Tutorial: DIY Rainbow Highlighter

Have you dreamed of becoming a unicorn princess? Well then this tutorial is for you! No unicorn princess is complete without a prism of rainbows shimmering across their cheeks!
I first saw the rainbow highlighter craze on Instagram when Bitter Lace Beauty first launched their product. Their small independent business exploded overnight. The original product now has a 9-10 month preorder! Due to the long wait, many people came up with a "DIY" version that you can create at home. I followed several guides to see if I could make my own and took some pics of my process! Hope you enjoy!

Texas Renaissance Festival: All Hallows Eve

This year I attended the Texas Renaissance Festival for the second time! TRF is one of the largest festivals around with numerous vendors, performances, food and people to watch! I went on the weekend with the theme "All Hallows Eve" which was the right before Halloween. So many people came out in costumes of all kind. I decided to dress up as a fairy! I made the jacket and flower crown myself, and my tutu was purchased at a convention. I was most excited to show off my fabulous corset from Corset Story, too. The wig I wore was a Luthien in Warm Light Brown from Arda Wigs. I wore this for my Princess Anna cosplay and decided to leave in the blonde streak just for fun!

Share Your Blog or Fav Blogs

“Nrrrd Grrrl” by Jessica Grundy – available on Etsy
Hi friends! This is kind of a different post than usual. I am hoping some of y’all can help me with updating my blog reading list!
Since I got a new computer, my bookmarks got messed up 🙁 So here’s your chance to post your own blog or one you like to read a lot!
These are a few of my interests:
Cosplay, comic cons, fashion, makeup, hair dye, cats, gaming, fantasy (elves, fairies, magic), book reviews, kawaii, DIY
What I’d really like to start reading more of:
*Disney – any bloggers that might live in Florida or California and have annual passes and post about their daily trips! Also, Disney inspired outfits and cosplays.
*Easy recipes – I’m trying to cook more often, but need lots of guidance. Any *really* simple cooking blogs for beginners would be great.
Even if your blog doesn’t fall into any of those categories, please post in the comments! I’d love to branch out more.
I’ve been trying to google search new blogs, but all I come up with are big named blogs with lots of ads. Thanks for your help, and I can’t wait to see what y’all post 🙂

Sailor Moon Fan Picks and Party Ideas

Naoko Takeuchi, Toei Animation / Via codenamesailorb.tumblr.com
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal starts this weekend and the buzz is sure growing! I can’t believe it’s already the 20th anniversary and almost the premiere of the new show! The slightly different character designs took a little bit of time for me to get used to, but after seeing our gal in action in the official trailer, I am definitely impressed with the manga look and feel. So to help prepare you for a Sailor Moon filled week, I’ve put together some of my favorite magical girl items and party ideas!
Brush up on your Sailor Moon knowledge by reading the story that started it all. The first volume in the manga series is only $8 at Barnes and Noble or you can grab the box set for $46.

Hot Topic has a great selection of Sailor Moon t-shirts, plushies, keychains and posters. I have this large fabric poster in my room, and I’m dying over this cute rubber bracelet.

I’ve personally ordered from Kuma Crafts and let me tell you this jewelry is so lovely you’ll want one of every style! It’s very high quality, packaged well, and shipped fast. Even though it says “pre-order” on the site, the jewelry is made quickly after you purchase it and ready for you to wear in no time.
Crissy of the Dainty Fawn has some beautiful slouchy crocheted Sailor Moon hats available in her Etsy store! I’ve had my eye on the Sailor Chibi Moon hat – it’s SO cute!
I purchased the new Moon Stick by Bandai Proplica while I was at AKon this year! You can get it here on Amazon with free shipping, too. It’s beautiful and something every magical girl needs!
Fiction-Food.com has an easy step by step guide for making Sailor Moon Waffles! I think this may be the greatest thing I’ve found on the internet, and I can’t wait to try making these.
And while you tune into Sailor Moon Crystal why not transform yourself, too? Michelle Phan, a YouTuber and makeup guru, has a great video tutorial for all Moonies to help us become our favorite heroine.
:+:+:+:+:+:
I’m so excited to watch the reboot this weekend! You can find out more info on the show here.
Will you be watching the new Sailor Moon?
Do you have any favorite Sailor Moon merch or party ideas?
Share with me in the comments below! 🙂

Halloween 2013 – Saw Doll Makeup

For Halloween this year I decided to do my makeup like the doll from the horror movie Saw! I actually wanted to do this makeup for a long time and almost did this for Dallas Fan Days. This was my first time ever trying it, and I think it came out pretty good! I basically followed the steps found in this YouTube video. I didn’t have red contacts so my eyes are photoshopped in this first photo 🙂
Here’s how I did my makeup!
Start out with a blank canvas.

First, I used my white color stick by MAC and dabbed it all over like you do concealer or foundation. Then I used a big brush to blend it all over my face. This made it kind of sheer and looked more natural than Halloween face paint.

I kinda forgot to take step by step pictures after that. But next I did my eyes. I just put on a lot of eyeliner and used an eyeshadow brush to apply lots of black and grey shadow.

I also added some contour lines from my eyebrows down the side of my nose. Don’t make these lines too thick!! A little is good! Then I used my red eyeshadow to make the swirls on my cheeks and my black eyeliner for the lines on my chin. The red shadow is also what I used on my lips since I couldn’t find any red lipstick.
Next, I teased my hair with my teasing comb until it looked like a birds nest 😛 Then I hairsprayed it into place. You want it to be messy so don’t try too hard here 🙂
Finally, wear all black with a white collared shirt and add your red bow tie! I didn’t have a black blazer so I just wore one of my zip up jackets. The bow tie is a hair bow I’ve had since I was little that I safety pinned on. And I got my spider web tights from Target 🙂

I will stab you with my bread knife!

My mom and dad gave my Kit Kats and Reese’s for Halloween! These are my favorite candies 🙂

That evening we went to the mall to get 50 cent corn dogs from Sonic.

I got a lot of compliments on my makeup! I’m sure I spooked a few kids, too.

Want to play a game? Ha ha ha ha haaaa
We spotted this section at Barnes & Noble!

And then we got cupcakes to end the night!
:+:+:+:+:
Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween!
What did you dress up as?

Pinterest Favs

Here are a few of my favorite pins/likes I’ve added to my Pinterest recently! Anyone else have a Pinterest board? I am totally addicted to it! It’s so handy and is such a great way to organize things.
I loved this idea! It’s Sailor Moon Link!
And this is kinda Sailor Moon-ish, too. I want to rock some hair buns!
This is Kat Von D .. I think she made mixing up your eyeshadows look pretty cool.

Loved this print by Simone Legno! They are kinda pricey, but I might just have to order one someday.
Does this dress remind anyone else of Rainbow Dash’s Gala dress? I love it!

And finally, these just made my mouth water! I’ve recently discovered that I love avocados! And these avocado egg rolls with creamy cilantro ranch dip would be great for a movie night. Here’s the recipe!

Makeup Tutorial: Wonder Woman Inspired

Late one night I had a burst of energy to do my makeup. No place to go – just wanted to try something new. So I felt inspired to use themes from superheroes. I decided to start with Wonder Woman!
This is a simple tutorial on how to create a look based on Wonder Woman’s colors.
I plan to do more makeup looks inspired by other superheroes and comic books, too!
For the eyes I used the edge of a kleenex to make the blue a straight wing. Then I added the red and finally the gold. After that I went back with white eyeshadow to blend the edges of those 3 main colors. Add some eyeliner, mascara, and glitter and you’re done!
Since I did this randomly at night I didn’t fix up my hair. But to channel Wonder Woman try using rollers or a large barrel curling iron to get a voluminous look.
For my lips I used a reddish gloss as a base. Then I lined them with my red eyeshadow using a skinny brush and dabbed on gold eyeshadow in the center with my a finger. The eyeshadows stick to the gloss great.. just be sure to blend well.

Here’s a peek at what I used. The gold, blue, and white shadows were by Kat Von D and the red was MAC’s loose pigment. The gloss was by Urban Decay and the glitter liner is Sephora brand. I did my skin with my basic routine found in this tutorial except I added more gold to my cheeks here.
:+:+:+:+:+:+:
I would love to spend more time recreating this look again. And get proper photos, too. But I was pleased with my first attempt at it!
Has a superhero ever inspired your makeup or outfit?
Who would you like me to make a tutorial for next?

9 Easy Steps for Everyday Makeup

I’ve been wanting to do a makeup tutorial for a long time, but it’s kinda hard to photograph each step on your own! Someday I would love to make a video tutorial. For now I have done my best to show you how to do an easy, everyday look! This is a glitzy post so sorry fellas for the lack of geekiness. There might be a few of you that enjoy it 😛
What I used:
Almay Clear Complexion
MAC Concealer Stick
PUR Minerals Powder and Brush
Too Faced Bronzer and Blush Brush
Naked Eyeshadow Palette by Urban Decay
Pencil Eyeliner by Kat Von D
Great Lash Mascara by Maybelline
Lip Lites by Bonne Bell

Step 1 – Foundation: I use Almay Clear Complexion because it helps heal blemishes. Use a makeup sponge instead of your fingers to apply evenly to entire face.
Step 2 – Concealer: Put a little concealer on problem areas. For me I use it under my eyes and on any blemishes.

Step 3 – Powder: I love PUR Minerals Powder because it is lightweight on my skin. It goes on smoothly and helps prevent shine.
Step 4 – Blush: I had been mixing brown and pink blushes together until I found this bronzer by Too Faced. It works great on your entire face or you can focus it directly to your cheeks.

Step 4 (cont) – Blush: It’s important to note that you want to apply blush below your cheek bone. Its purpose is to create a shadow that chisels your face. This will give the illusion of a slimmer facial structure and make your cheek bones pop!

Step 5 – Eyeshadow: This may be the most difficult step for some. So keep it simple! I like Urban Decay’s Naked Palette because it has a matte finish. This will look more natural in person and will also photograph lovely! I used the medium brown in the crease of my eye and the light cream on the lid and under the eyebrow for highlights. Be sure to blend well!

Step 6 – Eyebrows: Using a blunt eyeshadow brush and the dark brown from the Naked Palette, carefully brush on some pigment to your brows. Don’t go overboard – you just want to add some fullness.

Step 7 – Eyeliner: I like my eyeliner dark and somewhat thick. So I applied mine to the lower waterline as well as the lash line. I go to a slight angle on the upper side – not quite a cat eye but it gives the illusion that your eyelashes are longer. Then using my blunt eyeshadow brush, I smudge it some for a smokier look.

Step 8 – Mascara: One coat of Great Lash Mascara is all you need for an everyday look. For a night out try an eyelash curler and multiple coats of mascara. I only apply it to my top lashes because I always end up with black spots if I do the bottom lashes.
Step 9 – Lip Gloss: This is my favorite step! I think a shiny lip ties the whole look together. I get chapped lips all the time so I use a gloss instead of lipstick. And I like lighter tones for my lip since I do a darker eye.

Before and After!
With a little makeup my skin looks smooth and my eyes stand out more. Since I am in the process of bleaching my hair it’s important to add some color to my face. This look is easy, quick (about 10 mins) and keeps me from looking like a zombie!

How many steps are in your daily makeup routine?
Do you have a favorite brand of makeup?
Any tips you want to share?

