
:+:+:+:+:
I also went to a Supernatural convention so I will be sure to post an update about that soon!
Are you a Vampire Diaries fan?
Are you Team Damon or Team Stefan?

Also, hnng, those rings! So lovely! Looks like a great time, always love those smaller conventions because they can have some great panels and talks that would normally be too packed at bigger cons.

  5. I am team Damon! But I think Caroline is my favorite. And i ship Bonnie/Jeremy SOOOOO much!!! Supernatural con sounds so fun! Those guys seem to really enjoy what they do!
I sent my 2011 Supernatural bag from SDCC to my friend! Aren't they great? And poster sized!!!

  6. There's one coming to my area in a few weeks. You'v convinced me to go however Paul Westley better not bail or like…i'll do…SOMETHING dunno what but I can tell you it will make awkward moments all around!! (I hope those people who paid $150+ on him got a refund at least)

OMGLITZY: The Shabby Shak – Faux Dragon Head

The Shabby Shak – Faux Dragon Head

I was just browsing Etsy (a dangerous thing to do) when I decided to search for “shabby chic” ..  I love vintage home decor and Etsy has some really imaginative sellers. During my search I found a cool shop called The Shabby Shak. Some items they have for sale are coat racks and hangers, cast iron decor, and knobs and handles. Definitely some interesting baubles! But my favorite item is the Faux Taxidermy Dragon Head!!!

I mean look at that!! It’s SO awesome!! It’s “resin compound , refinished in a bright chrome” and “heavily detailed” and available in custom colors! I am disappointed it says great for a “boy’s room” .. Because I think that’d look great in my room!!! 😛

I’ve always loved mythological creatures, and one fun thing on EverQuest 2 is the ability to decorate your house. They have numerous wall mounts of different animal/monster heads. So this dragon head from Etsy is right up my alley! She also has a T-Rex, rhino, giraffe and many others!

Would you want a dragon staring back at you when you wake up? Would you tell your friends you slayed it in a frenzy battle?! I would!

  1. The dragon most def shouldn't be just for boys. I mean, duh! T-Rex is pretty nice too. Such talented people out there. Somewhere there's a Hobbit village with fairy gardens and a cottage waiting for you.

    ReplyDelete

  2. The dragon is definitely cool, but I think I'd like it more if it wasn't shiny silver. The t-rex head is really awesome, and I really love the pink rhino head for some reason.

    ReplyDelete

  3. I have to go check out that shop now. And just because something says it's for boys doesn't mean girls can't have it! Also does that rhino have sprinkles on its horn, or is it just me?

    ReplyDelete

    Replies

    1. Hehe you're right it does look like sprinkles! I think I like it even more now 😛

OMGLITZY: The Nutcracker Ice Show

The Nutcracker Ice Show

Every year at the Gaylord Texan Resort, there is an epic Ice Show put on for the holidays. This year the theme was The Nutcracker! My parents surprised me with tickets to the show for my birthday, and we all really enjoyed going.

The Gaylord Texan is a beautiful resort with all kinds of other attractions inside. There was a gingerbread house, giant Christmas tree, and you could even visit Santa!

When you enter the Ice Show, they give you a HUGE jacket to wear. I didn’t think I would need it on top of my big coat, but I am so glad I wore it. The temperature inside was only 9 DEGREEs! It was so cold I couldn’t feel my face.
They use two million pounds of ice to make all the sculptures. I was amazed at the size and detail of each piece. You can read more about how they make the ice here.

Of course, my favorite sculpture was the pink pegasus!

There was also an ice slide you could go down! That’s me on the slide!!

The last room in the show was dedicated to New York City. There was a Yellow Taxi, the Statue of Liberty and Big Apples.

If you live in the DFW area, I definitely recommend checking out the Ice Show at the Gaylord. The whole place was beautiful and really put me in the holiday spirit. There are also several restaurants inside, and it’s the official hotel for the Dallas Cowboys!
:+:+:+:+:
Hope everyone has a happy holiday!!
Do you have any holiday attractions in your town?

  1. How it looks so festive but ever so cold. I wish they did something like that in Australia.

  3. That looks so cool (in more ways than one) ! Merry Christmas!

  4. Whoa. Totally not what I was expecting when I heard "Ice Show" as a skating nerd. I can't get over the level of detail in the sculptures. Beautiful.