Healthy Hair Color Tips: Bleaching and Funky Colors

A question I am asked a lot is “How do you keep your hair so healthy?” Well let me first admit that my hair has been through a lot! But being a hairstylist that’s quite normal. We love to change our hair color often! It can take a toll on the strength and integrity of your hair strands. So over the years I’ve figured out what works best for *my* hair. I’m hoping this post will help others that might need some hair care advice, but remember everyone’s hair is different. I’ve been doing hair professionally since 2007, and I’ve seen firsthand the effects various dyes and products can do on hair. So definitely talk to your stylist for a professional opinion because they will know best!
For my own hair, I bleach the new growth (roots) with Wella’s Blondor and 40 volume developer. If I need to strip the color out of the ends of my hair I will use a lower volume that is not as strong. 40 volume on the ends of your hair is a bad idea! Sometimes I’ll wet my ends and shampoo it lightly then lather in some 40 vol bleach. That dilutes it a little and won’t be as harsh on your hair.
I typically let bleach sit on my hair for about 30 minutes under a shower cap. If you plan on doing a bright, funky color then you need your hair as light as possible and may need to sit longer. The best way to explain this is to picture a white piece of paper and different color crayons. The colors will be bright on the white paper, but if you took a darker piece of paper the colors won’t be as vibrant.
Once my hair is light enough, I rinse the bleach out with cold water (yes cold cold) and shampoo it with It’s A 10 Keratin shampoo. When coloring, I don’t use conditioner afterwards. This way my hair is more porous and the funky color will last longer.
Then I gently blowdry my hair until it’s completely dry and plan what color I want to do next. Lately I’ve been doing pastels. To make a pastel dye I squeeze a bunch of conditioner into a bowl. (I use any cheap conditioner since I use a lot of it. Just make sure it’s white. I used a blue one once and it didn’t lighten my dye.) Add some drops of color to your conditioner and stir. If it’s too light then keep adding more color until you like it. Here are some brands of color I use:
When you like the color in your bowl, start putting it on your hair. Always start at your scalp and work down the hair strand. Be sure to take small sections and completely saturate the hair. Funky colors will last longer if you really soak the hair in it. Then I put on another shower cap and let it sit for at least an hour. The longer the better! Most funky colors are demi-permanent, which means they don’t have any ammonia in them. They are not as harmful to your hair. Plus most of your concoction is conditioner and letting it sit on your hair for 1 hour+ is awesome. Your hair is so happy right now.
Once it’s time to rinse I use cold cold water again and let it run until it looks clear in the sink. I don’t shampoo or add any more conditioner to it. I just gently towel dry it and then let it air dry quite bit.
When I’m ready to blow dry I first add a quarter size amount of It’s A 10 Keratin Serum. The keratin helps rebuild the strength in your hair after the bleaching. Then I blow dry with a vent brush and flat iron as normal. After that I add another dime size amount of It’s A 10 Keratin Serum to give it a smooth and shiny finish.
It’s important not to shampoo your hair too often. I probably only wash my hair once a week. The natural oils in your hair are great moisturizers for dryness. I swear I am not endorsed by It’s A 10, but it’s also what I shampoo and condition with in-between coloring! I used a lot of products at the salon I worked at, and it’s the one I liked most. A more affordable alternative is the TRESemme Anti-Breakage collection. I’ve witnessed it work very well!
Finally, be sure to get regular trims to take care of any dead-ends, and try to avoid too much sun damage which can fade hair color and dry it out.
I hope this was helpful! Let me know! 🙂

Happy Things #14

I have been so busy lately and so many things have made me happy! I had to delete a few because I had so many pics in this post!

This is my salon Hair by Anna Lee. I decided to get that cute black and white zig zag bench for my salon and move the bulky shelf to another wall. I love having more seating for my clients.

Speaking of hair.. I bleached mine again the other day and toned it with some purple conditioner. It is looking very platinum!

My kitty Pixie had to have surgery on her front paws. You can read about her injuries here. We went ahead with the surgery because she just wasn’t healing on her own. But now she will be a happy kitty!

I am addicted to the mystery bags of My Little Pony. You never know which one you’ll get so I buy a bag any time I see them. I was SO HAPPY to find Barber Groomsby this time!! He has a scissor and comb cutie mark and barber pole colored bow tie. I put him on my station at my salon! So perfect!
Kat Von D released this new palette called Lady Bird .. It’s a matte set and I am in loveeee with it.
Recently Groupon had comic book headphones on sale for only $8. I got the Green Lantern for my mom and the Flash for me. This was my first time buying anything from Groupon and they arrived very quickly!
Last night I saw Jimmy Buffet in concert! And on my way back to the car I found this coconut bra on the ground. No one was around to claim so I figured it was meant for me 😛  Now my mannequin is in Margaritaville.
There was an update on EverQuest 2 with some new content added. This is the boss Volot in the Siren’s Grotto. He is hilarious.. he’ll summon a million little frogs to attack you. I won, of course. 😉
I’ve been on a search for macarons for awhile and never found any in town. I finally got to try some in Houston once. But the other day at the mall I saw this little kiosk that had cake balls and french macarons! I just squealed!! The raspberry one was delicious!
And finally, here’s an update on my Fiona cosplay. I made the ears and finished the axe!! I decided to remake the shirt because the first one was really uncomfortable. I think I am just about done with it and hope to get some finished photos soon.
:+:+:+:+:+:+:+:
Anything make you squeal with happiness in your life lately?

My own salon!

So I recently began working for myself as a hairstylist. We’ve only been open for a week and the salon already looks great. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s starting to come together and feel like home!
Move in day!
Trenette’s, Tiffany’s, and my station

A few days ago, my friend Kevin drove all the way from Austin to get his haircut! I am so glad he was able to visit the new salon. His hair looked awesome!

After his haircut, we adventured around downtown Dallas and tried a crepe for the first time. It was also my first time to try bubble tea. A strange drink but tasty!

I’ve definitely enjoyed the start of this new chapter in my career, and I am so thankful to have supportive friends and family!

Ikkicon 2012

Literally just got back from my road trip to Austin, TX for Ikkicon and was so excited about it that I just had to blog right away! It was very unplanned and spur of the moment so I didn’t have time to make a new cosplay. This was my first time to Ikkicon and although the size of the venue (like the dealer’s room and the panels) was smaller the amount of people was tremendous! As soon as I walked into the lobby I was blown away by how many people were dressed up in cosplay. Everyone had a wig on or ears or SOMETHING! It was so cool to see! I was most excited to meet up with several friends like Eric (we’ve been friends since high school!) and his girlfriend Marianne, Mia Moore who is my new BBFF (best blogger friend forever), Jonathan (who I met at AnimeFest), and Payton (also from AnimeFest and Fan Days) … So check out the pics and enjoy the anime overload!

Mia as Ramona Flowers & me as Rainbow Dash
My favorite part was the gaming room.

Jonathan as Doctor Whooves

Steampunk Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy
1st Place winners of the cosplay contest
From the movie 9
I think he won Best in Show in the cosplay contest.

Marianne as Seras Victoria from Hellsing

Payton as Dark Zelda.. And that was a great Link but I don’t know his name

What’s better than one Rainbow Dash? Two!

Jack Skellington and Zero
Sunday I decided to dress up as a Sailor Moon fan 😉
This was the swag I picked up.. Luna and Artemis plushes, some cute bows, and a free sticker from Cosplay in America – really cool site and super nice guy!

And this was my view from my hotel room! Austin is pretty cool!

Holiday Wish List

I know it’s kinda late to be posting a holiday wishlist with the world ending tomorrow and Christmas on Tuesday, but I figured it’s better late than never 🙂
Kit Kat Clock from Fred Flare, $54

Mini Starfish Pin from Sparkle Cove, $19
Unicorn Pendant Necklace from Betsey Johnson (sold out now.. doh!)
Legend of Zelda Shield Replica from ThinkGeek, $69.99
Carly Tufted Headboard from Target, $349.99
SmartCat Ultimate Cat Scratching Post from Petsmart, $69.99 (for Pixie of course)
Well those are my more expensive and totally unneeded items on my wish list.
But a girl can dream right!
What are some things on your wish list?

Intergalactic Planetary

Do you ever wake up with a song in your head? Singing or humming a tune that’s super random? I always wonder if it’s some sign that it MUST be the first song I listen to or something bad will happen. I mean why else would “Intergalactic” by the Beastie Boys be on my mind? So I googled the lyrics and put it first on my playlist.  Interesting and cute song 😛

“If you try to knock me you’ll get mocked
I’ll stir fry you in my wok
Your knees’ll start shaking and your fingers pop
Like a pinch on the neck of Mr. Spock”

So anyone doing something fun before the end of the world tomorrow?
I am booked all evening at the salon so my clients can go out in style! 😀

Pink Shelves & Hobby Lobby Brackets

As you saw in my previous post about my new salon, I have some bright pink shelves up on the wall!
Here’s a quick little tutorial on how I made them. 🙂
This was a fun and sorta easy project if you have time to make shelves from scratch! I have seen this project on Pinterest and also saw my friend make some. I say “sorta easy” because it was a little hard to screw the brackets into the wall and make sure everything was level. But other than that it was a breeze!
I got these brackets at Hobby Lobby for only $6.99.
Sometimes you can catch them 50%, too!
I also got some screws from Lowe’s. I got two different sizes.. Smaller ones for going into the board and longer ones to go into the wall.
We later had to use an anchor in the wall to make sure they were secure.
I used a poplar board from Lowe’s.. You can get different lengths.
And sand it first before you paint it.

I bought paint from Hobby Lobby appropriately named “Party Pink” for $5.99.
Use a satin varnish for a beautiful shine.

A finished board! Be sure to do both sides since you will see the underneath.
I was so nervous Pixie was going to jump on the boards. Then we’d have little pink paw prints everywhere. Wait.. that would have been kinda cute! 😀

After trying it both ways, it was easier to screw the brackets into the board first and then the wall.

Tada! What do you think? I sure love my new shelves! I am thinking about making a long one to go over my bed since I can’t find a good headboard. Have you ever made something totally from scratch?

Hair by Anna Lee

As some of you may know – I do hair! I was rooming with some friends for awhile but a month or so ago I got my own salon room! It’s a huge accomplishment, and I am so proud to have my own business. Decorating the room was a lot of fun, and I have another post about how I made the pink shelves with the brackets on the wall. I am so thankful my clients have followed me to my new salon. So if you need your hair done and you live around the Dallas area come see me!
You can “Like” me on Facebook, too!

Review: Denny’s The Hobbit Menu!

In honor of The Hobbit being released this week and with inspiration from GeekyGlamorous's post, I decided to give the special Hobbit menu at Denny's a try!

I was pretty excited about this and was quoting LoTR to my dad on the way. He had no idea what I was talking about, but he was eager to eat some food regardless. 🙂

When we sat down they brought us some samples of the Radagast's Red Velvet Pancake Puppies. And holy cow they were good! We told the waitress we were here just for the Hobbit menu and she laughed and gave us some time to take pics 😛

I eventually decided on the Shire Sausage Skillet with scrambled eggs. My dad ordered the Slam so we could try the Pumpkin Patch Pancakes, Seed Cake French Toast, and Shire Sausage. We were feeling breakfast to say the least!

The food was pretty good.. my sausage wasn't the best but the eggs and veggies were delicious. Dad's french toast was awesome and we just HAD to order some of the Red Velvet Pancake Puppies to take home with us. The coolest part were the free trading cards they give out if you order a Hobbit meal. Our waitress gave us 3 packs!

My 27th Birthday

So last month I turned another year older… I have finally reached that part in my life where I might start lying about my age 😉  .. Oh well!! I still act like a kid so I figured I’d celebrate like one.. My family and I ate at Gatti Town and had pizza! It’s definitely my favorite food ever. Afterwards, we played some games where I won a cute little dinosaur figure. Later, we opened some presents, and I got some Juicy Couture perfume, MLP collection toys, a Betsy Johnson and Kate Spade necklace and the coolest leopard hat! Then for dessert I had a strawberry cupcake. It was such a great birthday!! Thanks to my family for being so awesome 🙂

Makeup, Fashion, and Art Tutorials

When I am not blogging I am still usually at the computer .. Here’s a few tutorials I’ve found lately that I find cool on the net!
Really cool tutorial by Kandee Johnson for a Betty Boop costume. How cute is this?!
These two girls at Bubble My Licorice have loads of cute posts. They’ve done some hair and DIY fashion tutorials, too.
I enjoyed watching this video of Miss Leilani Joy draw Ramona Flowers. She gives some great tips on drawing faces. She is such a good artist!
The Dainty Squid shared a neat plant pressing tutorial.. I am a sucker for stopping in my tracks to pick up a pretty or unique leaf. Would be great to save them!
Have you watched or read any good tutorials lately? I made some cute shelves using Hobby Lobby brackets recently that I need to share someday!

Pixie Kitty Photo Spam

I have done a few cool things lately.. Like my birthday, Black Friday shopping, redecorate my salon (again!), see Breaking Dawn 2’s premiere, eat at Denny’s for The Hobbit meals, and paint some craft projects.. But since I don’t have those posts typed up YET…. Here are some cute pics of Pixie!! 🙂
She loves to help during raids on EQ2.. I bet she’s thinking “Kill the add, cancel the detriment, joust!”
(my guildies will understand, hehe)

Just chillin’ 😉

“Sacks make me hyper!”

Pixie and her BFF Rainbow Dash

Big yawn!

These might be my most favorite pics of Pixie! She looks like a prairie dog! She was giving herself a bath and heard something. Haha!
I call this Pixie’s “pink puff” .. She loves to sit by me when I am at the computer, and I found this cute pink cat bed at Petsmart.
Looking so pretty on my bed 🙂

Check out those eyes!! Pascal from Tangled had been hanging out on the back of the couch watching us.

Then Pascal photobombed us!! Promise I didn’t even plan this 😛

What I Wore: The Flash

Right now The Flash on the CW is one of my favorite TV shows! It’s on break at the moment and is due to return on January 20, 2015. So to fill in the time I decided to wear a Flash inspired outfit!

My awesome shirt is from Think Geek. I’m wearing a size men’s medium. My favorite thing about this shirt are the cute stripes on the sleeves!
These super rad leggings are from a store called Love Culture at my local mall. POW! And my boots are by Blowfish.
I’m wearing a Tarina Tarantino necklace, and my newly dyed hair is a mix of Manic Panic’s Hot Hot Pink with a lot of conditioner (to make it pastel) and a chunk of ION’s Mint.
:+:+:+:+:
I had so much fun putting this outfit together!
Are you looking forward to The Flash’s return in January?

Holiday Wish List: Part 2

I had so much fun gathering items for my Holiday Wish List 2014 that I decided to add more to it! These are things that I probably won’t get my hands on for some time so I’m just posting and chatting about them. Santa has already sent an elf to visit and there’s some super cute presents under our tree. So this post is just an add on of fun things I’ve seen online lately!
Source
The fairies by Amy Brown have been one of my favorite watercolor styles for as long as I can remember. She has a lot of great things for sell in her Etsy shop including figurines, jewelry and blankets. Some of her prints are pretty affordable and they even come signed.
Source
I began following Bad Witch Boutique on Instagram and after seeing their jewelry I became an instant fan. I tried to find a nice crystal necklace during my last few visits to the Renaissance festivals here. So far I haven’t found anything that was well-made or worth the price. The quality and style options of the jewelry from Bad Witch are amazing! I like the last two in the above photo the most, but they make rings, earrings and chokers, too.
If there is one thing I absolutely do not need it’s another headset. But this is called a “wish” list for a reason! I already have a working headset and it’s even the Razer Kraken! So why would I want another? Because they released it in FUSCHIA! They call it neon purple but it kinda looks pink to me (the last one in the pic). Either way it’s gorgeous! I’ve had my Kraken for several years now and love it. It’s super comfy and the sound quality is fantastic. I wear it all the time while I game or listen to music. The classic neon green is pretty cool, but you gotta admit the new colors are awesome!

Claire’s Wedding Ring
I began watching Outlander when it first premiered on Starz and quickly read the first book. The storyline was captivating, and I found myself rather fond of Jamie. I mean who isn’t?! Right?! So when Starz released an authentic replica of Claire’s wedding ring I was ready to purchase it right away. Well that came to a sudden halt after I saw it was $250! Omg! I mean that’s cool it’s designed by the original artist and all but SHEESH that’s expensive for something that’s actually kind of bland looking. Her ring described in the book sounds much more beautiful and a similar one can be purchased here. But since I’m anxiously waiting for the return of the TV series (April 2015 omg longest wait ever) I decided to buy this cheaper replica from eBay. This way I have something to wear while I watch, but I won’t feel bad should I lose it in a drawer one day. So that’s one wish on this list that Santa will be delivering. 🙂
Books!!
Since I brought up books, I figured I’d add some that are on my reading list. I heard they will begin filming a movie about the Fallen series by Lauren Kate this February so I’d like to read those before I see the film. I also think I’d enjoy Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. There are two more by Perkins so it’d be fun to get all three of her books. Santa usually gifts me an iTunes gift card so I’ll likely buy these for my iPad. I still need to finish The Maze Runner series first, though.
:+:+:+:+:
It’s so fun to shop online and there’s probably several items I’m forgetting to include. Maybe I’ll make a Part 3? Haha sorry Santa! It’s just for fun 🙂 You can read part one here.

Holiday Wish List 2014

These are a few of the spectacular things I have had my eye on this Holiday season!
The new PC I am using came with a great keyboard – but it doesn’t light up at all. I usually like to play in the dark so I’ve had a hard time seeing my keys. I figure go big or go home so I’m asking Santa for the Razer BlackWidow Chroma because it lights up like a RAINBOW! I tried out a Razer keyboard once before and didn’t much care for how loud the keys were – but this one comes in a Stealth edition meaning the keys are a little more quiet.
Source
Minnie Mouse Hat from Disneyland Tokyo
I saw this pic on Kelly Eden’s Facebook page and totally loved the hat that her friend (on the right) was wearing. That is Zilla308 so I asked on her Instagram where she got it. She said it’s from the Disneyland in Tokyo and is available on eBay. After searching, I found the seller (click here) and saw it also comes in purple, pink, and blue! I was ready to order one but it’s kind of expensive. I can’t justify spending that much on a hat so maybe Santa will send an elf to Japan for me and bring one back for Christmas.
Source
Disneyland Paris Anna Pin
Another item that feels a bit out of reach is this Princess Anna pin. It is part of a booster set from the Disneyland in Paris. The set is super cute, but I wouldn’t mind just having Anna. I’m totally taking advantage of the Frozen trend and buying everything I can with my name on it. However, most pins from other countries go up in price quite a bit here in the US.
Source
Pandora Charms
My mom and I had seen these charms before and thought they were not only cute but also quite classy. There is a Pandora store in our local mall and Disney began releasing charms as well. So I looked in to starting a bracelet only to realize these little guys aren’t cheap. That’s good and bad because it means they are very nice but not for my pocketbook. But maybe receiving one charm for each holiday would be a fun start to a new bracelet collection!
One of the great things I love about playing Guild Wars 2 is that it is free-to-play. There is no monthly subscription at all. You pay for it once and you have it for life. The catch is they release limited items, boosters, weapon and armor skins, and cute mini pets in their Gem Store. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t see something in the store I want to buy. So spending real money on Gems is something I’ve had to slow down on, but a gem store card would make a great stocking stuffer! 😀

My Birthday 2014

Once upon a time, a little girl named Anna was born in a small Texas town. And she grew up to love all things glitzy and geeky! Most of all she loved her family.. and donuts!
This year I achieved level 29! For my special day, I went on an adventure full of exotic animals and delicious treats!

Halloween 2014

You might think that a cosplayer would go all out on Halloween with an elaborate costume. Well that is usually not the case. Haha! I would say most of my cosplay friends actually enjoy buying either a store bought costume or wearing something more simple. For me, I have been dying to wear this Korilakkuma Kigurumi I bought at AKon. I dressed it up with my pink wavy wig from Gothic Lolita Wigs!

Most of the day I played Guild Wars 2. If only all the people I grouped with that day knew what I was wearing behind the computer! lol
Even my character in game was dressed up for the Halloween festivities.

My family and I ordered pizza. Yum! My favorite!

Finally, that evening we were ready to hand out the candy bags my mom and I made. Each bag had several candy bars and crackers and other sweets in them.

I had a lot of fun giving out candy to the kiddos! One parent asked if I was a polar bear. But most of the kids said they liked my outfit. There was a block party going on down our street so once that ended all the kids came to the door at once. It kinda bummed me out because they were rushing and I was rushing and I didn’t get to see their costumes very well. I do remember three kids were dressed as crayons. I think they were my favorite!

The Hunger Games: Meeting Peeta

I have a story I need to tell. It's one I've brought up to a few friends before. But I am hoping by typing out my feelings I may finally be able to overcome this grief.
Sounds really dramatic, huh? Well any serious fangirl would understand that when you have the chance of a lifetime – and miss out on it – you're gonna have to figure out how to move on.
So this is my "Meeting Peeta" post that has been on my mind for years now.

Happy Things #26

Here are some things that have made me happy lately!
My brown hair makes me so happy! I honestly never thought I’d say that. I colored it brown a little over a month ago, and it’s been great! I have had just about every hair color under the sun and while I do miss having it bright and funky – it was time for me to take a break. My hair was super healthy so it wasn’t my hair that needed the break – it was me. I always do my hair myself and it takes me an entire evening to bleach and dye it a crazy color. Now with it brown I haven’t had to touch it up at all. It’s faded some so I might darken it soon but gosh it’s been nice not having to deal with roots every two weeks!
This picture of Pixie Doodle makes me happy because I’ve never seen her sit on this heart pillow. I walked into the room and she was perched on it and it made a great pic! (Her face says “Are you seriously taking my picture AGAIN?”)

My new tattoo by Dru Bias at Saints and Sinners is one of my absolute favs now. It’s a cover up of a very old and bad tattoo so to see this amazing Luna kitty from Sailor Moon on my wrist everyday now is unbelievable. I had been getting my old one lasered off (I’ll make another post about that experience). Now I am just so happy to have this!

Octopie is one of my all time favorite artists! I first saw her work at Ikkicon two years ago and bought a print of hers at AKon this summer. When I saw her post that she was open for commissions I immediately jumped on it! I can’t believe all the little details she put into my chibi. She got my dice ring, tattoos, my star necklace and rainbow bracelets!! I love the Toki Doki headband and that’s my favorite wig from Gothic Lolita Wigs. Even my buttons made it in there! Gosh it’s just so perfect. Thank you Octopie!
Another cute pic of Pixie Doodle! (I have millions I could share.) This one is her watching me play Guild Wars 2. She loves it! She sits here all the time and even paws at the screen sometimes.

My final Happy Thing is this pic of Jim Shore at his signing last weekend. I was in the mall with my mom and we heard an announcement that he was going to be there the next day. We both stopped and said WHAT! We love his figurines and have collected many over the years. The day we met him he was incredibly polite and took a lot of time to speak to everyone in line. He signed our new Anna and Elsa, Olaf, and Snowman figures. It was a true joy getting to chat with him. You could honestly hear his passion about his art and craft in his voice. I’m so glad I could share this experience with my mom! BFFs!!