OMGLITZY: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones: Movie Review

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones: Movie Review

If you’ve read any other reviews about the first movie in The Mortal Instruments series then you must think it isn’t good. Well I saw the movie last Thursday and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. However, I prepared myself by expecting a bad movie. I mean.. that’s what all the reviews were saying! Even fan’s comments on the official Facebook page were saying it wasn’t good. So I have this theory that I went into the movie expecting it to be bad .. and it exceeded my expectations! LOL  .. But seriously.. I loved it! I’ve read the first two books and I’m halfway through the third one. There’s already 5 out and a 6th one coming May 27, 2014.

My outfit when I saw the movie!

So I’m going to give a quick little SPOILER-FREE review here, then I’ll give another more in depth review. If you’re looking for a fantasy action movie with some chick flick romance then this is it. I love vampires, werewolves, angels and demons, etc.. so the dark characters intrigued me. It’s seriously got some cool action! There are demons that are so real looking it scared me and fight scenes with some serious skills involved. I think guys will enjoy that side of the movie and girls can enjoy the lovey dovey teenage romance that blooms between the main characters. It’s NOT LIKE TWILIGHT. Sure it’s a young boy with superpowers and a young girl that lives a normal life.. but the dynamics definitely change later on. I’d also like to point out the acting didn’t suck in this movie. It was a great mix of humor, drama and suspense. I loved that Clary is shown all roughened up from the fight scenes with wet, dirty hair and messed up makeup. She came across very real to me. My only complaint with the actors was Magnus Bane. His performance was very dull .. and he’s supposed to be quite an eccentric character. He sounded like he was just reading lines off paper. *yawn* … But the casting for Jace was spot on to me. He was just sarcastic enough to be funny, but incredibly brave and heroic to make it easy to fall in love with him. And finally my last thumbs up goes to the soundtrack! I have had it on repeat since I got it last week! My favorite songs are by Colbie Caillat, AFI, and Jessi J … this soundtrack is also sure to please both guys and girls. The romantic songs are sweet and touching.. while the techno/rock songs are sure to get you dancing in your chair. In all, this movie was magical, gothic, suspenseful, and fun. I enjoyed it a lot and I plan on seeing it again!

:: WARNING:: SPOILER REVIEW::

If you haven’t read the books or seen the movie then DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER!

I absolutely HATE getting spoiled (when I don’t want to be) so I am trying to give plenty of warning 🙂

My review of the movie WITH SPOILERS is that it was definitely different from the book! However, I think the changes made sense for the movie. As others have said, the first half of the movie stayed very true to the story in the book, with only minor changes. Then, once Clary and the others talk to Magnus Bane I felt like the plot shifted a little.

In the movie, Simon’s kidnapped by the vampires because they want the mortal cup from Clary.. so he’s used as bait. In the book, the vampires (as well as all the other downworlders) could care less about the cup. So when everyone finally ends up back at the Institute, it’s shown that Simon was bitten by a vampire. This isn’t brought up until book two, but I think it was a good move on the screenwriters part because it will pull the audience that hasn’t read the books in to wanting to know what happens to Simon. So eventually Clary figures out where the cup is hidden, and the scene with Dorothea and the shadowhunters was really cool to watch! She was super creepy when she turned into a demon. But once Clary gets back to the Institute with the cup, Hodge summons Valentine through the portal. Now what confuses me here, is they show Clary’s mom in the portal and she jumps after her.. But then later her mom is at the Institute? So was she always at the Institute? I can see why fans of the book may not “like” the movie because it does stray from the original plot a bit and gets confusing. I do like, though, that the big battle is now happening at the Institute rather than bringing in another location like in the book. And they do say that demons have never stepped foot in an Institute before.. making this a pretty terrifying event. So Valentine summons demons in, Hodge is helping him, Clary has jumped through the portal to try and find her mom but ends up at Luke’s, and the other shadowhunters are tending to Alec upstairs who got hurt at Dorothea’s house.