Tutorial: Sailor Ariel Cosplay

For AKon 25 and Anime Fest 2014, I cosplayed as Sailor Ariel – a mashup of The Little Mermaid and Sailor Moon. The original art for this was done by Drachea Rannak. Here is a walkthrough of how I made my costume. 🙂

Disney Pin Trading Board

On my second trip to Disney World, I was introduced to Pin Trading! I didn’t participate in it my first trip and let me tell you, doing the trading makes the experience even more fun! When going into each shop and ride you feel like you’re on a mission to check out what pins the cast members had. It was really exciting to try and locate certain ones – I was looking for the Disney Princess shoes. I also bought a couple like the Rapunzel and Tinkerbell and Grape Soda pin from Up. And the Elvis Stitch was a gift from my brother when he first visited Disney, too! A few of these were also traded with friends on Instagram and Facebook pin trading boards. This is a really fun hobby to have so I wanted to showcase my pins on a decorative board I could hang up in my room. And here’s how I made it!
Supplies needed:
Canvas – mine is 11×14
Paint brush
Acrylic paint
Ribbon
Tacky glue
Glitter
First paint your canvas any color you want. I chose metallic purple to match the ribbon I found at Hobby Lobby.
I did two coats of paint. Make sure to let the first coat dry completely. Before the second finished drying I sprinkled some fine glitter onto it.
Next, measure how much ribbon you’ll need and cut them into four strips.
Then dab on some tacky glue and use a brush to smooth it out. Lay your ribbon over it and gently press it down to smooth out bumps.
I let everything dry over overnight, then the next day I put my Disney pins on the board! I like this better than using a cork board because my mickey pin-backs stay with the pins.
I love having a special place for all my collected pins! And I hope to collect more someday and make another colorful canvas board for them.

Top 5 Fav Halloween Movies

October is one of my favorite months of the year! Spooky decorations, cooler weather, and another reason to dress up in costume! Halloween is in just a few days, and I’ve seen several of my friends post all month what movies they’ve been watching to get in the holiday mood. So here is my list of my favorite Halloween movies!
1. The Halloween Tree
This is my all-time favorite Halloween movie. I remember watching it as a kid and not only enjoying it immensely but learning, too. It was the first time I saw how Halloween is celebrated in different ways throughout the world. The main story of how the kids are trying to save their friend will pull your heartstrings, too.
2. Saw II
I’m not a big fan of horror movies. I actually can’t handle gore all that well. But for some reason the second Saw movie is one of my favorites. I still watch it with semi-closed eyes, though! I like how hey are all in a house together and each room has a different “game”. Out of the few Saw films I’ve seen this one stands out in my mind as the most exciting to watch. (Be sure to check out my makeup tutorial for Billy – the creepy doll from the movie!)
3. Edward Scissorhands
It’s hard not to include all of Tim Burton’s movies on my list, but Edward Scissorhands seems to be a very special film to me. The idea of a man with hands of scissors should come off as unnerving, but this films makes Edward appear more magical and soft than creepy or scary. If anything, it’s the rest of the town that makes your skin crawl which is exactly why this movie is so great. It’s beautiful and happy and sad and totally great for Halloween.
4. The Addams Family
Dun dun dun dun *clap clap* dun dun dun dun *clap clap*
“They’re creepy and they’re kooky; mysterious and spooky!”
Gosh this movie is so rad I almost stopped blogging just go watch it right now. The Addams Family totally embodies Halloween for me. Each character is so unique with mysterious personal characteristics! Put the whole family together in a wickedly awesome house and you’ve got one of the coolest families on the block.
5. Jeepers Creepers
I’m just as surprised as you are that Jeepers Creepers is on my list since I don’t like scary movies. But whenever it is on TV I can’t help but watch it. It’s a rather simple story, but jeez that monster really freaks me out. It’s one of the few horror movies that I actually like the ending of, too. And the song is just so catchy and fun to sing! “Jeepers creepers, where’d you get those peepers?”
Honorable mention:
Hocus Pocus, Underworld, Sleepy Hollow
You can’t have a Halloween list without Hocus Pocus! It’s a must-watch movie for the holiday. And Underworld is my favorite vampire movie. I would love to cosplay as Selene someday. Also, when I saw Sleepy Hollow in the theaters I couldn’t get over how beautiful it was. Christopher Walken also spooked me quite a bit.

2015 Year in Review

This year I've been a lot less active in the blogging universe than I have been in the past. But that doesn't mean I didn't have a productive year! I wanted to go ahead and round up some of my favorite memories from 2015. Off the top of my head I can remember lots of fun times with my family like going to baseball and football games, an art festival, the orchestra, and traveling around Texas. So let's jump right in and talk about a few highlights from the year!

Pixie’s Emergency Surgery

If you've been following my tweets, then you know Pixie had to go to the emergency vet a few nights ago. She had to have surgery done and is hopefully going to be feeling a little better soon. However, the vet bills hit unexpectedly. I set up a GoFundMe with more info on what happened and a way for Pixie's friends to send a few dollars her way.
Pixie and I appreciate any help. Even just happy thoughts!

Tutorial: Cinderella 2015 Cosplay

If you're like me then you totally fell in love with all the costumes in the new live action Cinderella movie! Lily James portrayed the princess perfectly! I knew right away that I had to have her dress in my life, but I was scared to take on such a project. Her dress is massive!! So with a little creativity I was able to recreate a version of that magnificent ballgown without breaking the bank. I realize I didn't make a 100% screen accurate cosplay and I'm okay with that. I still felt like a princess wearing this! I'm hoping this semi-homemade tutorial will help inspire someone else that might want to make Cinderella's gown. Enjoy!

Tutorial: Princess Anna Cosplay

Hi everyone! It's been way too long since I posted, and what better way to come back than with a cosplay tutorial! Halloween is right around the corner, and Frozen isn't going away any time soon so today I am sharing with you how I made my Princess Anna costume. I wore this cosplay to Animation Celebration last year and this past January I fixed it up a bit and took some better photos of it! I hope you find this tutorial helpful!

OMGlitzy! New blog! New name!

omglitzy.com

I’m excited to share that I have come up with a fun new name to go by – OMGlitzy! I’m still Glitzy and I’m still geeky, but I have felt like going by a different online handle for awhile now. I’m still going to update this blog with cosplay tutorials and giveaways, though. So don’t lose this bookmark! Since this site became cosplay centric and still gets lots of hits, I plan to keep it updated when I can. But my new blog www.omglitzy.com is going to be a little more random and a place for me to hopefully post more often without the pressure of making an epic post each time. What I mean is I started to feel like if I didn’t make a cosplay post with lots of photos, links, and information then no one wanted to read it. I didn’t want to clutter this site with random ramblings. I dunno, I am sure it’s just some weird blogger insecurity thing. But what I’m getting at is my new blog will be more laid back and easier for me to just chat about what’s going in my life!

I’ve already updated my Instagram and Twitter to my new handle – @OMGlitzy – but my Facebook and YouTube links will have to stay /GlitzyGeekGirl since they don’t offer name changes. I debated about how to handle my Twitch channel (since they don’t do name changes either) and ultimately decided that since I plan to stay pretty active on there that I would go ahead and make a new channel with my new name. So if you’d like to keep following me on Twitch head over to twitch.tv/omglitzy and give it a follow!

Thanks so much for staying interested in this blog while I’ve gone through some transitions this year. Coming soon here will be a Wonder Woman cosplay tutorial!

HUGS!!

What I’ve Been Up To

Hey everyone! It's been too long since I updated my blog! I think about it every day, but have just been busy with other new adventures lately. My blog was such a prominent part of my life for the last few years – it really has been hard taking a break from it. However, I would imagine most bloggers have to step back every now and then and give their brain a refresh. I'm ready to at least give you guys a little "What I've Been Up To" post!

Join Me on Twitch

My favorite game right now is Guild Wars 2, and just a few weeks ago I finally invested in a nice webcam so I could begin streaming my adventures in Tyria on Twitch! It’s been an incredible way to become more involved with the GW2 community, and I love that I’ve been able to meet new friends this way! I recently mentioned I would be taking a bit of a break from my cosplaying and blogging. So figuring out Twitch has given me a new past time that I’m really enjoying! You can still expect some cosplays and plenty of future blog posts, but if you want to check out my Twitch stream and chat with me live definitely follow my channel! You don’t have to play games to watch.. you could just come by and say Hey or ask me anything! 😀 And if you ARE a Guild Wars 2 player then you can expect some in-game items and gold giveaways! I already gave out a precursor last week!!! I’m even planning something pretty big for when I hit 1k followers.
Anyway, I just wanted to update you guys on what I’ve been doing lately! My Instagram/Twitter/Facebook have all stayed pretty up-to-date on my other shenanigans so give them a follow as well.. my name is @OMGlitzy on everything :p
http://girlhero.net
And if you are curious about learning how to Twitch and stream your own games then head over to my friend GirlHeroLori’s blog. She has some Twitch 101 posts with lots of great tips on setting things up, what programs and plugins to use, etc. She streams as well! And if you have a Twitch already leave your name in the comments so I can give you a follow back!

Cinderella Inspired Outfit

The new live action Cinderella movie comes out in a few weeks (March 15, 2015) so I decided to put together an inspired outfit. I always end up wearing jeans and a hoodie when I go to the theater… so this is one of those “what I would like to wear” posts! It gives me an excuse to browse fashion websites and hopefully inspire myself to dress up!
This stretch knit skater dress looks so comfy! And for only $15 from Forever 21 your wallet can rest easy, too. The signature light blue color is the perfect hue for our Cinderella outfit.
Cinderella’s classic puffy shoulders are cute and all, but I love the new look of the live action sleeves. To replicate the ruffled neckline I found this glittery fringe scarf from Wet Seal.
It’s all about sparkle and shine for Cinderella, and you don’t need a fairy godmother when you have the internet. Charlotte Russe has these fabulous blinged out glitter tights which are sure to turn a few heads.
A glass slipper may be the key to finding your prince charming so don’t leave home without these gorgeous metallic slip ons also from Charlotte Russe.
Keeping track of the time is incredibly important especially once it gets close to midnight. So don’t be a minute late with this stunning butterfly watch from Mod Cloth.
Complete your look with loose wavy hair and wearing this lovely butterfly headband from Claire’s.

Are you excited to see the new Cinderella movie?
Will you be dressing up?

Glitzy Geeky Jewelry

They don't call me "Glitzy Geek Girl" for nothing! If there's one thing I love most it's jewelry! I've always been drawn to shiny and sparkly accessories. My collection has grown quite a bit over the years, and for this blog post I wanted to showcase a few of my favorite "geeky" jewelry items.

PAX South 2015

Since my first visit to PAX Prime several years ago, I have been anxiously awaiting my next chance to attend another PAX convention. When they announced a new location to their schedule here in my home state of Texas I couldn’t contain my excitement! I bought tickets as soon as they became available and counted down the days until the con.
It’s now been a few weeks since my visit to PAX South in San Antonio, but looking through my photos have brought back all the wonderful memories. I went to Prime by myself so I was really happy to go to South with my family. We are all first and foremost gamers. My mom and brother especially! So it was super special to be able and share this convention with them and nerd out over all the games and merchandise.
After the 5 hour trip from Dallas to San Antonio, we checked in to our hotel and walked next door to the convention center. To me that is one of the best things about PAX conventions is how they place the events in large centers around great hotels and fantastic night life. We headed straight in and to the Nintendo booth to try and grab a paper Majora’s mask souvenir. It was already gone for the day, but we did manage to get one the next morning!
Another great thing about PAX is the chance to try out new and upcoming games. My mom and I played the demo for Dungeon Defenders II and loved it! It was really colorful and interactive. I was so proud of my mom for trying out a PC game. She’s usually into console gaming. We were on easy mode but still enjoyed the gameplay and features. Plus we got a code for an early release and also a limited edition pin.
That evening we explored the rest of the convention center and checked out the Magic: The Gathering tournaments as well as some panels. I was excited to see my friend Mia Moore at the Women in Geek Media Panel!
The next morning I woke up really really early to get in line for the Guild Wars 2 panel. They weren’t letting people in the doors until 8am so my dad and I got there around 7:15am. There was already a line outside the building but once we got inside most everyone went a different direction than the main theater where the panel was to be held. So me and my dad and the two guys in front of us went straight to that queue and began our 2 hour wait until the panel started. Lucky for us we were awarded a Corsair Gaming Mouse for being one of the first 5 people there. I also got to meet two of Arena Net’s marketing team members and also cosplayer Sarah Cain who was dressed as a Guild Wars 2 character. The best part was seeing my face on the live Twitch stream. I was seated close to the front and in the center and my white hoodie and pink hair showed up nicely in the sea of black shirts. (See top right photo; I’m above his shoulder.) You can watch the stream here.
We spent the rest of the day collecting street passes on our Nintendo 3DS and then exploring some of San Antonio. My family and I ate at a great Mexican restaurant on the River Walk. Even though it was chilly it was just nice enough to be able to eat outside. Then we walked along the rest of the River Walk and found the The Alamo. I visited this once when I was very little but sadly don’t remember it. (How dare I not remember The Alamo!!) So I was very very excited to make up for it and take in all the history of this monument.
One of the best things about a PAX convention is all the free swag! I came home with SO many goodies! I bought a few of the collectable pins and adorable books they had and also a sticker sheet and patch. But literally everything else was free! I got Magic: The Gathering cards, the Majora’s Mask, lanyards, several coupon codes for online stores, and best of all a Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns shirt and pin!
:+:+:+:+:
This was a very memorable trip and one I am happy to have spent with my family. I am looking forward to PAX South growing and becoming bigger and better next year.

Glitzy Geek Update

You may have noticed my blog posts haven’t been quite as frequent, but have no fear! I am still here! I figured since several of you might come by to check this I’d give a little update on what’s up in my glitzy geeky life.
My blog began as a means for me to just express what was going on in my day to day life or stuff I shopped for and what not.. Then it blossomed into this exciting cosplay and craft tutorial hub! In 2014, I really went on a lot of great adventures to comic cons, concerts and other events. I feel like my blog focused on a lot of those things which is super cool because it’s so fun to go back and look at those posts.
This year, I plan to slow down a little bit on the cosplay lifestyle. I definitely would love to keep making things and dressing up, but I’d like to find a focus for my time and money somewhere new. That doesn’t mean I won’t make something or attend a comic con – because I definitely will! I love doing that! I just think I might try some new directions here and there.
The fun part is I don’t even know what that means! 😀 I actually don’t have much planned at the moment which is great because it leaves the door open for all sorts of opportunities. I have ideas in my head for blog posts that might be a tad more about some life experiences I’ve had (like being a cosplay guest, being a business owner, making friends on the internet) .. stuff like that! I just feel bad not posting a post with a ton of photos. I mean I’ve read blogger tips and most of them say don’t post a big wall of text. I don’t want my blog to completely change, but I do want to add some sort of new material to it.
So anyway that’s just some things that have been on my mind at the start of this new year. I do have a post coming soon all about PAX South in San Antonio and also a craft tutorial for my Rapunzel crown. As well as new giveaway prizes! Definitely come back soon for all those updates and more! I’m still here, I’m still geekin’ out, and I still love reading all your comments and getting to know all of you.
You can find me post pretty often on my Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, too!
Hugs to all!

Life Update: Houston, Pixie, and Guild Wars 2!

Hey all! I know it’s been too long since I updated! Sorry about that! I think of all these cool posts in my head when I’m not at the computer but when I sit down to type the words don’t seem to flow. I’ve just been busy with real life things lately.
As I have mentioned before, I moved from Dallas to Houston a few months ago. I mostly moved here for family reasons but also because I thought I had some good leads on jobs. Unfortunately it just hasn’t worked out in my favor. I applied at over 20 places and none of them were meant to be. I was at a salon for a little bit but it’s hours did not work with my schedule. I’m spending time now focusing on my family and dealing with some other personal things before I dive back into the job search.
I also found out this week that Pixie is going to need surgery again. She has tooth resorption and last fall she had a serious accident where her top canine broke off due to decay and she developed a fistula. She had most of her teeth extracted except for her two bottom canines and a couple teeth in the back. I’ve been taking her to see a vet about once a month to make sure it doesn’t get worse. When I moved to Houston, the new vet I visited barely looked in her mouth and never called me back. I didn’t want to go back to him so I found a different one this week and really liked her a lot. This vet looked at Pixie’s mouth very closely and decided it would be in Pixie’s best interest to have all her remaining teeth extracted. Things have progressed rather rapidly again. Her gums are very inflamed and seem to be rejecting her bottom canines. The teeth are literally being “pushed up and out of her gums” and are likely to break off soon if not taken care of. It’s also very painful. The good news is she doesn’t have any infections yet since I caught it early this time! Pixie is scheduled to have her surgery this coming Monday, and we are all hopeful that this will finally put an end to her gum issues.
In some other super good awesome news – I got a partnership with Guild Wars 2 and ArenaNet!!! This means if you use my links to buy Heart of Thorns or try the free to play version a small portion will directly support me!! This was a dream come true and has been a complete honor to be a part of. I have been able to meet amazing people in this community and that has honestly been the greatest reward. The game has some very exciting updates coming soon with Living World Season 3 being launched on July 26. So it’s a great time to check it out!
I do plan to eventually apply for a Twitch subscribe button again. My numbers have increased since the last time I applied, but now the problem is I don’t have a set streaming schedule. I don’t really have time to be consistent during the week besides Monday nights. I hope to change this as soon as I can, but of course family needs to come first. So I appreciate everyone that does tune in whenever I am live!
More random things I’ve done lately can be seen on my Instagram or Twitter. I went to the Houston Aquarium for my brother’s birthday, checked out my first Houston comic con – Comicpalooza, saw a Houston Astros baseball game and have actually been getting some exercise with PokemonGo. Dealing with anxiety and stress can be hard but I am thankful for all the good moments I’ve had. 🙂
Thank you all that have kept in touch with me on social media! Hope you have a good week!!

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #8

What is your name?
Vætr Droppin Bombz!

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?

Or how long have you been playing?
I’ve been playing since beta!

What made you want to try the game?

A friend of mine was talking about it; sounded interesting and unique, plus I had never played an MMO, so I figured why not give it a shot!

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?

Dagger/Dagger Elementalist! I spent a lot of time training and playing Ele in general, and to me D/D Ele is extremely fun!

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?

Go to my home instance or guild hall and collect my daily nodes.

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
I totally “Shut up and take my money!” Lol. I like the new maps; the sense of urgency, to complete objectives, and overall involvement with the content is good. The maps are expansive and detailed, and are just really fun to explore.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?

I want to craft a second Eternity, and also craft Flameseeker Prophecies.

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
I am in the best guild evah, Ethereal Guardians [EG]. They’re PvE centric, but do a lot of PvP and WvW as well. Well rounded guild, fully upgraded buffs, and the best Guild Hall! Check them out, put in an application! http://etherealguardians.com/recruitment

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?

More consistent updates for WvW that involve ANet actually paying attention to what the WvW community is asking for. Separate balance patches for WvW, PvE, and PvP. Better/more consistent rewards for the more difficult content. More non-raid dungeons!!!! =D

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
Metrica Province! It is wrapped in mystery and rich with lore. It feels like there’s a lot there worth exploring and investigating beyond what the naked eye can see.

March Thoughts

Another month has passed already?! It sure seems like 2016 is zipping by! I would have loved to have filmed March vlog, but there just hasn’t been enough time in the day to do so. I hope you don’t mind another blog post then! :o)

March actually was a lot happier than February. I was recovering from a lot of defeats and have taken time to reflect on how to improve myself. I made a list of some memorable moments from March so let’s dive in!

Dyed hair – One of the most exciting changes this month was dying my hair back to pink. Last October I shaved my head and have been letting it grow without any bleach or dye. It was getting about an inch or so long and was just a boring dark brown color. Since I don’t really have a plan on what to do with it, I decided to dye it pink again! Even though I still wear wigs from time to time, I enjoy having my colorful ‘do back.

Gaming – Let’s start with EQ Next. This is a game that was announced back when I attended SOE Live several years ago. I’ve always been a big Ever Quest fan and was really excited for EQ Next. Well sadly, they announced that the game will no longer be happening. It broke my heart to read about it. I may need to revisit EQ2 soon. In happier news, I’ve been playing a lot of Dragon Mania Legends which is a mobile app game that is very easy and addicting. In March, they released a new “Clans” feature where you can group with friends to earn new rewards. It’s one of the only mobile games I’ve actually stuck with now for a nearly year! Finally let’s get into a recap of Guild Wars 2. This month I decided to make the legendary shield The Flameseeker Prophecies. I had almost all the materials for it and really liked the design so I just went for it. A few days later the devs announced that they were postponing the release of new legendary weapons indefinitely! What!! So that means all this time waiting for the new weapons that they promised with the expansion won’t be happening after all. I admit I was pretty bummed about this news. I would have made the sword Bolt instead of the shield, but I was waiting for the new sword to come out. I guess that won’t happen so now I will be making Bolt next. Some good things that happened in GW2 was the new raid wing, the return of the Bunny Ears and the big giveaway party I hosted on my stream. I gave away lots of prizes and had a fun time in Lions Arch with my friends and guildies. I’ll be hosting a giveaway on the last Friday of every month so if you missed it you can join us for the next one!

Moving – You can read the whole story on this blog post. But the TLDR version is I made a trip down to Houston to look for an apartment and find a new job. I found a very nice place that would be available mid April so I made the jump and signed a lease! I’m nervous and a little sad to be leaving Dallas, but this will be a good opportunity for me. It will be fun to explore a new place and also get back in to the beauty industry for my career. So I am looking forward to the move. It’s just been very hectic now trying to organize, clean, and pack my things in preparation.

Divergent – I saw Allegiant in theaters this month. Here’s my mini review of the new movie: I’ve been a big fan of the books and really loved the first movie. The second movie was okay but seemed too heavy on CGI. I was hoping the 3rd installment of the series would redeem itself but it left me going home really unhappy. It’s like they totally forgot about telling a good story and focused all of their money and energy on visual effects again. Also, Tris just seemed very unlike herself and lost all of her character development. Many of the scenes and lines came off cheesy and nearly made me laugh (and not in a good way.) The only thing I enjoyed about the movie was Four. The actor played his role well and the character made smart decisions and looked like a badass. I enjoyed his moments more than any others, but it still wasn’t enough to get me excited for the last movie due next year.

Easter – It was a little weird having Easter so early. Isn’t it usually in April? My family and I kept things pretty laid back and decided to order pizza for the weekend. I also got some cute cards in the mail and had a great day!