My next confusing question was what did Valentine say to Hodge about Jace and Clary? I’ve tried googling it and I just can’t figure it out exactly. I know he admitted that *MAJOR SPOILER* they are NOT brother and sister… and Hodge exclaims that telling them that are ARE related will break their hearts…. But WHY did Valentine want to break their hearts in the first place? I never heard a conversation about why it was important to keep the two apart. Maybe this is because I’m only book 3.. but I know the fandom was kinda bummed that they told the audience they aren’t really related. But I think this is good so the audience isn’t creeped out by possible incest.. and makes people eager to see if they can eventually be together. So Clary and Luke and the other werewolves come back to fight and try and save her mom .. And Jace finds Valentine who tells him he’s Clary’s brother .. and then I guess when Clary comes in ready to kill Valentine, Jace wants her to stop and listen first? But then Valentine gets mad and starts attacking her and like the good hero Jace is he starts defending her … *swoon* … Well it would be romantic if they didn’t just get told they were related!

But then to distract Valentine she pretends to throw the mortal cup into the portal (where it would get lost in limbo) And this pisses Valentine off.. so he goes for it and she eventually gives it to him .. And I’m like WTF Clary! Because in the book Valentine gets to keep the cup so I figured this was how it ended… Well nope.. major change here is that she kept the real cup hidden.. and must have grabbed the replica (shown way way earlier in the movie) and gave him that one. So I thought that was kinda cool! And now.. we have a reason for Valentine to still be after Clary .. He wants the cup.

So .. I can understand why they changed certain parts of the storyline. It will make having sequels better in my opinion. And while I’m okay with them telling the audience that Jace and Clary aren’t related… I still don’t understand why Valentine went to the effort of fabricating the lie in the first place.

And that’s my unprofessional review of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones!

:+:+:+:+:+:

I would love to discuss this movie with y’all and maybe get some of my questions answered but please be considerate of those who may not have seen/read it yet and put “SPOILER” in your comment if you choose to post! Thanks 🙂

OMGLITZY: The Little Mermaid Musical

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

The Little Mermaid Musical

Last week I went on an adventure to downtown Dallas to see the Broadway musical production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid! My dad saw an ad for this in the paper, and I immediately bought tickets since they were selling fast. This event was put on by the Dallas Summer Musicals for their 74th season. They are the largest producer of theatrical entertainment in the Southwest United States. Before the performance they said it typically takes them about 12 weeks to prepare for a show, but this one was completed in only 3 weeks! That included all the costume designs, set building and rehearsals. The quality was not compromised one bit because this musical was a beautiful production of epic proportion!

My outfit for the musical was very mermaid inspired. I got my leggings at Target, my dress at Wet Seal, my red wig from Arda and I made my starfish necklace. I have matching rings in my Etsy store right now!
It was really cold that day so I made sure to wear a stylish peacoat and hat, too.
My dad and I decided to get to downtown early to beat the traffic and eat dinner first. We chose to go to the Spaghetti Warehouse. It had been years since I ate here so I was really looking forward to it.

I had chicken spaghetti. Yum! It was delicious! They also serve the best bread with garlic butter and a salad before the meal.

The show was held at the Music Hall at Fair Park. The theater was very nice, and it quickly became crowded mostly with excited couples and little girls. Some were even in cute Ariel costumes!

There were a few souvenirs available for purchase. They had pens shaped like tridents, Ariel and Ursula dolls and this fabulous pink glitter t-shirt that I just couldn’t pass up!

I have never been to a Broadway show before so I plan to keep this Playbill forever! I think this makes a great keepsake. Inside it listed each of the actors in the show. I was very impressed to read they have all been in several other successful shows. Liz McCartney who played Ursula has also been in Broadway’s Annie, Wicked, Sweeney Todd and many more!

You were not allowed to take any photos during the performance. So many people were taking quick shots of the stage before it started. We had great seats in the center of the theater. The curtain had bubbles floating on it and there was a sound of water all around you like you were really under the sea.

I wish I could show you the costumes because they were AMAZING. The detail and colors were outstanding. Everything sparkled and had a glow about it. I would go see this again and pay extra for a front row seat just so I could study the costumes better. It was unique how they had the actors move around the stage, too. They had several of the fish and the eels wear Heelys. These are shoes with a back wheel in them. So they could walk and also glide around the stage to mimic the look of swimming. Ariel and King Triton were in a harness for a lot of the show and literally flew around the stage. They managed to move their bodies and “fins” so it looked just like they were swimming!
Besides the costumes, my favorite part of the show was the music. They put so much heart and soul into their vocals. The actors did a fantastic job staying true to the characters. Their voices sounded JUST like the ones in the movie. Sebastian and Ursula were especially incredible. I felt like I was watching the real characters right in front of me. The show added a few new songs to the performance, but they fit right in with the originals. It was refreshing to see a small spin on the story. The musical exceeded my expectations and was breathtaking and truly magical.

Have you ever been to a Broadway musical?

  1. Ok, first off. Your outfit is amazing. I love your leggings and your rad starfish necklace. The musical sounds so rad. I wish I could have seen it.

  2. I LOVE musicals, but I haven't seen any based around Disney stories. My favorites so far are Phantom of the Opera and The Book of Mormon. I've seen a few others as well. Newsies is on my bucket list. You look adorable in this outfit. I wish I had your fashion sense.

  3. I love musicals and The Little Mermaid is on my list to see. I have seen a bunch of Disney musicals like The Loin King, Mary Poppins, and Beauty and the Beast! I so wanted to see The Book of Mormon but both times it has made it's way to SF, sold out!

  4. Wanna see this one so bad! Along with the Lion King musical. 🙂

  5. Sounds like it was a lot of fun!! Your outfit is the best!
I had my first musical experience with Book of Mormon and it was amazing! I highly recommend it! With as many musicals as I participated in in middle school and high school, you'd think I'd be a theater junkie but no, I feel like I never know when things come to town so Book of Mormon was a rare treat! Glad you had a great time! 😀

  6. I'm going to see The Book of Mormon in May, and I've seen Wicked three times (my favorite)! I also saw Beauty and the Beast and Legally Blonde, which was–to my own surprise–AMAZINGLY GREAT!!! Netflix has Shrek for free which is great cause the arts can be REALLY expensive to access. They also hav Into the Woods.
    I like Sweeney Todd too!
If you get a chance to see Wicked: don't hesitate! It's soooo good! It's barely like the book…which–and I rarely say this–is a good thing!

  7. Hey anna what characters are you wearing for the HOT Comic-Con

  8. I have never been to a Broadway musical but I would love to go to this one!! Sounds like a fabulous one to go to and I gotta admit I'm a little jealous, lol. Adorable outfit, too!

  9. I would so watch this! I shall look out for pics on the internet! You should get the mermaid scale tights that are available at livingdeadclothing and blackmilk. I have the livingdeadclothing ones and I love them!

  10. I love musicals! I work in a musical theatre so I kind of have to hahah. So far I've only seen a handful of Broadway musicals, though. My Playbill collection is small but proud!

Oh and I like your hair. The red suits you 🙂

OMGLITZY: The Hunger Games: Meeting Peeta

The Hunger Games: Meeting Peeta

I have a story I need to tell. It’s one I’ve brought up to a few friends before. But I am hoping by typing out my feelings I may finally be able to overcome this grief.
Sounds really dramatic, huh? Well any serious fangirl would understand that when you have the chance of a lifetime – and miss out on it – you’re gonna have to figure out how to move on.
So this is my “Meeting Peeta” post that has been on my mind for years now.