Store – While cleaning out my room and closet I found tons of nice purses, jewelry and decor that I just no longer use -or never used to begin with – and decided to open a Storenvy! I have had 2 sales so far and hope that my other items will find a new home soon. The money will help go towards my move, too! omglitzy.storenvy.com

Pixie update – This actually happened today rather than in March but since it’s fresh on my mind I wanted to fill you in! I took Pixie in for her 2 month check up on the state of her gums and teeth and the vet said things are still looking good! I’m glad the few teeth she has left are doing alright so she won’t need any removed any time soon. I let the vet know that I am moving to Houston and it was a little sad to say goodbye. They’ve been a great clinic to go to and have really taken good care of Pixie. I hope I can find another nice vet in Houston.
That’s about all I can think of for March! Overall I would say it was a very good month. ^.^

I opened a new store! Shop my closet!

The last several days I have been cleaning my room in preparation for my move to Houston! In the process, I found some nice items in my closet that are either gently or never been used. I decided to open a shop on Storenvy so I can raise some money for my move. All sales are US only and shipping is only $4 (and $1.00 for any additional item.) Right now I have a lot of purses and necklaces from brands like Betsey Johnson, Juicy Couture and Tarina Tarantino. I also have my My Little Pony blind bag collection listed and some really cool metal tin comics. This is also a chance to grab one of my cosplay prints since I found a folder with a few left over from my when I had an Etsy store. I hope you see something you like and if not please share it with your friends that might be interested!
Thanks and hugs!

I’m Leaving Dallas

Whoa what a heavy title for a blog post! Well it’s true. I am going to be leaving Dallas in April to move to Houston! I came to Dallas in December of 2009 completely on my own and ready to take on the world. I’ve loved my stay here. I’ve grown so much in many areas of my life. My career really blossomed when I became a manager for Regis and then eventually running my own business by opening a salon booth. It taught me a lot about the beauty industry and if I could I would do it all again. I took a break from doing hair to try my hands at other career options, but I’ve had trouble finding one that fits me. In Houston, I plan to work at a salon again and get back into the field I love most. There are about 6 different salons in the area that I will be applying at. I’m confident I’ll be able to find one that is right for me.
It’s hard to say goodbye to Dallas because of the amazing comic conventions and cosplay scene here. I’ve been able to meet a lot of fantastic friends and embrace a new hobby that really gave me life. Houston has some conventions of it’s own and hopefully once things settle down I can start making costumes again. I’m thankful for all the great opportunities Dallas has provided, but I am looking forward to new doors being opened soon.
There are some other reasons that I am moving. Y’all know I’ve had some ups and downs recently. I don’t plan to mention or dwell on much of it. Let’s just say I know this will be for the best. However, I felt it would be good for me to go ahead and share this news because y’all always lift me up with your kind comments and words of encouragement!!
If you’d like .. and you don’t have to so don’t even worry about it .. but if you’d like you can donate a few dollars to my move fund by using the PayPal donation on my Twitch channel. If I am live streaming your message will appear on stream and I can thank you personally, but if I am offline your message will be for only me to read. And you don’t need a Twitch account to donate (I don’t think) and there are no fees this way! So it’s just there if you feel like it – I appreciate any support!
I’ll probably be pretty busy the next couple of weeks, but once I am in my new place in April I hope to get back into the swing of things again with regular posts and streams. I’m excited to go on some new adventures in Houston and have new things to actually post about! 😛 For now the best place to see updates from me is on Twitter – @OMGLITZY – if you want to follow me there. Thank you all for reading and being so sweet and kind to me! HUGS!

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #7

What is your name?
AlaynaEvenstar

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?

Or how long have you been playing?
At launch!

What made you want to try the game?

I had a group who had played the original guild wars and so I decided to jump in to GW2 with them. We all preordered and were logging in on day 1 to keep our character names etc

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?

Elementalist 100%. I love the complexity of the attunements and find that I play so differently then I did when I first rolled my Ele just learning all of the nuances.

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?

I usually see what the dailies are and try to knock them out.

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?

If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
I was at the announcement panel at PAX South and definitely preordered HoT!! The new maps are gorgeous and the gliding adds a whole new layer to things. The fact that we can now glide in central Tyria is AWESOME.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?

I want a legendary! I never started down that path before the expansion but now I am definitely working through getting the mastery track and getting the precursor that way!

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!

If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
I’m in a tiny guild that is just real-life friends. We are way behind in the whole guild progression stuff because there are only 4 of us who regularly log in but we are determined we are going to get out guild hall!

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?

Not really. There are always little bugs here and there at patch launches etc but overall I think they do a good job of keeping things working and interesting.

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
Oooo that is tough. Probably Hoelbrak. Just to see the scale and grandeur of it.

February Thoughts

I was hoping to make a February Vlog for YouTube kind of like I did for January but seeing how it’s already March 7 I figured let’s just type it out this time! I really don’t want to lose momentum from the boost of creative energy I had at the beginning of this year. February was a true test for this because life sure did like to tell me “NO!” I applied for so many things in February and every single thing came back negative. I’ve been reaching out more to friends and that’s really helped me keep my chin up. I received so much positive feedback and advice after my “Staying Positive” blog post. I read all the comments and emails and private messages and to be honest that’s truly what has kept me from throwing in the towel again. Last year I gave up so easily at the first sign of defeat.

In February, I applied for a Twitch subscribe button. They got back to me with the standard “We receive a lot of applications and have to choose wisely. Please apply again in 2-4 weeks if you want.” So I’ve been researching more what makes a Twitch channel great. I’ve come to realize that it’s truly about building a community. I’m going to focus more on that and hope to make any viewers that stop by my channel feel excited and welcome to be there. So I’ve been thinking of ways to do that and hope we can all grow more soon and maybe reapply for the button in a few more weeks.
I also applied for a partnership with Guild Wars 2. I sent it in once at the beginning of February and another at the end. No reply. I’m guessing they might not be accepting new partners right now. They recently announced that their Game Director (Colin Johanson) was leaving. I imagine there is a lot going on there. So for now I am not going to worry about that partnership and may reapply another time if it seems like they are interested in accepting new creators.
Probably the biggest bummer was seeing the response to my job application. I submitted it online for a pretty cool company in my area and felt super confident I would be a perfect fit for them. They never called me and a few weeks later I finally checked my submission on their site and saw the “received” was changed to “reviewed; not selected”. I admit I was pretty upset they didn’t even want a phone interview. It felt as if I wasn’t given a fair chance at proving myself. However, I have learned from this how important your application and resume must be. Not only for this job but for all the things I’ve been applying for lately. I can’t just assume what I put down is going to land me everything I want. I have to keep improving and growing. That means I can’t lose momentum here. If I continue to sit back and twiddle my thumbs nothing is going to change. So it’s up to me to push myself to become better!

February wasn’t all drab. Tsum Tsum Tuesday was fun because they released the Star Wars collection. Pixie had a positive check up at the vet. I attended the Dallas Boat Show and saw some cool and sparkly boats. I started playing RuneScape which is actually really fun! I was able to have lunch with some family I hadn’t seen in awhile. Valentine’s Day was a blast as I hosted some giveaways on stream and received the cutest dragon plushies from my parents.

I uploaded my first wig review video that I worked pretty hard on. My raid group on GW2 has progressed so much that we actually kill all 3 bosses in less than a hour. A super kind gift arrived from Jerome J. who got me a Hogwarts robe from my Amazon wishlist. And finally thanks to the generous donations from my Twitch stream I upgraded from my 9 year old desk chair to a fancy DXRacer Racing Series chair! I plan to make a whole review post about it so be on the lookout for that soon.

After typing and rereading that last paragraph, I realize that I am still guilty of dwelling on the negative. I mean SO many great and happy things happened in February. Sure some bad was mixed in there, but one of the great things about blogging is discovering yourself in the process. Had I not typed that out and reflected I may have never seen how truly good life can be. Thank you all for sharing this journey with me and I hope you have a great week!

Glitzy

Wig Review! Kamo Wig from Amazon

Hey everyone! I made my first “review video” for my YouTube channel!!! It’s all about a wig I have been wearing a lot lately that I purchased from Amazon. As you may know, I own and wear a lot of wigs. I’ve been meaning to make reviews for them so I’m really excited to finally share this with you!
The Kamo 26″ Layered Wig was purchased from Amazon by ME! I was not paid or asked to make this review. I was looking for a natural wig to wear on my Twitch streams and came across it on Amazon. It had decent reviews and for only $16.99 I figured it was worth the try. Turns out it’s one of my all time favorite wigs now! I loved it so much I bought two – one to leave long and another to trim a little shorter. I’ve been wearing it a lot lately and it looks and feels very natural. Please check out my video for more details and a better look at it! This wig would be great for cosplayers or anyone that is on a budget and looking for a nice blonde wig.

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #5

What is your name?
Vulkaane

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?
Or how long have you been playing?
I started playing in August 2013

What made you want to try the game?
A few of my friends and I were looking into new MMOS to play and we had some recommendations on trying out Guild Wars 2.

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?
Elementalist because it’s different than what most people are used to. The different type of play style really caught my attention and I love every minute of it.

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?
I always usually check out the Gem Store first. Love seeing what new things Arena Net has added to the game. Then I usually go to my guild hall and hang out with a few guildies at the Guild Hall bar and talk about what world boss we will kill first. 😛

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
I have bought Heart of Thorns. Honestly I love it. The New Profession is really fun, the maps are HUGE and I really love gliding around everywhere. I also like how the events are more immersive in Heart of Thorns.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?
First goal is to finish map completion on my Revenant.
Second goal is to make Nevermore and Astralaria.

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
My Guild is Apocalyptic Armageddon(AARM) on Tarnished Coast Server. We are 5 guilds on a single server and we participate in every aspect of GW2 (PvE,PvP,WvW etc.).

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?
I would like to see Super Adventure Box return to GW2 and maybe even Dragon Bash.

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
I would say Lion’s Arch because all the trading that goes along in there. Lion’s Arch has a lot of different aspects that most cities would not have. And let’s face it, a giant wedding ceremony spot on a big rock is pretty awesome 🙂

Staying Positive

So what’s up! What’s been going on! Well I’ve been trying out some new things recently that haven’t gone exactly as planned. So let’s chat about it!

First up, I applied for a Twitch Partnership. This means I could have a “subscribe” button on my page and make a little bit of money while also being able to give more back to my viewers! This is the second time I applied and once again I was declined. Twitch didn’t tell me exactly what I need to work on, but they did say to apply again in about 2-4 weeks if I feel passionate about it. So I decided instead of accepting this as a defeat (which I admit I kind of did the first time) that I will keep my momentum going and push even harder and try to apply again. I mentioned this on stream a few days ago. Everyone was very supportive and kind!! I think if we can just keep doing what we’re doing maybe the stars will align.
Another thing I applied for was an ArenaNet Partnership. They offer a sponsorship program now for creators and since that’s basically the only game I live and breathe for I figured it’d be a perfect fit for me. Well unfortunately they never replied or accepted me. I applied for this several weeks ago and still haven’t heard back. I suppose I will try again because I feel like I’d be a great match for them. It’s just hard when no one tells you what you are doing wrong! I see others that are about the same size/level as my site and channel with sponsorships. Maybe I’m just not active enough? Well I also won’t let this bring me down. I gotta use the passion I have to propel forward and apply again!
Finally, I applied for a job in real life that’s totally different from what I’m used to. It’s a position I know I would excel at and in a field I’d love to grow in. I won’t go into the details, but long story short all last year I applied for several different jobs (both in and out of the hair industry) and nothing seemed to click. So when this job popped up nearby I was very excited to apply! However, once again I haven’t received a reply. I believe in myself and that I’m totally qualified for all that I’m seeking. So I just need to learn how to be more patient. Things don’t happen overnight and doors don’t magically open for you. Sometimes you gotta prove to the world what you are capable of.
Last year, I let little things bring me down pretty quickly. There were other battles I haven’t mentioned, too. I’m trying my best to keep a positive outlook and change the direction of my feelings after facing a setback. It’s a little unlike me to post or talk about these kind of things because I do try very hard to have a good attitude on social media. my blog, and now my stream. But you know what? Shit happens sometimes! Thank you Forest Gump for teaching me that. It’s how you react to it that defines you. So I’m staying upbeat and looking forward to whatever comes my way.