It all started in 2012 when I read The Hunger Games trilogy in just three days. I was instantly a huge fan and took the books with me every where. I couldn’t put them down! Next thing I knew I was buying shirts, posters, pins, magazines and all the movie guides. When I discovered that several of the cast members were doing a mall tour to promote the first movie I just about jumped from my seat! One of the huge perks of living in the Dallas, Tx area is that we’re lucky to be on a lot of tour lists. Jacqueline Emerson (Foxface), Isabelle Fuhrman (Clove), and Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark) were to be at the Dallas Galleria. I knew without a doubt I had to go, so I began doing more research on when and where to be. This is how I discovered a blog (I wish I could remember the name of it) that was holding a contest to win a chance for the trio’s autograph. They weren’t doing a signing for the public but a few lucky winners could meet the cast members before their Q&A and have a poster signed. All I had to do was send in a photo showing how big a fan I was.
I grabbed Pixie and my fan gear and had my mom take a few pictures of us. When I sent the above pic in, I captioned that my cat was “Buttercup” hunting mice like in the book. The blog posted the entries and to be honest I didn’t think I had a chance to win. Several others were cosplaying as Katniss and looked incredible! Well I went to work that evening at my salon and didn’t get off until 9pm. I checked my phone and saw I had a missed call at 8pm. The voicemail was from the lady running the contest and she said I WON! I got two tickets to to the private signing! All I had to do was call her back by 9pm. Yep…. 9pm …. I died. I just died. I called right away but when she answered she said she already had to give the tickets to the second place winner and that there was nothing she could do. I started crying and felt ill! I couldn’t believe I won and just missed the opportunity by a few minutes.
The next day was the event so my parents and I got there really early to see if there would somehow be a chance to still meet the cast. We waited by the ice rink (where they were having the Q&A) for HOURS. Like six or seven hours. Something insane like that. *Let me just say how awesome my folks are.. I love you guys.*
We never got into the private signing, but since we were there so early we did manage a great viewing spot for the event. The place filled up like crazy! The rink is an oval so there were fans alllllllll the way around and on every level!
Our spot was right by the entrance to the ice rink. So even though the cast would be facing the other way we were still the closest. The best part was they had to walk RIGHT BY us to enter. And you know what? Josh Hutcherson saw me! He motioned up and down his arms and said “I like your tattoos!” AHHH!! He talked to me! Well at this point the whole place was a deafening scream and I was pumping so much adrenaline I couldn’t think straight. So I replied with what any fangirl would – “I LOVE YOU!” .. Yep… That’s all I said. *facepalm* And then he said…. “Thank you.”  *double facepalm*
The cool thing is another fan next to me got video of them coming in. And you can see Josh talking to me at 0:32.
The memory of Josh Hutcherson making eye contact with me when there were literally thousands of screaming fans does help make up for my loss at getting his autograph. I hope that one day he and the cast will come to conventions, and maybe I can tell him a (shorter version) of my story and add his signature to my collection.
It feels good to get that off my chest. The moral of the story is if you enter a contest CHECK YOUR PHONE! Or give them a number of a family member that isn’t at work .. lol.

I’m super excited to see Mockingjay Part 1!! Will you be seeing it in theaters?

  1. OMG, I would have cried too! I can't believe they only allowed an hour to call back. I mean, people have jobs! But yay for eye contact and tattoo compliments!

  2. I totally would've cried too!! I also think I would've responded in the exact same way 😀
I feel like such a dork because I could've run into Josh Hutcherson while they filmed the movie in Atlanta – one of the sets was literally outside my co-worker's window and I missed out! 🙁
I just saw Mockingjay Part 1 last night and it was wonderful!! I hope you get to meet them!!

The Hobbit

When The Hobbit was released, I was kinda bummed I couldn’t make it to the midnight premiere.. I usually like to dress up for those! So it’s been on my to-do list to go see the movie .. Last night I finally got to!! The theater was still pretty packed, and it’s funny to see mostly males rather than females (since I usually go to chick flicks) in the seats. I haven’t read the book yet – that’s on another to-do list – but I still really enjoyed the movie. I’ve been told they changed it up some compared to the book. I’d like to see it one more time in theaters and this will definitely be one I want to own! It had just enough humor, magic, action and great great music. My favorite part is the beautiful costumes.

Lady Galadriel’s hair!!! Omg!! 😛 I am definitely going to cosplay her or Arwen soon.
She’s so magical. I wish I was an elf!!
The song the dwarves sing at Bilbo’s house gave me goosebumps, too.
Thorin was a truly emotional character.. I really enjoyed his performance throughout the whole movie.
This is “Song of The Lonely Mountain” performed by Neil Finn.
He’s an outstanding singer from New Zealand.
When this song played during the credits I couldn’t leave until it was finished.
There was no stinger after the credits, but I recommend staying for the music 🙂
And for a cool look at The Hobbit sets by Lego check out MTV Geek!
So today I’m going to listen to The Hobbit soundtrack on repeat, wear my elf crown around the house, and slay some orcs on EverQuest II ! 😀
Have you seen The Hobbit yet? If so, what did you think?? And don’t forget to read my review of The Hobbit menu from Denny’s!

  1. Did you see it in 2d or 3d? I haven't seen it yet because of all the talk about the headache inducing frame rate of the movie. Did you get any of that when you saw it?