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #4

What is your name?
Archon. Archonbrood on twitch. My main character is Juneko.

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?
Or how long have you been playing?
Since beta. Pretty much haven’t stopped, though sometimes i play it more casually.

What made you want to try the game?
Been playing GW1 since it was beta, so i was waiting for it since it was announced.

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?
I love my Thief. I think party i really like the character i made, which is a bit of a story itself, as well as the high risk thief gameplay.

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?
Look for my girl, Bell <3 .="" a="" br="" brown="" currently="" do="" dye="" farming="" flax="" for="" like="" make="" mats="" or="" pigment="" potatoes="" run="" salvage="" scribing.="" to="" usually="">Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
Yes. I generally like the new events and meta’s. But i think they go on for too long sometimes. Also, tangled depths is a real pain to navigate.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?
Considering making another legendary. Need to map complete my revenant at some point and finish story on him.

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
Currently in the lunar wolves [WPAK]. 490+ members, pretty active, but kind of quiet atm due to not a whole lot of new content atm.

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?
Finish the rest of the new legendaries, including the back piece. remove all the bugged and fail events needed for their collections. some of the new adventures really need some tweaking, as do the new zones, it would be nice if they were more casual friendly. skill balance could use some work, it would be nice if all classes were viable in raids, pvp, etc.

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
LA probably, i like the coast. Although i wouldnt mind wandering around rata sum and pushing random buttons 😀

My Top 5 Fictional Valentines

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and as a single gal I couldn’t help but daydream about who my favorite fictional Valentine would be! It’s no surprise that most of these are characters in shows I’m currently hooked on!
Barry Allen aka The Flash

In the show Barry has taken a few lucky girls on some interesting dates from bowling, to coffee, to lavish dinners. I imagine Barry would be fun to spend an evening with just chatting and laughing. He’s laid back and smart and let’s not forget a super hero! 😛

Jace Wayland

I’m going to save my opinion of the new Shadowhunters show for another post. (It’s not the best.) So let’s focus on Jace the character! Sure he may be a little self-absorbed at times but you can guarantee your date with him wouldn’t be boring. I actually like how in the show he is portrayed as very caring and protective. And he’s not bad to look at either! 😉

Poe Dameron

After I saw The Force Awakens I had trouble choosing a favorite character because they were all fantastic. Poe stood out to me the most, however, with his charm, strength and overall positive attitude. I’d love to go on a date with him because I am sure he’d be a gentleman with lots of cool stories!

James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser

If Jamie Fraser from Outlander is NOT on your fictional Valentine list then you are missing out! He has got to be one of the most romantic and thoughtful characters I’ve experienced in a book and show. He would quite literally risk his life for you so just imagine how great of a Valentine he’d be!

Augustus Waters

He may not have super human strength or be able to fly an X-wing, but Augustus from The Fault in Our Stars has a magic all his own. From his witty comebacks to his deep thinking, he would grant you meaningful and memorable moments. Not only that, but he’d be patient, kindhearted, and thankful for any time spent with you. He’d be a perfect Valentine. <3

I’d love to hear who your top 5 are so be sure to leave a comment!
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

Vlog: Why I Won’t Be at Dallas Fan Days

Hey everyone! This weekend is the Dallas Fan Days! I’ve been attending all of the Dallas Comic Con events since 2012 but this weekend I won’t be going! I filmed a short vlog to explain why! Hopefully I can see my Dallas friends at another convention soon. Let me know in the comments what your plans are this weekend, too!

Hey everyone! I filmed a short vlog for January to give you all an update on what’s been going on lately! I also talked some about Pixie and how she’s feeling. I’m really looking forward to this year being a good one. 2015 was kind of weird but so far January has been pretty awesome so I am hopeful for more exciting things to come! Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #3

What is your name?
Ombr

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?
Or how long have you been playing?
I have been playing GW2 since the first public beta release!

What made you want to try the game?
I’m a fan of GW1, so playing GW2 was a normal transition. I have been playing GW1 since the release of Factions. The new mechanics that came with GW2 (jumping, swimming, dynamic combat, etc) got me really excited for GW2.

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?
My main is a thief. In fact, I have three thieves..! I like to play Revenant and Necromancer too. I like the fast-paced playstyle involved with thief and the high burst dps.

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?
I usually craft my daily mats and then run around in Rata Sum until I find something to do!

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
I bought HoT and I’m really disappointed in this expension. Anet didn’t deliver. The new maps are stunningly beautiful, but hard to navigate and confusing because of the different layers and because the map doesn’t give you good indications of at what layer the things are. Plus, no new dungeons and FOTM at release, no content for casual players, only 4 maps, no new major city, and the content of this expansion is really just 4 meta events that are on a timer.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?
I want to craft some legendary weapons and the legendary backpack. As for the legendary armor .. we’ll see down the road how that goes!

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
Dungeons and Dragons [DnD] for the win.

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?
Give us more content and bring dungeons back.

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
Rata Sum, cause I ain’t no bookah.

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #2

What is your name?
My name is Nuzzle! My main characters name is Elzzun (spell nuzzle backwards 83)

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?
Or how long have you been playing?
I started playing GW2 a little over 2 years ago! But I wasn’t an everyday player until around the time of The Killer Marionette Boss event!

What made you want to try the game?
A bunch of my IRL friends were playing it and when it went on sale it was suggested that I join them!

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?
My favorite professions is definitely my Necromancer. She was my first toon, and despite all the terrible things people said about Necromancers back when I started, I never listened and learned to really enjoy the class!  Now that Reaper is a thing I love playing her even more!

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?
Usually when I log in I form up a party with my 4 daily-doing friends! Together we tackle the PvE, PvP and Fractal Dailies!

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
Yes! I pre-ordered it as soon as it was a thing!  I love the new maps in HoT; they are pretty and the events are fun!  The only thing I wish was different was that the event chains weren’t so… long. It makes it hard to complete them if you don’t have a long time to be in game.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?
Right now my goal is to learn how to raid. I am working on gearing my mesmer as a DPS build. Next I’ll need to find some friends willing to teach me the ropes of the raid!

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
I am in two guilds that are worth a mention.  The first real quild I was ever part of is [WPAK]. The guild has changed quite a bit since I joined and while I find myself participating less and less (even though I still rep all the time) I made MANY good friends through this guild! Plus we do missions together every week!

I would also like to shoutout to my non-rep guild DnD full of just a small amount of close friends! We’ve come a long way for a guild where we barely rep. We have a guild hall and are able to do missions which is great when I have to miss [WPAK]’S missions due to real life happenings!

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?
Eh. I’m not really one to complain about games.  My only real issue with GW2 is load screen times, but that’s not really ANet’s fault as much as the fact that I play on a laptop lol.

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
OH GOSH this is hard! The world is so pretty! When I first started playing Caledon Forest really stuck out to me. It might be because I love nature and hiking IRL and I think it would be fun to visit Caledon Forest and just go exploring!

Glitzy’s Gamer Spotlight #1

What is your name?
In game my main character is Audeley and on Twitch I am OMGlitzy.

When did you start playing Guild Wars 2?
Or how long have you been playing?
I started playing Guild Wars 2 about two weeks after it was launched. I took a break from the game for a few months and eventually returned full time when the Festival of the Four Winds event was live. I’ve now been playing pretty much every single day since then!

What made you want to try the game?
I was a long time EverQuest 2 player and several of my guildies were talking about the release of Guild Wars 2. I was intrigued that it didn’t come with a subscription plan, and my brother (who is also an avid gamer) said it would be a game I would likely enjoy. After I bought it and played with a few of my friends I was instantly hooked. The amazing graphics, friendly community, and simple yet effective UI really pulled me in to becoming a full time player.

What’s your favorite profession to play and why?
The very first character I made was a warrior, but the one I played the most was a necromancer. I’ve always enjoyed classes that had a companion and I usually prefer mages over heavy classes. It wasn’t until after my break that I eventually made a ranger and fell in love with their gameplay. I enjoyed the search for new pets (gotta catch ’em all!) and exploring Tyria with my trusty friend. Now with the elite specialization – Druid – I love my ranger even more!

When you log into the game what is the first thing you like to do?
I’ll usually check the trading post to see if I have any gold or items waiting for me to pick up. After that I will do the daily activities. Even after I complete three of them to get the achievement I still go on to do the others out of enjoyment. I’ll look up boss timers to see which is about to spawn and also check with my guild to see if they are organizing any fun events.

Have you bought Heart of Thorns? If so, what is your impression of the new maps and events?
If you have not bought it explain why and if you plan to.
Yes! I pre-ordered HoT the moment it became available. I was also able to participate in a few of the beta events. My first impression was this is not going to be an easy expansion. The mobs hit harder, the terrain was more difficult to navigate, and the events required a lot of teamwork. These are all good things, of course! The challenge that HoT has provided was a welcome one. The new maps and events have become slightly easier with time and experience, but still require coordination. I wish the story had a little more depth and detail to it and that some of the events were not always centered around timers, but overall I still find myself enjoying the new zones months after HoT was released.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?
I went head first into earning all the mastery points so that I could begin making Astralaria – the new legendary axe. This was a big project to take on since there wasn’t much information about the new collections yet. I worked really hard on completing everything and made Astralaria in about a month. Now that I have that done I have been taking things a bit slower. I’m working on collecting all of the Chak weapons, mapping the new zones on alt characters, completing the story achievements, and also farm gold to buy gathering nodes for my home instance.

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
The guild I am in is Ethereal Guardians [EG]. I’ve really enjoyed being a part of their community because of how active it is! They have frequent events each week like raid training, guild missions, and organized world boss kills. Their TeamSpeak is always full of people chatting and willing to help, and their forums offer an excellent source of information about profession builds and fight mechanics. Overall I have felt very proud to be a member of [EG]!

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?
I like to think ANet is super busy working on a lot of great content for the game (*wink*) so I don’t typically complain too much about things that might be broken.. However, I think the LFG tool does need to be revamped and I wish my mini pet wouldn’t disappear all the time. Like many people, I’d like to see more armor skins added to the game. I don’t think enough were put in with the expansion. Recently, I was incredibly happy they added the shared inventory slots and the ability to always show hidden objects so you no longer have to hold the Ctrl key down. Yay ANet!

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
My first thought was I’d like to visit The Grove simply because it is so enchanting. It’s where I like to take a lot of screen shots of my characters. After thinking more about this question, though, I’d probably want to visit Divinity’s Reach. Since that was the first area I ever explored in the game it has a sense of “home” for me. To see it in real life would be truly extraordinary. I can imagine myself walking through the Central Plaza and gazing upon the entrance to the Queen’s throne room with a wonder and excitement!