    1. I saw it in 2D. I did notice it was hard to see clearly during the battle scenes. No headaches for me, though!

  2. Long post ahead… too much to say.

I saw The Hobbit (An Unexpected Journey) twice… and would love to see it again… very few theaters have it in IMAX 3D HFR, but there's one near you… thought about a trip but probably won't find time 🙁

I saw it in 2D the first time just to enjoy the movie for what it is. It's a bit slow in parts (especially in the beginning) and does suffer from story bloat, but once it gets moving, it's pretty exciting. I loved the The Lord of the Rings trilogy even though I had never read the books, and I was really excited by the extended editions of the movies. It's pretty easy for me to sit through 3 hours of any story Peter Jackson wants to tell about Middle Earth, so The Hobbit was pure enjoyment for me.

All 2D formats are normal frame rate (24 frames per second). The 3D format comes in 2 flavors, the normal frame rate or the high frame rate (HFR, 48 frames per second). One benefit of the HFR is to allow more images and more light to reach the eyes, helping to minimize the darkening of movies that occurs with current 3D technology. It's also supposed to allow action to appear smoother to our eyes. In the real world, there is no frame rate, and our eyes perceive much higher rates of motion than we're used to seeing (and even more than the HFR can provide).

One complaint regarding HFR is that it looks fake. Partly this is because our eyes are used to seeing motion appear less fluid on film. For reasons I don't fully understand, this also involves the props and sets appearing cheaper.

Interestingly, the computer-generated effects have generally been the least-bothersome to most people. This Kotaku article explains this really well: http://kotaku.com/5970900/avatar-2-could-look-even-more-like-a-video-game-than-the-hobbit-does-but-that-might-not-be-a-bad-thing

My experience seeing it in 3D HFR was good. Lady Frog did not enjoy it as much. The opening of the movie is primarily live-action, so the HFR stands out a bit more, and it does take some getting used to. I did enjoy that the movie appeared less dark than many 3D films do. The 3D was overall very well-done and primarily limited to giving depth to scenes rather than being gimmicky with things flying out of the screen at you. I enjoyed the 3D most in the broad, panoramic scenes of Rivendale and other parts of Middle Earth.

In general, I think 3D can often seem very natural but can sometimes be quite jarring. I felt the same way about the HFR. Put together, most of the movie was fine. Some parts were distracting because of the 3D, some because of the HFR, and some because of both.

If I watched The Hobbit again, I'm not sure what format I'd prefer. Although I'd like to see it in 3D again at some point (maybe at home and not in the theater), I still default to seeing movies in 2D, and The Hobbit is likely not going to be an exception to that rule. Especially when watching movies at home, wearing the 3D glasses is awkward when you're eating, getting up to go get a drink, or trying to see what the cat is chewing on.

Overall, I enjoyed The Hobbit. I think it did a good job of getting our heroes out to the start of their quest. As an introduction movie, it may not have had as much action or excitement in it. I think the 2nd movie will be very exciting (and possibly the 3rd depending on how they break up the story and what extra material they add in), but I've also heard a lot people fear that the 2nd movie is where most of the boring bloat will be added. Either way, I can't wait until the next 2 come out and may have to find time to see The Hobbit again before they do.

  3. And I'm not done yet…

Until recently, I never read The Lord of the Rings. I read The Hobbit at some point after seeing the The Lord of the Rings movies and was not very impressed.

I recently re-read The Hobbit in the months leading up to the film's release. I found it to be a more enjoyable read this time around. Although The Hobbit is a relatively light-hearted story with a fair bit of humor, its telling by J.R.R. Tolkien seemed somewhat dry to me.

After completing The Hobbit for the second time, I began reading The Lord of the Rings. It was fairly exhausting, and I can't say that I enjoyed it much. There is no denying Tolkien's accomplishment in creating this fully fleshed-out fantasy world complete with races, languages, and a rich history. The impact his works had on the fantasy genre including books, movies, and especially video games is unparalleled. However, I do not think he was a very gifted writer, and his books are cumbersome to read. There were some things that I felt his books approached better, but in general, I believe that Peter Jackson's telling of the story of The Lord of the Rings is greatly superior.

I encourage you to try reading The Hobbit, because it's always great to pick up a book! It's a pretty short book, so it's not too hard to get through. Maybe you'll love it.