Happy Things #20

This is a bit of a random Happy Things post.. Because it includes a lot of things I had meant to blog about from a couple months ago and just didn’t find the time to post them. I did share most of these things via Instagram so be sure to follow me there to stay up-to-date 🙂
So back in September I got to attend a Supernatural convention! I went by myself, had a terrible seat during the Q&A, and autograph tickets were already sold out. So typing up a whole blog post seemed kinda pointless since I didn’t take too many photos. But listening to the Q&A with Sam and Dean was awesome, and I did fork out some money to get a picture with Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) .. I loved him in Gilmore Girls, too, so that was an added bonus.
Next event I wanted to blog about was the Paramore concert! They’re probably my favorite band, and I danced to all the songs in their set! My mom went with me and we had pretty good seats right in the middle, but neither of our phones got very clear pics. I did buy a shirt, tho 🙂

The day before Thanksgiving, Medieval Times posted on their Facebook that tickets were only $25 for that night’s show. Normally, a ticket is like $60-$70.. so I begged my parents to take me since the price was so low ^.^ I absolutely LOVE going to Medieval Times. I have lost count how many times I’ve been there now. And I am pretty sure some of the knights recognized me. You get to eat a huge meal (with your hands!) and watch an awesome show. Huzzah!

A couple weeks ago I bought this Carissa Rose print. I’d like to get a nice frame for it and hang it up in my room. She makes really cool, colorful artwork.

You may have noticed my hair color changing quite a bit throughout all my posts and pics.. I change it so often that I forget to make new blog posts about it. Or maybe I think y’all get tired of seeing those kinds of posts? I dunno .. but here’s some pics of what I’ve done lately!
I was planning on just touching up my roots with more purple.. but when I put the bleach on it started turning kinda green. So I just went with it and added more teal dye. 😛
The most recent color I’ve done was bleaching out the green/teal and this time adding pink to the roots. People usually ask me how I change my color so much without damaging it. I always use demi-permanent color, and I haven’t put bleach on the ends of my hair in about 7 months. I only have to do the roots for now. The color at the middle/ends is from that time I put dark purple on it.. and this is what it’s faded to. I did shampoo the pink dye down towards the bottom to give it a more pinkish glow.
This picture makes me so happy!!! I entered the official Mortal Instruments Pinterest board contest and was one of the 5 winners! I heard about it from their Facebook page and since I am totally addicted to Pinterest, I had no problem spending an entire night making a Clary Fray Inspired board. There were quite a few entries, but I saw my name listed as one of the winners and freaked out!! I emailed them my address and a few days later got a box from Sony Entertainment. It had the movie on BluRay/DVD, the movie’s soundtrack, Jace’s stele, tattoos, trading cards, a journal, bag, and t-shirt. The item I was most excited for was The Shadowhunters Codex. I wasn’t expecting to get all these amazing items so I was really really happy!!

My next happy thing is the jewelry I ordered from Kuma Crafts. This beautiful Sailor Moon necklace has been on my wish list for quite some time. I finally decided to order it, and I am so glad I did. It’s exquisite!! It’s so well-made, glitzy and girly, and looks great with any outfit. The package came with some adorable stickers, too!
And finally, a Happy Things post wouldn’t be complete without a picture of Pixie Doodle.
:+:+:+:
What has made you happy lately?
(Or in the last couple months since my post has things all the way back to September hahaha)

The Nutcracker Ice Show

Every year at the Gaylord Texan Resort, there is an epic Ice Show put on for the holidays. This year the theme was The Nutcracker! My parents surprised me with tickets to the show for my birthday, and we all really enjoyed going.

The Gaylord Texan is a beautiful resort with all kinds of other attractions inside. There was a gingerbread house, giant Christmas tree, and you could even visit Santa!

When you enter the Ice Show, they give you a HUGE jacket to wear. I didn’t think I would need it on top of my big coat, but I am so glad I wore it. The temperature inside was only 9 DEGREEs! It was so cold I couldn’t feel my face.
They use two million pounds of ice to make all the sculptures. I was amazed at the size and detail of each piece. You can read more about how they make the ice here.

Of course, my favorite sculpture was the pink pegasus!

There was also an ice slide you could go down! That’s me on the slide!!

The last room in the show was dedicated to New York City. There was a Yellow Taxi, the Statue of Liberty and Big Apples.

If you live in the DFW area, I definitely recommend checking out the Ice Show at the Gaylord. The whole place was beautiful and really put me in the holiday spirit. There are also several restaurants inside, and it’s the official hotel for the Dallas Cowboys!
:+:+:+:+:
Hope everyone has a happy holiday!!
Do you have any holiday attractions in your town?

A Day in the Park

Before the crazy ice storm hit my part of Texas, my mom and I went over to the park across from my apartment. It was a beautiful day and was so warm and sunny I eventually took my jacket off!! I am glad we adventured out before the temperature dropped below freezing the next day.
This park is called “Central Park” just north of Dallas.. It has statues and a water fountain (which sadly was not running.) There’s also a small river behind it and a little lake. I had fun walking around and saw a few other families taking photos. I just wish I had been coming here more often to take more pics!
My outfit:
Pokemon shirt – Hot Topic
Nyan cat hoodie – ThinkGeek
Pink phone purse – Vera Bradley
Boots – Uggs
Jeans – Express

WhoFest DFW 2013

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who, my mom and I attended a local convention called WhoFest! This was its first year and tickets for it sold out! I was only able to attend on Friday (it was a three day event), but still had a blast with all the other Whovians. There weren’t any celebrity guests, but it did have numerous discussion panels, a cosplay contest, and a really great dealers room.
This was my outfit for WhoFest. I wore a Link/Doctor Who crossover shirt from TeeFury and the 4th Doctor’s scarf from ThinkGeek.

This Dalek could light up, move, and yell Exterminate! at you! Eek!

My favorite costume was by my friend Jeremy (far right). He was dressed up as Craig from the “Closing Time” episode with baby Stormageddon.
This River Song outfit was spot on!

I also loved this Doctor Whooves costume. It’s a My Little Pony character!
And my good friend CookieCupCakes was there, too in her fabulous homemade costume!
The dealer’s room was very impressive. Even though it wasn’t very big, the booths had some excellent Doctor Who swag to buy. I got a free poster with my ticket purchase and also decided to buy some arm warmers the same pattern as my scarf.

The Piranha Toys booth never disappoints either. It was a great photo area.

And here’s the Dalek in action!

Oh no! It brought reinforcements!

They were building a Tardis the whole time we were there.. and almost had it finished by the time we needed to leave. It was made of wood and had lights in it and everything. Would be so cool to have this at home, don’t you think? 🙂

My Little Pony: Childhood Memories

There’s a special memory I have when I was little of me and my mom. I was in elementary school, and I got all A’s on one of my report cards. So my mom said she would take me to Toys R Us to get a My Little Pony. I can remember picking a pony at the store and afterwards going to McDonald’s to celebrate. I got a McNugget Happy Meal and my new pony got to sit at the table with us. I can picture the exact booth we sat in at that McDonald’s back home. It’s one of my absolute favorite memories. I had a lot of wonderful toys when I was little. And I love it when a special toy sneaks into my head so I can think of all the times I spent playing with it. Mostly, my Ponies weren’t “played” with but rather had their hair brushed constantly. I *loved* brushing their manes and tails.
Here is a pic of the pony I got in my memory when we went to McDonald’s. Her name is Lofty!
This was another pony I loved. I played with her so much her cutie mark wore off. Her name is Sunnybunch.
And now let me introduce you to Hula Hula! She was my all time favorite because she had the SOFTEST HAIR. It never tangled and was soooo silky. I was so jealous of her hair (mine was crazy frizzy) .. I loved brushing it and was so envious of her multiple colors 🙂 I guess My Little Pony influenced my hair styling choices! 😀
:+:+:+:+:
There’s a bunch of other toys I absolutely adored as a child. And I am so thankful my mom would get them for me. So as I think of awesome memories I will probably make more posts like this one. I also want to mention that I am really hooked on the new My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It’s the cutest show and all the characters are so unique. Since I am not sure if my mom kept my old ponies, I have started a new collection with the new series. So someday I can make a post on that, too. ^.^
Do you have a favorite childhood toy?

Tutorial: Legolas Cosplay

Since The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug is coming out next week, I wanted to post how I made my costume for my Legolas cosplay! This was not too difficult to make.. but very time consuming getting all the pieces together. I wore this costume to Dallas Fan Days 2013. I started making it right after I saw the first trailer for the second Hobbit movie!

The first item I looked for was his tunic. I really enjoy recycling other items. So I found this vintage suede jacket on Etsy, and I just knew it would be perfect!!

All it took was trimming the shape into Legolas’ tunic. I cut off the collar, shortened the sleeves and angled the bottom.
The next part was SO MUCH MORE DIFFICULT! LOL … I spent ALL DAY adding the brown suede to the top of the tunic. I am sure there are patterns out there somewhere, but I decided to make my own and “just wing it.” .. In the end it came out exactly how I pictured.
To go along with my “wing it” philosophy.. I freehanded the swirlies with a silver sharpie. I was pretty nervous about this, but had a reference photo (seen here by Alley Cat Scratch) right next to me so I could redesign it.
I also freehanded the swirlies on the back and sleeves based on this reference photo. It’s too bad no one ever saw this since I wore a cloak all day. But I wanted it to be there so it felt complete 🙂

Next I made the quiver.. I just used a cardboard poster tube and wrapped it in some extra brown fabric I had. I used hot glue to attach it to the cardboard.
The arrows were wooden dowels that I painted brown.
And I added convention-friendly arrowheads. These are just pencil erasers painted silver then you glue them to the end of the wooden dowel.
For the other end of the arrows, I cut feathers in half and glued them to each side of the wooden dowel. This was messy because bits of feathers got all over the place.
Here is a finished look at the quiver, bow, and arrows. Also on the quiver I freehanded a swirly design with a gold sharpie (Legolas has a beautiful peacock design on his), and I attached a brown belt to the back. The bow was not made by me.. It’s an officially licensed Legolas bow made out of plastic.. but I thought it looked great! I got mine on eBay for only $10 but they seem to be sold out now.
The cloak was handmade by CloaknDragon, but I had to add a hole in the back so the quiver could go through it.

This wig is the same one I used for my Sailor Venus cosplay. It’s an Eowyn in the color Titanium Blonde by Arda Wigs. I braided it myself!

For the day of the convention, I pinned the two side braids up with bobby pins so they would look more like Legolas. This also helped my elf ears (by Aradani) show better. I did my makeup myself, too.
My leggings were handmade by Wrecking Crew Creation to fit my measurements, and the grey long sleeve shirt is from American Apparel. My boots were from Walmart, and the brown belts were from Target.
The brooch I wore on my cloak was from eBay and can also be worn as a necklace.

And my beautiful bracers were made by RenManLeather .. He customized these to fit my wrist and match the design to Legolas’ actual bracers. These are super high quality; I cannot recommend him enough!

The only thing I wish I had done differently was research how to properly hold a bow and arrow ^.^
I have never used one before and looking back in my photos I realized I wasn’t holding it quite right. So if you decide to make this outfit be sure to look that up!
:+:+:+:+:
I loved wearing this costume at Dallas Fan Days (see that full post here), and I can see myself wanting to wear it again and again. It was pretty comfy and I felt like a magical elven warrior. I am not sure if I’ll get to wear this for The Hobbit premier, but I am definitely excited to watch the new movie and see more Legolas action!
What character from The Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit is your favorite?
Will you go see The Hobbit in theaters?

I did buy HoT, I love the new maps! Gliding is so much fun, I’ve spent many hours just gliding around the maps to enjoy the scenery.

What goals have you set for yourself in game?

I’m currently working toward the legendary Nevermore and my first map completion.

If you are in a guild you’d like to promote please tell us about it!
If you are not in one, what are you looking for in a guild?
I’m in an awesome guild! We are called Destructive Winds (RG)

Any updates or fixes you wish ANet would work on?

The only complaint I have is recent problems I’ve been having with fractals glitching, causing us to have to start the fractal over.

If you could visit IRL one of the cities of Tyria which one would you pick and why?
The grove of course Sylvari is my favorite race.