Without getting into any spoilers, Peter Jackson took a few liberties with the story (as he did with LotR) in the interest of balancing out his telling of it. I'm not too crazy about Azog in the movie (why he appears to be blatantly CGI when all the main orcs in LotR looked great as men in costumes; why the orcs are now talking in another language with really glaring subtitles), but I recognize why Peter Jackson's included him. (Tolkien wrote about him but did not include him in the telling of The Hobbit.) Again, I'm very excited for the next 2 movies.

After completing The Lord of the Rings, I trudged through the 100+ pages of appendices at the end of Return of the King. Obviously, it was not meant to be enjoyed as narrative (I assume), and I was not expecting to consider it a great literary work. It did give a lot of interesting insight into the depth of Tolkien's world and some of the back story that gets left out along the way (some of which Peter Jackson is incorporating into The Hobbit to make it 3 movies).

I just recently began reading The Silmarillion. I've always heard that it's the least enjoyable of all of Tolkien's books, but so far I'm enjoying it the most. We'll see how I feel at its completion, however.

    Ser Frog out.

    1. Great information on the difference in 2D and 3D, Ser Frog!! I definitely learned a lot 😀 I have only ever seen ONE movie in 3D. It was "Brave" .. I enjoyed it and was surprised how the 3D effects merely "enhanced" the scenery. I still haven't been to anything in IMAX.

I think adding The Hobbit to my reading list will be a must. I have felt a bit lost ever since Harry Potter ended so I am constantly looking for new book ideas.

Perhaps we should start a book club! Especially ones that turn into movies. Would be great to catch a movie together someday. 🙂

    2. That sounds great!

I hope you enjoy reading The Hobbit. Let me know your thoughts on it!

I didn't see Brave in 3D… still really liked it though.

OMGLITZY: Thankfulness 2013

Thankfulness 2013

Today is Thanksgiving here in the US… So happy day to all that celebrate it! Since I have a some international readers, I’m calling this post “Thankfulness” instead so it can be enjoyed by all.
Dictionary.com defines thankful as “feeling or expressing gratitude.” Whether it be for an object, a person, an idea, a place .. or really anything. Too often I find that I don’t acknowledge how grateful I am for things in my life. So here are a few wonderful things I am truly thankful for!

 My family!
I am incredibly close to my parents and family! My mom helps me put on nearly every cosplay and even attends conventions with me sometimes. And my dad is usually the one that is willing to drive us so we don’t have to worry about traffic and parking. They support my crazy interests and are always there if I need them. They are so cool and do so much for me and I am super duper thankful for them!
My kitty!
And of course my little Pixie Doodle is a part of my family, too. She gives me the best hugs and purrs and always snuggles with me at night. She has been in my lap the whole time I typed this, too! I am so grateful for the love she’s shown me!
My computer!
I decided to share this ridiculous picture because this is basically what I do all the time. And I am so thankful for my life! I love that I grew up with an interest in computers and video games. I enjoy being curled up in my chair with my headphones on listening to music. It’s my little part of the world where I feel most at home.

Books!
I wanted to show a photo of my whole bookshelf, but I’ve already packed it up! (I am in the process of moving.) And I couldn’t find a pic anywhere on my computer. But here’s a pic of The Hunger Games (since I just saw Catching Fire and LOVED it!) which is one of my favorite books. I have so many other favorites like Harry Potter, Twilight, The Mortal Instruments, etc and I am very thankful for the chance to read interesting stories and let my imagination take flight.

Disney World!
One truly remarkable adventure I was able to go on was visiting Disney World. I’ve considered moving to Florida just so I could go all the time. I wasn’t really sure if I would ever get the chance to visit, though, and my family made it happen. I was able to meet all my favorite characters and live out a dream. And due to some major flight delays, my dad and I were actually able to go again with some flight vouchers! This is a trip I will never forget, and I’m so thankful I was able to experience it.
The chance to be a chameleon!
I am definitely thankful for the opportunity to become anyone I want to be. Cosplay has been such a joyful way for me to express myself. I’m thankful I have a lifestyle that allows me to change my hair color, create costumes, and get the chance to meet new people. I am still quite a newbie at cosplaying, but I’ve really become attached the creativity it’s brought to my life!
:+:+:+:+:
So those are just a few of the wonderful things I am thankful for! I am looking forward to eating some yummy food and spending Thanksgiving with my family.
What are you thankful for?
